EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by kylexy61(m): 11:53am On Feb 04, 2018
Hello guys. I want to share my GRE experience. I only found this thread like 2 weeks ago. I took mine in August 2017, 8:30am sharp.

The analytical went well. As soon as I saw the issue task question, I thanked my stars that I had used the 'GRE AWA' android app. The topic was something about things getting more complex and incomprehensible as humans gain more knowledge.
I had already seen a similar topic before and although I had not actually practiced that topic, being familiar with it helped calm down my nerves. I didn't have too much problems with the argumentative either.

The other sections were in the order QVQVQ. The first 2 quant sets were quite easy so I'm guessing one of them is the experimental section. The last section? Oh boy!! My scores in the powerprep quant sections prior to the test had given me some confidence. By I was clearly not well prepared enough for what I faced in the actual test. The questions were slightly more difficult and time consuming, and as someone who was targeting a perfect quant score, I found this quite frustrating. The level of difficulty for the verbal section was roughly similar to that of the powerprep. There weren't as many esoteric words as there are in the 5lb Manhattan prep questions

At the end of the test, I got 163Q, 156V and a week later, an analytical score of 4.5. I was slightly dissapointed with my quant score because 2 days before my actual test, I took the 2nd powerprep test and scored 168Q, 158V.

But it's still good. All thanks to God

Please I was applying to University of Manitoba for a Masters program. there is a column to upload a file for supervisors support. Please can someone help me on what to do. I'm a bit confused. Thanks.
It is a must that all applicants to University of Manitoba (at least for someone programs) obtain a written confirmation of supervisor support before they apply. That document is what they are requesting.

How good is a CGPA of 4.46 for master's admission to top schools in canada
4.46 is good for all Universities in Canada. Though the very top schools might be... well.... tough. Whatever the case, the most important factor in Canadian Universities is securing a supervisor before you apply.

Please advice needed

I want to get a loan to help my cause for approval,
Do I need to leave the money in my account until my visa is approved or Do I return the money back before approval.I have 2million personally and I want to borrow to make it 10millon.

I graduated 2012 Electrical Engineering, since then I have not worked in my field.how do I explain that in my SOP cos I do business.
Memorial University
Please tell me you are not seriously considering going to Canada with 2 million. If you are banking your hopes on getting a student job, please be advised that getting a student job in Canada is not as easy as Australia. There is no guarantee that you will get it, or that if you do get a job, you will earn enough to cater for your tuition and living expenses.

Make no mistake, being financially stranded in a foreign country like Canada is far worse that being completely impecunious in your home country.

If it says 3.95 I am betting they mean on a 4.0 scale The next thing you should do is write the GRE make a good score. When you have written your GRE you can now use the score to combined with your Gpa and look for schools that match your profile. Like I said the next thing you need to do is write the gre.
Are you sure? I doubt even a top school like Stanford will require 3.95/4.0 as a minimum requirement.

@ KYLEXY61". Where you not able to secure scholarship in Canny or US?.. I know you had a very good grade. You know what....... Australia is a very good choice[/quote]I am still waiting for a response from them. They normally start giving out admissions decisions from February onwards.

So I'm considering all 3 options (USA, Canada, Australia) whichever suits me best.

You should have sourced for funds or something. Getting admision is easy with a good grade but getting admision with funding is the hard part. Many crazy students are coming from India, China with profile like yours or even better, so funding competition gets crazier each year. Let me ask you, what aspect of Civil are you looking at? Environmental and Geotechnical aspect seem to have more funding than structures. So if you intend to specialize in Structures, try apply to 1 or 2 phd programs. Additionally check Washington state University, I know application closed 2 days ago but who knows, with your profile you might just make it if you complete your application in 1week. My phylisophy in life is to do my own part as well as possible so I dont regret later that what if I try harder bla bla
Alright, thank you. I'll check the Washington State. I'm looking at the Geotechnical aspect

I don't think it works that way. Conversion according to professional evaluators is done by evaluating your transcript course by course (the way your original courses were put together to calculate your cpga) but not by conversation of the cumulative gpa.
Thanks for the info. I wasn't too sure, that's why I said "a rough way to convert".

Fine. You know ur sop, experience and recommendations matter too.
Yes. I tried my best to gather as much info as possible online about writing SOP's. I hope my sop and rec letters are good enough. I have no work experience as I graduated in 2017. I'm currently doing my national service, which is compulsory here in Ghana. I think it's something similar in Nigeria too right?

Pls, i dont knw if u schooled in Nigeria. I want to use ur Cgpa which is to 5.0 scale to get an inkling of what my cgpa will be when converted to 4.0 scale. I have a cgpa of 4.57 on a 5.0 scale.
I schooled in Ghana. My GPA is to a 4.0 scale. A rough way to convert your cgpa to a 4.0 scale is to multiply it by 4/5. That is, 4.57 x 4/5 = 3.66

Hello guys I'm a newbie here. I found this thread about 3 days ago. I'm currently still reading the earlier threads so I can get answers to some general questions. I must say you guys are doing soo well, everyone on this site has helped people from the university application stage to visa approvals. God richly bless everyone here.

I am a Fall 2018 aspirant with 3.92 GPA (out of 4) and GRE of 319 (163 Quant, 156 verbal and 4.5 analytical). I've applied to four US schs for Masters and I'm still waiting for their responses.

I hope by God's grace I'll get admission with full funding and get my visa approved. Once again, kuddos to you guys.

Get a student copy of your transcript. With that you dont need to be paying your school to send your transcript to any school. When any school requires your official transcriot, you notarize the student copy and send to them.
Actually, the majority of schools will not accept a notarized student copy as an official transcript. They will require the applicant to let their school mail it directly to them in a sealed envelope with a university stamp on it.

Any University of New Bruswick applicant here? I submitted my admission application since October 4th 2017 for fall 2018 but my status is still on "Your application is currently under review" no visible changes since that day. I have written a mail, no response. What can i do?
Relax. Some Universities don't start reviewing applications until January.

I am also an applicant to University of Toronto ECE Department. I secured a potential supervisor.

What’s your course?
I am also an applicant to University of Toronto Civil Engineering department. They stated on their website that students do not need to contact a potential supervisor. I still went ahead to contact some of them and one replied that he will talk with me in January, after I have submitted my application.

All admitted students are guaranteed full tuition waiver + CAD$16,000 minimum annual stipend.

Hello guys, I have been following this thread for a while. It took a very long time to catch up. I am planning to pursue my masters degree in Canada. I graduate with first class (and as the best student in my class) in my undergraduate degree.

I have secured a professor at York University for the MASc Civil Engineering program. I know that applying to just one university is not a good strategy. But I'm having a hard time securing professors from other universities. I want to apply to University of British Columbia and Uni of Toronto. Both schools stated on their Civil Engineering website that applicants do not need to contact any prospective supervisor before applying. I nevertheless contacted some of their professors and they all told me they don't choose their students before they apply.

I have not received any response from any other professor in any other university. Currently I am planning to apply to York, UBC and UofT but I still don't feel comfortable since UBC and UofT are quite competitive.

Can you guys give any suggestions, I have enough money to apply to about 5 universities.

edit: I am applying for the Fall 2018 semester.
