Although i am not an ipob supporter but something happened concerning the sit-at-home in Port harcourt.

Radio reports in PH on the Ipob sit-at-home action saw some Ikwere boys who are revenue collectors in Igbo markets across ph wailing over the loss of revenue that befell them on May 30.

Some of them who were interviewed by radio stations were angry with Igbo traders for not opening their shops on that day thereby making them not to make money as they use to make on daily basis.This quite foolish.

Each of them interviewed said they didnt even make up to 10% of what they usually generate on daily basis from each of those markets that day.

The shameful thing there was that some of them were shamelessly calling on governor Wike to sanction the traders. What a pity on Ikwere boys. How can you be angry with somebody because he said he wants to sit at home? Are they government workers? Why dont you people go into business like them. I thought some of you claim they are not important to you so why are you wailing now?

And this brings me back to warn those igbos here who wants to attach Ikwere to Igbos by force to desist from that senseless act. Ikwere people are not our brothers. You can see that laziness runs in their blood. Igbos are not lazy folks. My people pls be wise. If people who feels they own oil in their state can wail for loss of revenue just because you didnt open your shop just for one day, doesnt that tell you that having oil in your state doesnt make one important? The problem is with the Nigerian state.

Those ones that contested the APC primary with him has no clout of voters to help him win the election against the incumbent. They are already part of APC and so are not going to bring in new voters. But Adeleye was the former PDP spokesperson at national level. He has the potential to influence a lot of grassroot PDP voters in Ekiti and sway them to vote Fayemi in the election. That's a huge bargaining chip that none of those APC primaries contestants have.


It's a risky gamble though. But Adeleye is probably thinking that waiting for 4 years in APC is a lot LESS riskier than waiting for 8 years in PDP. The only problem is that, by this move, he may lose all possibilities of becoming a governor if Fayemi loses the election or fails to make good his alleged promise if he wins.

Even one day is enough. But one thing people should know is that three or four years is not enough in total consideration of your efforts to assess what you can do in any polity. But even if you spend one day, it is enough depending on which areas you are looking at. If you are looking at the area of tenure, one day tenure means you are there for one day. In one day, the person may just had breakfast or dinner or held a few meetings with security people .

There is impression that the South East and South South are predominantly PDP states and that no matter what Buhari does, he cannot win in these states. What is your perspective on that?

Let us watch! The taste of the pudding will be in the eating when the results come out. Buhari in the last three years has done a lot for these two regions despite the fact that they didn’t vote for him in 2015. He has done the East-West road. In the South East now, I saw the Minister of State for Agriculture commissioning these erosion sites in Aba, Abia state. He also said that about 26 erosion sites are being addressed, whether in the whole of Nigeria or the area, I don’t know but I know about when about 11 erosion sites were done. The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation is responsible for these erosion sites all over Nigeria. The Second Niger Bridge is also being attended to and has been expanded. Also, Onitsha- Enugu road is there, the rail lines projects are also there. If all these challenges are there and for 16 years, PDP and Buhari is attending to them now, you think the Igbos are so ungrateful not to recognise that during elections? Do you think the Igbos are so greedy that they will join the ruling party for nothing? Nobody is giving them any money but they are grateful because of the attention being given to the infrastructures in the East. The South East has the highest infrastructural deficit in the country and they are being attended to by the Buhari administration. Do you think the people won’t show gratitude? So, a lot has been done. It is not all negative as some people are portraying the situation. I watched a television programme this morning where people are referring to negative things and are not even kind enough to refer to any positive thing. They were saying the president has done nothing in the last three years. There is nobody who can say Buhari has done nothing. In the North East, we have been fighting a war. The security agencies have been empowered, the economy has been diversified and all loopholes have been plugged.

At the beginning of this administration, you said Nigerians should stone APC leaders if the government fails to perform. It is three years now, do you think you have been vindicated?

Yes, we are not stoned because we are doing well. If we are not doing well, won’t Nigerians be stoning us? But with the opposition, stoning will always take place. Whether you do well or not, they will always criticise. So, Nigerians who will stone us are PDP members who will not see anything good in APC. Even if we do well, they will start throwing stones. This administration has performed better than any other administration since 1999 in three years.


Why do you think Obasanjo is too critical of those who succeeded him in office unlike what obtains in the United States where you hardly see former presidents criticising the incumbents despite political differences?

