right on the money, also add this one, (only recently started to see the benefit) 1: Make a case study on projects/clients/solutions you have delivered so similar clients can relate with their own need (sort of like making a gallery of websites you have built) |
I think you should study a course related to IT, it helps a lot when you go job hunting. i have a degree in Business Administration, but work as a programmer/developer/network dude/trainer/web-man/consultant. i always get the default stereotyped resistance from clients and prospects as to whether i am capable of delivering, not having "degreed" in the field. but it is not all about learning and academics. in the real world, it is all about delivery |
Hmmm. I am truly sorry to say this, but this sucks mega ass. why are we talking about where our president should come from, personally i do not care i f he comes from mongolia bearing polka-dot pants. We should be thinking of what value and what vision our future leaders can deliver rather than if he is a mallam or Nna boy or some stupid waffi or OPC/Area boy, I truly from the bottom of my heart wish our leaders from pre-civil war to date to die in their sleep. or from extreme pain. yes there have been changes, are we to be happy that the reforms are actually happening, it is like showing happiness when a Father feeds his child, is that not what he is suppossed to do? We are in some blissful euphoria filled with complete ignorance of reality. the major problem is the division our leaders from the president down to the stupid village chief put in our midst that cause posts liek "let him come from the North, Let him conme from the south, we have been deprived of resources that should be ours, we are bleeding Nigerians for Pete's sake, we are fighting each other b'cos some friggin bastich Awoist of Arewa zealot or Bakassi idiots, want to achieve political dictatorship for the rest of this pitiful country's life. Let Mallam Nuhu Ribadu become the president and Okonjo Iweala his Vice, Let us try to get people who can deliver results not votes that mean nothing after the elections, When Femi Pedro of Lagos state was elected Deputy, he threw a party that blocked the only entrance into the estate and left hundreds of residents stranded till early hours of dawn, the usual stupid society crowd said we should wait our turn so we can throw parties like that, that is the sort of leader we are all talking about in this forum, had i no other cause in life, i shall become a terrorist and wipe these ungrateful sluts of the face of this earth. |
Please, this post is really raking my back soo much i am bleeding, Nollywood is home-video as in one-man witha camera running after the cast with a corny script in hand. The best i have seen so far in terms of plot, cast and originality happened to come from the past 1: Two of Herbert Ogunde's 2: Obalende 3: Things Fall Apart 4: (i forgot the title but you could tell so much work went into it and it - in year 2000.) Anyway, you could chalk-up a whole semester analyzing Nollywood. the sum of the equation is simple, We do not have movie producers or film-makers, we have movie enthusiasts who have steadily matured into "EPIC" making producers, tehehe . if only they could invest in some theater education and real movie academies, we can stand toe-to-toe with Hollywood, but no, no , no, we would rather go to Uganda with a stupid script that focuses on Uganda's exotic locations and ibo-flute music. (They aim to beat Totsi come next awards).I rest my case, if only the Zeb Ejiros would do their jobs well |
Hell yea!!! (Heaven forbid), if i did nto just see teh same idea for the World Cup on CNN i had forgotten all about this post. are you still on this idea, it reeks of monies, plenty of smooth, clean cash, let us talk. I am into web applications pm me |
tsk tsk, my fault, i used the wrong ICRA label (t'was one for another site) and IE recognized. Thanks all |
tehehe it is typical african mentality, if we no critisize ourself before we chop banana, the white man will call us monkeys and we will concur. If we no yab the guy, you go hear am for BBC typical british-style. "It would seem, the promising star of the under 17 world cup has not found his feet in chelsea's mdi-field, What on earth was he thinking" after which our local commentators at Brilla FM will promptly concur |
hmmn vibration and resonance, i heard from somewhere that the felling of the Walls of Jericho was no Miracle, the soldiers trumpeting and marching in unison caused some vibration/resonance thingy-whatsit to crumble the walls of Jericho at its weakeast point, if na true, this surely changes the rules of war |
Need clarification on "Privacy Policy" from my understanding it is a statement that says, thsi is how we collect your information on our site and this is how we use it,if you are in doubt or do not like it. then here is what to do or try another site (or something on that line." ![]() I have hardly bothered to write up Privacy Policies and most Naija sites do not really care or are too busy to write up an appropriate one for their site. I recently upgraded my IE browser to IE7 and when i visited a site i had was working on, (to see if it looked any different) I noticed the Privacy "Eye" icon with a STOP sign bottom right of the screen. here is what it looked like I have stopped using cookies as a matter of policy and i take care to include an ICRA pics label at the meta of my pages to avoid this sort of thing happening Can anyone upgrade my brain to understand what is happening , Do i have to actually write a Privacy Statement that adheres to some standard or is it IE that is causing this?

