Facebook- America’s modern monitoring system?

Infowars.com published an article recently saying Facebook is, “the new look of surveillance.” And this got me worried. I have a Facebook, I’m sure youhave a Facebook, and about 9 million other people have a Facebook as well. For some reason Facebook never entered my brain as a tool for mass monitoring. I knew it was a place for predators, perverts, and rapists, as they tell me, but not for the government. It’s a social network for keeping in touch with people and for playing old games from the eighties. This is the biggest double take that my brain has ever succumb to. Now I understand every social network is basically a way of big brother to watch you. Myspace, Facbook, Xanga, all of them! Let’s look at what they ask you when signing up for one of these accounts:

Your sex, full name, address, all phone numbers, political views, religion, birthday, email, zip-code, websites, Sm’s, sexuality, activities, interests, class year, college, high school, elementary school, employer, company, position in that company, a photo of yourself, and anything else you are willing to add.

Of course, you’re really only required to put your name. But then again, that’s really all they need isn’t it? Things like Facebook and Myspace just make it easier for them to target you. And with organized posting, they can monitor what you are discussing on-line.

But it’s not like Facebook is some evil corporation trying to brainwash you or something right? Facebook is just an independent group of people who run a very popular website. But let’s look at who owns a piece of Facebook, and see who’s really in charge.

Viacom. One of the big 6 evils in the media. Owners of Viacom are part of the CFR which makes them an Illuminati member. (Illuminati members are the government). Google also has a large peice of Facebook. A couple million dollars worth actually. The CEO and head chairmen of Google Eric E. Schmidt is part of the Bilderburg Group which is a large stone of the Illuminati. The Illuminati own Facebook just as they own everything else.

This is a warning to everyone with social networks. The government and the Illuminati are watching you, be careful what you do and what you write because they will know

North ‘ll Cause Another Civil War – Asari

BY John Bulus

ABUJA—Former President of Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, and leader of Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Dokubo Asari, has said that those scheming to remove President Goodluck Jonathan from office were fanning the embers of war in Nigeria.

He also accused Northern leaders of creating the atmosphere of insecurity in the country.

Asari, who addressed newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, recalled that the Isa Kaita, who he said represented a collection of Northern oligarchy, had prior to 2011 general elections, declared that they will make Nigeria ungovernable for Jonathan should he eventually emerged as President, pointing out that incessant bombings and killings credited to the North-based Boko Haram was the manifestation of the threat by Kaita.

Asari also said the North will be the greatest losers should the war begin. He said: “On Boko Haram, the North will lose. We are just waiting; they will push us to an extent where we will tell Goodluck Jonathan that he is on his own. But what will happen will be one that will be unimaginable in the history of the world.

“We will cut them (the Northerners) off from the world. We are capable of doing that. There will be no food and they will pay dearly for their actions. This war will be no joke. There will be no army to prosecute the war for them. When the war starts, other ethnic groups like the Yoruba will tell the North ‘you are on your own.’

“We are saying that nothing must happen to Jonathan because if anything happens to him, the world will know. The arrogance of Boko Haram is un-Islamic. The type of bomb they are using is small. If we begin to throw bombs, nobody will stay in Abuja.

“We don’t manufacture bomb but we will buy them and dynamites. I started armed struggle in the Niger Delta. It is because of Goodluck Jonathan that we kept quiet.

“But soon, we will not be able to guarantee our patience any more. If Ijaw people should retaliate, every household in the North will cry. It is the North that needs peace more than us. Everybody must impress it on them that they should sheathe their swords and drop their arrogance.”

Asari said it was an insult on President Jonathan for him to be asked by Boko Haram to convert to Islam or resign his position. He warned that the Ijaw nation will retaliate should anything happen to Jonathan.

He urged President Jonathan to urgently convene a Sovereign National Conference, SNC, which he said was long overdue, to determine the future of Nigeria amidst the ethnic nationalities.

*Inaugural meeting to hold after Ramadan
*’Why peace move may hit brick wall’
*Prof. Akinyemi proposes Eminent Persons Group

By Jide Ajani

Consequent upon the continuing insurgency in the northern part of Nigeria, coupled with the “internecine crises raging across the land”, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida have intensified efforts to mobilize other former heads of state.

This latest mobilization drive by both men would be extended to cover other national leaders of thought in the country.

Though Sunday Vanguard was not told the modalities that would be used to “determine how the leaders of thought would be selected”, it was nonetheless suggested that “both men are reaching across the broad spectrum of Nigeria’s leadership cadre with a view to finding lasting solutions to the plethora of highly combustible issues confronting the present administration”.

Possibly, according to what was suggested by information made available by a very dependable source close to both men, the inaugural meeting of the leaders, expected to hold immediately after this month of Ramadan, “may crystallize into a new body whose mandate would go beyond solving the immediate challenges confronting Nigeria”.

AKINYEMI ON NATIONAL EMINENT PERSONS GROUP, NEPG
Former Foreign Affairs Minister, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, had told Sunday Vanguard in September 2010, at the height of the zoning crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that “time has become ripe for Nigeria to have a NATIONAL EMINENT PERSONS GROUP, NEPG”.

