buJu234: Let's call a spade a spade, let's stop all these spiritual gimmicks and big big grammar, let's face the fact.
Statistics have it that 1 out of every 5 black people you see in the western world is a Nigerian, these are the people that are making wave in the black community in the western world. And they are all 99.9% from and given birth to in southern Nigeria (SW,SE, SS).
If these guys can do well in other people's countries why can they do well here? Reason being the quota system (that's destroys creativity ) will never allow them. and this system is controlled by the Northern Nigeria leaders.
whether you like it or not Nigeria is controlled by northern Nigeria, which means if northern Nigeria is not ok, the nation as a whole will not. Expect for what we are seeing today where southern Nigeria is far developed that northern Nigeria. Why because southern Nigeria encourages everyone to think for himself, attend school, very little quota systems.
Let the Northern Nigeria leaders change their leadership style from selective quota system to an inclusive democratic Islamic system like United Arab Emirates, Qatar and what the newly Saudi Arabia crown prince is doing to Saudi Arabia now.
Not the leadership system of the Pakistani, Yemeni , old Saudi Arabia Islamic government, that favour's only a few.
What happened to the Alimajeri schools that Past President Jonathan built? Inside those Alimajeri boys lies the future billionaires, captain of industry, that can change Northern Nigeria.
You call some states educational disadvantage, giving them low Jamb marks to enter into university, where by killing their brain power. That's why its hard for them to succeed in private enterprise ( every country grows on private enterprise not government funded enterprise ) that involves heavy competition, they only succed on monopoly and government favours. These can't help them become a global brand. Because all global brands must face tough competitions, the world is a global village.
Every developed country has developed based on the development of the people, human resources not natural resources.
That's why with all the crude oil in Saudi Arabia it can't be compared with Israel that has zero oil deposits.
Until the northern Nigeria leadership change from quota system to full human development for all northern people, where everyone is equal, has 100% right to school, where birth control is put in place, where Islamic teaching that said u can only marry more than one wife IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT!!. Where making sure that the educational budget is higher than going to Mecca budgets etc.
Until these happen, the development of Nigeria as a whole will not be there.
If you check, the statistics, All the poverty, sicknesses indices are very high in northern Nigeria compare to the south.
Today the GDP that made Nigeria the biggest economy in Africa, over 90% of the Non Oil sectors are controlled by southern Nigeria. Is it Nollywood, Music, creative arts, banking, services etc.
These 're what you get when everyone is allowed to think for himself and given opportunity to succeed in respective of your religious view.
Get this, if you allow a person to develop his brain during his youthful days, when difficult times come in his adulthood, he will devise a positive solution but when you give a person too much waivers during his youthful days, where by making his brain power ineffective, when he faces problem in his adulthood, he will devise negative solutions like depression, suicide bombing etc.
Since 1967, northern Nigeria has been controlling the leadership of Nigeria (directly / indirectly ), yet the region is the poorest of all the regions. Why?? leadership systems. Well said... unarguable the greatness of any nation does not depend on its material resources, but on its mental resources; it does not depend on its manpower development, but on its mindpower development! |

deomelo: It has nothing to do with politics, it's all about supply, demand, market and cost effectiveness. Te market and the folks buying, selling and making money in that market will dictate where, how to ship, collect and sell their goods.
Politics can not stand in the way of these factors and it's not by accident that the folks in the import and shipping business are not out there up in arms, crying and pleading with the government to alter the status quo.
Private interests in other parts of Nigeria and even Edo state Gov. are going ahead with their own seaports, but you can build all the ports you desire, you can not force people to use your ports or do what's not in their own best business interest.
Besides, the major markets are not in that part of the country so of what economic sense is shipping the same level of goods and services to that part of the country when in fact the major consumers are elsewhere.? I have been privileged to lead a Critical Project development team which brought about our meeting with past and present leaders of Nigeria. Please don't be deceived by what you read on papers, as well as the theoritical analysis by far-to-see media analyst... The poor state of our Economic Infrastructure is a function of Political sentiments. I have first hand encounters with the "high and mighty" in Nigeria. In one of our meetings, after the presentation of an Economic Blueprint designed to transform Nigeria into a global economic/financial hub (with sophisticated economical infrastructures), we were clearly told: "IF AMERICA GETS TO KNOW THE CONTENT OF OUR PLAN, THEY WILL NUKE US RIGHT WHERE WE ARE!" The above statement was made, by a respected leader in Nigeria, in response to the ECONOMIC BLUEPRINT WE PRESENTED, which was intended to reposition the economic structure of Nigeria so as to render global competition irrelevant! The major challenge in Nigeria remains this: WE HAVE SHORT SUPPLY OF POLITICAL LEADERS WITH ECONOMIC SENSE! As long as this persists, Nigeria will never rise to fulfill its magnificient purpose! |

