The Zaria Hausas in the past were the most important Hausas of all. the Zaria Sarkindom was the important seat of Hausa rule.
The Zaria Hausas in the past were mostly farmers and there was a sizeable majority of city-dwellers.

The Zaria men, Zezzege used to have tribal marks as of : 1) a vertical line in the middle of the forehead. or
2) a small line on the right cheek called bille.

After the Fulani invasion, many Zazzau Hausa migrated to Suleja (Abuja) with the fleeing Sarki Jatau. those that remained. a few got mixed with FUlani settlers and are called Hausa-FUlani. the rest mostly disperesed towards the country-side or to other areas of Hausaland.

The current Sarkin SUleja is actually destroying Hausa culture instead of protecting it. he is completely brainwashed. Last time , he banned all the traditional Hausa masquerades, practice of bridegrooms holding Hens tail during royal weddings, races by bridegrooms, and other such cultural activities and traditional rituals. He says that it is un-islamic and now he has better understanding of islam. the old fool.

It was a bloody Wednesday in Alakyo village of Lafia
East Development Area of Nasarawa State as over
90 people were reportedly feared dead yesterday
in a gun duel involving security operatives and
members of the Eggon militia group, Ombatse.
The operatives had been deployed there to effect
the arrest of the leader of the group, Baba Alakyo,
and recover arms said to be in his possession.
To underscore the severity of the gun duel, of the 11
trucks of security men deployed to the area, only
two returned safely to the capital with only 20
policemen; nine of whom sustained various degrees of
gunshot wounds. An assistant commissioner of police,
Momoh, who led the team; some officers of the
State Security Service (SSS) and about 15 Civil
Defence Corps officers were among those killed.
The incident occurred when the militiamen, who got
wind of the impending arrest of their leader, Alakyo,
by mobile police officers, ambushed the truck
conveying the officers by dusk; forcing a retreat.
