Whose idea was this? isn't it better to sell smaller loaves than selling this? It looks touched... tampered with. I wouldn't buy this, I hate to imagine others hands on my food.
The idea looks innovative at first sight, BUT the kneaded bread dough size (for making 1 full sliced loaves of bread sold for N1600) should have been cut into two equal dough sizes then placed in the baking pan before baking in the oven to the ideal texture.

The bread slicing device can then slice the two oven-baked loaves of bread into the ideal N800 sliced bread packaged in transparent nylon packaging.

As the situation stands, miniaturization and/or sachetization are becoming the creative norm worldwide in order to ensure market penetration across some demographics.

People really don't understand how bad things have gotten in Nigeria.

Even middle-class stores are now finding ways to cater to customers that APC is pushing deeper into poverty.

Who would have ever imagined that supermarkets would start selling half loaves of bread?

Ahaa, Tinubu, you really did this one oh...
A full loaf of sliced bread at N1,600 is quite affordable. The half loaves of bread of N800 looks innovative BUT should have been oven baked separately with the right size of baking pan before slicing it for packaging in the transparent polythene bag.

As a user and member of NL for 20 years now since 2005, I can CLEARLY affirm here and now that the "block feature" which is effective for only 1 week that you've just introduced is a giant leap for this NL discussion forum and it shows you are truly listening to genuine real world suggestions and taking ACTION. More actions are expected. Read this insightful post to the end to gain more insights.

I will ALSO CLEARLY advice that you keep the usual NL Super-Moderators (such as Myndd44 & Dominique) to manually ban for at least 5 years any well-known and fake NL moniker that still uses defamatory ethnic slur words which have to be urgently censored here on NL such as: ["Yari.banza" "Yari.bastard, Yeri.banza, etc, which are coined ethnic slur words meaning "Yoruba bas.tard" with "banza" meaning "bastard or illegitimate" in Hausa language BUT these slur words were actually coined and used relentlessly to insult Yoruba folks by ONLY ipob sympathizers on NL, FB, YouTube and other online platforms for years now], deliberately derailing threads and toxic disinformation MOSTLY by the male and female ipob members and thousands of recruited paid ipob online troll farms (using thousands of free laptops, free mobile phones, and free Internet data given to them) who are based in Nigeria, South Africa, Europe, North America, and Asia as EXPOSED by the undercover "BBC Global Disinformation Team" investigative video of May 12, 2022 which is still online and attached right BELOW which accurately EXPOSED ipob for being responsible for ALL the relentless spread of massive online disinformation, cyberbullying, toxic hate speech on Facebook, X, YouTube, WhatsApp, [and here on Nairaland] with the intention to trigger ethnic unrests and destabilize Nigeria through a Civil War.

Further more, I will send some of the moniker identities of these identified "ipob paid online troll farms" using NL for years now as a propaganda medium to spread massive disinformation to your main email OR any confidential email that you want me to use soon with massive EVIDENCE.

Last but NOT least, the relentless defamatory insults and disinformation on NL being pushed by these same paid online troll farms [even up till this morning despite prior corrections, calling the now President Bola Tinubu "a drug baron, Thief.nubu, Iragbiji druggie, drug and cocaine sniffer, Pablo Escobar, etc"] MUST be stopped now on NL. As far back as 1993, the U.S. Federal authorities cleared now President Bola Tinubu of any wrongdoings and even in 2003, the United States Embassy in Lagos State through the then Legal Attache of the United States Embassy, Michael H. More sweeping changes are needed here on NL to remove all observed inneficiences.

Keep up the good work Seun.

It's indeed a fact from studying the economic realities over there in Nigeria (despite the bold reforms of removing the long years of financially draining and dangerous fuel subsidies which had to go to free up funds for other developmental projects) that a lot of folks on the street level have been hit hard by the "economic reforms" and there's an urgent need to bring down hyperinflation so that more people will have disposable income. The CNG project is the ONLY way the cost of transportation, food haulage, foods and srvices will drop because Dangote Petrochemical Refinery's PMS fuel is still high and tied to the exchange rate and international price swings caused by wars such as the Russian-Ukraine War.

indeed, even the former Governor Willie Obiano and the current Governor Charles Soludo have criticized Peter Obi in the recent years for some of his past innefectiveness and there are several NL threads created here on NL back during Peter Obi's first and second-terms where real Anambra indigenes came out to STRONGLY criticize Peter for his poor management of resources, innability to conduct Local Government elections, and poor development in Anambra with NO good roads while even preferring Chris Ngige's tenure more. Surprisingly, as of the 2022 to the 2023 Presidential election cycle, few of those young male and female online posters from the South East of Nigeria who had earlier STRONGLY criticized Peter Obi when he was the Anambra State Governor during and after he left office suddenly became serial ethnic bigots and started supporting Peter and pushing or cyberbullying other Nigerians to accept this same man they said didn't do well as Governor in Anambra State, and this shows the short memory of humans, hypocrisy, and highly IRRESPONSIBLE behavior of people based off of tribalism and ethnic bigotry!

