Convicted baron loses VGC mansion, jeep as NDLEA arrests grandma for drugs in Lagos

. Recovers South Africa-bound 1.5m opioid pills, intercepts 2.2kg cocaine in Owerri, 3 bandits drug suppliers in Zamfara

A multi-million-naira mansion located at K-5A/2 Road 14, Victoria Garden City (VGC) estate, Lekki area of Lagos used as clandestine laboratory for the production of methamphetamine by a convicted drug baron, Okenwa Chris Nzewi, has been forfeited to the Federal Government following his successful prosecution and conviction in court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Okenwa was arrested along with his associate, Sunny Okeh Ukah on 30th July 2022 and subsequently arraigned on four counts in charge number FHC/L/527C/2022 at the Federal High Court, Lagos. They both pleaded guilty on 17th July, 2023, while they were convicted and sentenced to four and three years imprisonment each with an option of fine of four million (N4,000,000) naira and three million (N3,000,000) naira respectively in addition to community service for four and three weeks each. His vehicle marked EKY 496 DJ was equally forfeited to the Federal Government.

To further deny him of enjoying the proceeds of his criminal activity, the NDLEA filed a civil forfeiture charge against the building used as clandestine laboratory at the Federal High Court Lagos which initially granted an interim forfeiture order that elapsed on 6th December before the final forfeiture on 7th December 2023.

So are you trying to say it was only Igbos that did all the attacks in Lagos?
Far from it! It was a mixed group of people from different ethnicities. Yoruba, Ibo, Hausa, male and female, etc.

Infact, in the Lekki area, some folks of Northern origin were caught looting. So, it was a mixed bag of opportunists who took time to loot and burn, and such incidents must NOT be allowed to be repeated. Spontaneous riots in Lagos State for instance can be very deadly because things spiral out of control very quickly and people get trapped and mugged or raped because they can't get vehicles to transport them back home. Since the violent anti-SAP protests and riots of 1989 against the military dictatorship of IBB (which I witnessed) and which was led by University students, labor unions, and members of the public, I've come to realize that protests should NEVER be allowed to fester for days in a place like Lagos State and even other major cities because they quickly get hijacked and spiral out of control leading to massive destruction and death.

There are too many simpletons on this Website tbh. What's all the huffing and puffing over Qatar here? That small country still maintains an embassy in Nigeria and cannot snub Nigeria since they have NOT SEVERED diplomatic ties with Nigeria. There's just too much sensationalism going on online.

Just last week, Kemi Badenoch representing the UK government and her economic team flew into Nigeria and signed major trade agreements with Nigeria that would enable Nigerians to export products into the UK at reduced duties. This is a huge deal that's meant to boost bilateral trade relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. What bigger trade deal can you get at this point in time if not this?

Yoi see that's the problem with you guys sometimes, you guys just generalize, so because Nnamdi Kanu told IPOB to burn properties in Lagos, you are attributing it to all Igbos...

That is like saying in 1999 when OPC where killing people in Lagos, the Igbos now claimed that Yorubas are the ones killing other tribes in Lagos....

And even with what MNK said, was there any actual evidence the IPOB actually acted upon his instructions?
I don't want you to continue with the deflecting that you're doing here or get dragged into any ethnic back and forth. I only got into the convo to correct the misleading info you gave that no Ibo made inciting comments or took part in the EndSARS destruction of property in Lagos in October 2020. There were some Ibos who were arrested in Lagos for taking part in the EndSARS destruction like a certain Chinaza who was tried and sentenced to jail. All these can be verified.

If you read my post properly, I attached screenshots from Vanguard and Guardian to that post and CLEARLY stated that Ohaneze CONDEMNED Nnamdi Kanu for inciting people on his pirate radio station in London while he monitored the real-time destruction of specific locations by hoodlums. He was clearly being given information by his ipob agents on the ground in Lagos then. This does not mean the generality of Ibos are guilty and that is why Ohaneze condemned Ipob and Nnamdi for making reckless comments on radio. Even at the Lekki Tollgate, some Ibo youngsters were recorded singing one of the biafra songs used during the Nigerian Civil War in defiance when the military told all of those young protesters to leave because a curfew had been imposed by the Governor, but they refused to leave. Period.

