Lilimax: It's not true. These days how many students are reading and graduating as Medical doctors. Everybody wants to Actors and Actresses, Stand up Comdeidans, Dancers,Musicians, Footballers etc.we are talking about graduate doctors, they dont want to specialize in pediatrics, but neurosurgery, plastic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, etc..... |
I dont want to cause a religious war, but if christians portray GOD almighty as a man, then i'm sorry...... |
pazienza: Paediatrics isn't that lucrative, forget the i became a doctor to save life mantra, most people are in to make money.no no no no no no no!!!! You got it all wrong!!!! Thats where doctors make mistakes, by always following the band wagon... After passing the primaries, you can sit at home for about three years before getting a slot as a registrar, then you undergo series of training, insults and bossing around for about five years before you are priviledged to go for your part 1 fellowships, if luckily you pass, you endure another five years as a senior registrar before going for your fellowship part 2, note that this is for only the faculty of surgery!!! The faculty of obs and gynae is even better, but equally stressful... And this occurs if you didnt fail any exam ooo, which is not usually the case, as politics is also applied!!! Whereas in pediatrics, within seven years max, you are a consultant, its easier, but not lucrative, thats the irony behind it... The same goes for psychiatry, pathology... |
bin gbagbo: hours later , gbagbo's wife walks in ![]() |
ballabriggs: Another lie by the imperialists designed to rubbish Nigeria's image.excuse me!!! Did you say 60 pediatricians in your village, as in 60 consultant fellows of either the west african or nigerian colleges of pediatrics ![]() ?? |
dominique: @Laalamed, a auack imo is one that didn't get any training for the profession he's posing as. I don't think its fair calling Nigerian doctors quacks for not having the proper facilities to manage complex cases. Sadly most of ours doctors depend on their guts and hunches when making diagnosis and prescriptions. Not that they don't know what's to be done, but they know a good number of the people can't afford most of these tests as well as extensive medical care. To be honest, a lot of our doctors are trying considering the resources at their disposal. If only our government can subsidise healthcare.exactly on point my sister!!! We are under equipped, we all agree, but do we now fold our arms and watch like sitting ducks ![]() Thats why we usually preach preventive medicine; use long-lasting insecticide treated nets, wash hands, sanitation.... Then come to hospital early before things get out of hand.... Diarrhea becomes worse if instead of rehydrating, the mum gave the child herbal concoctions to make it worse... Malaria becomes worse if we still give chloroquine instead of ACTs the list is endless!!!! |
dominique: You're evil!dont tell me you like dogs... ![]() |
Let me butt in for a second.. I believe that the problem with our healthcare system is not limited to one thing. First and foremost, the number one problem is funding. Funding not just in the sense of Salaries and equipments o!! But also research. Go abroad, you will hear things like Chicago State University Hospital is leading in the research for Breas`t cancer. But nothing like that happens here. Corruption is another issue. You see a medical ward abrod, its well equipped with heart rate monitors, machines and equipments all over, but in Nigeria, a brand new 'state of the art' hospital built by a government has just Beds, I.V stands, bedside cupboards and manual equipments. Something as basic as an X-ray machine sef is not available, talkless of a CT scanner or an MRI machine. I must commend our doctors who tend to do what I call Blind medecine. They diagonose, treat and medicate patients most times without any electronic help like their counterparts in the states. I'm speaking for the good doctors (which are quite many) here. Ask for the bad eggs amonsgt them, ... Ask for the Hospital assistants like Nurses and attendants, their problems range from poor training to lack of professional discipline and also zero zeal for their jobs. Thats why you can walk into a hospital and a Nurse would just ignore you and be gisting on the phone or be so uncouth to you. Cleaners!! This is another matter that should be looked into. First problem I see here is the cutting of cost for the purchase of cleaning materials. Most times, they use these local detergents that destroy the gloss and shimmer of tiles. After 1 year, a hospitals toilets and bathrooms are an eyesore. Secondly, I think the Doctors themselves try to divert money here by contracting individuals to clean the toilets rather than paying a company a bulk some to manage the hospitals sanitation. Basically, the health sector needs to be overhauled.. NOTHING IS WORKING THERE!! Whenever I'm sick, I dont go near a Government hospital. Not because I dont think they have good doctors o! But because the environment most times is worse than my illnness. To fix the problems in our health sector, the Government needs to do the following; 1. Fund researches. 2.Build world class hospitals complete with 21st century equipments like CT Scanners, MRI Machines, X-ray Machines, EKG machines, e.t.c 3. Properly train Nurses, attendants and Paramedics.. Not just professionally but also on ethics and manners. 4. Re-training. Every now and again, they should go on courses abroad and locally to better themselves. https://img.naij.com/n/09/2/nigerian_hospital.jpg https://www.portakabin.co.uk/uploads/building_use/building_use_image_268_1_PortakabinHullRI6637-150.jpg