Right BELOW is a link to one of the many NL threads created Showing Posts by Known Monikers of Anambra Indigenes Strongly Criticizing Peter Obi for His Inneficiences and Bad Governance when he was the Anambra State Governor:
=>https://www.nairaland.com/870945/what-exactly-peter-obi-doing?s=08

Second, when Willie Obiano took office as the Anambra State Governor, I remember reading where he and his Commissioner of Information CLEARLY criticized Peter Obi for the many unpaid sums of money running into billions of Naira owed to several contractors by Peter Obi's past government, yet Peter went to Poju Oyemade's "The Platform" in Lagos State and other States as well telling impressionable and gullible people (who ignorantly clapped for him) that he had "saved and invested" millions for Anambra. Willie Obiano stated CLEARLY by asking "what was the use of those savings and investments when several Anambra-based contractors were being owed money for work done?" People had to be paid so that construction work could continue! So, Willie Obiano stated that his goverment had to start sourcing for the urgent and needed funds to pay up these contractors from Peter Obi's time as Governor.

Third, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra ALSO CLEARLY criticized Peter Obi for his bad investments in the beer factory and more which he said hadn't yielded the required dividends. He also told Peter to return to his old party APGA which he had vowed to APGA party elders that he would NEVER leave or decamp from, but he did eventually decamp for the PDP, and then decamped again to LP and is set as a serial decamper to move to another political party thereby showing his political inconsistencies! Period.

FoodRe: Eating Too Much Of These 9 Nigerian Foods May Kill You by Konquest: 10:04pm On Apr 27, 2025
DanielBryte:
Fufu is dangerous, Eba can kill you!! Doctors make shocking discoveries about some favourite Nigerian foods that can send you to early grave- Details can save your life

While food is good for the body and necessary for survival, humans are also expected to be wary of the meals they ingest and the rate at which they consume them. Some types of food, if taken excessively, are capable of causing health risks. The onus is on you to learn why certain foods are unhealthy, why you shouldn’t take them and how you can make better choices on daily basis.

Here are some unhealthy meals Doctors have warned Nigerians to be cautious
about their consumption:

Egusi soup:

At the mention of this soup, many will salivate as it is much-loved by many Nigerians… but hold that saliva. Egusi contains something called phytosterols which when consumed, compete with cholesterol for absorption in the digestive system.

Also, egusi has a high level of calories and when garnished with few chunks of stock fish and two pieces of meat, it has a total of roughly 700 calories per serving. Imagine consuming it with about 3 wraps of eba which is about 600 calories.

Loaf of sliced bread:

Bread is widely consumed daily across the country especially because it doesn’t have to be cooked before consumption. Bread belongs to the class of starchy foods and overt consumption increases the risk of getting diabetes.

If you are taking in 100 grams of bread, you are consuming 265 calories, especially if it is white bread. Some Nigerian-made breads are also not completely bromate free. Potassium bromate is added to help strengthen the bread dough and this chemical is cancerous. If you can steer off bread, there are other excellent choices that are low in carbs.

One minute Noodles:

While noodles can’t be called a Nigerian food, it has been adopted into Nigeria’s stream of foods such that it is consumed by both young and old. Nigerians go for noodles because it is cheap, easy and fast to cook, hence the name “instant noodles.”

Tests have revealed that noodles contain high sodium which aside being cancerous, causes heart disease and skin damage. Eating too much of noodles is bad for digestion and it also leads to obesity.

Eba:

Processed from cassava, garri is a food rich in carbohydrate; both the yellow and the white type. Garri helps to restore lost energy but a high rate of consumption does more harm than good. A cup of garri contains about 360 calories, 95% of which is carbohydrates and further consumption with soup, meat and/or fish, increases the level of calories.

Consuming a great deal of starchy foods like eba is like welcoming excess weight with open arms.