Below is the audio of where Nnamdi Kanu instructed his people to burn Sanwoolu, Tinubu, and Lagos airport.

Expulsion of Nigerian Immigrant Community from Ghana in 1969.

This paper examines the remote and immediate factors that propelled the expulsion of Nigerian migrants from Ghana in November 1969. While the paper observes that jealousy and xenophobia played important roles in instigating the expulsion order, it notes that the key consideration that informed the Ghanaian action was the economic depression experienced in the country notable in the high rate of youth unemployment within the country. The study further notes that the action brought positive and negative impacts on the Nigerian nation but spelled doom for the cocoa and retail business sectors of the Ghanaian economy in the immediate post-expulsion period. The paper concludes that though Ghana had an inalienable right to expel aliens from her territory, the haste involved in the order and the in-human disposition of Ghanaian law enforcement agents to the deportees left much to be desired.

Residents of Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government area have poured encomiums on the Governor of Anambra state, Professor Chukwuma Soludo CFR, for what they tagged 'Solution Giant Strides in Onitsha'.

They gave the commendations when the Governor attended a town hall meeting with Fegge Landlords Association and residents held last Friday at Fegge.

The Chairman of the Onitsha South chapter of All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA), Chief Uche C. Umennakenyi, said that the governor has made them proud by constructing the Port Harcourt road and other roads in Fegge and urged him not to relent in making the state a better place to live in.

He vowed that those who dump refuse into the drainages and block the road would not go unpunished adding that the governor's achievements would speak for him come 2025 gubernatorial election.

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has vowed to offer #10 million to the first street in Onitsha to complete their repainting from February 1 to March 10 this year.

The Governor made this vow through the Commissioner for environment, Mr Felix Odimegwu during an interactive session with Onitsha landlords at Onitsha South Local Government Area Secretariat on February 5.

According to him, the runners up will receive #5 million while the third position will smile home with #3 million.

"We are here for the follow up of the last visit here where our governor sent his deputy to come and interact with the Fegge landlords on degeneration and facelift of Onitsha.

"We want to do this thing in three folds; repainting, where the governor brought out a challenge 'Ka Anambra Chakee' which prompted him to set a cash gift to any street that comes together, discuss and embark on this initiative, paint from street end to street end.

"It is the wish of the governor to embark on this initiative. He said that he would be here on Friday for you to see him and hear also that he is the one that sent us here. This is an agenda that is not hard to do and also it is for our health benefit.

"Another one is cleaning of drainages. Onitsha was last rated as the dirtiest place in West Africa but this government since it came, is deliberate to change Onitsha from the present narrative and place it on the right direction it should be.

"Since solid roads constructions are going on, it will be an eyesore that the environment, buildings within these roads are dilapidated, we all know that paints help in protecting houses, so we are here to appreciate the governor.

"Fegge is well planned, when we painted all our houses, plant trees, it will make your properties valuable, appreciate naturally and also conducive for foreign investors and businesses."
Impressive.

That's a brilliant move. It's the stuff of what international negotiations skills should be about. De-escalation is not weakness.

The next point is to REVERT to democracy as soon as possible for the benefit of all and work together on ways to jointly deal ruthlessly with the Islamist insurgency affecting major areas of the West African Sahel and the climate change issues leading to the constant criminal herders attacks on hard-working farmers.

Kudos to ECOWAS.

SALLYBERRY01:
STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU CALLS FOR SUSPENSION OF SANCTIONS ON GUINEA, MALI, NIGER, AND BURKINA FASO

President Bola Tinubu has called for the suspension of economic sanctions imposed on Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea by ECOWAS.