this is the first time okija juju will make sense to me!!! ![]() however, i also want to chip in some things.... 1) you are right concerning research... 2) yes, hospitals are either under equipped or not equipped at all, but we are progressing. Here in ilorin, we have our very own university of ilorin teaching hospital, we have an ultra-modern ICU centre with all the basic resuscitation kits. We have x-ray machines, CAT scans, MRI machines, and yes, we have lots of MPPMs and ABG monitors.... Thats in ilorin ooo, talk less of lagos, abuja, etc.... 3) i believe its better to go to a teaching hospital for treatment than to go to a private, the most important reason being that nigerian doctors are business and not health oriented..... I am not saying all privates are bad, in fact, there are some hospitals that are better, but at what cost, not for the general populace, and doctors are better trained nowadays, going for crash courses, hands-on skills, etc... |
Oh God!!! This country is really running backwards!!!!!! Please dont tell me this dude wasted resources to travel to london just to do a CT scan and other investigations...... If there is no working CT in imo state, at least there are many in lagos, abuja, PHC, and others.... This country is decaying, rotting, and turnng into a pile of compost.... I weep for my country!!! |
walcolm: The 100k Z10 can play HD games and super faster download and all those 600,000 free apps will be avauilable for use on the Z10 very soonso why buy a 100K phone when i can buy a 12K infinix or a 45- tablet.. |
skimarvel: wich iz the best 2 study btw med lab, physiotheraphy, and radiographynow that depends on you, and you only.... Just pray to God, and follow your heart, it is well... Any course that is within the health line is usually lucrative.... |
But let me just reply some comments you made; quacks are not doctors, so they are ruled out.... Yes, we all have limitations, but we are all trained with the basic knowledge of managing common illnesses at primary level, all other advanced cases will be referred to the secondary and tertiary level where necessary.... For example, the typhoid and malaria you mentioned, would a sound doctor allow thhat typhoid to perforate or lead to endotoxic shock Wont the doctor give the appropriate dosage of the appropriate drugs... Same goes for malaria, how would i, as a doctor, manage a case of malaria and allow it to progress into quantal malarial nephropathy or cerebral malaria ?Yes, nigerian hospitals are not well equipped, but we are progressing!!! UITH is now well equipped with state of the art equipment that can manage critical cases, and i am sure of other teaching hospitals... A PHC must have at least an oxygen concentrator, a nebulizer, an AMBU bag, and an MPPM, with all the other drugs, beds, etc... I have worked inabout three hospitals here in kwara state with even more equipment and facilities than these and yes, i follow instructions, cos if i didnt, i wont be where i am now!!! |
Boss you seriously dont understand what i am saying..... Well, all good shaa |
Babalegba: A blackberry can save you a fortune in data charges,Android cannot do that.i laugh like someone having achondroplasia!!! Havent you heard that airtel BIS rocks on android, there are even better tweaks for other networks, now there are sims with unlimitd browsing!!! Please donate your BB to the village champions!!!! |
Advocate sam: Fool, if u knw d high case profiles I ve handled, u won't be here writing rubbish.hey, whats wrong with you, cant you do without hurling insults at people ![]() Now, that is something ikenna will never do, yes he may be stubborn, adamant at decisions and very rigid, but he can never stoop so low to start raining insults at people... If you were really called to the bar, please respect the lexicons of justice, equity, liberty, rule of law, and stop making a hullaballo of yourself..... |
Chomzy19: yes android appswere introduced in the z10 and any other bb phone that is going to run d os10. But all apps re not available yetabeg lets face facts.... The only thing a BB can do is just PINGING!!! And that has been taken over by whatsapp... A droid can play HD games, serve as a wireless hotspot, superfast downloads, over 600,000 free apps.... I know some BB fans will say bold5,6 and curve7 can also serve as a wireless hotspot, but i heard you need credit to do that, apart from the BIS subscription, but with a droid, its FREEEEEEEE!!!!! Why buy a 100K Z10 when you can buy an infinix or tecno for 12-15K, with better value for money!!! |