Fufu, made from cassava:

Fufu is another staple food made from cassava and its origin can be traced to Ghana. Fufu is of good nutritional value as it is rich in protein, fat, carbohydrates, potassium and low in cholesterol. Some are turned off by the smell that fufu gives and/or the fact that it takes longer time to digest.

Research has it that every part of cassava plant has a toxic chemical called Linamarin. This chemical, even after boiling the cassava, doesn’t change its state and this could be harmful during digestion.

Image result for Fufu
Also, under-processing of fufu, which is rampant, has harmful implications on the health. This is because the cyanide content is not reduced to a non-toxic state. Women and children are susceptible to cyanide poisoning as they are usually the ones who carry out the processing of fufu.

Fried plantain:

There is a meme trending on social media about plantain which reads, “How can you say in good faith that the God who created plantain doesn’t love you?”. This is proof of the love people have for plantain. Granted, plantain is a good source of carbohydrates, vitamin B6, vitamin C and is also a natural remedy for peptic ulcer.

However, plantain contains a considerable amount of carbohydrates and more calories are produced when it is fried in oil. Also, the water content decreases when fried and this might not be satiating enough.

Integrating plantain into your diet is making way for ample calorie intake. Taking 100 grams of plantain is consuming about 30 grams of carbohydrates, 15 grams of sugar and 120 calories. Other methods of cooking plantain (aside frying) should be adopted if one cannot live without plantain.

Pastries:

There’s an endless list of flour-based pastries which are baked, fried or roasted and are often taken between meals. Healthy snacking helps you maintain physical and mental energy and it also helps one have control over main meals. Snacking is however, only healthy when it is done to control appetite and meet nutritional needs. It shouldn’t become a habit because many snack foods are high in fat, calories, sugar and salt.

One tends to gain extra pounds through added daily calories if snacking is done out of boredom or habit. Consuming too many sugary pastries could also lead to tooth decay. Endeavour to avoid buying pastries on the street. Home-made pastries are advisable as one is sure of the type of oil used for the preparation. Oil when used over time becomes acidic but most sellers tend to keep old oil in use and keep frying with oil which is already harmful to

Rice:
Rice is rich in carbohydrates and fairly low in calories. It is a good source of energy because it is carbohydrate-dense. Consuming too much of carbohydrate-dense foods may cause one to eat little of other nutritious meals needed for a healthy life.

Eating too much rice could adversely affect glucose metabolism in the body. White rice contains about 4 grams of fiber per cup and consuming it in excess would fill one up preventing intake of other foods.

White rice is also low in phytic acid because of the bran which is always removed during processing. Ample research has it that white rice increases the risk of getting diabetes. It is advisable to consume brown rice or reduce the rate of white rice
consumption.

Pounded yam:

A lot of Nigerians love pounded yam and it is widely consumed across the country. Pounded yam is a source of carbohydrate and a good source of energy which contains dietary fiber that helps reduce constipation.

Pounded yam is high in calories as a small slice of yam contains about 330 calories and one tin cup of pounded yam contains about 400 calories from carbohydrates alone. Pounded yam has the highest glycemic index compared to boiled yam and the process of arriving at pounded yam makes carbohydrates more available to enzymes that disintegrate the carbohydrates to glucose.

Eating pounded yam is consuming calories with no real nutrition. Diabetic patients are advised to steer off foods with high starch and embrace foods with low starch.

Source: https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/eating-much-10-foods-may-kill/
Bump.

A very impressive post. I love the FACT that the article referenced the high Glycemic Index level of pounded yams which higher than 70 which is ABOVE normal. Boiled yam slices (with the peels still on) will help you to reduce the GI level of boiled yams to below 40 instead of the above 70 GI level for pounded yams. Frying of yams ALSO CLEARLY increases the glycemic level which the leads to diabetes, hence leg amputations, high blood pressure, etc.

Unripe plantains when boiled or steamed are ALSO way BETTER than ripe plantain which causes a high GI level OR rapid spikes on the blood glucose levels especially for pre-diabetis and diabetis folks.

We are all working and paying high taxes for the benefits of future French generations.
It's highly IRRESPONSIBLE for a young person like you to post an unverified and blatant historical LIE here on NL that the now President Bola Tinubu ran away from the United States and hid some loot in France in the 1990s. This is a pure act of "criminal defamation" on your part and already 5 gullible posters have already clicked on the like button thinking you are telling the truth in your post right on Page 1, BUT you aren't! You should be ashamed of yourself! I'm someone who hates liars and injustice of any kind to anybody. The fact that you don't like Tinubu doesn't mean you should come on Nairaland to defame him with historically FALSE information which is criminal of you under the online defamation laws in any country of the world. If Tinubu does anything you think is wrong, give constructive criticisms that offer genuine solutions NOT negativity.

