Vado: Oh c'mon, whether i'm a Baptist, Lutheran, Calvinist what does it matter. We are all custodians of this faith. You would rather me not criticise the pope just because he's a pope? If i should go by that logic then the 16th century Pope Charles V who sold indulgences and under whose authority a corrupt church thrived prior to the reformation shouldn't be critcised too right? Look man, they are just mortals like you and I so they aren't all that special or immune to making mistakes.in this case, tell me what ia not right with what the pope is saying here? |
pls God, forgive me for not going for mass on this holy day to honoure our lady. am sorry |
quotin jman05 if i may ask, what church do u worship? because i know dat all d many protestant and penticostal churches in d world preach diff doctrines. so there is not just two contradictry doctrines but many. ....................,........,........... am a catholic if u agree with me that every other church preach diff doctrine then what is ur problem with the catholic church anybody can claim to be a christian as far as they clain to follow the footstep of christ. like i said before, that doesnt mean that Christ recognize them as such. their fruit helps us very well. .......................................................... then if d catholic church claimed to be xtian, it also mean dat u claimed to b same as well. are u telling me that christ recognized urs and does not recognize the catholic church? a) I appreciate ur saying that apostle Paul, Peter, James etc knew nothing about God until catholic came on board after their death. because xtianity started with them. isnt that hilarious? b) name one thing catholic preserved for the apostles or even later xtians. .................................................................. the apostles u mentioned were they penticostals or protestants? that same church of the apostles was later known as d catholic church. after st. peter it was linus who bcame pope and d names are in d bible. if u say otherwise then show me d church of the apostls which jesus promised to build under the rock st. peter. and one great thing the church preaerved is d true faith. Can you prove it from the bible? .............................................................. it seems ur a bible fanatic. ur d type dat turn d bible upside down due to ur hatred for the church an insincerity. i wont wast my time. go and read d whole of new testament. if the catholic church is not a xtian church den there is no xtianity. |

BERNIMOORE: at times you want want to ask youself how these cardinal/priest/overseer truly satify the biblcal requirements to be nominated as a cardinal, did i.hear u say biblical requirement, i tot u bible students argue that there is nothing like priest, bishop, cardinal, pope in d bible? ur even quoting d bible to support u? some of u pentiostals are quite funny. smh people who have not read their bible are coming to challeng a bible scholar, smwww |
JMAN05: @op. no one asked you to celebrate easter, easter was there before christ came i suppose nor did christ tell you to celebrate his birth. memorial of christ's death is not easter.if i may ask, what church do u worship? because i know dat all d many protestant and penticostal churches in d world preach diff doctrines. so there is not just two contradictry doctrines but many. that u dong blive in catholic church does not make it less xtian. and xtianity cannot do without d catholic church because everything u know about God as a xtian was preserved and thought by that church. its just like saying that ur dad is not d real jman(if thats ur surname) just because ur not in good terms with him. ur church is even less xtian thAn d catholic church |
Vado: That same lukewarm attitude and living in denial was what propelled the lose of constantinople (Turkey) and some other parts of Western Europe to the jihadists. Preaching tolerance is cool Mr. Pope but remember not even Christ was economical with the truth at any point in time so i don't get this religion diplomacy these days. How would it have sounded if Christ was reaching out to the pagans during their ritual rites just so as to appear meek like everything is good? More or less like a cosign that they are on the right track, ain't it? So Christ is no longer the Only Way or His gospel has ceased to be about winning lost souls? Jesus was never violent but didn't hold back in calling evil evil and vented His rage when the people in the temple of God went astrayed. I'd have expected the pope to pray for the sinners and hope their hearts get divinely touched so that they can discern between the forces of light and darkness. There's nothing like diplomacy or compromise in spiritual warfare but these people don't just get it or they do but don't wanna make some people feel disgruntled. Smh.when obama, jonathan and other world leaders congratulated islam aftr fasting u didnt say they were economical with d truth or joining hans wit d muslims. pls if u dont like d catholic church then stay on ur own afterall ur not under d pope |