The prospects for other functional Seaports in the Southern part of Nigeria was killed due to political sentiments. It's quite unfortunate, Nigeria is yet to come to realization of the truth that no nation can attain sustainable development without a defined economic plan devioded of sentiments! Nigeria can only make meaningful progress when we learn to separate POLITICS FROM ECONOMIC PLANS (DEVELOPMENTAL BLUEPRINTS)! |

dbynonetwork: I will never forget the most horrific day of my life, it happened two months ago... I had severe tooth pain so I decided to see a dentist because I couldn't endure the pain. After the dentist (a young man) examined my tooth( upper pre-molar) without any medical equipment, he suggested I should choose between tooth refilling or extraction. I settled for tooth extraction. Immediately he started the extraction process. He injected the first anaesthetia to numb my gum, my gum felt normal (note: each anaesthetic dosage is injected twice or more on both sides of the gum close to the aching tooth). Then came the second dosage, my gum felt the same not numb yet... He tried pulling my tooth and I screamed so hard, he stopped. He injected the third dosage, repeated the same process of pulling my tooth that still did not work.. At this point he used a sharp hook like object to prick my jaw hardly to know if I felt pain.. Since the third dose did not work he injected the fourth dose then tried pulling my tooth .He did the same until the fifth dose.. At this point I shouted, though my voice was no more audible because my jaws and chin were swollen blood over.. I told him that he is trying to use force to detach my tooth from my skull. The dentist became confused, not knowing what to do he had to call a senior colleague.. I was given the 6th, 7th and 8th dosage with tooth pulling after each dosage... Finally I was told to come back after two days. I discontinued the tooth extraction, and yet no refund of the money I paid..
There are many quack medical practitioners everywhere we just need to be careful... Omg! That was suicidal! I once had similar instance of a failed anaesthetia. Fortunatly, when the 2nd dose was administered, my Jaw became numb and the dentist was able to extract my lower molar in peace. Hope you were able to get a solution elsewhere? I perceive strongly, the anaesthia must have substandard, hence its ineffectiveness. |

Gggg102: .which democracy in Nigeria? where there are no clear cut difference in ideologies between political parties.
I learnt what democracy looked like when I watched CNN. republicans vs democrats. different ideologies like black and white. republicans are majorly conservatives while democrats are majorly liberals. each party stand for something. cross carpeting can't happen anyhow here since it would require an extreme change in ideology.
unlike Nigeria. can anyone point out an ideological difference between apc and pdp. they don't stand for anything that differentiate them from the other. that's why people cross carpet anyhow. it does not require any change of ideals. just go where the money is surer. Sadly, the Nigerian political landscape is occupied by politician with premitive brains. Hence, they have no clearly define ideological differences, thus giving rise to senseless decamping from one Party to another. Nigeria is in dear need of Politicians that are progressively educated with economic sense, and properly evolved Physiologically, Psychologically and Philosophically! By a way of input, Chinese Bullet Train (aka High Speed Train or HST) speed has been upgraded to as much as 500km/h (now favourably competing with Aircrafts) thanks to technological breakthroughs.
It is sad to see Nigeria government pride in commissioning old generation Railway Transport System. When the rest of the world has gone pass such!
Currently, there's not a single High Speed Train guage facility in Nigeria. My team and I, in the last administration, developed a world-class Railway Corridor Project, consisting of strictly High Speed Trains and Major/Minor Terminals. The Minor Terminal to be located in the Capital of each States, while the Major Terminal to be located in each Geo-political Zones. The plan was designed to tranfer HST Technology and make Nigeria a manufacturing hub from which the HST infrastructure would be extended to every other African Countries in the near future.
Sadly, no sooner than PMB was declare winner of the 2015 Presidential Election, the first Project Proposal Tinubu Presented to PMB was a sub-standard Old Generation Railway Project!

HigherEd: We had a 15% First class turnout! But I believe CU would have done better If they had implemented the third semester system which was initially proposed by the former VC. This would have ensured that people with failed courses could retake the courses during holidays(summer) rather than piling failed courses for people during new sessions.
CU should understand that students who failed during normal semesters are usually too demoralized to learn anything in carryover classes. Plus this carryover classes, especially the likes of CHM212(physical chemistry) are usually overbloated with carryover students that it makes learning uncomfortable for everyone.
Lastly on piling carryovers. The consequences of pilling carryovers in a public uni might be minute and limited but in a private school it is devastating, especially to middle class families who have to dole out an extra 1 million naira.
And for anyone who thinks that CU is producing too much First class degrees please chew on this. There is no telling what people can do if giving the right environment to succeed. And yes some of the numerous people who make First Class degrees in UK universities may find it difficult to replicate in OAU. But that doesn't make OAU better than Lancaster or University Of Edinburgh, but a reflection of a choking system in the Nigerian University System which prioritises difficulty and stress over learning.
Codetemplar Sadly, African Universities, Nigerian in particular, take pleasure in frustrating their Students. Making it seem as though thriving for excellence is a crime! I do hope in near future, this PHD (Pull Him/Her Down) SYNDROME will come to an end for good! |
