U.S. Customs A woman from Nigeria passed these pellets of heroin, federal authorities allege. By NBCWashington.com A record was set at Dulles Airport over the weekend: the most heroin ever recovered there from a human stomach. Please don't try this one at home. (Or at the airport. Definitely not at the airport.) On Saturday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Nigerian woman who'd allegedly ingested 180 thumb-sized pellets of heroin. ________________________________________ That amounts to 4 pounds, 12 ounces. Bola Adebisi, 52, arrived at Dulles from Nigeria on Wednesday, March 14. During a secondary inspection, Adebisi said she was going to stay with her brother, but was unable to provide her brother’s address, phone number or physical description, authorities said. During a routine patdown, a female CBP officer noticed that Adebisi’s stomach was abnormally rigid, and an X-ray at a local hospital discovered some hidden cargo, authorities said. By the time an affidavit was submitted for criminal charges, Adebisi had passed a number of pellets that had a combined weight exceeding 100 grams, authorities said. She remained in the hospital until Saturday night, when X-rays confirmed she'd passed them all. Adebisi will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. "The amount of pellets and heroin this woman ingested is incredible, a serious health risk, and very troubling if these numbers become the new normal," said Christopher Hess, CBP Port Director for the Port of Washington, D.C. The previous largest "internal pellet seizure" at Dulles was March 30, 2011, according to CBP. A 46-year-old Nigerian man was arrested after expelling 100 pellets of heroin with a combined weight of a little more than four pounds. |
http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/f , 2-001.html Auto makers hail FG’s order for 6, 000 buses By Moses Akaigwe [igwemos@sunnewsonline] Friday January 13, 2012 • Photo: Sun News Publishing Vehicle manufacturers in the country have hailed the new mass transit scheme which requires the bus makers among them to build about 6,000 units of mass transit carriers between now and June, 2012. They said the rare patronage is capable of reviving the ailing sub-sector and stimulate even in the linked industries. The auto makers who spoke through the Executive Director of the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association (NAMA), Mr Arthur Madueke, also stated their commitment to the prompt execution of the order, and meeting the conditions built into the deal, including the establishment of maintenance workshops across the country to ensure the smooth operation of the vehicles. All the buses to be produced by the Nigerian manufacturers must be of diesel engine type with 26 seats and above. Madueke who was reacting to the patronage from the Federal Government as formally announced by President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday, disclosed that apart from the initial batch produced by the auto makers for the launch of the scheme, they were expected to inject about 3,000 buses into the mass transit pool between January and March. Another batch of between 2, 000 and 3, 000 units will be produced before the end of the second quarter of the year, to bring the total to about 6, 000. “Yes, it is a welcome development. It is the kind of patronage the auto industry has been yearning for, and we fully support the efforts of government to use the gains from the subsidy withdrawal to boost mass transportation and revive our industry”. Madueke told the Daily Sun. Commenting on the mass transit scheme after the meeting with the Trade and Industry Minister, the Director-General of the National Automotive Council (NAC), Dr Aminu Jalal, thumbed up for government for its decision to source the vehicles locally, describing it as a deliberate and sustainable effort to use the new programme to achieve the dual goals of easing transportation problems and at the same time helping to revive the auto industry. Preparatory to the launch of the mass transit scheme on Sunday, Dr Aganga had presided over a meeting in his office in Abuja, which was attended by the NAC Director-General, the NAMA Executive Director and the concerned bus manufacturers, where the modalities were worked out. At the meeting were representatives of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited (IVM), Nnewi; National Truck Manufacturers (NTM), Kano; VoN Automobiles Nigeria Limited (formerly Volkswagen of Nigeria, Ojo, Lagos); ANAMMCO, Enugu; GM Nigeria, Lagos, Leiland-Busan Limited, Ibadan; Steyr Nigeria Limited, Bauchi; and A.G. Leventis, Lagos. Speaking to the Daily Sun Motoring on the development, the Managing Director of NTM, Ibrahim Bayero, described the move by government as a welcome gesture which is in line with the yearning of the industry over the years, and stated his company’s readiness to contribute to the success of the mass transit scheme. In his reaction, the Chairman of the Innoson Group, Chief Innocent Chukwuma (OFR), described the decision of the Federal Government to source a large number of the buses for the mass transit programme as an action that would impact positively on the industry, especially in terms of raising capacity utilization and creation of jobs. “We thank the President for making good his government’s promise to encourage the domestic auto industry through the patronage of its vehicles. We on our part will reciprocate by producing top quality buses that will stand the test of time. Some of us have already put in place workshops at strategic locations in various parts the country, so that the buses wont have after-sales problems”, Chukwuma said. President Jonathan had on October 15, 2010, personally commissioned Innoson’s plant in Nnewi, where he commended the company’s wide range of buses, pick-ups, SUVs and refuse management vehicles. He instantly called for support for locally based manufacturers with the kind of courage displayed by the plant. Though seven auto companies manufacturing buses in the country are participating in the execution of the contract to make buses for the new mass transit programme, only four of them jointly supplied the initial batch moved to the Eagle Square, Abuja, hours before the President flagged it off on Sunday. They are Innoson, NTM, ANAMMCO, and VoN. |