I have been aware for decades now that President Bola Tinubu [who is a U.S-educated Chartered Accountant, Auditor and technocrat rose to the senior rank of a treasurer at the prestigious multinational corporation Mobil Nigeria (now ExxonMobil Nigeria) before contesting for a Senatorial position back in the early 1990s] has been traveling to the United States on vacation every year since the 1993 case ended and the U.S. Federal court did NOT find him guilty. He only forfeited about $450,000 and then over $1,800,000 was returned into Bola Tinubu's 8 U.S checking accounts (or bank accounts). He was NEVER convicted of any crime and the U.S. Federal authority does NOT do plea bargains with "drug barons" and drug traffickers because they will simply throw you right into jail after court trials and seize ALL your so-called assets tainted with illicit drugs money! Even after Tinubu had purchased his private jet, he flies in and out of the United States yearly and freely anytime he and his family wants. It was right in Chicago, Illinois that Tinubu went into political exile after the June 12, 1993 pro-democracy struggle started because the military dictatorship of Abacha was jailing and assassinating political activists and Tinubu was responsible for accommodating several exiled politicians in the United States because he was NOT a poor man but already wealthy as of the 1990s. These are the things those of us who are older witnessed.

Very soon, those of you posting FAKE news to defame the Nigerian President and other innocent people on this NL discussion forum and other online platforms will be shocked when you are picked right up like "little snails" for posting these kinds of highly insulting posts in the public domain because you can be digitally traced easily. Then you will begin to cry endlessly for your gross indiscretions online. Nairaland is NOT and has NEVER been an anonymous site and people have been arrested for posting FALSHOODS in the past.

As far back as 2003, even the U.S. Embassy in Lagos State CLEARLY stated through Michael Bonner the then Legal Attache of the United States Embassy in an official document attached right BELOW that the now President Tinubu is NOT wanted for any crime in the U.S. and has NEVER had any criminal case or conviction record in the United States' FBI National Crime Information Center (Or NCIC) which is a "Central Database" containing the names of all known criminal convictions in the entire history of the United States.

@Redbonesmith

First off, you aren't quoting a historically ignorant young person here. As a history veteran and older person, I have vast knowledge of Nigerian history including advanced collection of history books and personal archival materials in my home libraries right from the year 1981. It's totally "unwise" of you to say that I "lied" against the late Adiele Afigbo without getting to hear the full specifics from me.

Are you trying to fanatically imply that Afigbo himself was above confirmation bias or mistakes that you have to place him on a pedestal? I even have a Guardian newspaper full-page article interview from the late 1990s where Afigbo himself CLEARLY stated what you are now trying to counter me for. That's NOT how to engage in intellectual conversations. I personally like to deal with evidence-based convos and expositions. If I hadn't had past convos with you before now and knowing full well that you're originally from Illah (which like Ebu, Asaba, and Okpanam, etc, is one of the Igala-associated communities in the Anioma area of Delta North) that I've had an interest in knowing more about since the early 1990s and you give some informed perspectives on this discussion forum, I wouldn't have bothered posting this reply.

In any event, I don't readily have the source materials on the late Adiele Afigbo that you requested for right now but when I'm able to lay my hands on them, I'll share them with you.

The post from the OP on Page 1 is CLEARLY one of the most IRRESPONSIBLE fabrications and revisionist articles from any Ibo person that I've ever read online or offline in my decades of advanced historical knowledge acquisition!

The original Ugbos of Ufe (Ife) who Moremi had an encounter with are pure Yorubas and a completely different set of people from those people living predominantly across the East of River Niger. The Ibos of the East of River Niger have NEVER been indigenes OR aborigenes of Ufe (Ife). NEVER! The Ugbos are pure Yorubas like I said above, who migrated from Ufe (Ife) based on Ifa divination instructions and they are located right now in Ugbo Kingdom in the oil and gas-rich Ilaje area of Ondo State. The current Oba Frederick Akinrutan of Ugbo Kingdom is direct descent of the original aboriginal Ugbos of Ufe (Ife) but NOW based in Ondo State after migrating out, BUT they still have their ancestral family compounds in Ile Ife just like the indigenous Awori-Yoruba people who straddle both sides of the Lagos and Ogun States borders ALSO have their ancestral family compounds in Ile Ife. All the Awori Obas not too long ago visited Ile Ife as a homage to their direct males ancestor Olofin Ogunfunminire who was an Ife Prince who had migrated from Ufe or Ife to what is now Ogun and Lagos States. The Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Frederick Akinrutan's Palace ALSO CLEARLY issued a Press Release warning the notorious elements among the Ibos to STOP spreading disinformation online and FALSELY claiming that Ugbo is the same as Ibo which it's NOT.

