Progressive and civilised societies never lay claim to a single progenitor. The British and Americans are descendants of various traditions of Normandy, Celt, and Scotts. Even the Chinese do not lay claim to a single Hun tradition.

Same with the African indegenous peopls of Ndigbo. There were several iron-working civilizations that existed thousands of years. Areas such as Nri, Nsukka, Igbo-Ukwu and Aro lay credence to the development and spread of Igbo.

What is this watery bunkum on how a single man gave birth to millions? Or who appeared with a cock and sand to create earth and started life!

By now the British backers of this savages must be regretting their action. The oligarchs still delude themselves that 1966 is same as today but it will be too late for them to realise that the power dynamics have changed.

Of course do the British expect anything short of a dumb and conceited in-your-face hubris from a backward people foisted on progressive groups?

Politics / Re: What Does The North Has To Show For Over 35years Of Leading Nigeria? by Kponkwem(m): 8:02pm On Dec 05, 2013
Me_Aboki: @1025:
You hit the nail on the head with your 1st post but unfortunately resorted to the usual Igbo self-centered mode of reasoning no sooner than after being prompted by your kinfolks.

@ SLIDE waxie:
Very witty and apt response cheesy grin

@ Topic:
Southerners are the cause of all this wahala (particularly Igbos - its no wonder hardly anyone likes them, even this thread is started by one of them to castigate the north, for the crimes of their fore-bearers).

They derailed our nascent democracy because they couldn't accept the rules of democratic majority which gave power to the north in our 1st republic, so they took over by force - thereby opening the Pandora's ox of military dictatorship that took us over 37 yrs to overcome.

Ironsi, a southerner, was the one who abolished our post independence regional govt s and introduced the unitary system we have inherited today, the motivation was to selfishly concentrate power to himself and favor his Igbo kinsmen at that time - ironically this is basic very system which the present generation of southerners are bitterly opposed to, since it no longer favors them.

Due to their greed and selfishness, southerners have resorted to distorting the true concept of democracy to suit themselves:
First, by insisting on rotational presidency in order to guarantee power revolves to them, through this 'by hook or by crook' skewed arrangement - yet they have the audacity to say northerners have a born to rule mentality.
Secondly, they insisted on dividing the country into geopolitical zones in order the dilute the north's superior numeral advantage for the same reasons.
Thirdly, despite the above given concessions, they are ones failing to honor the basic agreement of power shifting in timely manner between the north and south; as well as exemplified by the dishonesty of current president in reneging against his much publicized intra-party agreement with his northern colleagues.
Even though his governance is setting unprecedented records of gross mismanagement punctuated with milestones of corrupt scandals, one after the other, yet his kinsmen are making an issue of not only celebrating such ineptitude but also of prolonging it - by yet again shifting the goal post - in the rueful hypocrisy of our son can do no wrong.

Unfortunately, its the Igbos that are losing out, they pride themselves with intelligence yet they proving to be the most politically backward and myopic of all the major groups.
They are aggressively pursuing tribal politics by putting all their eggs in one basket in the form blind support of this president and AFGA , a party without any base beyond the Igbo enclave of the SE, yet they are hoping to have their turn of the presidency without appreciating that politics requires reaching out, identifying, compromise and sharing with others; instead they continue to foster hatred and mistrust thereby further isolating themselves - and should they fail in this ambition they'll be the first to cry marginalization.

You've made your points. But sorry to disappoint you, majority Igbos will prefer we decentralise the country. That way we won't keep fighting over who produces the president.

By the way this country, this unity is running on southern oil wells. When the North had their groundnut and viable farms, they planned large scale secessionist genocaust against the Igbo and other easterners calling for araba! They stationed soldiers in western region preparatory to take over of the entire south before the first coup plotters struck.

This country is getting to the point where you northerners will realize you are feeding off the south and therefore should allow them run thing here. Or else...

You are so dumb for failing to recognise the significance of Ojukwu or a Nelson Mandela. He represents the aspiration of the Igboman for freedom under the sun as provided in the United Nations Charter. The aspiration for a fresh breath in a place safe and secured from the massacres and carnage of the Nigerian conundrum.

That people like you don't apppreciate him shows how long it will take this myopic generation to reach an ideological, free, just, and egaliterian society.

Your comment is disappointing!

the myopic
bushwailo: I don't understand how this Ojukwu guy is an Igbo legend/Role model in any way.
he led a futile war were millions of his people perished for nothing only to abscond at the last minute.
He came back and joined the a party led by Northerners against the Igbo party at the time.
He married a girl young enough to be his daughter.
He disowned his own child and had illegitimate children with Norther prostitutes.

