Siena: VALVE CONFIGURATION

The valves in an engine allow air and fuel to be drawn into the combustion chambers (inlet valve) and burnt fuel to be expelled (exhaust valve). Anything over the regular 2-valves is known as "Multivalve." A multivalve engine will rev higher.

2-valve: The most common in older cars was 2 valves per cylinder. One inlet, and one exhaust. So an I4 engine will be an 8V, an I5 will be a 10V, an I6/V6 will ve a 12V etc.

Triple-valve: These engines had 3 valves per cylinder - 2 inlet, 1 exhaust. This arrangement alows the engine to breathe better. Examples of manufacturers that favour triple-valve engines are Mercedes-Benz, Proton, Mazda, Daihatsu.

4-valve: These engines are pretty much industry standard - 2 inlet and 2 exhaust. The arrangement was first introduced by a British car manufacturer in 1973, in the Triumph Dolomite Sprint. It was an I4 16-valve unit. Virtually all engine manufacturers have used the 4-valve set-up. So an I4 will be a 16-valve, an I5 will be a 20-valve, an I6/V6 will be a 24-valve, a V8 will be a 32V etc.

5-valve: This is the highest number of valves within a single cylinder. 3 small inlet valves, and First introduced in 1985 by Yamaha in their motorcycle engines. And subsequently in car engines, starting in 1994 by Audi, in the then newly-introduced Audi A4 B5. Better fuel and air mixture, though in smaller capacity engines, the entire rev range has to be used, to get the best out of the engine power-wise, unless a turbocharger is employed. Examples of 5-valve engines are Audi A3/4/6/8, Volkswagen Golf IV, Bora / Jetta, Passat, Polo and Phaeton, various Skoda and Seat models. An I4 with 5-valve technology will be a 20V, V6 a 30V, and a V8 a 40V.

Sir Siena Good evening. I had an argument with a senior colleague yesterday on the number of valves an engine config and size carried. I'm puzzled, can an I4 engine have 24 valves? thats 6 valves per cylinder. Can you confirm this sir

He said he didn't have n I did not bother. I ended up gettin d mony from a neibr who wasn't evn a close fwend. 3 days later I found out dt my bf bout a new fone worth x10 of d amt I asked for. I talked to my fwends abt it n de said I was bein taken for granted n suggested dt he mite jus b stingy dt I shud jus ask for sumtin else in a while n c how it goes. Last week I asked him for mony to make my hair(jus to try him) n said old story. I told my sis abt it n she adviced I quietly retrace my steps else I end up in a marriage wher am being neglected. So I stoped callin fr a while n asked him to take a break while I do d same. I don't wan to talk to him abt it cos am too quik wt tears n hurt n now he keeps blarring my fone wt calls bt iv refused to pik. Am I bein too harsh? Pls advice me.tanks

I think you should share all you wrote up here with him. Truth is....guys can have a thousand and one things in their minds before they let one out through their mouth. This is especially true in relationships and girl matters. Next time he visits you, you should bring the topic out of the blues, don't raise it after asking him for something or try comparing him with your girlfriends' boyfriends. Stage it artistically and gauge his reaction, if he's defensive or trying to justify his actions then drop him, otherwise check to see any changes. You really can't blame some guys. It could be the way they were brought up or a hundred other things. Find out his story and it will tell you what to do next. cheers.

SoEndowed: I've been in an employment for nearly 20 years. In all these years, it has been frustrations all through. I've been here, thinking that tomorrow will be better, but I was wrong. I've spent most part of my working years here and I'm getting old. I feel like calling it off at last. I cannot wait to retire here, I dont want to die here. A business you can go into is to be a supplier of a particular product. You need to do some important research to find what product people demand for, getting the supply is a lesser challenge. With your capital, you can sell to retailers instead of end users. You should find out how other suppliers operate and strategies you can utilize to break in. It's most probably importing something that will work though. Start small and expand as the business grows. Many small leaves provide food than a pair of big leaves.


My musings
I look at my mom these past few months, she's about retiring and she worries her head about what business to go into, she's worried she'll retire soon and remain dormant. This is after over 35 years of service and nothing to show except some savings and a potentially boring life. I've learned that a new phase of life starts by 50. Lol @ some comments. I had my first kiss at age five. She was the girl next door and one year older than I was. We locked her elder brother out ( tho he kept threatening through the window), her younger bro was still too small to know anything, she sat on my feeble legs and the kiss lasted for like 10 minutes (with intervals between though).
