Jonathan To Travel With 200 People To G8 Summit In Canada When Nigeria president, Goodluck Jonathan, leaves for the G8 summit in Canada next week, which Nigeria is attending as an observer, he will be accompanied by a bewildering crowd of about 200 people. Nigerian presidency sources have confirmed that the Jonathan government has already requested visas for the first batch of 150 people. In addition to that number, the sources in Abuja have told Saharareporters that as many as 50 additional names will still be forwarded to the embassy for visas. These unprecedented numbers mean that Nigeria's delegation to the event, which is taking place in Muskoka, Canada, will surpass those of the six other African countries combined. Nigeria will also set a scandalous record as the largest observer delegation in G8 history. The G8 leaders invited seven African countries: Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa, to attend a special session at the summit as observers. Jonathan is fresh off a trip to South Africa where, in another huge waste of public resources, 64 Nigerian senators, State Governors and a large entourage accompanied him to watch a World Cup soccer match in South Africa. Saharareporters has also learnt that yet another huge delegation will follow Jonathan to the UK when he travels there on a similar junket Read More: http://saharareporters.com/real-news/sr-headlines/6267-jonathan-to-travel-with-200-people-to-g8-summit-in-canada.html |
PDP Bans Nnamani’s Reform Group he National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party yesterday in Abuja nailed the coffin on the Senator Ken Nnamani-led PDP Reform Group by imposing an immediate ban on the group and its activities. By another resolution reached at the meeting, former Bayelsa State governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was readmitted into the party, five years after he was expelled by the NEC.Nnamani, a former senate president, as well as many members of the group were not in attendance at yesterday’s meeting where the resolution was taken. Members of the group had earlier been suspended by the National Working Committee of the party, but the decision was rescinded following the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan. The decision to ban the group at the meeting was taken after former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari, a key member of the group, “could not seize the moment to profoundly articulate the group’s proposals for reform.” Sources said, Masari, rather than address the issues, went personal, “accusing the party and its leadership of showing hatred towards the group and its members. Pdp Readmits Alamesiegha Barely 24 hours after the new chairman of the party is sworn in, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the PDP on Friday announced the readmittance of former Bayelsa governor, Diepreye Alamesiegha. A statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Rufai Alkali, said Alamesiegha had written the NEC on his intention to return to the party. He said the 51st NEC meeting considered Alamesiegha’s application for readmittance based on his fulfilment of Article 10 (iii) of the party’s constitution. The section states that any party member who has been suspended can be readmitted if he applies for reconsideration. Mr Alamesiegha was expelled in 2005 when he was charged with money laundering. He was arrested while on a visit to Britain on September 15, 2005, an act which was then described as an assault on the integrity of the party. However, the statement did not state when and if he had applied for readmittance. Read More: http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5582480-146/pdp_readmits_alamesiegha___.csp |
New INEC Commissioners: Jega only non-PDP nominee, CNPP Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, said yesterday that except Professor Attahiru Jega, all the new commissioners nominated in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are either members or supporters of ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The umbrella body of the registered political parties, while reacting to the President Goodluck Jonathan’s intention to withdraw PDP members from the electoral body, insisted that Jonathan must accept the Justice Uwais report as guiding principle if he wants to make any meaningful effort at creating a truly electoral body. CNPP, which made the remarks in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Osita Okechukwu in Abuja, advised that the only solution is for President Jonathan to urgently submit the three Bills therein in the Uwais Report, as Executive Bills for genuine First Amendment by the National and State Assemblies; rather than the tepid and self glorification document in circulation. Series of allegation against the speaker, Demeji Bankole keeps popping up, and has much as it looks like the House of Rep is not significant it is as a result of the leadership of Mr. Bankole. The only encounter i have had with this speaker was when his entourage put fear in everyone on the road so that our "leader"could pass. Please post your opinion about Mr.Speaker maybe we can get him to change or have him replaced with someone capable of initiating bills that will improve the lives of Nigerians rather than status quo |