Still some dumb fools still worship the guy

Politics / Obiano, Umeh Pay Homage At Ojukwu's Graveside by Kponkwem(m): 8:14pm On Dec 03, 2013
Charles Onyekanmuo and Kasie Abone

The National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, yesterday visited the graveside of the party's leader, the late Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, at his Nnewi country home to formally dedicate the party's victory in the Anambra State  gubernatorial election to his memory.

Umeh was accompanied by the  governor-elect, Dr. Willie Obiano, his wife, Ebelechukwu, the deputy governor-elect, Dr. Nkem Okeke, party chieftains and traditional ruler of Aguleri, among others.

The visit came on the heels of the presentation certificate of return to Obiano and Okeke by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The entourage on arrival at Ojukwu's country home went straight to his mausoleum, offered some prayers and told him to bless the Obiano. Umeh said it was important the ritual of consulting the deceased, who until his death was the leader of the party, be upheld because he was consulted  before the party began its campaign for the election in July.

He said: "Eze Igbo Gburugburu, we have come to greet you. If you remember when we were going for the battle in the seventh month of this year, we came to tell you that the die was cast and that you would lead us because we felt that if we called you, we would have victory. Now that victory has been achieved, we have come to inform you."

Earlier, INEC had presented the  certificate of return to     Obiano and   Okeke. Handing over the certificate to the duo,  INEC National Commissioner representing Anambra, Enugu and Benue States, Ambassador Laurence Nwauruku, who represented the National Chairman of the commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said God had seen the electoral umpire through the election.

He praised Anambra people for being civilised and enlightened, factors that had enabled the state to shun violence during the poll.

In his response, Obiano expressed happiness, saying the issuance of the certificate to him and his running mate has formally brought the electoral process to an end.
He dedicated his victory to God while thanking Anambra people for their massive support, which earned APGA victory at the poll .

He called on the people to unite to work for the progress of the state, adding that the time has come to build on the progress made by the Governor, Mr.  Peter Obi.

"I will need everybody's prayer, support and advice to deliver on your expectations," he said.
In addition, Obiano expressed gratitude to Umeh's resilience and doggedness during the election, which contributed immensely to APGA's victory at the poll.
Umeh on his part, hailed the conduct of the election, saying it was   free and fair.

How can NW bring far more than SE and SS? I know you are sold on that illusory of a population superiority. Yet after all they did in 2011 including use of child voters, GEJ's strong xtian and SE support across the zones trounced them thoroughly.

ilugunboy:

His constituency ...the NW brings electoral value of 18M votes....far more than what the SE & SS combined brings to the table.

That is a huge asset to any political party.

Ignorant posters will think Obiano doesn't deserve his post. But if the election is conducted hundred times, APGA will win the election in Anambra.

The spirit of Ojukwu and the fact that it is the party in power gives it enough lever to brace upon. If you have a beef with INEC you go sort yourselves out, and leave APGA out of your misadventure.

Lest I forget, Obiano is the most qualified of all the candidates in that election!

If you know the pressure and stresses faced by several adjunct Igbo communities in the civil war during the push to the mainland, you will appreciate why these things happened.

I am going to write a piece on this soon. The Ikwerre was among the areas created as Rivers State and 'liberated' from Eastern region by the Federal forces of Gowon in 1967. So when the areas were overran by Adekunle's forces etc, they had to remain seperate to avoid similar fate as their Igbo cousins- who were then blockaded, strafed and starved in thousands.

I don't blame them for the pyschology discomfiture of that era but the only worry is the continuing denial of their Igboness after many years and generations are now stuck in this serious identity dysfunctional syndrome.

I even consider it an insult for him to make such cynical comment. I think the ibos deserve the leaders they get cos instead of charging them to serve the people, they tend to be sentimental and celebrate mediocrity. They prefer to criticize the government of their host states than their own home state.

This is karma finally visiting Nigeria for the civil war atrocities against ndigbo. I saw this coming, and after it the earthquakes, that results from prolonged exploitation and despoliation of the environment, follows.

The North was asked by the British to strenghten the centre and control it, when Eastern region opted for confederation, British interpreted it as secession along with new found oil fields of the East and asked Gowon to "stop it whatever the costs."

Today the North completely abandoned agriculture, SW abandoned cocoa and the SS abandoned their Igbo brothers to align with external forces.

Finally chicken coming home to roost!

Nigerian oil has a lifespan less than 10 years. So the best bet for Ndigbo is to begin to redirect their investments back home. The struggle for Presidency is always about the oil resources, let nobody be deceived, that era is permanently over in Nigeria!
Nigeria must brace for these twin evils: Its either people control their resources or oil's influence globally continues to diminish. In all, let the Igbo stand for social justice as always.