I am not an engineer or a bridge construction expert, but i asked the same question and got blasted for not knowing (after having graduated from the university), All bridges vibrate (enough to felt and actually seen) it is in the design, because bridges over water are constantly moved by waves and underground land movement, it is critical that they be strong and at the same time flexible, that is why the joints are there, to allow for some adjustment when this movement occurs. If the latitude of the movement is too small it will break and collapse (remember fela, water, e no get enemy, water no get enemy) that is all |
Sony Music defaced site, http://sonymusic.it/index.php Source of the Story http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/Ou/?p=239 Just sounding a silent alarm to Naija Webmasters, it is not a problem specific to Godaddy alone. I have found the following webhosts to have fallen to similar design flaws that allow webpages defacement www.readyhosting.com www.isqsolutions.com www.pronethosting.com www.networksolutions.com - domain hijack (last exploit 2004 *fixed* not published) www.myhosting.com These ones i know because i use them (I am sure other webhosts have similar flaws) Weaknesses. 1: All the webhosts above use a naming convention for their clients webhost space example CNN would be \\hostserver\planB\CNN\www or \db or \database for storing databases 2: Most have at least a url based "action" link that basically opens up another page (displaying account profile name, passwords, emails etc) 3: They also have the "ever-living" cgi-bin directory that allows you to run self-made hacker programs that lists all programs or users directories on the web server, as well as edit / delete and deface pages in those directories, if you are good with VB (i mean very nasty-good) you can do a lot of damage to websites hosted on servers that give you a cgi-bin directory. Note, you do not need to hack the webhost to do this, just register for a web account. |
I see anotehr Anelka in over the horizon, fading away unfortunately, Mikel cannot possibly hope to see the grass more than 5 times each season, before he is loaned off to a Quatari club, then off to the JLeague or worse, back in Nigeria for Kogi United |
I hope soon, because the population of cybercafe Frontpage webmasters (Dreamweaver is still overkill in their ticker-tape brains) has grown tremendously since several 419 bank websites successfully fell many a mugu of late. Now they are transfering their skills to Corporate nigeria. armed with TV-style flash pages and whiz-bangs (I am sure those things are hypnotic) they have edged reason over the cliff in the minds of "educated" business executives. It is now a branding thing for most people. so lately, they do not charge cheap, they call rocket-prices like 3 million naira and probably get 2.5million and deliver the cheap facade as usual. No amount of logic and standards-aligned argument will get web contracts from companies in the money band between MTN and Mr Biggs. they are simply out to look good and if it means fireworks and anything to catch attention, so be it I am seriously tempted to do the same and grab the money, you would not believe what a "webmaster" got for designing kakawa.com (not the current one), and all he had to do was pout "portals and paradigm shifts" with a flash demo in hand, and our proposal was out the window. 2 yrs later, the post-hypnotic suggestion wore off. I think i should start writing a column on raising the standards of web dev in Nigeria, what d'ya think |
hmmn, I have absolutely nothing to say about your site, infact I am demanding you stop building sites that look good. ![]() I am contacting my ISP earliest to block all traffic coming from PH (I hope you are in PH). How can you be encroaching on my market from lands afar-away. a potential client looked at it and asked if i did it. (yes, i did, over the weekend, I replied, "good, looks good." ![]() One thing i did find upsetting is the pixel-size font you used on some sections, I cannot enlarge them using the browser's font settings. Maybe u should provide a tool to swap between three font sizes using CSS. besides that, don't let me see you in Lagos ohh. (client-grabber) |
I do not think I am old enough to be outgoing in any sphere of life. If I remember correctly Justice Muhammad Uwais has always been a justice since the day I was born, he should thank Allah he was not struck down by some incurable disease for spending his entire lifetime without impacting anything he can point a finger at. (Honestly what has he done outside his territory?) Every time I hear gossips (that is what I call it) as this. I remember it is near-time for elections, those bastards in Diaspora and political exile will come up with chicken-scratch-manifestos about why they want to be this and that, and we start seeing how much lobbying money can go around. Hmmm, on this naija forum alone, I can swear my docile life that there are more than enough brains/talent/will/good nature to magically pull this our cripple, Hippopotamus-Flying elephant from the putrid swamps of suicidal ignorance and stupidity. The problems continually burdening this nation has nothing to do with its out-and-out over-zealous leaders (religious and political) or its poorly-purposed ethnic clubs (Afenifere, Odua, OPC, Arewa and so forth), or its overly charismatic amazon.com juju pastors and child-molesting; beer-drinking imans; neither does it have anything to do with corruption (for lack of a better; more appropriate word), it definitely has nothing to do with MEND and the Niger Delta Question or even Oil. (After all, we