mr swagger: @Kunsoft, I'm not sure of that. Company's Bank statement is acceptable. I have seen some peeps in previous threads on nairaland getting their visa wth company's Bank statement.

You just have to prove your case well, and get a letter of sponsorship from the company sponsoring you, then u r good to Go!!!!!!
@swagger read his question very well. 1-20 state Family Fund. he has company statement.
i think say problem with the last interview posted. The guy went with company statement while the 1-20 state family fund.
i did not say you can not use company as ur sponsor But if your i-20 state family fund as sponsor is better to get a statement in family name not company.
Thanks

Datty85: My I-20 says family funds and I have a statement from a company which happens to be a family company and I own 15% of it. Will it be accepted at the embassy?
NO. so far the statement is in the company name is not accepted. you can use ur dad current or savings account if there is a lot of activities on it. then transfer the money from company to it bit by bit before your interview date.

abi? House

topzy2000: Thanks. I felt that. So having a statement of 6 Million alongside should be okay I guess.
Yes it should

Nodding of head means 'fool continue ur super story when they've concluded ur case since' lol.

topzy2000: Bros n nairaland peeps. Na the full interview be this o

Vo:Pass me your docs
Me: Morning. I passed them

Vo:So where are you going
Me:Chicago

Vo: To do what
Me: To pursue a Masters Prog in Information Technology and Mgmt
Its already on the I-20 form. Abi she no dey see

Vo: Which School ?
Me: IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology)

Vo: Why do you want to study this course
Me: The program has research in wireless technologies like Wimax, CDMA, 3G, 4G technologies some of which are not in nigeria or are presently under development. I intend to expand my knowledge on this and come back to work in Nigeria as consultant/expertriate blah blah blah. cant remember all i said

Vo just keeps nodding like she wants to head a soccer ball and types on the computer.

Vo: Who is sponsoring you
Me: My Dad

Vo: What does he do
Me: He's retired but he works as an Engineering consultant and is also in real estate.

She just keeps typing on the computer

Vo: Can I see your financial statements
Me: I passed them.

I had a Fixed Deposit of 7 Million and a Bank Statement of 1 Million. I had a covering letetr on top, then the Fixed deposit then the bank statement. She just flipped everything to the bank statement, ignoring the covering letter and the fixed deposit. I was just wondering why cos the fixed deposit is what has most of the money. She looks at the 1 Million bank statement then looks at something written on her table, maybe dollar conversion rates or minimum amount for the school. She then passed the docs back to me. I was telling her from over the counter that a Fixed Deposit was included but she just says ok.

The I-20 form says minimum for 1 yr is 36k dollars which is 5.8 Mill naira which the FD clearly covers.

Vo: When did you graduate
Me: 4 years ago

Vo: Where do you work and what do you do
Me: I am a Network Engineer with Bleep Company. My job is to improve customer experience on the mobile network which include voice and data services. I sha yarned alot

She just dey type like say she dey work for business centre. Then she hands me the 214(b) paper.

She didnt ask about my GRE.

This chic no fit old pass me.

Now the plan is to apply again later in June. I am thinking this time of carrying a personal account worth the 1 year fee of 5.8Mil and the Fixed deposit of 7Mil.
Maybe I should put the Fixed deposit on top so they can see it boldly before they look at any statement or what do you think?

Getting affidavit for sponsorship, is it necessary ? I strongly feel the bank statement was the problem. Is there any other thing I might need

Also getting dates what is the best way? I tried refreshing the calendar page for visa appointment but after a couple of times it tells me I have reached the limit and till the next day.I tried loggin out and loggin in, its also the same thing.

What are the tricks for getting this date thing? I don't believe in paying a huge amount of money just to get date.

Omo I type gan for here. Any ideas and suggestions please. Thanks.
ȋ̝̊̅ think the VO is not intrested in your Fixed deposit. According to her question she asked for statement. ȋ̝̊̅ will advice you present statement with reasonable amount. They(VO) don't believe in Fixed deposit, they (VO)believes in now(present) what you have in cash.
Thanks.

