TheyareAlltaken: Please gurus in the house, I don't see anyone talking about GRE. Is it not applicable to Canadian universities? From the few schools I checked, there was no mention of it..... Thanks Most Canadian Universities don't require GRE for admission. If there is no trace of GRE on their website, they probably don't require. To be sure you can shoot them an email to verify. |

harde116: I had just 35CAD and 50USD when i entered. They didn't even ask how much i had with me. So if you have 1000CAD cash, you are super good to go, and don't forget to mention that you have money in your account and you have a debit card to access it.
They asked for proof of funds, and i mentioned my brother was my sponsor, and that was it even though i had a copy of the account statement.
Cheers Thanks bro. I appreciate |

Hello knowledgeable seniors.
Will the officers at the POE be satisfied if carry around 1,000CAD as physical cash, considering that I'm being fully funded by the University?
I have additional funds in bank account here in Ghana which I intend to accesa via atm once I reach Canada. I have already contacted the bank and confirmed that I can use the atm in Canada. |

Soluadebayo: Hello guys, glad to have come across this page, you guys are doing an excellent job.
I'm an undergraduate student, engineering, 400l, hopefully graduating next year. I'm on 4.7+. I'm planning to take GRE Oct, in fact I'm registering with BY Mafit today. But seriously I don't know if I'm taking steps in the right direction, like am I not being too forward? What are your advice people? I'm looking at going for a direct PhD US/Canada. If you are not planning to complete NYSC first, then go ahead and start stusying for the GRE. You have a very good GPA. With adequate preparation you will kill the GRE too and you'll be a step further towards your dream of studying abroad. PhD admissions in US and Canada usually come with full funding. |

uyplus: This isn't an answer to the question I raised! I asked about incidences where CIC defaulted by having an application stay above the average processing time, thereby causing an applicant to miss his/her resumption time. I never asked about admission deferrals! What he meant is when CIC realizes that the applicant has missed his/her resumption date, they won't go ahead and issue TRV. They will rather request for a new offer letter with the new start date. So the applicant will have to defer. |

Please forgive my many questions If this is the 1st time you are applying for a Canadian Visa, you can leave it blank. The UCI is a number that is generated for each applicant after he applies for a Canadian Visa for the 1st time. Then that number can be used in subsequent Visa applications. So leave it blank. |

Doyenrey: Please, what's going to happen if you apply with a passport that will expire about a month or 2 before the end of your proposed program?
A response will be appreciated. Thank you! Nothing will happen. If your passport will expire before the end of your program, CIC will simply issue you a visa valid till the expiry date on the passport. The same applies for the Study permit. What this means is that at some point during your studies in Canada, you will have to apply for study permit extension. It not really a big deal. |

ChemEngr01: The airport pickup is actually the least of my problems. I'd be missing my flight from JFK to Detroit, and the money is non-refundable. Also, spending 28hours in a lounge in Cassablanca is not even something I want to think about now.
Is there really nothing that can be done? Like get them to put one on an earlier flight? I've sent them a mail but no reply yet. Most airlines will put you on the next available flight if you miss your connecting flight (especially under circumstances beyond your control). I shudder to imagine how spending 28hrs at airport will be like. Is it possible to go outside the airport? Possible to tour the city to pass time? Or you'll need a transit visa? |

mybusinesss: I add like to ask a dumb question please. Forgive me but aren't you legally allowed to work for a certain period of time in Canada after your studies? Why then would a VO be concerned about one not returning back to his home country after studies? Not a dumb question at all. Lots of people express this sentiment. The reason is because you will need a work permit in order to work after studies. Since there is no guarantee that your work permit application will be approved, the VO cannot make the assumption that you would be able to legally stay after studies. So worse case scenario, if your work permit application is rejected, would you return home after studies or continue to stay back illegally? The VO's want the answer to be the former. So they ask you to prove this to them in the first place before you enter Canada. |

Dera12345: Thank you for your time and advice, but since my admission has been deferred to September 2019, let’s say April/ May won’t be too early entering Canada? Try not to go any earlier than May. Be advised, do not be tempted into taking up any kind of paid job before your school resumes. Doing so will be a costly mistake that will cripple your chances of succesfully securing a PGWP which allows you to stay back in Canada after graduation. So if you are planning on landing in Canada in April/May, understand that during that 3-4 month period till you resume, you will be SPENDING MONEY FROM YOUR POCKETS and will NOT accept any kind of job. |