Everybody have their strength. Obasanjo’s strength and abilities lie in activity. When he was in power, he worked very hard, positively or negatively, that is the outcome of analysis. But the fact is that he cannot sit down without being noticed. The area he dissipates his energy is the area of manifesting spiritual immaturity. For instance, when you refuse to praise people for doing good. I may be wrong but I am not aware of any outing of Obasanjo where he praised anybody to his own detriment. He does not know how to praise. It seems therefore that he celebrates failure. I think it is a function of spiritual maturity. Anybody who is spiritually mature will concede that every human being has a role to play and then the positive area of that role will be the point you focus on in his favour. I have never seen globally where Obasanjo celebrates the success of any other person apart from himself. I may be wrong but the fact is that if you have such a person, then that person has a spiritual problem.

As we remember the Biafran heroes this 30th of May, 2018, it is important to emphasize that the path to Igbo Renaissance is not in any frivolous “sit-at-home” orthodoxy. The Renaissance of Biafra in Nigeria should simply not be ”hoped for,” as those who are “sitting-at-home” want us to believe. It should be sought through the reassertion of Igbo political and social consciousness in the midst of ever-growing integration in Nigeria. So, IPOB and the promoters of their ideas are once again demonstrating their incapacity to grasp the difference between symbolic and institutional power by simply ‘siting-at-home’.

Let’s face the fact: The political weight and muscles that IPOB carries today bore little resemblance to what it had once been. The reason is simple: Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB, and their backers lack political competence. They do not know who they can and cannot control; they failed to access the timing of taking actions like “ordering” a boycott of the Anambra governorship election; they failed to identify key allies, but, rather, aligned with wrong political actors like FFK and Fayose who were detrimental to pushing their agenda forward.

Rather than overwhelming its opponents, therefore, IPOB ran aground be its own arrogance, naivety, and miscalculations. Like a fowl that dug out the blade that killed it, IPOB, by their recourse to constituting themselves to public nuisance invited the Nigerian military that ended up quenching the thirst for power in their dry throat. The absence of a plan B by IPOB exposed the un-pragmatic routine of a leadership most of whom are still stupidly urging us to ‘sit-at-home’ and remained resolute on “Biafra or death” nonsense.

Talking about death, if the political leaders in Igbo land and the federal government taught any lesson to the IPOB, it is apparent that nothing was learned. IPOB accumulated a significant political capital amongst Ndigbo, which arguably could have been spent on a durable goal of establishing long-lasting political institutions in the Southeast. But IPOB believed, wrongly, that the balance of power between them and constituted authorities is static. As a result, when the political wind shifted, Nnamdi Kanu was blown away with the battered leadership of IPBO, leaving the followers scattered and lost.

IPOB has now dissolved into a sedimentary group of activists’ content with issuing empty threats and impotent “sit-at-home” directives. The present situation calls for a rethinking of the balance between pomposity and durable goal. ‘Sit-at-home’ is not a durable goal. IPOB’s sit-at-home directive is not reinforced by any analytic substance; there is no institutional leverage; no real power; no reinvigoration and therefore no real path to Igbo Renaissance.

This is when one would have expected the remnants of IPOB leadership to immediately hit the restart button, change strategy and begin a pragmatic politics. The latest “sit-at-home” “order” amounted to nothing more than running in a vicious circle. The dangerous thing about the ‘success’ of these ‘sit-at-home’ fantasy world is not that it is inconsequential; it’s that it seduces Ndigbo that are dissatisfied with the political process in Nigeria to believe that they are making an impact.

The path to Igbo Renaissance is Love, Not Hate. If we allow fear to take over our minds and thought, the result will be breeding hate and more fear. The bad news is not that IPOB failed, but that many Ndigbo are still refusing to learn, even the hard way, the importance of politics by still championing the headless “sit-at-home” mantra. A movement based on bigotry and intent on stirring ethnic-religions discord could offer no answers to the challenges facing Ndigbo that are resourceful and outgoing.

I suggest that before IPOB makes a real comeback aimed at Igbo Renaissance, as I hope they will, they should bear in mind that what Ndigbo need now is hope, not fear. They should thus renegotiate the tension between reckless, self-expression and strategic action. IPOB should be ready to adopt a dual orientation towards both symbolic and institutional powers. They have to show a pragmatic understanding of politics.

Engaging in “politics” is sometimes dismissed as a soft skill, but gaining support is an art, involving the ability to justify an agenda, establish credibility, appreciate what the other party is looking for, and remaining politically astute. Unfortunately, IPOB failed woefully by refusing to engage in “politics”. They got it wrong by focusing on chaotic energy in an attempt to be wielding the symbolic power of the anger in the street. That strategy failed. IPOB and their promoters should, therefore, start afresh by first hitting the restart button.