are not the only ones with oil). Finally, it has nothing to do with our Nobel prize-winning braniacs whose contribution to life in naija is one sagely sentence to show opposition. (Una go die this year insha Allah) Je**#z Fu$^kng-Age. Ch*$st it has nothing to do with the West and their capitalists reforms and economic-enslavement policies. (Everybody must survive; too bad you are the one with the poor comparative advantage) In every month (I swear) I meet more than 3 different persons (accidentally) I could have sworn can individually impact on this country's progress, but sadly, they are in such a poor position, to begin to think of how they can best position their ideas for physical manifestation is more than Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) coming to the proverbial mountain. He would fu&$%n need more than Moses’ Miracle rod to bring a drop of progress from such talents, Why, Why, WHyYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Here is why. (From my frustrated angst"ed" mood) 1: People in the CJ's age bracket (Pre Independence/Post Civil war) who have seen the consequences of their action (inaction) -->Post Military-Era/Post June 12/Post Democracy, have always dictated What/How/Why Nigeria is. 2: Youths like us spend our entire life on self-improvement and other worthy causes (that typically cannot affect What/How/Why in Naija) 3: The Masses who cannot afford to lift their dreams beyond akara and akamo simply look on (sufferin n smiling) In the end, it is YOU my "in-another-dimension" friend that is the problem. Youths like us who sit all day in forums, office jobs, and internet cafes and coders sitez. We are the real problem; we are so docile to the changes that need to be done at the right levels (the political level) We sit back and build our high-winding technologies and business ideas only to feel frustrated the country has barely come out of the middle of the swamp. We are the docile ones not our leaders, they are just senile, pornogra"cious" bent-over oldmen whose only ideas come from youths like us. We are the ones who are not doing anything about this country's progress I think I am spent, hope I did not break the rules (i am sure i was off-topic, oh well) As for the out-going CJ, he and his friends should go lick a ripe lemon and die of Leukemia of the nether regions and soo very soon (so i can claim to be an old man myself) |
honestly. i have been looking for what to critisize but found none, darn.! I even ran it through 6 online XML/CSS/Html validators just to crack at least one line of errorneuos code (gave up) Online validators http://www.oasis-open.org/cover/check-xml.html Finally, i found one, that leaked a few warnings http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eburutu.org%2Ftest.html&usermedium=all Brilliant job, I especially like the idea of linking to your resume for website crawlers to chew, |
1 million pound is a tidy sum even for a wealthy man, the real me would 1: Invest it in profitable stocks world-wide 2: Raise a tactical assasination squad formed from like-minds (drawn from all ethnic groups in naija) --cept for yorubas 3: Wait for 2007/post new dawn of democracy or anarchy in nigeria 4: Kill every mutha, (shut your mouth) politicians (especially the ones over 70yrs old) who insist on doing nigerian in via corrupt means 5: kill every over-zeolot christain/muslim/pagan who feels the urge to convert by violent means rather than by example the real me as describe by CNN (happiest people in the world) 1: Take the money , gather folks and disappear so i won't share the monies with relatives |
darn, this forum is pro-opensource, do you work for enownow?, i know some guy who was asked to do a portal frontpage liek yahoo, do you want interface people as well (should have learned PHP back in d days) easy mon |
my2cents If you visit the last site I coded www.southsouthforum.org, do a print preview./this is way 2 kool, i should slap myself for avoiding css all along. el_cij thanks man, inspiration come from top-class non-nigerian sites, like Zahymaka does, its in the integration of the best sides of the websites i like http://www.coolhomepages.com/ just because it has to do with nigeria doesnt mean it has to be green and whitei love Nigeria but wished our flag had a different color or had native designs like SA, nigerians just love their national colors, u should see us at the olympics during the ceremonial march |
@Zahymaka thanks for the tip. i did not know CSS could do that <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="bgl.css" media="print">@smartsoft trying to re-organize the layout for the register and login form |
Amazing, and i thought i had it all covered. will get back to work on those suggestions. thanks guyz, especially for the Printer Friendly Version (BGL) - If you use CSS, you can implement a printer stylesheet. That way, you don't have to maintain duplicate code per page coded => Better maintainabilityI do not know much Css cept for font formatting. I was planning to use ASP to read the webpage to the point where the text portion starts and display that insteed. but i think Css is a lot simpler. As for the Green, the client is obsessed with their corporate colors, so much they decided they did not want color pictures. somethings you cannot change. I really appreciate yoru comments. thanks |
great resource for interface designers (web, applications and engineering) who care about usability Though it has been difficult adoptign a writign style that works according to the FF pattern, |