Homguy: whoa! Is that how small Canada's economy is ? Its way easier entering canada legitimately than the US hence my reason for relocating there. Maybe after settling sufficiently one may consider the Us. But with the 'rate' of gun violence in the US its becoming a scary place for me,personally. Thanks for the heads-up tho. The economy of Canada isn't "small". Canada has the 10th largest economy in the world, a pretty impressive feat considering its population is only 37 million. USA simply has a behemoth of an economy, which pretty much dwarfs that of any other country in the world. Carlifornia, by virtue of its land size and population (39 million), could aptly be considered country on its own. Then suddenly, it isn't too surprising anymore that it has a bigger economy than Canada. |

Hello, I'd like to inquire how best to transfer money from Ghana to Canada.
I will be landing in Toronto in late August to start my Master's program at York University (Full Scholarship). I am planning to carry between 2,500CAD to 3,000CAD to Canada when I travel, which I presume should be enough to sustain myself until my first stipend drops in mid-Sept. However, I am unsure how best to transfer the money. Do I exchange everything to CAD here in Ghana and carry it on my journey? Or I can carry some small CAD, leave the rest in my bank account here and carry my ATM along (In that case I'll probably have to notify my bank about my intention to use the ATM outside Ghana). Which is better? |

goingforward: Thanks @Frankrobbn and @@Jnyuwa02 for your contributions.
By the 3rd week of August, my application would be 9 weeks. I am praying for an approval before then.
My God is able. But if by then if I have not heard from them, then I will send an email.
goingforward. I think this is a good idea. There is someone with the moniker "Lemia" whose application was approved and his medical status was never updated until he was approved. CIC never stated on their website that upfront medical status has to be updated soon after applying. At their own discretion, they could decide to review the applicant's eligibility and go through background checks before updating medical status. So personally, I don't think it's a good idea to send an email instructing them to update your medical when your application is still within processing times. |

einsteino: EXAMPLE TIME
like I said my phone model name is LG V20 and model number is LS997, model numbee is very important because not all model share the same hardware and software.
I headed to GSMarena to check the frequency band my phone supports. They are
I googled the frequency Rogers Canada operates on, here:
Frequencies used on the Rogers Network NETWORK Technology 2G bands........... GSM 850, 1900 MHz 3G bands............HSDPA 850, 1900 MHz 4G bands............LTE band 4(1700/2100)
Conclusion: my phone would work just fine with Rogers because it supports frequency 850, 1900 for 2G&3G and 1700, 2100 for 4G. These are actually the most commonly used frequencies by Canadian mobile network, so you should be fine in Canada if your phone support these frequencies. What if my phone supports only one of the frequencies? My infinix phone supports both 850 and 1900 for 2G (GSM) but it only supports 850 for the 3G. Will it still work? |

Jewel80: Please someone just made mention of 'transit visa', that if my flight is not a direct one: from lagos to edmonton, that i will be asked to show a transit pass at each stop we make. I myself dont even understand this, please can someone clear me?
I want to board ethopian airlines and there will be 2 stops before we finally get to edmonton. According to their website, once you put in your departure and destination, the flight lists comes out and all of them have their stops, the one am choosing even has the least number of hours and stops. How do i know which flight is direct or not and what is this about transit visa? Please i will really appreciate an explanation from someone, thanks guys! Which 2 cities will your Ethiopian flight stop at? And for how long? You only need a transit visa when your plane stops in USA. Anywhere else, you are good to go, unless under some special circumstances. |

Pawlahh: Okay so it won’t be a problem going with two passports?, okay will think of this then Yeah. Else you'll have to pay for the costs of travelling to and from Ottawa, applying for passport renewal and also study permit extension. The total cost may sum up to more than 500CAD. I'm currently in a somewhat similar situation. But my passport won't expire for another 2 years (it will expire before I graduate). I tried to renew, but with 2 years validity remaining, they wouldn't permit me to. So I'll have to renew in Canada. |