Speaking at the Extra-ordinary Summit of ECOWAS in Abuja on Saturday, President Tinubu, who is the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the organization, stated that: “Everything we did was in hopes of persuading our brothers that there existed a better path, a path that would lead to genuine improvement of their people’s welfare through democratic good governance. And this was a path each of our nations had solemnly agreed with one another pursuant to formal regional treaty and protocol.

“However, the sanctions that we contemplated might help lead our brothers to the negotiating table have become a harsh stumbling block. In my mind and heart, that which is hurtful yet ineffective serves no good purpose and should be abandoned.

"ECOWAS was established for the unassailable objective of improving the lives of the people of this region through fraternal cooperation among all member states. This edifice was cemented on the strong foundation and apt conviction that, united as one, we can be the true masters of our destiny."

The President further explained that ECOWAS took the steps it did based on the regional ideals of security, social stability; democratic governance, political freedom, broad-based prosperity, and sustainable economic development through fair opportunity for each and every one in West Africa.

He said neither hatred nor hidden motive influenced the steps taken and that there was never any intention to douse or undermine the legitimate political aspirations of any member state or to advance the interests of any outside party.

In calling for the suspension of sanctions, President Tinubu stressed that: "We must take note of the approach of the holy month of Ramadan and of Lent. Whether you pray in the mosque or in the church, this represents a time for compassion, hope, and harmony. It is a time that we must not only seek God but also a closer relationship with brother and neighbour.

"In the Spirit of the holy month and of the Lenten period, and with hearts bestirred by goodwill towards all our people, let us extend a hand as brothers and friends to those in Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

"What I suggest in real and practical terms is that we, my colleagues and fellow heads of state in ECOWAS, indefinitely suspend economic sanctions against Niger, Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso and against the leadership of the military authorities in those nations."
In the world of geopolitics and international relations... That's very statesmanlike.

NOTE: The decision to suspend Niger was a joint ECOWAS decision taken by ALL the Presidents and NOT an individual decision taken by the Nigerian President. This is to correct the misinformation of the poster above me and his dishonest ilk.

In the final analysis, negotiation skills have to kick in whenever there are crises situations around the world. Emotional intelligence is key in every human interaction for sustainable development. The military must be encouraged to return to democracy at the shortest possible time with sanctions lifted gradually to enable full integration into ECOWAS in the light of several capital projects such as the international gas export pipeline project passing through Niger Republic to Algeria via Nigeria which will have huge economic significance in West Africa for gas exports to Europe.

There's still a 50/50 chance those 3 countries of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso would still go ahead with the plan for their own confederate state or union. If they do go ahead then they'll have to go through some "birth pangs"... Just like Senegal and Gambia that fused to form Senegambia but later broke up again to become independent of each other.

Singapore and Malaysia also fused into one union in the 1960s but later went their separate ways with Singapore majorly being the better for it under the guidance and leadership of the late Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew who took that city-state from a developing nation of about 3 major ethnicities of Chinese (over 80 percent), Malays, and Indians, to a world-class, technologically and economically advanced nation.

Yoruba folks are traditionally known to be brutally honest and will tell you to your face what they think about you. Many Yoruba subgroups such as the Ibadan people (who are warrior descendants and republicans in nature) are known NOT to forgive and forget when you offend them and will take their revenge in due course and remind you about the evil you did in the past. I first got to know this fact from an interview granted years back by an Ibadan-born lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The major investment banks worldwide have international operations or currency trading divisions within their banks that trade in the global financial markets. Infact, the bulk or larger percentage of bank profits come from trading in the financial markets and not from customers' deposits alone. These things are captured in the annual financial statements of these banks.