Sites under development and under review lay it to the meat grinder 1: http://www.bglltd.com 2: http://www.afrinvest.com My primary goal is to build very minimalist websites that deliver a message precisely and functions properly, so alos look at those aspects as well. Patiently awaiting your suggestions and flaming if need be |
All i can say is beware of copyright infringement. it can work against your client in the future I see three graphic elements that form a sizable portion of your frontpage that was lifted from other websites and not modified at all The middle banner with 4 images was from Accenture the Contact us button is from Ceonex Yours : https://www.smartsoft-ng.com/images/have_question.gif Theirs https://www.ceonex.com/images/have_question.gif No offence but you have visited two great-looking sites (that might fail some standards tests), why not adopt a style that works for you based on those sites rather than mish-mashing diffrent site graphics and html together. Good effort, I think if you go over it with a pencil and a paper before actually doing it on a computer, it wil turn out fine |
I must put in my remaining 1cent of objection, ever since my2cents started leaning strongly on guys who did not stick to standards; i have been very uncomfortable, why, because most of it is true and you sort of feel either angry because someone told you or guilty because you know it is true. I started out as a VB interface developer for a stockbroking company back in 1997, I would cause the coders severe fever and hypertension by making a single interface that handled 90% of everything the application had to do, which meant using a single button in at least 10 different context (changing its name color and position etc) Until one barely computer-literate user called me out of frustration "Why can't it be as easy as winzip" I literally banned him from using the computer until he upgraded his skills to the level where he realised winzip is a utility, i was building applications. One day i came upon an interface I had built a year back, I could not use it, I cursed whoever designed it and took it to the drawing board for re-design. Right there and then i realised what my problem was, I was an artist who loved his own style and would not stick with successful design patterns that are known to work. From that point on, I started looking at the Windows interface closely and modelled my designs after that. Voila, users were impressed, work got done a lot quicker and things became so logical that i hardly have to do a manual to users on how to use my applications. so the DRY and DITY: Don't Repeat Yourself and Don't Re-invent The Wheelis in order. |

Cactus do you have a suggestion beyond stating the (hypothetically & mathematically) inevitable, sure systems can be hacked given time and resources. VISA got hacked several times and so do large companies who spend mega-dollars on the issue. it does is not tied to any internet development tool, service or technologyThe important thing to recognize is there is a purpose to the hack-job (Steal info, Cause Damage, just Hacker-points or just revealing loop-holes that can be plugged) If data is your main concern then you will do well to learn how code defensively and proactively, Security infrastructure & technologies such as PKI, Encryption and extensive fields that relate to it did not just crop up due to off-hand statements like this, especially web development in asp.net, thats very easy to hack into.It is like saying people who use Night-guards have weak security, they should use java instead (tongue-in-cheek) RSA Security and the hosts of panels reviewing Kerberos/AES/DES/MD5/Blowfish/Two-fish and other forms of Authentication/Encryption systems are not just there for the spotlight or salaries. A better internet is based on functionality-trust-security-usability (not in any order). so as a contributor it would help the larger community if your statements are encouraging rather than dismissive Bottom-line. 1: there is a time value to information beyond which it becomes useless to the hacker 2: Security is not there to block the hacker totally, it is there to delay him/her or make the venture time-consuming and less profitable. 3: How best can we protect ourselves from the casual hacker I hope i did not come off as brash, it was not intended. |
I like the site, I have access to an account, unfortunately most of their financials only go back 2yrs. I just registered for a "Free" pro account, hope it gives more access and is faster to load data than the current one. thanks |
Past Financial Data could strictly mean Financial Statements & Annual Accounts (P&L, Cashflow & Balance sheet) I have hardcopies of at least 70% of listed NSE companies. Or you could mean key financial ratios such as EPS, PE, PEG, EBITDA, PBV etc (That is Financial Data as well) which i can generate softcopies in excel for. Or, if you meant stock prices, corporate actions (bonuses, dividends new issues) company results, trades and NSE index for the past 10 years. I have that and can generate in Excel or Access database, Either option, it is too large to send electronically. minimum of 10mb, i doubt Seun would like that sort of space-hugger on Nairaland Statement of Accounts alone is 70MB+ Do you have any ideas how you would want it delivered? |
i do , what exactly do you want, Financial STatements or Stock prices |
just giving you a heads-up Mozilla users warned--upgrade now http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-6062713.html |
hmmmn, teh news section, do you update it manually? you could try allafrica.com they have an RSS feed, some you can sift and display South-South news and not have need for the manual process or you could combine both |