onetrack:First, the Quran does not forbid polygamy. Secondly, the jury is still out whether the Bible forbids polygamy, but I don’t wanna go into that now because that’s not what this thread is about. The Law passed by the senate makes same sex marriage illegal i.e. it says you cannot marry a person of same sex with you. The same way the western countries went to court to legalize same sex marriage, Nigeria has decided to illegalize it. No one has said you cannot sleep with a fellow man inside your bedroom. What we are saying is that you cannot come to the registry or the church to wed. You should also note that historically, there are some tribes where a woman can marry more than one husband. The fact that this practice is not widespread, ostensibly due to its lack of attraction, does not mean that there was an injunction against it. |
I hope he is going to get Saudi Arabia to obey these rules. |
Have we really read the story before running to write our replies here? The story said that about 6 people have died from HIV after being healed by evangelical pastors. The key word here is pastors. Not one not two. Then the story diverted and said that Sky sent undercover reporters to synagogue claiming they were HIV positive. Now the story did not say that any of the dead 6 were allegedly cured by synagogue. It did not tell us the name of the other churches that were claiming to cure HIV. It did not also tell us how many of this 6 attended synagogue and how many attended the other churches. The story was written with many loopholes leaving us the readers to make assumptions not backed by factual positions. I was about to blast synaguoge until I read the story a 2nd time. NB: HIV doesn't kill, Aids does. |
OP sorry to burst your bubble, but Siasia lost to Togo in the WAFU cup final in Lagos. Or did you convieniently forget that? Siasia has never ever succeeded with any senior team - he coached 3 NPL teams, 2 went on relegation (JUTH, Bayelsa Utd) and one (Heartland) fnished at their lowest level in 10 years and also finished last in their African Champions League group, this is despite playing in the finals of the same tournament in the previous year. Siasia won 1 match out of 4 in the WYC in Egypt beating only Haiti. Siasia is a youth coach who succeeded by playing old men against boys. Now that he is playing men against men, we have all seen the results. I do not see why a coach that failed to qualify Nigeria for ANC shoudl be left on the job when the one that qualified for WC was fired. |
Well, for over 10 years now, Youth Corpers in Rivers State are not allowed to serve in Private firms, and I have not seen any corper posted to Rivers State that says he or she did not get a place to serve. So the assumption that corpers cannot be absorbed in government establishments is wrong. Rivers State has already shown that it can be done. |
It isnt an open and shut case as people think. There seems to be a massive mis-representation of what Shell actually accepted: --------------------------------------------- 04-Aug-2011 Mutiu Sunmonu, Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company in Nigeria, writes an open letter to the media following inaccurate reports over spills in the Niger Delta. The volume of the two Bodo spills is some 4,000 barrels. This compares with 4,000,000 barrels estimated by the US government to have spilled into the Gulf of Mexico as as a result of BP Deepwater Horizon, and Exxon’s figure of 260,000 for Exxon Valdez. SPDC has publicly released internal data on spill numbers, volumes and causes. It is the only operator in the Nigeria to do so. These data show that about 75% of SPDC spills across the delta over the last five years (2006-2010) have been the result of sabotage, oil theft and illegal refining by criminal gangs. In Ogoni land it is higher still. However, 25% of spills have been caused by operational failure or human error. SPDC has stated publicly that this is unacceptable and that it has to improve its performance. Visit the spills reporting website A UN Environment Protection report has also been released today and is a study of oil contamination in Ogoni land. Read more In the last 24 hours, a high level of media have reported legal action which is taking place in the UK involving oil spills in Nigeria. In the coverage a number of facts have been mis-reported and given an inaccurate picture of events. In response, Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Managing Director Mutiu Sunmonu has written an open letter to the media to redress inaccuracies in the points made, in particular regarding the scale of the spills – which have been compared by many reports to the size of the BP Deepwater Horizon incident or Exxon Valdez spills - and the financial claim. An open letter on oil spills from the Managing Director of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd 4 August 2011 Oil spills in the Niger Delta are a