No doubt, some of the bank staff engage in round trippings since there is that leakage (or open window) for illegal arbitrage between the official exchange rate and the illegal currency black markets run on the streets, the vast profits of these banks still come from their international operations divisions.
Business › Re: FMDQ Traders Introduce Cap Bid/offer Spread To N50 In New Forex Trading Changes by Konquest: 2:41am On Feb 24, 2024
FreeStuffsNG:
https://nairametrics.com/2024/02/23/fmdq-traders-introduce-cap-bid-offer-spread-to-n50-in-new-forex-trading-changes/
FMDQ seeks improved action to attract $30 trillion sustainability fund in the capital market

Traders on the FMDQ where forex is traded officially have implemented a +/-5% band around the previous day NAFEX while also caping bid/offer spread to N50.

Sources with knowledge of the matter reveal the new changes is not an FMDQ official guideline, however, they are aware of the changes being introduced by some major forex dealers including banks Some commercial bank officials also confirmed same to Nairametrics.

The actions form part of a broader set of changes in the nation’s official market for trading forex which has been plagued by forex volatility. Trading hours have also been set for 10am to 2pm from the previous 10am to 4pm.

Also introduced is a standard ticket size of $100,000 which refers to the minimum transaction size or the smallest amount that can be traded on this market. Setting a standard ticket size of $100,000 indicates that the market is targeting institutional investors or large transactions, rather than retail investors.

This is expected to enhance the market’s liquidity and ensure that significant amounts of foreign currency can be traded with relative ease, catering to the needs of large corporations and financial institutions.

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s forex market opine this is reminiscent of the market structure that existed around 2006 when over $2 million was the standard ticket size.

Another important feature introduced by the so-called dealers is a bid/offer spread of N50 which is the difference between the highest price a buyer is willing to pay (bid) and the lowest price a seller is willing to accept (offer).

A fixed spread of N50 suggests a controlled trading environment, which could make trading costs predictable. However, it also means traders have less flexibility to negotiate prices, which could impact the market’s adaptability to sudden changes in supply and demand.

The traders also introduced circuit breakers which are mechanisms used to temporarily halt trading on an exchange if prices hit predefined levels, while a volatility band refers to the range within which the exchange rate is allowed to fluctuate during a trading session.

The introduction of a +/- 5% band around the previous day’s NAFEX (Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Rate Fixing) rate means that the exchange rate for the day’s trading cannot deviate more than 5% from the previous day’s NAFEX rate. This is intended to prevent excessive volatility and protect the market from erratic fluctuations.

The guideline that the +/- 5% band around the previous day’s NAFEX rate can be communicated daily ahead of the market open suggests a commitment to transparency and allows market participants to prepare for the day’s trading with a clear understanding of the permitted trading range.

Restating the military stance in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Musa said, “Whoever is making that call (coup) does not love Nigeria. We want to make it very clear that the Armed Forces of Nigeria are here to protect democracy.

“We all want democracy and we do better under democracy. And so we will continue to support democracy. And any of those ones that are calling for anything other than democracy are evil people and I think they don’t mean well for Nigeria. And they should be very careful because the law will come after them.”

He said, “We can see that with democracy a lot of things are happening in Nigeria. Yes, we are going through trying periods, but in life, nothing is one hundred per cent; everybody goes through a trying period in life, but it is what you do with them.

“You can see the government putting in efforts to ensure that we come out better. And it is when you go through difficulties and come out better you will really appreciate what it is to build a nation. And so we are going through our trying period, but I can assure Nigerians that it will get better.

