TravelRe: DV 2014 Winners Meet Here by lagdude: 3:50pm On Dec 03, 2013
Darhmee: Hi guys.. so here was how it started.. I did the visa lottery for myself as the principal and my mom as the principal back then. So when my mom won, the only the only thing i have was the confirmation number.. i wasnt sure if i registered my dad and my siblings with her but with faith, we continued the processing. My dad didn't want to go with us because he has businesses he is running here in NIgeria and also, my older brother is over-aged. So, i and my mom decided to do the processing for just the both of us.
However, because of the rareness of our case, people said we will be turned down, they said we will be rejected bla bla but i and mom paid them no listening ears.. That really helped!

So today, our interview was for 7am, we got there 5:45am, and at about 6:15, we were told to line up, we did security checks, people's powder, phones, sharp objects, liquid, charger, containers were disposed..(please do not bring any of these with u to the embassy, its an lot of trouble finding how to dispose them).

So at about 8am, we were inside the hall, my mom paid for the both of us and when it was time for submission of document, the woman in charge told my mom to go out and take another passport photograph because the one she has with her was with a blue background. So my mom went out and the cheapest rate she could find for 6 passport photograph was N2000!! Can u imagine?!.

So she brought the passport and while we were submitting our document, the woman asked why my dad wasnt included in the first submission and my mom said it was because he wasn't interested, the woman shook her head! Right there, i had thought we would be rejected.

So at about 10:15, our number beeped on window 17.. the CO was a beautiful and young black American
She told us to swear, took our fingerprints and then the conversation below ensued
CO: what is ur name ma'am
My Mom: xxxx
CO: Did u fill the lottery form urself
MM: Yes
CO: So why is ur sister here with you:
MM: She is not my sister, she is my daughter ((we both laughed)
CO: OMG.. Im so sorry.. Wow madam.. u look so young and she is gorgeous
MM and I: Thank you, u look beautiful too
CO:. Who is philip and why is he not going with u
MM.. he is my husband and bla bla
CO: what is your highest level of education
MM.. bla bla
So she excused herself for a minute, came back, typed some things into the computer, gave us 2 sheets of paper.. (i was already jumping by then lol). She then said, your visa has been approved, pick up this this this that.. i wasnt listening anymore cheesy

So guys im not gonna lie to you, i and my mom prayed and fasted for days before attending that interview.. we even went to a 7 nights vigil that ended last SUnday.. If not for prayers and God's favour, we wopuld have been denied. Please lets prepare ourselves and pray to the God/gods we believe in.

I thank every member of this page.. i dont want to mention names cos i appreciate you ALL.. God bless and i wish the people who are yet to go for their interview SUCCESS SUCESS SUCESS..

Cheers!

PS: Malcom 28 and ayodim.. big congrats to your family.. we were at the embassy the same time, can you describe yourselves? i was the lady with the cream blazer and my mom is the one with the african fabric jacket smiley
Congratulations

The only thing you can do now is to let them know the importance of it to you,i think begging will solve half of it but Nigerian way of settling civil servant will be most ideally now, wish you best of luck.

kevwe_flex: In addition to other contributions which may be above, If you are outside the U.S. for more than 12 months, you will need to show additional documentation to re-enter the U.S. as a permanent resident. Permanent residents who leave the United States for extended periods, or who cannot show their intent to live permanently in the U.S., may lose their permanent resident status. Many immigrants believe they can live
abroad as long as they return to the U.S. at least once a year. This is incorrect. If you think you will be out of the U.S. for more than 12 months, you should apply for a re-entry permit before leaving the country. You should file Form I-131, Application for a Travel Document. You
can get this form at http://www.uscis.gov or by calling the USCIS Forms Line at 1-800-870-3676. You must pay a fee to file Form I-131.
A re-entry permit is valid for up to two years. You may show the re-entry permit, instead of a visa or your Permanent Resident Card, at a port of entry. Having a re-entry permit does not guarantee that you will be admitted to the United States when you return, but it can make it easier to show that you are returning from a temporary visit abroad. Visit http://www.state.gov or your nearest Department of State Consular Office overseas for more information.

@Komakan, here is an answer from Visa Officer on a thread on nairaland to you question.
Greetings! If the DV winner follows that pattern of behavior for too long, eventually s/he will lose his Legal Permanent Resident status.

Any LPR who remains outside the U.S. for more than a year will lose LPR status, and may not get it back.

Any LPR who's been outside the U.S. for less than a year may be denied entry at the border, even if s/he has a valid travel document, Having a visa or LPR card just allows a person to travel to the U.S.; s/he still has to convince Customs & Border Patrol (CBP) to let him/her in. CBP has much more freedom than (for instance) I do to just say no to people. Green cards are for people who intend to reside in the U.S., not for people who intend to visit once a year.

Hope this helps!

TravelRe: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by lagdude: 3:09pm On Oct 29, 2013
VisaOfficer: Diversity Visas are good for six months (unless there's a reason to limit them, which happens very rarely and is usually related to the expiration date om the medical paperwork). It's best to use them while they're valid; to get a new Diversity Visa, you have to pay the fees again, get new meds, etc. And if you wait until after Sept. 30, we can't reissue them anyway. No visas for the 2014 DV season can be issued after September 30, 2014.
Thanks for your response V.O,but you are yet to help with the 2nd question that is on a general visa issued by your consulate, want to know the exact expiration month of the visa if it is 6months and issued on say 29th October,2013.please dont get crossed with my question just arguing with someone and need to get the real fact.
