TravelRe: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by lagdude: 2:32pm On Feb 19, 2022
Hello, I need help or any ideas on this peculiar case. My mom is eligible for IW and she needs someone to accompany her as she is not able to communicate and is old. I want my sister to accompany her but she is not eligible for IW as she has never applied for visa before. I have submitted both their D160 forms, paid visa fee but don't know how to go about scheduling my sister's interview since she is not qualified for IW. Can I submit them both for IW backing it up with medical necessity and accompanying an old woman. Will they allow that? Please, I am at a crossroad and booking an interview is far from it cos the date I see is 2023 July. Looking for something closer, she needs to come for medical attention.

Hello AbujaNIV,
Thank you so much for the good work you doing on here, please I will like you to help address this issue, just curious as to what might gone wrong for it to happen.
I have a friend that was granted visa but before she collected her visa on December 22nd,she was placed on AP for about 2weeks. She eventually traveled out of the country on Tuesday,January 17 and she was deported through the same airline she flew from the country but on getting to Doha where they have like 7hours lay over she was incarcerated for the period of the lay over and on getting to Lagos, she was asked to wait till everyone on the airline was down before she could and she was handed over to the police and immigration.
Just been curious if that's the deportation procedure of US or something. Thanks

abujaniv:
After visa refusals, the consular officer gives each applicant a letter explaining the reason why the applicant was refused. Your brother can look on the letter to find the exact section of U.S. law used to refuse his case. We do not know about this specific case, but if your brother has interest in going to the U.S., he is welcome to reapply and present his case before a consular officer.
Hi VO,thank you so much for the good work you doing right here.
Will it be advisable for me to book an appointment for visa interview in 1st week in December for a programme in the US that is scheduled for June 2015.
Thank you VO,awaiting your response.

The making of our America Project:
It all started on October 23, 2012 when the four of us in the family as of then, entered for the lottery.
I checked mine on May 1, 2013 and was not selected, and then on May 4th, I checked my lovely First Lady’s status and discovered we have been selected for further processing.
At this point, we had no idea of the processes; hence, I started searching Google for resources and later found NAIRALAND 2013 & 2014 threads, which signified the new era.
Twice in that Month of May, I mailed KCC, requesting for additional information and medium of submission of our documents, they replied that both hard and soft copy are acceptable (detail posted sometime ago in one of my responses)
On July 4, 2013, we finally sent our forms via e-mail to kccdv@state.gov (note that we updated twice after this). We were current in November’s bulletin for interview on December 23, 2013 for 7am.
We received our 2nd NL on October 18, a day after birth of our new baby-Princess. We notified the embassy and invited them for naming, to my greatest surprise, replies received in both my mail and VO’s thread were word for words, then the waiting game continues as I always pray for easiest interview which came to pass on the 23rd.

Documentations:
I practiced what I always advice on the thread, we secured all documents before October, except for the new baby that was done after her birth in that month. Medicals and Police Certificate (#2500) were done on December 12th, this enable us to relax a bit.

The ‘D’ Day.
We lodged in a 20minutes drive location close to the embassy, got to the embassy around 5:40am.
Did all necessary security check as you are all aware of, paid the total sum of #272,500.00 being processing fee.
Window 17 called for documentations, to my surprise, the woman seeing us for the first time just asked a familiar question which Looks like those people are spy on NL (can’t ascertain though,so don’t quote me)
Then around 9am, the white Lady called us at window 14 for the real thing
CO: Good morning ma’am
We: Good morning and how was your night?
Co: very ….., thank you
We: Merry Xmas and she responded as well
Then Finger prints for both of us.
CO: raise your right hand and …………(swearing)
We: we do
After this, I lifted my first son (whose name is of one of America president’s name, to say Good morning to her) she called his name, and the laughing began, then the second son did the same and I was joking with her that, the new baby want to say Hi too, then laugh again.
CO: turned to my wife and asked, what’s your highest qualification?
My first Lady: AAAAAAA
CO: when did u finished
My first Lady: AAAAAAA
CO: She’s typing and was explaining that she think my wifey does not performed to her best in her first result, that’s why she submitted the second one
My first Lady: Yes
Me: I said ‘As if you know’ and she laughs again.
While I was trying to carry my children, who are playing around, she said your VISA is approved smiling and the rest of pick up infos. & we say thank you and God bless America
That’s it oooooooooooooooooooo, it was just like a chat

Till now, we are still thanking GOD
Biggest Congratulations to you and your family,it can only be Almighty God not man,i wish you success in all your future endeavour both in Naija and in God's own country,go forth and leave your Yankee dream

walcolm: MTN bis doesn't work on BlackBerry 10 devices. You have to get the MTN bb10 data...although there's talk in a post today that MTN bis is now working

So that explains why you ran into that problem
Thanks boss,am not even bother with the BIS subscription but for the phone to work,it's on the agreement page I am and without accepting it won't go to the next Page. What do you advice me to do?

