I don't usually get involved in this sort of argument but you misled people, myself inclusive, when you posted the picture of that book.
If you read his post in its entirety and you're honest to yourself, you will conclude that he was requesting for a book of Awolowo that you've read that aludes to Ojukwu releasing Awo. Because that was the crux of this argument.
Instead, you posted a book published in 1960 and never alluded to that fact.
It's either you are not a good reader or you trying to be clever by half or both.

I have asserted severally that in all of his books he never mentioned that Gowon released him and refused to admit that Ojukwu released for reasons I have stated above (go back and read slowly). Even though only the East had the power to release him as Ojukwu had called a press conference to declare that the East won't recognize Gowon.

I posted the book because I needed to debunk his attempt to discredit my claims of reading Awo's books and try to create doubt on my credibility. How do I drum this into your amygdala and cerebellum.

Again, in all of his books, pre-independence and post-independence he never mentioned being released by Gowon or Ojukwu. Awo was a very proud and stubborn boy in his youth. Before he completed standard 3 (primary school) in 1927 he had already served 4 different masters due to his stubborness. He was either sent home or ran away from their homes.

Read his books and get into his mind. Not propaganda.
Stop pretending to be blind because you already have your preconceived bias and narratives.

Good night.

Why would you use a book not related to the release of Awo to justify your claim about Ojukwu releasing him.

What you tried to do was confusing the uninformed folks on here by trying to push the narratives of a well versed reader and trying to use false tongue to confuse sane minds.

Check the thread from page one, I have been asking you folks to show me one credible source either pictorial, video, or prints that gives credence to your assertions and none of you were able to provide any.

Is this all the brain the Igbos could muster to defend Ojukwu actions? You all don’t even have any evidence or historical knowledge or factual sources to back your claims.

If you’re trying to argue online in a forum as vast as Nairaland, you must make sure you have the necessary tools to back your claims before rational minds can be convinced. Even in the law court, evidence win cases, judges don’t base judgments on mere emotions or hearsay!

Mr. LabDna you said you have read all Awo book and he made no mention about Gowon releasing him.

Please I’m asking for the upteenth time, can you tell us the books you’ve read so I can ask you some certain questions from the topics in the book.

Like many of your brothers you have an integrity problem and enjoy standing logic on it's head.

Was asleep before.

So You’re showing me a book published in 1960. So how will this relay the events of 1966 and beyond?

The work was completed in 1960, the year Nigeria gained its long-awaited independence. Accordingly, the autobiography is dedicated to a 'new and free Nigeria', with the trust that its people will enjoy 'a more abundant life'.

I’m ashamed of you!
The book is unrelated to the release of Awo, but in direct response to your challenge that I prove if I have read any of his book. I put it to you that I know Awo's methodology of thinking than you do.

The man never mention that he was released by Gowon (for integrity issues) and could not bring himself to rightfully say that Ojukwu released him (due to the attendant shame) in any of his books published pre-independence and post-independence even though he lived a whole 17 years after the war.

He was not released by Gowon but by the Eastern region which NEVER TOOK ORDERS FROM GOWON.
The truth is the truth and it is glaring to all. I've given this topic a greater share of my time than it deserves. The world knows the truth already.
I'm out.

This is a one sided story.

The DSS don’t just arrest ordinary citizens without probable cause. It’s either you are not telling the full story, which is understandable, or your friend has hidden his personal dealings from you.

Either way - your best solution now is to instruct a Lawyer to take out a Fundamental Rights Claim in the Federal High Court, Abuja. HABEAS CORPUS specifically.

You will spend money - but no DSS will refuse a Federal High Court Order to produce a prisoner, and Release him if there is no probable cause to detain him.

Unconventionally, like someone mentioned earlier - try to use Social Media influencers on Twitter. Someone somewhere high up may listen and raise some questions on your behalf.

Regardless - the Federal High Court is your best bet.
The same courts that DSS have been tearing up their worthless judgments and throwing it into trashcans as in Sowore's case?

You make me laugh. grin

I don't really have anything to prove to you. There is no burden for something that is as clear as daylight. The questions are simple but you are only interested in muddling up issues to sustain your revisionism which is already at a dead end.

Was Awo in prison in the Eastern region? Yes!

Was Eastern region under the direct command of Ojukwu! Yes!

Was Gowon legitimate in eyes of the Ojukwu and the East? No!

Did Ojukwu and the East take orders from Gowon? No!

Was it possible for Gowon to influence what happened in the East who saw him as illegitimate after killing Eastern officers! No!

Did Gowon command and control the police, prisons, and military in the East? No!

Who did? Ojukwu!

If Ojukwu controlled the Eastern military, paramilitary and prisons, then who unlocked the prison doors for Awo? Could it have been 'illegitimate Gowon' No!

Who did then? The man who controlled the Eastern military and administrative apparatuses, Ojukwu!

