Please after I got a medical request from CIC last week, I completed the medicals at the hospital this monday, 9th April. But my portal still says "We have requested for a medical exam". I'm a bit concerned. Isn't it supposed to change to "We are reviewing your medicals" or something similar? Or does it simply change straight away to "You passed your medicals" after some few days? |

harde116: ATTENTION! ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!!
Hello everyone.
It's been really helpful on this platform but i appear to be really confused. I just started my application today after i got the letter of acceptance from my school and i paid the first deposit already.
However, i don't seem to see all the things you guys talk about here on my documents checklist. Not even SOP, the many other forms people mention here or any other document. I still have a valid canadian visa and i just returned last month. Could this be the reason for the exemptions?
MY DOCUMENTS CHECKLIST
*Application for study permit made outside of Canada (IMM1294) *Letter of Acceptance *Passport *Proof of means of financial support *Digital photo *Family information (IMM5645) *APplication for a temporary resident visa from outside canada (IMM5257) *Client information
And of course, the fees.
COULD THESE BE EVERYTHING?
I applied for my visiting visa myself and i uploaded only the documents they required on my checklist.
Please guide me, i hope i'm not on the wrong page, or is this what everyone is seeing? Your document checklist is the same as mine and everyone else's. There is no problem here. Upload SOP, Police Clearance and other additional documents in the "Client Information" field. |

Osemigho!!!
I'm always happy to see your posts. I remember when I joined nairaland last year and was reading through the earlier threads.
This Osemigho guy had been rejected by all 3 Universities he applied to. He didn't give up. He tried again the next year, sent 50 or so emails to profs and finally got one at U of Calgary. For him, full scholarship was an absolute necessity because he wouldn't be able to afford the fees otherwise. He received a fully funded admission to Calgary, promptly applied for trv and needless to say, it was approved.
Now this guy guy didn't even stop there. Before he even landed in Cannyland to start his masters, he went ahead to apply for Permanent Residency via EE and later got it.
Two years ago, he was a young Naija graduate with perhaps an uncertain future. Today, he is pursuing masters on a full scholarship with a PR card already in hand. God has blessed you, and will continue to do so.
It shall end in praise for us all. |

gudnews212: Hello friends. In sequel to my post last week, where I ask the house to be help me in searching for three(3) Universities that are good in phd electrical engineering. I have tried to find the following school 1) University of Texas- Austin.(2) University of Maryland (3) Tennessee Technological University (4) University of Michigan- Ann Arbor (5) Prince University (6) Purdue University - West Lafayette. please I need d house to help me reduce it to three(3) University. Thanks n GOD bless u all for your efforts in helping humanity. All the schs you have mentioned, apart from perhaps #3 are top schools. So you should be fine with any 3. You should consider factors like funding availability and research fit when making your choice. However, in addition to the above, please do well to apply to "lower ranked" schools. So called "lower ranked" because these admissions systems are unpredictable. For example, I got an admit to Purdue, and was rejected by Arizona State University. So do well to spread your wings. |

Those of you who want to reduce the size of your PDF documents for online application. One way you can achieve this is to use Foxit Reader. It's a PDF reader just like Adobe. Once you open your document with Foxit Reader,
1. Go to File>Print. 2. In the dialogue box that opens, make sure the name of the printer (top left corner) is set to "Foxit Reader PDF Printer". 3. Then choose "Properties" at the top right corner. 4. Another dialogue box will open. Reduce the "Image Resolution" to whichever (reasonable) value you want and select OK
A new PDF file will be created on your computer.
I followed this procedure to change the resolution of my WAEC certificate from 600 to 200. File size dropped from 2.6Mb to 878kb. The image quality hardly changed and it is still perfectly readable.
It is best to use this procedure individually on your documents before you merge them |

frostsc: My point is that it's not a bad school. But if we take out the element of the fact that It's an Institute of Technology, and a good one at that, to the lay man, he has not heard about it before.
For an engineering student well, it could be a top choice. But as I said, it's a personal decision. I just prefer regular universities to an Institute of Technology. At the bolded Including Georgia Institute of Technology? Because I can bet you that GeorgiaTech will open more doors than 90% of regular Universities in USA. |

Olalekank: Please what school is that. What qualified you for the full funding? York University. I got accepted into a thesis-based masters. And I contacted and secured a supervisor before I applied. I think at York University (and most other Canadian Universities for that matter), most thesis masters students are eligible for funding. Though it is not guaranteed. |

jnyuwa02: They usually have letters of offers separate from admission letters. But it looks like the school you got admitted to doesn't do that? If so, upload the admission/offer letter in each of the category required. No harm if it's the same letter. In the column of the form that ask you for how you intend to support yourself, make it unequivocally clear, write FULL SCHOLARSHIP. Yes include SOA for yourself and any alternative sponsor(s) like parents or spouse. Yes it shows your ability to pay the cost of your travel to Canada and can also act as a tie to Nigeria if your family is buoyant.
Best, Jnyuwa02 Thanks, I accepted the admission offer just two days ago. So perhaps they might send the separate letter of offer in the coming days. |

Guys, I am in the process of applying for my visa online and I'm a bit confused about something. I received full funding from the Canadian University I applied to, which was outlined in my admission offer. On the application form, what document should I upload in the field for "Proof of means of Financial Support"? Do I just upload my admission offer letter? I'm confused because there is a separate field for "Letter of Acceptance", which means that I will be uploading my admission offer letter twice. I just want to know how people who have applied for trv with funding from their school dealt with this situation.
PS: I will also include my SOA in my application, at least to show the VO I will have sufficient funds to cover my flight and other expenses before I land in Canada

jnyuwa02: Congrats! York is a wonderful school, with great reputation and very diverse and in an urban setting. You will like it. You got it right! Submit your SOA no matter how small. Someone on this forum with full scholarship got approved with a mediocre 450k in his account. Your dad's SOA also can help especially if it has a lot of money. It can act as home tie to show VO that you guys are not suffering, so chances are that you will return to Nigeria. Best wishes. Thanks for the help |

jnyuwa02: March 1st most admission start been sent out!! Good luck to all prospective students fall applicants. All eyes are waiting anxiously. Make sure to apply quickly as soon as you receive admission and compile paperwork. Processing time in Nigeria now is the lowest its ever been in recent memory: 11 weeks. Fall gets crazy and may jump to 22 weeks average processing time. So apply soon to avoid been back logged till next year cos fall is the busiest time for CIC. Best wishes. I got admission to York University with full funding (Tuition + 17,000CAD annual stipend). I will not be using anyone as sponsor. But as I have learnt from this great thread, it is still wise for the applicant to submit SOA. My problem is, I have very little money in my account at the moment. Can I submit my dad's SOA instead? |

Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 13 by kylexy61(m): 9:44am On Feb 09, 2018 |
jnyuwa02: Now it is established that an EE application can affect a student visa application. But it ought not to be. This is a perfect case to take to the Federal Court in Canada. While I agree with that this ought not to be the case, they do have a valid reason for doing that. The study permit is a non-immigrant visa and they treat it as such. The applicant must show every intention of returning home after the visa expires. In other words, the prospect of returning home should look appealing to the applicant. This so that in case in the future, the applicant is not able to secure a visa that enables him to stay permanently, he will not retort to staying illegally (because going back home is just as appealing) If you proclaim that you will return in your trv application, go to canada and later decide to seek a permanent resident visa, no one cares. No one will come and drag you. But the question is what will you do if that permanent visa application is unsuccessful? Will u continue to stay illegally or you will return home. CIC wants the answer to be the latter, that's why they want you to prove to them in the first place. |