deebrain: the earlier people get to know that pastors are mere humans and should not be looked at as anchors of faith and belief (irrespective of what God expects of them), the better. Who told u that d "good ones" we know of dont have what they are secretly struggling with. Its like people in religion section just like opening threads to look for pastors to backbite about-whereas they (d pastors) dont even know they exist. Meanwhile, let me give u d benefit of doubt. He that is without sin, please cast the first stone on these people. (sits down with his bottle of fruit wine and watches)but the problem is that when it involves a catholic priest, nobody will remember that they are human beings |
the op should modify the topic and say: catholic school sacks teacher for homosexual union in carlifonia |
Hopcy: Did you read d post well at all?what is the difference btw what he said and what was written in d post. He worked in the school for seventeen yrs and was fired only when he married a man friend. that means if he had continued to fear God and married a female, he wont have been fired. so ubenedictus was not wrong but you. |
thank u italo and syncan ur research was right, though he used it as well in Rio |
@profta, ur statement here shows that ur not sincere and that ur only trying to talk against the pope which is not good. this topic have been treated severally so i dont think u have a point here. the pope's interview have been clarrified even for a child to understand. so dont be a trouble maker. |
There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church—which is, of course, quite a different thing. These millions can hardly be blamed for hating Catholics because Catholics “adore statues;” because they “put the Blessed Mother on the same level with God;” because they “say indulgence is a permission to commit sin;” because the Pope “is a Fascist;” because the Church “is the defender of Capitalism.” If the Church taught or believed any one of these things, it should be hated, but the fact is that the Church does not believe nor teach any one of them. It follows then that the hatred of the millions is directed against error and not against truth. As a matter of fact, if we Catholics believed all of the untruths and lies which were said against the Church, we probably would hate the Church a thousand times more than they do. If I were not a Catholic, and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hates. My reason for doing this would be, that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, He must still be hated as He was when He was on earth in the flesh. If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that does not get along with the world. Look for the Church that is hated by the world, as Christ was hated by the world. Look for the Church which is accused of being behind the times, as Our Lord was accused of being ignorant and never having learned. Look for the Church which men sneer at as socially inferior, as they sneered at Our Lord because He came from Nazareth. Look for the Church which is accused of having a devil, as Our Lord was accused of being possessed by Beelzebub, the Prince of Devils. Look for the Church which the world rejects because it claims it is infallible, as Pilate rejected Christ because he called Himself the Truth. Look for the Church which amid the confusion of conflicting opinions, its members love as they love Christ, and respect its voice as the very voice of its Founder, and the suspicion will grow, that if the Church is unpopular with the spirit of the world, then it is unworldly, and if it is unworldly, it is other- worldly. Since it is other-worldly, it is infinitely loved and infinitely hated as was Christ Himself. ... the Catholic Church is the only Church existing today which goes back to the time of Christ. History is so very clear on this point, it is curious how many miss its obviousness..." www.ourcatholicfaith.org |
"We need saints without cassocks, without veils - we need saints with jeans and tennis shoes. We need saints that go to the movies that listen to music, that hang out with their friends. We need saints that place God in first place ahead of succeeding in any career. We need saints that look for time to pray every day and who know how to be in love with purity, chastity and all good things. We need saints - saints for the 21st century with a spirituality appropriate to our new time. We need saints that have a commitment to helping the poor and to make the needed social change. We need saints to live in the world, to sanctify the world and to not be afraid of living in the world by their presence in it. We need saints that drink Coca-Cola, that eat hot dogs, that surf the internet and that listen to their iPods. We need saints that love the Eucharist, that are not afraid or embarrassed to eat a pizza or drink a beer with their friends. We need saints who love the movies, dance, sports, theater. We need saints that are open sociable normal happy companions. We need saints who are in this world and who know how to enjoy the best in this world without being callous or mundane. We need saints." - Pope Francis, World Youth Day 2013 www.ourcatholicfaith.org |