Enough of this relentless narcissism, disinformation and historical revisionism from a section of the Ibos especially online.

ImperialYoruba:
There is no tribe known as Igbo. Ibo is the correct tribal identifier. However, after studying history of Nigeria and the roots of indigenous people and Ibo could not be traced to any significant greatness in the region, Chinua Achebe, a man respected amongst his people for his penmanship updated Ibo to Igbo and led a rewrite and revision to attach Ibo to Igbo and thus to Ife and its history. He did not appear to know about the existence of Ugbo people in Ondo State.

His revision had for a time being gained ground and spread due to initial under-estimation and dismissal by Yoruba historians as inconsequential account. This is similar to the attempted revision by last Oba of Bini, claiming Bini was not an offshoot of Yoruba dynasty.

Soon Yoruba historians, and in particular Ugbo priests and their King laid out in detail and chronology order, citing their culture, shrines, deities, belief systems, worship, customs, songs, dance, and many other customs of their land are mirrored in Ife, and challenging Achebe to, not only refute them with facts but also, give chronological footprint of Ibo or Igbo in Ile Ife.

The outcome was that another rewrite displaced the previous in which Ile Ife dissapeared from Achebe's claims of ownership. Unfortunately for him, the term Igbo had caught on in a wild spread and gained acceptance by Ibo people and so it remained till today. The word Biafra is another steal from the people of oil coast who were the original Biafrans.
They did not fight back and so Ibos succeeded in taking ownership and claiming Biafra.

There were two literary frauds in Ibo history known for stealing ideas and cultural roots that belonged elsewhere in a much respected civilization and converting it into a Ibo story and history to gain similarity respect and cognition. They failed in some they succeeded in some. Achebe is known for historical rewrites, Acholonu is known for art theft.

The frauds:
1 - Chinua Achebe
2 - Catherine Acholonu
Succinctly stated.

Adiele Afigbo too is among the Ibo historians who peddled that same irresponsible disinformation you accused Achebe and Acholonu of doing. I have read Prof. Adiele Afigbo's works since the 1990s and he too sought to irresponsibly and dubiously claime that the places having "Igbo" as prefixes and suffixes in Yorubaland and his own part of South Eastern Nigeria have direct connections.

Some even FALSELY claim that Ibos gave birth to other nearby Nigerian ethnic groups such as the entire Igalas, the Idomas, right up to Benin, etc, which have been denied by these ethnic groups, and even one clown of Ibo origin that I saw on YouTube was trying to strongly convince a South African that the Zulus migrated from the Ibo area in Nigeria but the South African guy took him to the cleaners by poking holes in his baseless historical revisionism.
Why these Ibo historians and writers developed a narcissistic penchant for stealing other ethnic groups' ancestral histories and claiming them as that of Ibos is a study in mental laziness, impulsiveness and other negative virtues exhibited by narcissists due to a lack of proper moral and cultural foundation.

LAMATA Goes Wood: Innovative Solution to Drain Manhole Cover Theft

Why NOT try thick recycled plastic manhole covers? Some plastic factories can easily make customized moulds to make thick manhole covers for Lagos State.

Some imbecilic people and irresponsible homeless migrants to Lagos can easily steal the wood used here by LAMATA for cooking and heating during harmattan.

many of these people will swear they are doing good for their ethnicities by clinging to other people but its just an insult to me, telling the world that we dont have our own history. At least this case it's yoruba-Igbo

it gets worse when an igbo person will be reading Bible to learn Igbo history and start saying nonsense about Igbos originating from Israel
Succinctly put.

OlaoChi:
learning igbo history from yoruba history or hebrew history will only make you look insane. 'Igbo' is the Oyo/standard yoruba dialectical variation, just like Ife is really 'Ufe', it is Ugbo of Ondo state not SE nigerian Igbos
Bump.