tragedy, and the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) takes them very seriously. That is why we have always accepted responsibility for paying compensation when they occur as a result of operational failure. SPDC has always acknowledged that the two spills in the Bodo area in 2008, which are the focus of extensive media reports today, were caused by such operational failure. Even when, as is true in the great majority of cases, spills are caused by illegal activity such as sabotage or theft, we are also committed to cleaning up spilt oil and restoring the surrounding land. It is unfortunate that inaccurate reporting has created the impression that SPDC in particular and oil companies in general are responsible for all oil spills in Nigeria. The two spills at issue here resulted in around 4,000 barrels of oil being spilt. It is regrettable that any oil is spilt anywhere, but it is wildly inaccurate to suggest that those two spills represent anything like the scale which some reports refer to. Equally, speculation by the plaintiffs' lawyers as to the level of compensation which may be payable is misguided and massively in excess of the true position. Concerted effort is needed on the part of the Nigerian government (which itself owns a majority interest in the assets operated by SPDC under a joint operating agreement with the Nigerian state oil company, NNPC), working with oil companies and others, to end the blight of illegal refining and oil theft in the Niger Delta, both of which perpetuate poverty. This is the major cause of the environmental damage which media reports have so graphically illustrated. Mutiu Sunmonu Managing Director Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd |
@baro- Ghana had control of d midfield becos they played a 4-5-1 formation with 5 midfielders. Their plan was simply to choke d middle and stop Nigeria from playing. The tactics worked in d 1st half. In d 2nd half Nigeria had to bypass d midfield by playing long balls to the strikers. Note that Nigeria played 3 midfielders Otekpa, Nwankwo and Igiebor with Igiebor joining d attack more. So that left us with just 2 dedicated midfield players in that game. We had to win and so the tactics was justified. In d return leg we will add an additional midfielder in captian Haruna and sacrifice 1 striker - likely Ighalo. So its all good. |
I don't get it. Are you guys saying they shouldn't be granted bail Is the offence not bailable? Is it an offence subject to capital punishment? Where in the world would such an offence not be subject to bail? Are you guys saying that they should stay in detention for the duration of the trial even if the laws of the land say otherwise. Since when did granting bail become a basis for concluding that the Judiciary is corrupt?Sometimes I just marvel at the things I read on nairaland. How old are you guys, Really!! |
@ Kilode. Please read to entire bill. Section 26.1(iii) states that the Court can order disclosure if it finds that the disclosure will serve the public interest more. Section 22 also provides that proceedings in court for any application brought under the Act shall be heard summarily. As for those who are only interested in finding negatives in the bill because they are disappointed that a PDP government actually passed such a wonderful bill, well, you will remain in the minority. |
Da Doctor:Nna no wahala. Whether Job was swallowed by a fish or Job swallowed a fish, the important thing is that there was swallow . |
fnep2smooth:Just shut up! Which 10,000 jobs did Ohakim give? Ohakim that duped job seekers by collecting N2,000 from each of them promising them jobs that did not exist only to suddenly churn out 10,000 employment letters on 23/05/2011, just 5 days to the end of his tenure? Do you really think we are so st.upid or what? Your brother got a job in December? So by giving letters to less than 2% of the promised 10,000, Ohakim has achieved his target? So you collect N2,000 from more than 500,000 people and you offer Level 7 jobs to about 150 of them and that means everything is okay? You must be a major fraud like your hero. And what is Clean and Green? Planting flowers? Thats the achievement of a state gov in 4 years? Flowers! |
FACE:Old boy, please don't spoil the Igbo language. If you do not know what Ikiri means you should just say so and not fabricate a response. Ikiri is not a slang! Ikiri is the Igbo name for the small animal with big eyes popularly called 'Bush baby'. The animal is renowned for its ability to hold on to whatever it grips. Usually it stays on trees and grips the tree branches so tight that even when it is shot dead, it still holds on to the branch and the hunter will have to manually extricate the grip before it can detach the animal from the branch. The most difficult part is that if you catch Ikiri in a trap, it will grip the trap and you may be forced to cut off its fingers in order to detach it from the trap. That is why in Igbo we say "onya ji Ikiri, Ikiri ji kwa onya". So Ohakim called himself Ikiri in order to show that he has a grip on the Govt house and only at death or by his own choice will he detach from it. |

dazangel11:I don't think you know anything about Imo state. Those of us from there can tell you clealry that only massive, unprecedented rigging can give Ohakim this election. APGA cleared the polls. |
cityweekly:You are fabricating these results. As at mid-day Channels TV announced the official results of 10 LGAs in Imo state. APGA had 6, PDP 3 and 1 was cancelled. How then did you arrive at 2 for APGA and 16 for PDP? You Ohakim guys will go to any lenght to create confusion. |