In an interview with a CBS news program, Cardinal Timothy Dolan said that Pope Francis’s recent comments on gay priests do not represent a change in Church teaching on homosexuality. “Pope Francis would be the first to say, my job isn’t to change Church teaching -- my job is to present it as clearly as possible,” said Cardinal Dolan in response to a question from Gayle King. “But you’re onto something, Gayle, when you say it could be a change in tone or emphasis.” He continued: So what have we got? You might say two levels or two points of Church teaching. One would be the immorality, in God’s view, of any sexual expression outside of the relationship between a man and a woman in lifelong, life-giving faithful marriage. That’s one point of Church teaching. The other point of Church teaching is that a person’s identity, respect, the dignity and love that he or she deserves, does not depend on anything, not sexual orientation, how much money we’ve got, if we’ve got a green card or immigration papers, or a stock portfolio. It does not depend on anything other than that we are a child of God made in his image and likeness. “Homosexuality is not a sin, homosexual acts are,” Cardinal Dolan added. “Just like heterosexuality is not a sin, although heterosexual acts outside a marriage, lifelong, life-giving marriage between a man and a woman, that would be sinful.” “A pope couldn’t do that [change that teaching],” he stated. “You see, a pope inherits certain revelation, and it’s his job to guard that and pass that on. That comes not from him, the Church doesn’t make that up. We inherit that from God’s revelation in the Bible, in natural law, so we couldn’t change that if we wanted to.” Cardinal Dolan emphasized that previous popes had a pastoral tone similar to that of Pope Francis. “I think we’ve got a question of emphasis and tone,” he said. “A gentle, merciful, understanding, compassionate tone. That may be something people find new and refreshing. I for one don’t think it is, and I hate to see previous popes caricatured as |

35000tons: Dear Pope, |
35000tons: Dear Pope,my brother, listen and learn you will never have gay people being odained priests or bishops because d former pope benedict have signed it into law: Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. and pope francis is not in support of gay marriage but stating what d church teaches. d gay people are humanbeings and must be respected but d church sympatizes with them in their situation if they were born that way which we believe is a disorder |
NB:for those who will come here and say dat d pope is in support of gay marriage. NO, d pope was talking about gay priests or gay people who are not sexually active and seeks d face of God. dat was d question asked. his reply was dat he has no right to judge anybody who confesses his sins to God since He will always forgive |
Pope Francis has had a busy week at World Youth Day in Rio as he visited his slums and prisons, blessed the Olympic flag and brought three million people to Copacabana Beach for a final Mass on Sunday morning. Now he has made another headline, this time when the pontiff said, "Who am I to judge a gay person?" While taking questions from reporters on the plane back to Rome, Francis spoke about gays and the reported "gay lobby." According to the Wall Street Journal, the Pope's comments about homosexuality came in the context of a question about gay priests. The pontiff broached the delicate question of how he would respond to learning that a cleric in his ranks was gay, though not sexually active. For decades, the Vatican has regarded homosexuality as a "disorder," and Pope Francis' predecessor Pope Benedict XVI formally barred men with what the Vatican deemed "deep-seated" homosexuality from entering the priesthood. "Who am I to judge a gay person of goodwill who seeks the Lord?" the pontiff said, speaking in Italian. "You can't marginalize these people." John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter reported on the meeting as well and said the Pope also addressed the question of the Vatican's reported "gay lobby". He hasn’t run into significant resistance to reform inside the Vatican, and joked that if there really is a “gay lobby” he hasn’t yet seen it stamped on anyone’s ID cards. Father James Martin, S.J. who is an admirer of Francis, said that the pontiff's comment about gay people is consistent with the rest of his papacy. "One of Francis's hallmarks is an emphasis on mercy, which you see in that response. That mercy, of course, comes from Jesus. And we can never have too much of it." The pope did not offer much hope for those advocating for women Catholic priests, according to Allen at NCR, saying: Pope John Paul II “definitively … closed the door' to women priests. More from the Associated Press: ABOARD THE PAPAL AIRCRAFT — Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip. "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked. His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten. Francis' remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil. He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn't dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian newsmagazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst. Francis said he investigated and found nothing to back up the allegations. Francis was asked about Italian media reports suggesting that a group within the church tried to blackmail fellow church officials with evidence of their homosexual activities. Italian media reported this year that the allegations contributed to Benedict's decision to resign While stressing Catholic social teaching that calls for homosexuals to be treated with dignity and not marginalized, Francis said it was something else entirely to conspire to use private information for blackmail or to exert pressure. Francis was responding to reports that a trusted aide was involved in an alleged gay tryst a decade ago. He said he investigated the allegations according to canon law and found nothing to back them up. But he took journalists to task for reporting on the matter, saying the allegations concerned matters of sin, not crimes like sexually abusing children. And when someone sins and confesses, he said, God not only forgives but forgets. "We don't have the right to not forget," he said. |

Theblessed: [b][size=16pt]You too, still haven't got it - have you?pls if u dont undestand this doctrine just keep quiet and listen to others b4 writing. every priest has a confessor likewise d pope. dats d humility in d whole thing. d popes confesor is a priest too. even if as some people suggest that d bible said dat we should confess to one another is true, does d church not have d right to restrict it to priests to guard against d abuse? rmemba dat a priet cannot reveal ur sins to anoda in any circumstance. back to d topic, indulgence is not forgiveness of sin and confesson cannot be done through d net because its not safe. d blessings of d pope in brazil wil forgive d punishment due to d sins u have been forgiven at confession and even in ur individual prayer but dis must come from following d programe prayerfully. so tel me whats d difficult thing to understand here? |
In its latest attempt to keep up with the times the Vatican has married one of its oldest traditions to the world of social media by offering "indulgences" to followers of Pope Francis' tweets. The church's granted indulgences reduce the time Catholics believe they will have to spend in purgatory after they have confessed and been absolved of their sins. The remissions got a bad name in the Middle Ages because unscrupulous churchmen sold them for large sums of money. But now indulgences are being applied to the 21st century. But a senior Vatican official warned web-surfing Catholics that indulgences still required a dose of old-fashioned faith, and that paradise was not just a few mouse clicks away. "You can't obtain indulgences like getting a coffee from a vending machine," Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, head of the pontifical council for social communication, told the Italian daily Corriere della Sera. Indulgences these days are granted to those who carry out certain tasks – such as climbing the Sacred Steps, in Rome (reportedly brought from Pontius Pilate's house after Jesus scaled them before his crucifixion), a feat that earns believers seven years off purgatory. But attendance at events such as the Catholic World Youth Day, in Rio de Janeiro, a week-long event starting on 22 July, can also win an indulgence. Mindful of the faithful who cannot afford to fly to Brazil, the Vatican's sacred apostolic penitentiary, a court which handles the forgiveness of sins, has also extended the privilege to those following the "rites and pious exercises" of the event on television, radio and through social media. "That includes following Twitter," said a source at the penitentiary, referring to Pope Francis' Twitter account, which has gathered seven million followers. "But you must be following the events live. It is not as if you can get an indulgence by chatting on the internet." In its decree, the penitentiary said that getting an indulgence would hinge on the beneficiary having previously confessed and being "truly penitent and contrite". Praying while following events in Rio online would need to be carried out with "requisite devotion", it suggested. Apart from the papal Twitter account, the Vatican has launched an online news portal supported by an app, a Facebook page, and it plans to use the online social networking site Pinterest. "What really counts is that the tweets the Pope sends from Brazil or the photos of the Catholic World Youth Day that go up on Pinterest produce authentic spiritual fruit in the hearts of everyone," said Celli. pls moderator, this is the correct report, not the one already on the front page. www.theguardian.co.uk |