After hitting the restart button, they should stop promoting a narrow goal of “sit at home” and praying to God as an honor to Biafran heroes. It is a goal that suffers from blurriness, incompleteness, and arbitrariness and leads to depression when such hopes are dashed. That’s not political competence. Political competence is the balance between the single-minded pursuit of the lone ranger and the warm reach of the consensus builder. “Sit-at-home” without the support of any political structure with real power in Igbo land is frivolous.

Finally, IPOB’s fantasies regularly collide with reality, and so far reality has a perfect winning percentage. Nnamdi Kanu constructed a fantasy version of himself and then attempted to live it. He forgot that life does not always imitate art. The continuous recourse to a frivolous “sit-at-home” protest still proves that IPOB cannot articulate a new and pragmatic agenda for Igbo Renaissance. ‘Sit-at-home’ is like punching the head of a palm nut, hurting yourself, only to come back and punch the same palm nuts, aggravating the wound.

A true honor for Biafran Soldiers who fought gallantly during the civil war is a paradigm shift to a Renaissance with political goals that will refresh and perpetuate Igbos through education, proactive political engagement in such a manner that will ensure that Igbos grows and thrives in an open Nigerian society. The Biafran heroes are making an impassioned plea for all who care about the future of Igbos to not just ‘sit-at-home’, but to promote Igbo Renaissance by standing up, showing political competence and building bridges in order to make Igbos better off in Nigeria.

An investigation ordered by the government found a "sustained, co-ordinated agenda to impose segregationist attitudes and practices of a hardline, politicised strain of Sunni Islam" in several Birmingham schools. The investigation found there to be "no evidence to suggest that there is a problem with governance generally" nor any "evidence of terrorism, radicalisation or violent extremism in the schools of concern in Birmingham," but said there was "evidence that there are a number of people, associated with each other and in positions of influence in schools and governing bodies, who espouse, sympathise with or fail to challenge extremist views."[1] It found that a number of governors and senior teachers had been promoting a form of Islamism or Salafism. The report identified the Muslim Council of Britain and the Association of Muslim Schools as organisations "[stemming] from an international movement to increase the role of Islam in education".[1][2]

Peter Clarke, former counterterrorism chief, conducted the investigation which gathered and examined 2,000 documents and generated 2,000 pages of interview transcripts from 50 witnesses, including former headteachers, teachers, council staff and school governors. He said some of the witnesses had been very nervous and anxious. He found "very clear evidence" that young people were encouraged to "accept unquestionably a particular hardline strand of Sunni Islam that raises concerns about their vulnerability to radicalisation in the future." It described the ideology being promoted as: "an intolerant and politicised form of extreme social conservatism that claims to represent and ultimately seeks to control all Muslims. In its separatist assertions and attempts to subvert normal processes it amounts to what is often described as Islamism."[2]


Detailed findings

The report outlined instances of Islamism or Salafism found in the schools. They included:[1][2]

- Anti-Western rhetoric, particularly anti-US and anti-Israel;
- Segregationism – dividing the world into us and them, with them to include all non-Muslims and other Muslims who disagree ; (this shows the futility and naivety of the ..."but Muslims are killed too" narrative - *Note this particular annotation was added by me and not part of the original report).
- Perception of a worldwide conspiracy against Muslims;
- Attempts to impose its views and practices upon others;
- Intolerance of difference, whether the secular, other religions or other Muslims.

Education and curriculum changes

The report found there had been changes made to the curriculum and education plans, including increasing the faith component. The choice of modern language teaching had been restricted to the study of Arabic or Urdu at several schools. At Park View, Golden Hillock, Nansen and Oldknow academy, teachers were instructed not to use images in any subject which displayed even slight intimacy between sexes. The investigation found that "terms such as condom, the pill and so forth have been banned" and that governors had insisted on an Islamic approach to subjects, such as Personal, Social and Health Education, science, religious education, and sex and relationships education.[2] Governors also restricted teaching topics which were part of the Department for Education's Prevent strategy, such as forced marriage and female genital mutilation.[2] Creationism was taught as fact in school assemblies and science lessons at both Park View and Golden Hillock. Children were banned from playing musical instruments and drama lessons were dropped from the schedule. The art curriculum was altered to "remove full faces or immodest images, such as paintings by Gustav Klimt."[2]

Intolerance and racism

The report found evidence of intolerance at several schools toward gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual people, and said that governors and staff exhibited openly homophobic behaviour. Staff wishing to discuss LGBT matters were lambasted by governors.[2]

What you posted up there is in no way similar to what's obtainable in Nigeria. These folks experience power cuts, meaning that they have regular power supply but not yet up to 24/7/365 without unscheduled interruption. That's way out of the league of Nigeria where both kids and adults live constantly in darkness and have to scream in joy whenever they sight light.