I shall be very very grateful if you guys can help me out.

imperiouxx: I've seen many that applied to just one school and got the visa their very first time, though this doesn't signify a zealous student.
But I dont think is advisable to tell the vo is one school. You can mention 3 or 4 schools just to show the signs of seriousness. You can even say you got 2 admit and say the reason why you prefer this to that. Abi house?

Yea, I finally settled for Emirates. Paid N136,000 ($856). I also chose window seats for the first to Dubai (Boeing 777-300ER) and second flight to JFK (Airbus A380 800). I didn't see a seat selection option for the last flight to Baltimore.
@biggy when is your interview? Still waiting to read your interview section.

[quote author=mr swagger]@Kunsoft, TOEFL is for both Undergraduate and Graduate students. Anyone can take it..
TOEFL is used to check your proficiency in English Language. So it is required for both undergraduate and masters students.

And also regarding your Second question;
GRE is for students who are majoring in Science Subjects.

While the GMAT is for students majoring in Business. Like Business School (MBA)

In other words, if he is a Science Student, he should do both GRE and TOEFL.

And if he his going for a Business course he should do both GMAT and TOEFL.

Hope you understand.
[/qoute]

Thank you so much now I understand.
But on the other hand one can present one in both side abi (undergraduate and graduate)?

Is 50/50 chance, we have people that scale through without test. Anthonymighty is a testimony to that courtesy prof yvete mama. They guy can read his post and see how he answered the questions.

mr swagger: Oh Sorry Bigfrancis, I was refering to @obsy2020. I didn't read the username clearly.

@Kunsoft sorry I wasn't refering to you in my last post, I was refering to @Obsy2020 to take TOEFL.

@BigFrancis, There is truth in what you said. Kudos to you bro. Well said.. Noted.
No prob guys. Please I want to clearify this:

Is TOEFL FOR UNDERGRADUATE ALONE OR BOTH UNDERGRADUATE AND MASTERS?
To my own understanding toefl is strictly for undergraduate while gmat and gre is for masters. They guy is going for masters so I will advice gre and gmat.
Thanks
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by Kunsoft(m): 12:30pm On May 23, 2013
To be on a safe side you need atleast toefl for undergraduate and gre or gmat for masters. Which school is that and which degree.

bigfrancis21: I think these might be helpful:
1) Stand erect during the interview. Don't slouch or bend to one side.
2) Speak confidently, but no over confidently like the visa is your right.
3) Don't rest on the counter! Don't place bags/hand bags whatsoever on the counter during the interview.
4) Give short but precise, straight-to-the-point answers. No beating about the bush.
5) Smile gently when necessary.
6) Use body expressions to your advantage but don't overdo it.

Anybody who has more can add to the list.
What kill most of the time in an interview is the ability of you not hearing the questions clearly. talking from experience you need to listen attentively infact most people fail the interview not because they dont know what to say but they did not hear the interviewer clearly and start answering out of Poin (OP). i was privileged to spend hours inside i saw alot of people been denial because:
1. Either they are scare of the oyinbo or they want to speak like one.
2. The confidence is not there, so anything the VO say they agree with it. (even if they guy says: they are stupid they reply YES sir) grin.
3. Favour factor. The Lord should order our step to the right guy.

i believe there more for others to say. and evaluate what i have said.
Thanks.

wabi_wabi_91: Hello everyone.

I've read what has been posted on this thread from page 1 in preparation for my own visa interview. I would like to thank all those who have contributed to this thread- its awfully nice of you to help others like this.

I've been admitted to Purdue University to study Industrial Engineering (Bachelors) this fall and I have filled my DS-160 form and scheduled a visa interview. I live in Lagos, but unfortunately there were no dates available- I was astonished by this fact. I went ahead to book an appointment in Abuja for the 13th of June, but going all the way will be rather expensive. I plan on canceling the Abuja appointment and rescheduling an appointment in Lagos if dates become available.

