@theplanmaker...

Please stop spreading lies!!!

Residents are not sponsored by the government...

Its the house officers that come in contact with patients first, not nurses

imagine a surgeon exposed to all sorts of hazards, and you're telling me nurses are exposed to hazards...

If doctors watch soccer in the common rooms, then nurses also watch african magic in the wards!!!

How many times will i say this: being a consultantin any medical field is not an appointment... You have to write exams, and even fail them in nigeria!!! Come on, its even all over the world!!!

If you hate doctors, please travel out and establish your nursing home...

He even said pharmacists are hospital dispensers... Your mates are working in evans, gsk, NGC... You are here blabbing!!!

Abbbegggiii!!!

I read this post from the beginning to the end... And i have the following to say:

1) what you said concerning the residency training is nothing but the bloody truth... Neurosurgery is still better, come to pediatric surgery, where you'll see residents coming out of one theatre, going into another, like zombies, all for 90 days stretch: no rest, no sleep!!! And after how many years, failing and failing those bloody exams, you turn into a scrawny consultant!!!

2) i have also made up my mind NEVER to specialize in any clinical field!! Not because the work-load is much, but it isnt worth it al all... There is no single appreciation, either from the government, or even from the patient's relatives....

3) our salaries are nothing compared to what our counterparts earn overseas... A GP can be paid p to $75000 per annum, hehehe, do the math...

Well, na God go save us shaa... Nice post!!!

bolaino: Many of you might not be aware of this But the 3rd world war is gradually getting momentum, and It might become full blown in the next few months, there are founded speculations that the Russian president, Vladmir Putin, wants to bring back The Soviet union, he misses the days when The Red army would showcase their array of bombs and tanks at the May day parade in Moscow, he wants to bring back the former soviet union, hence is invasion of Ukraine, in the coming weeks we are going to see things unfold in front of out eyes, And the islamic state is putting a whole twist to the whole picture, because the Americans would be occupied with trying to destroy ISIS that they might not be fully prepared for what the russians are planning next. And mind you, tension in the Korean peninsula is heightened, North Korea wants to attack the south soon, the war in syria is spilling to lebanon and jordan, the indians and the pakistans have resumed hostilities, China will attack American forces in Japan if they have the chance, the African continent is thorn, Economic depression in sub saharan Africa is a problem that's growing, drought in sudan, boko haram in Nigeria, Al shabab in somalia, Isreal wants to kill all hamas operatives once and for all, we are in this for the long haul my Good people, Let's all sit back and fold our hands, Nigeria is not even in the equation, the bio weapon Ebola will finish us in the next couple of months, I pity Ignorant Nigerians. 4tunebest: Okay.
Liver function tests, e/u/cr, urinalysis and abdominopelvic scan.

Please what is the full spelling for e/u/cr. I guess the lab already knows what it means. Thanks
e/u/cr: electrolytes, urea and creatinine...

Electrolytes: sodium, potassium, bicarbonate and chloride

sometimes, we docs also call them "kidney function tests"

goodluck!!!

Health › Re: Please My Mum Needs Your Help! by Lagusta(m): 11:11am On Aug 23, 2014
4tunebest: @ Lagusta & Lomaxx, in summary we should do the following tests:

Liver functuin tests (LFTs)
urinalysis
e/u/cr
serum bile salt
serum bilirubin estimation
Abdominopelvic scan

Then we should see a gastroenterologist & an endocrinologist.

Any addition or subtraction? Thanks
bilirubin is part of the liver function tests...

Bile salts cannot be isolated from serum, dont worry about that...

If not that doctors are fighting with the govt, it would've been better to just go to a teaching hospital...

But dont worry, just go to a reputable diagnostic centre, do the tests and scans, then we can go from there...

Wait, lasuth is not on strike, maybe you can try there...

All da best!!!
Health › Re: Please My Mum Needs Your Help! by Lagusta(m): 10:53am On Aug 23, 2014
lomaxx: Lagusta isnt the diagnosis clear? grin grin

Nephrotic syndrome secondary to uncontrolled diabetes mellitus complicated by Uraemia.

Medicine is beautiful.

Lagusta what do you think? An endocrinologist should suffice.
one bottle of alomo for you joor, with alutacontinua to top it up!!! grin grin

4tunebest: She has been itching for over a month
No. She isn't asthmatic
She doesn't have any allergy that we know of
Yes. She is unusually tired @ times
She has bright white eyes
Her urine colour is normal, only that it foams

In addition, she is usually nauseous but she hasn't vomitted @ any time

Loss of appetite. She has been forcing herself to eat.

Just yesterday, she developed sore throat.
wait, did you say frothy/ foamy urine...

Please, i'm so sorry, i just want you to answer these questions before you go see a gastroenterologist...

Has your mom ever been stung by a scorpion/bee??

Does your mom use any soap containing mercury e.g tura soap??

Maybe you guys should do a urinalysis, quite cheap, but could reveal the culprit!!!

Nephrotic syndrome sometimes comes with itching...

Also, answer what lomaxx asked concerning puffy face in the morning... In fact, does she have any swelling whatsoever??
Health › Re: Please My Mum Needs Your Help! by Lagusta(m): 8:45am On Aug 23, 2014
lomaxx: How long has she had the itch?
Is she asthmatic?
Does she have allergies?
Is she unusually tired?
Are her eyes unusually yellow - even if its a tint?
Does she pass dark colored urine?

cc: Lagusta

I think her mom's pruritus may be unrelated to hygiene or the bed material. If it were, she would be having it in the daytime as well, because she obviously uses the same bed in the daytime. It would less likely be any of the dermatitis- exposure to the same conditions occur at all times of the day yet the itch chooses to come at night. Also, may not be atopy- atopy uses the type1 hypersensitivity reaction mediated by histamine from mast cell degran. Piriton would have taken care of it.

Maybe it's a systemic condition. Uremia and cholestasis comes to mind. Uremia has a continuous itch- day and night. Cholestatic pruritus occurs mainly at night- a possibility. But only co-symptoms, liver function test and serum bilirubin level would nail the diagnosis.

My humble submission.
that could also be a reason why she was admitted!!!

@op, please answer the questions concerning yellowness of eyes and coke-colored urine.....

Also, ask your mom if she passes white stools that are hard to flush