Thanks
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by lagdude: 5:57pm On Dec 22, 2013
walcolm: the sim you are using to activate needs to have active data subscription...if you are using glo, the default apn works out of the box so long as you have an active bis subscription...APN tweak on airtel on the other hand can only happen after you have completed activation of the phone so even when you have a BIS subscription on the airtel loine, the phone will not be able to use that data because the default apn is not the right one for BB10

confirm which network you tried to use to activate the Q5
Thanks boss,it's my mtn and I have valid bis subscription on it.

Really appreciate your swift response.

co: what have you being doing since you finish your school?

me: still seeking for admission

co: its over seven years you got this certificate

co: do you have children?

me: no, I'm single

co: what have you been doing for living

me: driving

co: Government, Commercial or Private?

adeadebayor: 3 Gbosa for the people of this forum..... My appreciation goes to everybody on this forum, u guys re doing a wonderful job.

The whole thing was just like a dream because I hv been playing DV lottery for a while now...my broda it don tey, wot gave me confidence to go on was dat 2 of my friends dat we used to stay together won n now live in us ...When God says yes nobody can say no.

In 2012, I played for mysef and wife, at dat tym we re looking up to God for a child. To cut d long story short, when d result came out in may, 2013 my wife was already 6 months pregnant. I checked mine...same story but when checked my wife's result i saw a different page then i realised she has won.

We filled and submit our forms by email on June 15th and got our 2nd notification October 22nd. All documents ready December 3rd and countdown to interview begins. I used d remaining days to prepare my wife cos she is d principal applicant, in fact it was a drill.

Interview day: We got to d embassy 5.30am our appointment was 7am, by some minutes after 6am security checking started, security checking plenty o. We were checked in and we collected blue card and payment voucher and I paid for 3 pple, @ d rate of 165 to a dollar, including my boy of 3.5 months.

After which we were called at window 21 to submit our document and waiting for interview starts, during this tym my boy was in happi mood laughing in loud voice then slept off. At 10.10am we were called to window 17 where we met dis young beautiful black America.

The interview goes thus:
CO: raise your right hand, are you prepare to say the truth today?

We: we ans yes together. The CO gave us our forms to sign and my wife sign for the baby

CO: What re u doing presently?
Wife: bla bla
CO: what course
Wife: bla bla
CO: mention some of the courses u offer
Wife: bla bla
CO: hw long hv pple known each other
We: bla bla
CO: when did u get married
We: bla bla
CO: what kind of marriage
Wife: bla bla
CO: show me pix
We: wife opening wedding album
CO: any before pix
Wife: shown three and even explain
CO: baby pix
wife: wife flip through christening album.
CO: bring out two white papers, one for visa collection and d other for guidelines to pay ucis fee.

The interview didnt last more than 10mins..in fact we re the first family to b granted visa.

Observations:
1- ur interview wil b based on what u filled in ur forms. for those of yet to submit ur forms, fill it carefully wit info u can defend. dont put anything u cant defend in d name of impressing the interviewer. They re nt after such. like the case of my wife, we didnt include her nd because her statement of result is not available.
2- get there before tym and adhere to all instructions.

This goes to those that hv done their interview. How do I get d alien number?
Congrtaulations

Obatide: I came across these tips for succesful interview and feel it could help some of us,
kindly discuss to have it edited, addition or subtraction

Tips for interview
1. Wear formal clothes as if for a formal business meeting. The interviewing officer will always be an American (the interpreter if required may be local). If possible the man should wear a tie. Americans always appreciate formal attire, so they will not find you over-dressed if you wear a tie.
2. Arrive early. You don't want to miss your interview just because you got stuck in traffic.
3. Do not get nervous. Be confident. You will be more confident if you have prepared thoroughly. Smile when you meet the visa officer for the first time. Don't show signs of nervousness such as flickering of eyes, trembling of fingers as that could go against you. Look into the eyes of the officer while speaking.
4. Both candidates should greet the officer with a smile and a "good morning", as soon as you enter the interview booth.
5. Both candidates should have a confident posture and look at the interviewing officer straight in the eyes throughout the interview.
6. Be confident in your answers, whatever you say. Make short, clear, to-the-point replies, in a loud and clear voice. Do not tell anything that is irrelevant or not asked. By mistake, you may give some unnecessary information that may lead to your rejection.
7. Be polite, do not argue and do not ask unnecessary or unrelated questions. Do not unnecessarily elaborate your responses as this may not work in your favor.
8. Demonstrate respect in your language even if you don't feel this is being reciprocated.
9. Often times you might not understand what the interviewing officer is saying because of his/her American accent and/or the microphone system. If you do not understand one of their sentences do not feel afraid to say, 'beg your pardon; I did not understand you.' If he/she repeats the question and you still do not understand, that is not a problem, do not panic. Calmly and confidently say, sorry sir/madam. I still did not understand you. Could you kindly repeat what you said?
10. If you know English, it is preferable to have the interview in the English so that you and consular officer can understand the each other. Interpreters mess up sometimes.