Advocate sam: Beyond reasonable doubt, Ikenna isBLADERDASH!!!! I'll advice the moderator to move this to the homepage, so that this so-called "advocate" can get the best of some nairalanders' insults... But seriously, are you really a barrister, or just a charge-and-bail that prints affidavit beside the local magistrate court....... |
cdamsel: I ve neva seen her in any movie, yet dem say she b actress?make she buy change of course form abegshe is yoruba actress... She always acts either as a campus big girl or a high-fly aristo.... You can try watching "osas" |
ryom: @op, nothing to worry about, fibroids (medical term -leiomyoma uteri) is particularly common among black women especially when having children is delayed. Old saying in med school if the uterus doesn't bear a foetus it will fibroids. The best 'cure' is to have kids but if you are not ready then various modalities available. Abroad they can do ablation but I don't know if that is available in Nigeria yet. If you do proceed with surgery, I will advise a teaching hospital. All the best!i concur... The only place you can have a myomectomy is in a teaching hospital, not a private centre ooo... But dont worry, all is well, like someone else said, its not a death sentence and after the surgery, you can go ahead with your normal life, get married and have beautiful kids!!!! |
Haaahaa, noo oooo!!! I am not as good as Drs TCD and lomaxx, na them be the guru samatarazinski of medicolistc paraphranelia.... But thanx anyway!!! |
I no see any pinshure faa |
See, make i no lie for una ooo... After amala and ewedu, my best food na indomie ooo.... Well, maybe its because of the peculiar taste, or the fact that it takes just a little time to cook, but i love it!!! |
I heard the BBZ10 can run android apps, is this true?? Can it play HD games?? I was once a BB fan, but when tecno introduced their cheap droids that run ice cream sandwich for just 12K, my bold3 just started gathering dust on my wardrobe.... |
skimarvel: Kan any1 tell me aw important RADIOGRAPHY is 2 d medical communityradiography is the use of some form of radiation; ionizing or non-ionizing, to view the internal structure of the body... It is different from radiology, which is a branch of medicine that deals with doctors using these radiation, and even some radioactive chemicals, to investigate, diagnose and treat disease... In summary, radiographers are trained to take x-rays, CT scans, MRI, ultrasound, etc but cannot diagnose the condition, while radiologists are trained specialists who can even use x-rays to fight cancer, inject radioactive dyes for bone imaging and administer radioactive drugs to cure disease.... |
valicious1: Yes u luk verymuch like niki OLUYEMI OLUGBENGA OLUeverytin minaj.let me help you... Nicki OLUWOLE OLUYEMI OLUGBENGA OLUFEMI OLUGBAMILA OLUMAYOWA OLUDUNSIN OLUDIPE OLUBUNMI OLUSEGUN OLUBLACK minaj.... But, the OP's moniker is a male, the pic is female.... Homo tinsss |

obyikye: I am yet to notice anything in my house or room. Please things like what?grasses Hmmmmmaybe its the pollen grains on the grass tops that is causing this menace.... Sorry boss you just have to stay away from them, if possible, get someone to cut the grasses there for you... Then take a few nasal drops with cough syrup, give me feedback after some days.... CHEERS!!! |
Laalamed: It is not about performing surgeries or treating common illnesses, it is about logistics and facilities. Doctors can not work alone without nothing. Some hospitals do not have theatre and few hospitals do not have theatre nurse, anaesthetist. What about functioning laboratories and imaging centres for postoperative monitoring. It is not good to be heroic in medicine, follow procedures to avoid iatrogenic deaths. Most medical graduates are afraid of litigation and more careful. Regarding common illnesses e.g diarhoea. Diarhoea is not simple as u think. Management of acute severe diagrhoea may include respiratory support, intensive care and monitoring by intensive care or paediatric nurse. Most private though have doctors attending to patients but how many doctors who admit critically ill child for auxilliary nurse to monitor. Cases severe malaria e.g cerebral malaria cannot be managed in centres without paediatric support.boss, we are driving the same point... Nigerian hospitals are not well equipped with basic facilities, doctors are not well trained, and the nigerian government is not helping matters.... I have once worked in a hospital where there is no laboratory, no oxygen cylinder and just a make-shift theatre where the doc there performs brutal operations, some without the guide of an anaesthetist.... Well, where i schooled i.e unilorin college of health sciences, we were trained to manage common illnesses holistically, with little or no resources and in the end, achieve bright results.... Concerning acute diarrhea, yes there may be need for respiratory support, etc, these are still basic, a doctor MUST know how to manage all-through, we are just lazy in this country wallahi cerebral malaria has once been managed wholly by a house-officer, without the supervision of a registrar in UITH, well, maybe its the way we are trained here shaa |