“What is needed is for all of us to put our hands together to ensure that we defeat those enemies of the government, those enemies of this country that don’t want us to succeed.
~~~~~
My Take:
That's a very impressive statement from the CDS.
What these bigoted youngsters online don't realize is that in the event of a military coup, the international community comprising of major Western friends of Nigeria and the United Nations in general would immediately impose travel restrictions on the friends and family of the military usurpers and impose economic sanction on Nigeria thereby leading to more economic hardships for folks in Nigeria.
Second, it was through the Central Bank of Nigeria that the military dictator called Abacha stolen over 4 billion USD of Nigeria money and stashed them in various International tax havens in Europe and the Caribbean Islands. Even the Okigbo report indicted the IBB military admin over the mismanagement of the Gulf War oil windfall in the early 1990s. Nothing was done about that case till today.
Third, there will be a clamp down in online criticisms and websites such as NL will be shut down in the event of any sustained critisms. They did it to several major newspapers back in the 1980s and 1990s. So, with new forms of technologies such as social media platforms there will be more monitoring of online comments. Political asassinations like was done in the 1980s and 1990s under the military would resurface.
There's a lot more negatives with military rule.
The reason why suya is mostly prepared in the evenings is that the meat has to be marinated in spices for hours before being slowly grilled over charcoal heat.
As to getting suya only in the evening, it's a big fat lie. If you go to University of Suya at Allen or the streets opposite Dodan Barracks at Obalende, you'll get suya in the afternoons.
So guys, I came up with this easy Nigerian breakfast stew, it is one of my favorites and might just be what you need for today’s breakfast.
Egg stew is the best and simplest sauce for boiled yam or rice, it is prepared with eggs, diced tomatoes, peppers and onion and very easy to fix for breakfast.
This stew is very easy to prepare and gives room for addition of other spices like herbs and vegetables or even fish/minced meat. Instead of using fresh tomatoes, you can as well use canned tomatoes, it taste good with it.
However, egg stew can be served at lunch and dinner as well. Here is simple egg stew recipe for you, watch the video above and see how to make egg stew the easiest way.
This egg stew also complements fried plantain, yam chips and potatoes; you might as well love to pair yours with plain boiled rice.
Ingredients for egg stew
• 3 large eggs, whisked
• 4 large tomatoes, diced
• 1 small onion, chopped
• 1 teaspoon curry powder
• 1 teaspoon thyme
• 3 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 stock cube
• 2 scotch bonnets, chopped or dry pepper
• ½ cup of cooking oil
• A pinch of salt
The dirty environment and poor or zero hygiene conditions in which Suya is made and handled in many places in Nigeria, has called for a great concern.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has warned Nigerians against the consumption of some popular delicacies like Suya is dangerous to the health.
According to the Minister, other forms of meat including Kilishi (spicy dried cow meat) and Ngwo-Ngwo, (assorted meat pepper soup) also lead to the death of many Nigerians as they cause hypertension leading cardiovascular disease in Nigeria and can result in stroke if untreated.
Many Nigerians, however, do not agree with Prof. Adewole as they see the consumption of such delicacies as a must and most times, they come quite cheap.
HOW TO MAKE SUYA
Ingredents- Beef, salt and suya mix spice
Procedure
1.Thinly slice the beef. Combine with salt and suya spice and arrange on bamboo skewers.
2. Grill or bake until beef is cooked through.
3.Serve with fresh tomatoes and onions or even cucumber
Notes for Making Beef Suya:
1. cuts with reasonable amount of fat (this is necessary so the meat doesn’t dry out)
2. Combine prepared meat for suya with a little salt and maggi prior to use
3. The thinner your slice your meat, the less time it needs to cook
4.If using a non-fatty cut of meat, bast (rub) the suya with some oil during the cooking process
When you have prepared your meat,allow it for about 30mins either in the fridge so that the ingredients will enter inside the meat well.
5.As you grill,be monitoring it and turning to get it evenly cooked.
When you are done serve with a glass of wine or your choice.....
I don't have time to argue with fools,
I believe you also believe the earth is flat
Your proof is that they didn't do another moon mission
NASA did and exploration of Pluto when they started the New Horizons probe in July 2015,
So because they were no further trips to the planet Pluto, NASA didn't explore Pluto and it was all a lie. Loooooool
