You are right. Second choice is a privilege and giving Mr A ahead of Mr B is just pushing it too far.

400 people chose EE and only 200 met her cut-off. Their second choice is Maths and they all met maths cut-off which is 60. As a matter of fact,they all scored above 65..

Lets assume maths has only 200 slots and no student who chose maths as 1st choice scored up to 65 despite meeting Maths cut-off of 60. According to Swisscarter's admission policy,all the people who chose maths as first choice will not be Offered Mathematics..

I have always thought on this Line. Why don't Uniben give Aspirants their second choice courses if they couldn't meet the criteria of either Cut-off or Catchment placement to obtian their first choice course or courses ? they just fling them to any course! not too healthy.

I believe A second choice course will be more appreciated by an aspirant if the first choice is not given.

Mr A chose electrical engineering and scored 62 but didn't meet the cut-off for electrical. His second choice is mathematics. And the cut-off for Mathematics is 61..

Mr B chose mathematics as first choice..Fortunately Mr B scored 61.

Now,if you were Uniben. Who will you admit to study mathematics between Mr A and B? I wouldn't mind if you give a reason too.

Of course,people who aint from catchment area will be admitted but no all.

What happened to you was that your score got beaten by that of another candidate's when Uniben was filling the allocated space for merit.

Your friends on the other hand got admitted because their score met the requirement for catchment area I guess.

Sorry to hear what happened to ya last year. Hopefully,you ll have every reason to smile when the list comes out this year.

I don't think so. I believe there's always this constant space allocated to catchment no matter the performance.

Supposing the 180 people that scored above 74 happen to come from non-catchment areas,you think uniben will admit them all? Hell no!

The aim of catchment in the first place was/is to make sure the region(where the school is) does not lag behind, educationally...

I cannot authoritatively say this number is the cut-off for engineering but from my little observation,anything above 55 or even 55 on the dot should get you your desired course. The chance is lets say 70% but if you happen to be from Uniben's catchment area you have a 90% chance.. Like I said, I might be wrong but this was the pattern I observed from last year.
