Bryan12:You are welcome to here. |

People are very ignorant. Marburg has been around for aome time. |
Maburg Virus has been around for a very long time, just like Ebola. Its just that it has been confined to a very small geographical location. |
eejo:I dont think its Boko Haram, I think its either Ansaru or Jambs. These two groups have been known to operate in Kogi State in the past. I beleive our security guys should really focus intently on that state, that state is a potential time-bomb for the Middle-belt area. |
Google is your best friend. |
onlinebenefits:Very interested. |
GANDALF1:Come to Zenith Bank, Makurdi Brach and your impression will change. The crowd in that bank can be compared to that of a football viewing center during a crucial match. |
Tallesty1:True |
presegsADESIDA:Its true. I read it on the bbc website yesterday. |
Always think before you comment on Nairaland. If you have nothing meaningful to say, then dont say anything. I believe that trading insults in any way is a sign of immaturity. The words you say offline or online will either have a positive or negative effect on the minds of your fellow men. Insulting words kills harmony and breeds discord. Thats one of the main reasons why I almost never comment on the Politics section. Since most of the people who comment in that section are either politicians or active participants in politics, I look around the country and realise why Nigeria is in such a mess. If you think your harsh words only brings others down, think again...words have a way of coming back to their owners silently and with more force and potency. The bottom line is that we should think well before posting and also learn to express our differing views and opinions without insults or harsh words. Thats my humble advice to everyone. |
Anytime a link takes me to Ireporters website I quickly press the back button...I hate that website with a passion. |
onatisi: If this video is real ,then it is true that shekau is truly dead. Boko haram has released 2 videos with 96 hrs just to counter the claim that shekau is dead. All these videos shows desperation ,the video is to try and lift up the spirit of its fighters,it is most likely many of boko haram soldiers are fed up and disillusioned . If shekau is indeed alive just one video is enough. But it is obvious the first video didn't have the impact bh intended it to have both on its soldiers and the nigerian army. With the beheading of the pilot it shows the desperation of boko haram to prove a point and this isn't what they usually do. The last time they showed such desperation was when gej said it in a nationwide broadcast that he doesn't know where the chibok girls are ,24hrs later boko haram quickly released a video showing the girls and by showing them ,they were clearly sending the message that they are willing to negotiate. SHEKAU IS DEADGuy, your reasoning is totally flawed. Meanwhile... they released just one single video, it is about 40 minutes long and the beheading is just a part of it. |
darlingtonNYIG: How do people reason at all. How can you shoot down a plane and the person survives and look so healthy!! Biko make una use una brain na chaii! This pure propagandaHave you ever heard the word "Parachute"? Think again, this time much more slowly. |
Krak: You obviously did not get me. I did not say it uses internet connectio, but I am very sure that about 400Mb of my plan disappeared when I sent share and sell and non of my money was removed. Infact my data was turned off when I made those transactions. Why are you ignoring me. I do not find it funny? |
JideSM: Hello Krak, Share and Sell does not make use of internet connection. It is unlikely that your Share and Sell activity used your data plan. You obviously did not get me. I did not say it uses internet connectio, but I am very sure that about 400Mb of my plan disappeared when I sent share and sell and non of my money was removed. Infact my data was turned off when I made those transactions. I hope that you should at least make a check on the line and see what could be wrong. Because I may seriously consider changing my Internet network if I do not get a favourable response from you. I have been using this same plan for about a year now and most times I subscribe twice a month. So I know and I am sure about what I am saying. Check my line and coroborate or disprove my claim. It happened on the 25th of September 2014, in the morning and especially in the evening. 08162445511. |
JideSM: Hello there.I am on the MTN 2,500 Night Plan and still had several hundred megabytes that could be used during the day. When I tried sending credit to other numbers via Share and Sell I discovered that MTN was deducting from my megabytes. I did not know this ontime untill all my free megabytes were wiped off. I need to tell you that I had credit on my phone during all these period and nothing happened to the credit. Please I need to know what is wrong as I dont think this is proper at all. My number is 08162445511. |

Send the money or the Check back to him. He does not want to help or this is a test. Do you mean that you did not have anything or business in mind before asking someone to help you? I believe you are not telling the whole truth. |
I have no view on it because it is a private issue and so well-beyond my view. |

Two years later I decided to go back to Nigeria. The project felt unresolved and I was ready to engage with the group again. I look back at the notebooks I had kept while with them. The words ‘dominance’, ‘codependence’ and ‘submission’ kept appearing. These pictures depict much more than an exotic group of travelling performers in West Africa. The motifs that linger are the fraught relationships we have with ourselves, with animals and with nature. The second trip was very different. By this stage there was a stronger personal relationship between myself and the group. We had remained in contact and they were keen to be photographed again. The images from this journey are less formal and more intimate. The first series of pictures had caused varying reactions from people – inquisitiveness, disbelief and repulsion. People were fascinated by them, just as I had been by that first cellphone photograph. A director of a large security company in the USA contacted me, asking how to get in touch with the ‘hyena group’. He saw marketing potential: surely these men must use some type of herb to protect themselves against hyenas, baboons, dogs and snakes? He thought that security guards, soldiers and his own pocket could benefit from this medicine. Many animal-rights groups also contacted me, wanting to intervene (however, the keepers have permits from the Nigerian government). When I asked Nigerians, “How do you feel about the way they treat animals”, the question confused people. Their responses always involved issues of economic survival. Seldom did anyone express strong concern for the well-being of the creatures. Europeans invariably only ask about the welfare of the animals but this question misses the point. Instead, perhaps, we could ask why these performers need to catch wild animals to make a living. Or why they are economically marginalised. Or why Nigeria, the world’s sixth largest exporter of oil, is in such a state of disarray. http://globalthots..com/2014/09/the-nomadic-hyena-handlers-of-nigeria.html?m=1

I started looking for situations where these contrasting elements became apparent. I decided to concentrate on portraits. I would go for a walk with one of the performers, often just in the city streets, and, if opportunity presented itself, take a photograph. We travelled around from city to city, often chartering public mini-buses. I agreed to travel with the animal wranglers to Kano in the northern part of the country. One of them set out to negotiate a fare with a taxi driver; everyone else, including myself and the hyenas, monkeys and rock pythons, hid in the bushes. When their companion signalled that he had agreed on a fare, the motley troupe of humans and animals leapt out from behind the bushes and jumped into the vehicle. The taxi driver was completely horrified. I sat upfront with a monkey and the driver. He drove like an absolute maniac. At one stage the monkey was terrified by his driving. It grabbed hold of my leg and stared into my eyes. I could see its fear.

Abiola met me at the airport and together we took a bus to Benin City where the ‘hyena men’ had agreed to meet us. However, when we got there they had already departed for Abuja. In Abuja we found them living on the periphery of the city in a shantytown – a group of men, a little girl, three hyenas, four monkeys and a few rock pythons. It turned out that they were a group of itinerant minstrels, performers who used the animals to entertain crowds and sell traditional medicines. The animal handlers were all related to each other and were practising a tradition passed down from generation to generation. I spent eight days travelling with them. The spectacle caused by this group walking down busy market streets was overwhelming. I tried photographing this but failed, perhaps because I wasn’t interested in their performances. I realised that what I found fascinating was the hybridisation of the urban and the wild, and the paradoxical relationship that the handlers have with their animals – sometimes doting and affectionate, sometimes brutal and cruel.