A few pages back someone suggested that a sort of Lagos Visa Appointment Date Notification Service be started on the thread. I'd like to voice my support for this idea. If anyone notices that dates become available in Lagos, please email me on aabiola"at"purdue"dot"edu.

Thanks a bunch. Good luck to all.
Hello wabi please i dont mind picking your abuja date if is possible.

bigfrancis21: I really do think that your age and undergraduate program hindered your visa chances. Like others have said, apply to a masters program, even with your HND. Many US universities don't seem to differentiate between our B.SC and HND. They tend to view both the same way. Success.
Thanks, i will appreciate if you have any list of those schools. though i'm also doing the research now.

kofsy: @Kunsoft sorry for the delay. I think the problem is with the Bachelor's degree and your age. May be you should try do GRE or GMAT, then apply for Masters with your Hnd. Even if you don't have a good grade in your Hnd, just make sure you kill the GRE or GMAT, and you will be surprised those schools will offer you admission. Then you can now go for the visa.
I know you might be thinking it's too late... My dear, it's not... BTW, u have an Hnd, why would you want to spend another four years on Bsc which is an equivalent of Hnd? And you don't even have age on your side.
Just summon the courage to re-strategize. Start all over again. You can prepare for the GRE within one month(rigorous preparation) and you are good to go. Don't be in a haste. You can start over now, and in d next three months, you will get your visa, God willing.
Cheer up dear, it's going to be well!
Thanks alot did you can you send GMAT or GRE to me, before i ask the every ready to help house to do so?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by Kunsoft(m): 6:08pm On May 16, 2013
imperiouxx: Why not go for a MS instead of this BS. Your HND should be able to secure you a MS admission.
i have searched for schools that can take HND but did not get any. i don't mind if you can get me some.
thanks

ivory23456: I got there at 5.30am for my 7.30am interview, lol.
Black American lady Interviewed me at about 8:30am. I tried to greet and smile but was too tired, didn't bother.
VO: pass me your docs
VO: why did you choose pittsburg state uni?
ME: its accredited by the AACSB and.....
VO: (cut me short) that's same with all business schools.
ME: (I just continued talking sha, cause I didn't want all I had planned to say to leave my head). Accreditation by that board is the highest standard of achievement for business schools, and as a graduate student I'd be open to research opportunities. Asides that the degree plan of psu consists of other fundamental components of ther programs like finance, HOUR, Internal auditing and these jobs are usually given to foreign professionals to handle for us in Nigeria(stole this line from mamacita) cheesy
VO: where did you do your undergrad study
Me: Uniabuja
VO: what have you been doing since then?
ME: did my nysc, got a certificate in mgt from NIM and joined the family business as a business analyst
VO: what's the business about?
ME: we supply, repair and do maintenance of computer systems for large companies.
VO: did you apply to any other school
Me: Yes, Portland State Uni and...(she cut me short again)
VO: so why did you pick Pitts state over Portland
ME: said same answer as b4 about degree plan of Pittstate
VO: so what do you plan to do with this degree
ME: I intend to grow the family business and get a top management position in a Nigerian bla bla
VO: who is sponsoring you?
Me: my sister
VO: How many children in your family?
ME: 5
VO: what position are you?
ME: Last child( I'm not last, I'm 4th. Just said to make my case sweeter)
VO: did you do any tests?
ME: Yes, GMat and Toefl
VO: oh, that's great.
ME: (was about to bring out test score paper) she said don't bother.
VO: so I'm approving your visa....bla bla bla
ME: I said thank you like 4 times, lol
VO: she just kept smiling
I sha hurriedly left b4 she'd change her mind...
That's it o, not a single documents was asked from me.
The fasting and prayers paid off. Follow God o.lol
I tap into your anointing and claim my own too IJN Amen!