Moon landing, doesn't mean it was a man landings, NASA was landed more than 5 rover's on the moon after the Apollo man landing
Please go find another illiterate to converse with.
Succinctly stated.
There was a report yesterday that the NTA asked General Gowon to speak in Hausa. I'll quote it.
This is not true. What actually happened?
General Gowon visited President Tinubu and after meeting with the president, he spoke to journalists and said something interesting.
He said that a report had circulated that Ecowas asked him to give a press conference about the situation in the subregion but he refused. He said that the report was not true. He said that there was some miscommunication, but that he was going to do the press conference that evening. Here is a video of Gowon's visit to Tinubu and his statement after the visit.
The reason that General Gowon was asked to do the press conference is because he was one of the founding fathers of Ecowas.
General Gowon had the press conference at the Ecowas Headquarters and seated beside him was the president of the Ecowas Commission, Omar Touray.
The General read a letter that he wrote to heads of state in the subregion and he asked those that wanted to leave Ecowas to come back. He talked about their reasons for founding Ecowas, etc.
He then gave the letter to the president of the commission and asked him to give it to all the heads of state.
After giving the letter to Omar Touray, the MC asked General Gowon to translate it to Hausa. Hausa is the most widely spoken langauge in Niger Republic, one of the countries that wants to leave Ecowas. It is also spoken in Benin, Togo, Ghana and other countries in the region.
However, General Gowon said that he wasn't told that he would have to translate the letter to Hausa and that for 8 or 9 years he has only spoken English and that he can't remember how to speak it. Here is the full video.
It was the Ecowas MC that asked General Gowon to speak in Hausa, not the NTA.
Ecowas knows that Gowon used to speak Hausa, but they didn't know that he has stopped. Here is General Gowon giving an interview to BBC Hausa and he spoke in Hausa here:
Demigod22:
Gowon is Tarok, we have different minority tribes in the core North. The majority tribes is Fulani and Hausa. However, all the minority tribes speak and understand Hausa. The Hausa language is well spoken in the North more than any languages, even more than English.
We have tribes that speak more Hausa than their own language.
General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) is an Angas from Plateau State but his parents migrated to Kaduna State where they lived.
On Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, something surprising happened on TV. The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was showing a live program with Yakubu Gowon, a former leader. At 5:30 pm, during the show, things got tense.
NTA asked Gowon to speak Hausa, a language he didn't want to use. Gowon is good at speaking English, which he preferred. But NTA kept insisting, even though Gowon said no. Then, without warning, NTA suddenly stopped the program. People watching were confused and upset. They went on social media to talk about it.
People are now talking about why this happened and if it was right. They want NTA to explain.
Owo, Ondo State - Today, February 23, friends, family, and dignitaries gathered at the St. Andrews Church on Imola Street to bid farewell to the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu. The somber occasion was marked by heartfelt tributes and fond memories of the governor who passed away in December 2023 after battling a prolonged illness.
The funeral service was attended by several prominent figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. The atmosphere was one of both mourning and celebration as speakers recounted Akeredolu's impactful legacy and contributions to the state.
Rotimi Akeredolu. The ephemeral nature of human existence... But transmuted to a HIGHER state of vibrational energy.
🇷🇺 Russian President Vladimir Putin donned a pilot dress and took the pilot seat of a Tu-160M hi-tech supersonic strategic bomber fighter jet on Thursday to personally check the quality of its modernization.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Russia's southwestern city of Kazan that the head of state arrived on the runway of the Kazan Aviation Plant dressed as a pilot and took the pilot's seat.
"The flight will last some 40 minutes. The route of the flight is a state secret," Peskov said.
Tu-160m is a supersonic, variable-sweep wing heavy strategic bomber, called in Russia "White Swan," in NATO -- "Blackjack," it is designed to hit targets in remote areas with nuclear and conventional weapons.
Tu-160m strategic bomber is the largest supersonic aircraft in the history of military aviation and the heaviest combat aircraft in the world.
Putin has already flown several military planes, including fighter jets. Moreover, he has already flown the previous model of the Tu-160 bomber in August 2005.