Wishing everybody due for interview all the best
You are on point boss, thanks for the reminder always.

Malcolm28: Good day Forumites, please permit me to give a detailed account of my experience at the embassy during my interview on 3rd December. Been very busy on some other issues that why its coming a bit late.
We left the place we were staying at Anthony Village at 4:30 am to avoid the morning traffic to the Island. We actually got up at 3:00am to get the kids ready. Arrived the embassy at about 4:55am. There were like 5 other persons waiting. My Mother-In-Law drove us there so she had to look for a place to park and was directed to a parking lot that can be accessed by car only through Obalende (but open to the embassy by foot, so people can park there and have close proximity to the embassy surrounding).
While waiting, around 5:30 my wife and mother-in-law retreated to the car to feed the children again so they don't get cranky when the process begins.
We were called to move out and join the queue for screening at 6am.
After the 1st screening where they make sure you don't have phones on you, etc, We were made to all pile around the 2nd point where a lady came to address us stating the 2 broad visa categories and how the process will run. We were at this point separated into Immigrant and Non-Immigrant categories. She also talked about timing of our interview etc. We were then told to bring our interview notification letters and open our medicals at this point and fix in our passports which we all did. There were repeated warning about what must not be found on us. My wife explained to them about items for the kids but they would not bulge. They insisted that we can only take in biscuit for the kids. My wife had to go out of the time 2 times to return items to my Mother-In-Law who was waiting in her car at the parking lot.
We eventually went through the 2nd Screening were the bags and everything was thoroughly checked. We were then issued blue slips, a small form to fill in your name and address, email and telephone #, we were also given a sheet payment (Please ensure you keep every sheet given to you so as not to have issues when they are demanded).
We went through a 3rd screening again after which we were ushered into the main embassy building. We were asked to remove our belt, shoes and our bags were again screened at this point before we were allowed into the interview hall after picking a slip that gave us our number for the day (B415).
On getting into the hall, the security man asked what Visa category we were for, and told us where to sit and where we would make the payments, Immediately my family found a place to sit, I proceeded and made payments (N218,000) for 4 of us (at rate of 165/$).
Immediately I was done paying the fees, my number blinked in window 14. I was asked to come for submission of documents. That lasted for about 5 minutes, the guy would asked for one document after the other, I would produce them and give him, he would ask for duplicates I would give him, friendly black guy. After that process, I went back to sit. My daughter was all over the place, walking and playing. my wife held my Son do there wasn't any issues. Many Children were crying, tried to help one Women whose Son was crying profusely but to no avail.
For a while there wasn't any activity at the windows, (they were probably reviewing the documents we submitted).
At about 8:30, the interview process began at window 14 where an old woman was interviewed and placed on administrative processing because she couldn't provide some details to the CO even with the help of a Yoruba interviewer. I thought I was gonna be interviewed at this window since my documents were collected here. The man at Window 16 was also there and interviewed a pregnant lady who I think filled to go an unit with her husband. It took a while for the process to be over and I could remember the scare of window 16 and was wishing that my interview did not take place there. Shortly after the lady left, my number appeared at window 16 and my wife called my attention to it.
Went there with my whole family, my daughter was sleeping at this time so I had to pick here while clutching the documents too.
The process process went thus:
CO: Are to XYZ (pointing to each of us)
We: Yes
CO: Asked me to raise my hand a swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth
Me: I did
CO: Asked to take our finger prints (me and wife)
We: We did (left hand, right hand (4 fingers) and then both thumb
CO: Gave us our forms to sign (asked that one of us sign for the children on yellow marking)
We: Did that
CO: Asked when we got married
We: Both me and wife responded in unison
CO: Asked me have I been married before this marriage
Me: No
CO: Any Children apart from this 2
Me: No
Co: whats your highest qualification?
Me: 2 Masters Degree
CO: I can see the MBA is the most recent. When did conclude the course
Me: Told him when I completed the program and submitted project
CO: Tell me about you project
Me: Told him about the project and the major findings
CO: He was nodding and smiling and very happy with my analysis of the project and the findings
CO: Brought out 2 sheets and tells us this is where you will be collecting your visa on Tuesday next week. Tells me to not bother coming with my family to collect the visa. Also suggested I nominate someone to pick up the Visas for me since I don't live in Lagos. Then said congratulations.
Me: Was kinda taken aback! Thanks him and leaves
As we were about to exit, I heard my name. Turned around to window 16 and the CO motioned to me
Went back.
CO: Please can I have the receipts of visa fees payment?
Me. Reached into my pocket and gave him the receipts. He collects one and gives me the other
Me: I tell him I almost forgot to update my details on the place of residence when I enter the US. I then hand him a sheet of paper containing the address. He promises to update the info for me.
The whole interview process lasted for about 3 minutes.
We then walked out of the embassy.
It can only be God! The process was swift just like I had prayed to God it would be. And the fact that it was window 16! The dreaded window 16? God works in awesome ways.
For those waiting for their interview or awaiting 2NL, God will do it.