Anyone who can't get this simple issue very clear after breaking it down like biscuit-bones, is a lost cause. Revisionism can't work in this issue.

BTW, this is the one of Awo's book in my office right now in one of branches the others are at home.

The regional governors were military. Look at your fist sentence above "SUPREME MILITARY COUNCIL"!

The order from the Supreme Commander trumps and overrules any other standing regional order. If it wasnt Ironsi's decree 34 would have been meaningless and void.
Then name the officers that bypassed Ojukwu's authority in the East and executed Gowon's order in a region where he was illegitimate.

Ojukwu was also a member of the supreme military council as Eastern governor, so tell us who Gowon replaced him with to carry out the military signal for the release.

You all know the truth, you just have a hard time accepting it for the reasons previously stated. grin

Provide me a single source or credible link that gives credence to the fact that the Supreme military council headed by Yakubu Gowon as at July 29, 1966 do not have power over the eastern region.

I’m waiting!
Stop bandying about biased sources from Gowon and Adebayo your credible sources na. Everyone is not an idiot.

If south korea decides to release a north korea prisoner, Kim jong un of north korea will tell his people 'I released the prisoner'. Is he expected to say anything different?

Until you show us how Gowon who was afraid of travelling to the East you claimed he controlled, travelled to that region that wanted his head on a plate for killing Ironsi and other Eastern officers to effect Awo's release, then you are not making any headway in this argument except embarrasing yourself.

The truth is known to all mankind, Gowon was illegitimate in the East and his orders were of no effect in the East. He didn't release Awo.

When did Ojukwu take ownership of the eastern region? Does being a governor of eastern region mean Ojukwu control the region?

Do you mean the supreme military council don’t have authority over eastern region 6days after killing Ironsi?
During the regional government, the supreme military council can not bypass the Military Governor of a region to give orders in that region except he is removed. Was Ojukwu removed by Gowon before Awo was released?

Can you please provide one source that claimed Gowon don’t have authority over the eastern region 6 days after the counter coup by the northern military officers?

The Coup that killed Ironsi is July 29th 1966right?

Gowon released Awolowo in August 4th 1966 right?

Can you give just one source to claim Ojukwu had control of the eastern region just 6 days after the counter coup that killed Ironsi.

This will be the last time I will reply if you don’t give a dignifying reply with credible sources. I’m tired of going on and off and spoon-feeding grown up men online.
It was a regional government with a good dose of regional autonomy (isn't that what you all are now clamouring for today), first there was the anti-Eastern massacre in may, there was a countercoup where many Eastern officers have been killed in July 66 which produced Gowon who was junior to Brig. Ogundipe.

Ojukwu the Eastern military Governor insisted that the military hierrachy be preserved, and made it clear he would not recognize Gowon, under military doctrine do leaders take orders from a superior they don't recognize?

Calabar was in the Eastern region under Ojukwu's command. Which means the prison officers and administators of Calabar province took orders directly from Ojukwu their leader not Gowon. Whether Gowon made a pronouncement or not was immaterial, he was illegitimate simple and short.

These are glaring facts in history books, but you can go on to skip these parts because you don't agree with it. But the world knows better.

There is no contemporaneous newspaper record ANYWHERE of \Ojukwu having anything to do with the release

Ojukwu's Eastern region under absolute control of Gowon?

The Eastern region was under the absolute control of Ojukwu when Awolowo was released from Calabar prison, as a matter of fact there was near total severance of all forms of Federal presence and control in the East as Ojukwu simply refused to recognize the government of Gowon... with these simple facts in context, how the fucck could Gowon have secured the release of Awolowo from the East without Ojukwu( the Military governor of the East, and by all standards the only Rebel figure at the time) getting involved? stop boring is with these revisionist tales already you mo.ron.
How a people are bent on claiming that colour white is black and still go on to argue about amazed me.

I've read Awo's books, he lived for 17 years after war but couldn't bring himself to write that Gowon unilaterily released him, despite being a former journalist, lawyer, politician and above all an avid writer. The man must have battled with his conscience and how he would have lost credibility for telling an obvious lie.

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/191679-why-i-released-awolowo-from-prison-gowon.html

Another link below where General RA Adebayo spoke about releasing Awo from calabar and how he joined the Gowon government.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/07/how-we-freed-awolowo-from-prison-to-join-gowons-govt-by-gen-adebayo/amp/
Is Gowon the glory-hunter expected to deny that he released Awolowo?

Is Adebayo a yoruba man expected to accept that the East which was a no-go area for Gowon released Awo, who later went on a war of attrition and campaign of genocide on the East. It will make yoruba look like the worst scums of earth?

But regardless it remains the truism. No ruler can unilaterily release a prisoner in area he has no authority.

Gowon had no authority in the East at that time, they never took orders from him, he was not even recognised in the East, the East released Awo.

Stop twisting facts.