Former Presidents Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo

According to Akinyemi, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard again yesterday, “The proposal I made in 2010 is today very much relevant because the time has come for Nigeria to have such a body. You would recall that in an interview with you in May, I reminded you of the same idea which would go a long way to help resolve some of the problems confronting the government of the day; as well as some of the perennial challenges that are becoming a part of Nigeria’s crises-laden life”.

He continued: “Such a body would be completely apolitical and would operate separately and distinctly from the NATIONAL COUNCIL OF STATES, NCS. In the NCS, you have state governors and past leaders some of whom have openly shown their preference for political platforms and as such, some of the arguments and discussions aat the NCS would likely be shaped by party positions.

“But a NATIONAL EMINENT PERSONS GROUP would be constituted in such a way that political cleavages would not be brought in since almost all the leaders in such a body would not be known to have political affiliations. These leaders would also be the ones to go back to their respective communities to preach peace as well and give a feed back to the body on the potential issues that are likely going to create larger national crises. Though it would be advisory, such a body is likely to go very far because it would be divorced from the day to day politicking that seems to becloud everything we try to do in this country”.

On Obasanjo and Babangida’s peace initiative, Professor Akinyemi said “any initiative at a time like this for peace to reign in the country makes a lot of sense”.

WHY PEACE MOVE MAY HIT BRICK WALL
In separate interviews with some national leaders, Sunday Vanguard was made to understand that whereas the move initiated by Obasanjo and Babangida is a welcome one at a time of national crises like this, the “down side is that it did not enjoy broad consensus”.

A two-time minister from North West Nigeria, who insisted on talking on condition of anonymity, said: “I think both men know what they are trying to do but they should have involved past leaders like General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, General Muhammadu Buhari, Ernest Shonekan and General Abdulsalam Abubakar. If they had collectively issued that statement of last Sunday, it would have carried more weight.

“The two leaders are known members of the PDP.
“One had served for eight years as President while the other attempted to get the party’s ticket on two separate occasions. Now, when the two men come out to issue a statement on the state of the nation and the need for peace, is it not their party that is at the centre of governance? The roles of the two men while they were leaders, when looked into critically, can not be divorced in any way – just as roles played by all past leaders – from the present state of affairs in the country”.

Another very vocal Second Republic legislator told Sunday Vanguard that “they should have broadened the scope of their move. It would sound funny if you now begin to say Buhari or Shagari has joined forces with both men to seek peace.

BROADENING OF SCOPE
As if mindful of the sentiments voiced by those concerned about the stature of Obasanjo and Babangida, a source close to both men said: “Moves are already on and contact being made with past leaders.

“Both leaders know that the challenges confronting Nigeria today require all hands to be on deck and they suggested that in their statement of last Sunday.

“Yes, a tree can not make a forest and that is why they are also reaching out. What is wrong in a peace initiative? This is Nigeria and whatever people do, some are bound to find faults. The country needs all hands to be on deck now”.

Last Sunday, both former presidents had issued a statement raising concerns about the state of the nation and all but said the present administration was clueless. They advised that President Goodluck Jonathan should scale up his efforts.
PoliticsSubsidy Fraud Suspects Docked, Granted Bail by Korrection(op): 8:25am On Jul 27, 2012
By Abdulwahab Abdulah, Henry Umoru & Onozure Dania

LAGOS—The long awaited prosecution of oil marketers who allegedly defrauded the Federal Government of N304 billion in the oil subsidy scam commenced, yesterday, at the Ikeja judicial division of Lagos State High Court. Five directors of the affected oil companies were arraigned.

Those who were docked include Mahmud Tukur, son of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the incumbent chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Maman Nasir Ali, son of Ahmadu Ali, former chairman of PDP, and Abdulahi Alao, son of Ibadan-based business man, Alhaji Azeez Arisekola-Alao. The three of them were granted bail but Arisekola-Alao’s son, Abdulahi will not enjoy his freedom until he is granted bail in his second case before another judge, Justice Habeeb Abiru.

SUSPECTS—From right: Fuel subsidy scam suspects, Mahmud Tukur, Abdulahi Alao, Mamman Nassir Ali and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) official, during the suspects’ arraignment at the Ikeja High Court, Lagos, yesterday. Photo: Bunmi Azeez.

Two others who were also arraigned were Ochonogor Alex and Christian Taylor.

While one of the charges came up before Justice Habeeb Abiru, two other charges were entertained by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, also of the Ikeja High Court.

Contrary to expectation, the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, in whose instance the arraignment of the accused was delayed till yesterday to enable him personally handle the cases, was not in court to lead the prosecution team.

EFCC counsel, Mr Rotimi Jacobs said the minister was away on official matters.

Just as it happened , Wednesday, the EFCC claimed ignorance of the whereabouts of the first defendant, Wagbatsoma, who was not in court. His lawyer, however, told the court that his client travelled outside the country but promised he would be available next Wednesday.

In the first case before Justice Habeeb Abiru, Arisekola-Alao’s son, Abdulahi and his company, Axenergy were arraigned on a seven-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining over N5 billion under false pretence and forgery of documents. After the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty, while his counsel, Mr. Babajide Koku, SAN, applied for his bail.

The EFCC counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs, however, opposed the bail application arguing that he needed to reply on point of law to the motion for bail. Abdulahi Alao’s bail application was therefore adjourned till August 1.

In Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo’s court, where Mahmud Tukur, Mamman Nasir, Abdulahi Alao, Christian Taylor and Eterna Oil and Gas PLC. had their day, they were all accused of obtaining different sums of money running into over six billion naira under false pretence.

They were also accused of forging several importation and shipping documents to allegedly commit fraud. The prosecution alleged that the accused had between January and April 2011 in Lagos, fraudulently obtained the sum of N1.8 billion from the Federal Government. They were accused of obtaining the money from the Petroleum Support Fund for the purported importation of 80.3 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The accused persons were also alleged to have forged a Bill of lading dated April 28, 2011, which they used in facilitating the fraud and therefore contravened Sections 467 and 468 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2003.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and then proceeded to argue their application for bail.

In spite of the strong opposition from the EFCC, Justice Onigbanjo released them on bail in the sum of N20 million with two Sureties in like sum.

According to the court, one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused.

He said: “The other surety must be a level 16 officer in the Lagos State or Federal Civil Service.

“The sureties must produce three years tax clearance and they must be verified by the chief registrar of the high court. The accused persons are to deposit their international passports with the EFCC which must not be released without the express permission of the court”.

Beside, one of the sureties is also expected to own a property worth two hundred million naira in Lagos.

The judge, however, adjourned the case involving Tukur, Alex, Alao and Eterna Oil and Gas till November 13 while that of Nasaman Oil Services, Ali and Taylor was adjourned till October 30, 2012.

You are on your own, PDP to Tukur’s son

Meanwhile the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday distanced itself from Mahmud Tukur, the embattled son of its National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over fuel subsidy fraud.

Addressing Journalists, yesterday, on the outcome of the meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC, Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja who cleared the name of the PDP National Chairman from the oil subsidy scandal, stressed that his son was old enough to carry his cross.

Flanked by the PDP National Treasurer, Bala Kaoje; the Deputy National Chairman noted that the subsidy scandal as it relates to Mahmud Tukur, was not a party issue and as such, the law should take its course.

He said: “On the issue of some PDP members being involved in oil subsidy, these are individuals, everybody bears his own cross. There are governors who are now facing prosecution as a result of their actions and inactions, so it is not a party thing.

“PDP did not send anybody to go and misbehave. Even if you mention my Chairman’s son, he is up to age, assuming he is to go to jail they will not come and jail the National Chairman, because he did not send him. He is a man of age and he has his household; he has his family, everybody accounts for his own position and, of course, it has been mentioned, until they are proved guilty they still remain innocent.

“The party cannot just get out and breathe down on them and begin to condemn them, they will be given equal opportunity to defend themselves in competent courts of law, and until they are found guilty, then the party will come out and take a position. For the party now to begin to condemn them is absolutely premature and prejudicial.”

CALEB AYANSINA
ABUJA – Nigerian Army, Thursday, unveiled and presented vehicle stoppers to some Churches and Mosques, as part of its corporate social responsibility in curtailing the spate of suicide bombing at worship centres across the country.

Presenting the devices in Abuja, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major Gen. Bitrus Kwaji said the vehicle stoppers were designed to stop any vehicle from all angle at any speed.

Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Bitrus Kwaji (L), presenting the New Vehicle Stopper, Donated by the Nigerian Army to Pastor Monday Chukwuemeka Okonkwo of the Methodist Diocese of Nyanya in Abuja on Thursday.NAN Photo

He added that the anti-bombing devices would be distributed to the representatives of Christian and Muslim bodies, who should in turn produce it in mass for distribution, while stressing that security is everybody’s business.

His words, “it has been discovered that most attacks of suicide bombers are being carried out with vehicles loaded with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The mode of operation is simple as a suicide bomber drives his vehicle straight into his target and explosion occurs.

“In order to disallow bombers from reaching their targets, this invention comes in handy as it forcefully stops any vehicle that comes in contact with it at whatever speed.

“The unfolding security challenges confronting the nation amongst which is the Boko Haram terrorist menace have continued to hinder the congress of the transformation agenda of Mr President as well as the development of the nation at large.

“The terrorists over the years have continued to attack places of worship (churches and mosques) in order to destabilize the nation. This has necessitated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to charge all corps and services of the Nigerian Army to provide ways and means of curtailing this menace.

“This charge has yielded a lot of responses as we witnessed the commissioning of an indigenous Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) by the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces during the recently concluded Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Kaduna.

Receiving the devices on behalf of the Religion Bodies, Very Rev. Monday Okonkwo of the Methodist Church, Nyanya and the Executive Secretary of the National Mosque Abuja, Alh. Ibrahim Jega expressed satisfaction with Military Authorities, just as they promised to be security conscious, to complement the efforts of security agents, in riding the country of terrorism”.

They also called on faithful to join hands with authorities in their various churches and mosques, to prevent any further attack, and report any suspicion to the relevant authorities, insisting that, government can not do it alone.
