Politics › Biafra: Pardoning Of Ex-biafra Police Will Not Stop Agitation – BNYL by Lajet(op): 5:02pm On Oct 23, 2017
Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has warned that the decision of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to pay pardoned Biafra Police Officers would not stop the agitation for Igbo nation.

BNYL Leader, Princewill Obuka, while faulting the move, alleged that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo will hijack the process and present just Igbo officers, “whereas they are war veterans in numbers from Ogoja axis, Calabar axis, Ibibio people, and the old Rivers State.”
Decrying the alleged marginalization of the South East and South South, Obuka said the Ogoja-Ikom-Calabar superhighways has been abandoned for years, just as he said that the Port Harcourt -Enugu express way has equally been abandoned.

Noting that the demands for Biafra is beyond construction of roads and payment of pensions, Obuka said, “even if the government decides to address the issue today, it will not end the Biafra quest as it has become too late.”

In a statement sent to DAILY POST, on Monday, Obuka said, “It is not just paying our war veterans, we are talking about marginalization of ethnic groups of former Eastern region, there are refugees in Bakassi peninsula that have not been resettled, we are talking about abandoned Calabar and Port Harcourt seaports”

Obuka also condemned the group of Igbo people who were at the Aso Rock to thank President Mohammadu Buhari over Operation Python Dance in the South East.
The BNYL leader maintained that they were not Igbo but hired members of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

IPOB leadership are very wrong to have decided to boycott Anambra Election if they are wise they would have told their supporters to vote for Osita Chidoka because their must be a winner in November Governorship Election In Anambra that is the bitter truth many people will still vote . If Obiano can treat them like this in his first term imagine if he win his second they are going to suffer worst it is better they have to rethink its not late now i know Pride may not allow them to do so they have opportunity to kick Obiano out now that is the only way they can punish him. The should stop all this Nonsense their will not be election in Anambra state because Election must hold.

When they tell you to go to school, potor won't listen. You'll be exporting abiama powder upandan

They're talking about registered voters by region, not ethnicity.

Only 703, 409 people voted in Anambra during the last presidential elections.

Per the emboldened, I disagree with you. Potor make up about 95% of Lagos population. Yorubas 2%, Hausas 2%, other ethnic groups 1%
Nonsense Propaganda look for another lie this one no work out Mr Afonja Muslim even when many people boycott not to register because of IPOB the still manage to get 2 Million voters during September by now it may have increased . You have to bear in Mind that Igboland have 99% of Igbo people living in South East not like lagos that Igbo may consist 30% to 35% voters there.

Anambra: 2m voters register for November poll

Awka—THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said yesterday, that no fewer than two million voters have been registered for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Dr. Nwachukwu Orji, who spoke during a meeting with Electoral Officers and members of the Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, in Awka said the comprehensive register would be printed in the next three weeks, adding that they would be published in three instalments in all the local government areas of the state.

Politics › IPOB Not A Terrorist Organisation — Utomi by Lajet(op): 12:05pm On Oct 09, 2017
By Sam Eyoboka LAGOS— A RENOWNED political economist and one-time presidential aspirant, Prof. Pat Utomi, has rejected the recent classification of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, by Nigerian government as a terrorist organisation, saying the Nnamdi Kanu group might be a nuisance, but they are not a terrorist organisation.

Utomi, who was reacting to the Federal Government’s categorisation at a function at Holy Cross Cathedral in Lagos, argued that people have the right to express themselves, stressing: “People have the right to say they’ve been unjustly treated. To take away that right from them is to say you want to enslave them. When you talk about modern slavery, it’s the most grievous violation of human rights in the 21st century.

“I’ve not seen what terror they (IPOB) have committed. They are not, I repeat, quote me anywhere, any day, they are not a terrorist organisation. “That’s just a political thing. It doesn’t make sense which way you look at it. It’s just a political thing. You can carve any name, you can be IPOB or ITOT, it’s just a name.” “Nigeria is going through a necessary and interesting phase of its evolution as a country. I am not one of those unduly worried about the things going on in the country. They are part of the thesis and anti-thesis that will produce synthesis that is a nation.’’ Asked to advise the nation’s leaders, Utomi said: “That we all seek God’s blessings for all, no one is a child of a lesser God. And as those who wrote that piece of play has said, our arms are too short to box with God. I wish peace to all, progress to all, growth of abundance mentality, human charity that leads to accommodation.”

Politics › Biafra: Middle-belt, Southern Leaders Blast FG, Insist Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB Not Ter by Lajet(op): 12:20pm On Oct 06, 2017
The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum has condemned the labeling of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu as terrorists by the Federal Government.

In a communiqué issued after its second Consultative Summit in Abuja on Thursday, the group rejected, “the hasty tagging of IPOB as terrorist organisation in the face of contrary evidence.”

In attendance were Edwin Clark, Barnabas Gumade, Jerry Gana, Olu Falae, Tunde Ogbeha, Ayo Adebajo, Yinka Odumakin, Dan Suleiman and Stella Omu.

The Forum also deplored recent developments in the South East, which led to deployment of troops.

“We call on the Federal Government to always exercise restraint in the deployment of troops in quelling civil agitations, which is the responsibility of the Police in any democracy.

“Consequently, we call on the Federal Government to reconsider similar operations that the Army is embarking on in the South West and South South zones, which are peaceful areas,” it said.

The Forum added the military exercises were unnecessary and were largely seen as “sheer intimidation and barring of fangs.”

“Under federalism, you do not deploy troops to the federating units without the invitation of the affected local authorities.

“The Federal Government must also employ dialogue above raw force in engaging dissension,” the communiqué added.

It also called on the Federal Government to tackle kidnapping, herdsmen/farmers clashes and abduction in the Middle-Belt region.

Politics › Stop Hate Action To Stop Hate Speech In Nigeria, Lawmaker Tells FG by Lajet(op): 2:54pm On Oct 01, 2017
By Chinonso Alozie, Owerri A lawmaker in the Imo state House of Assembly, Mr. Mike Iheanatu, said Sunday, that if only people in authority would stop hate action that will end the issues of hate speeches. Iheanatu, stated this to Vanguard in Owerri.

It was gathered by Vanguard that on the day the 36 speakers of state Houses of Assembly, had a special session in the state, where they passed a motion condemning hate speech in the country, Iheanatu, raised his hand to speak but was not given the opportunity by the Imo speaker, Acho Ihim. According to the lawmaker, representing Aboh Mbaise state constituency, he was not against the condemnation of hate speech in Nigeria. In his opinion, “I was not opposing to say that hate speech is good. I wanted to add another leg to the motion to say that much as we

condemn hate speech, we should be able to know and realize that hate speech is a by product of hate action. Hate speech does not come on it’s own, something precipitate it and something propels it. “It is a kind of having a cause and effect relationship. Something causes something to happen. Hate speech is a by product of a hate action. So if you do not want a hate speech don’t introduce or precipitate a hate action. “For a example, the Nigeria we have today , I am a Nigeria. I support Nigeria as a sovereign nation. But we must not behave in a way that show we love some people and hate others.”

Politics › Quit Notice: El-Rufai Playing With Fire Over Arrest Warrant – Arewa Youths by Lajet(op): 10:59am On Sep 30, 2017
President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Shettima Yerima has reacted to arrest warrant obtained against his members by Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

He said the governor was playing with fire by planning to arrest members of his group, who had issued quit notice to Igbos living in the north to leave the region on or before October 1.
Governor El-Rufai had on Thursday obtained court warrant to arrest the Northern youth leaders.

Reacting to this development, Yerima told Saturday Sun, that the governor’s action showed that he was an enemy of the Muhammadu Buhari government.

“Honestly, we really do not want to join issues with him, what is before us is how to rebuild the country, and so far, we have been doing that.

“Probably the governor is working to distract the government and we cannot be an agent to distracting the government.

“We will ensure we do everything within our limits to ensure that there is peace in the country, and we have been demonstrating this. We will not allow him to distract us”, he said.

He noted that Nigerians would be in a better position to judge the Kaduna State governor, and to see if he was a true Nigerian, who actually wanted peace in the country.

“We are wondering because El-Rufai never thought of this until few days before October 1, when the issue has been put behind us, and we have done wonderfully to nip in the bud any crisis that would arise in the north because of killings in the Southeast.

“We took it upon ourselves to go to Kano, a volatile area to address the northern youths, and warned that nobody should attack any Igbo in the region; more so, there shouldn’t be any reprisal attack.
No one from Southeast was harassed in the north. For him to come now is a clear indication for Nigerians to know the true enemy of the government, as well as, true enemy of the country.”

Politics › Quit Notice: Kaduna Government Obtains Bench Warrant Against Arewa Youths by Lajet(op): 6:51pm On Sep 28, 2017
The Kaduna State Government has obtained a bench warrant from the court to arrest members of the Coalition of Northern Youths that gave Igbos October 1, 2017 to quit the region.

Despite the withdrawal of the quit notice by the group, the state government said they must be arrested.
Recall that a coalition of Northern groups, including the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum led by Shettima Yerima had, in July, given all Igbos resident in the 19 Northern states a three-month ultimatum to quit or be forced out after the expiration of the October 1, 2017 deadline.

The group also asked all Northerners resident in the southeast to be prepared to return home (north).

Addressing a press conference at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, in the state capital, Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, however, assured residents that they had nothing to fear no matter what their ancestry is.

The government, he added informed residents that law enforcement and security agencies were taking necessary action to prevent any threat to peace.
“The government has obtained bench warrants for their arrest, after filing a formal criminal complaint,” he said.

He added, “The Kaduna State Government notes with commendation the efforts of the residents of our diverse state to uphold peace in their communities.

“The government and the security agencies are working to prevent any threats to this cherished harmony.

“Vigorous security patrols will continue as part of concrete action to reassure residents and demonstrate that bad behaviour is unwelcome and will not be tolerated.

“Vigorous security patrols will continue as part of concrete action to reassure residents and demonstrate that bad behaviour is unwelcome and will not be tolerated.

“When some elements barged into our state capital to deliver an illegal ultimatum to a section of our community, the government condemned it and ordered the arrest of those concerned.

“The Kaduna State Government followed up with a formal criminal complaint to the police, and has obtained a bench warrant against them. Therefore, anybody that sights them or is aware of their location should proudly discharge the civic duty of informing the police.

“The criminal complaint specifies the sections of the recently updated Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017 that were violated by those that issued the illegal ultimatum. These include:

1. Inciting Disturbance: Section 78

2. Disturbing Public Peace: Section 77

3. Injurious Falsehood: Section 373

4. Unlawful Assembly: Section 66

5. Criminal Conspiracy: Section 59

“The formal criminal complaint and the bench warrant secured on 8th August 2017 provides a basis to investigate, apprehend and ultimately prosecute the suspects.

“Accordingly, a competent court has directed the Commissioner of Police- Kaduna State to act on the criminal complaint. The Kaduna State Government considers this a most important matter of law enforcement, and will not relent on the matter.

“Anybody contemplating unlawful action should know that such will invite a vigorous law-enforcement response.

“The Kaduna State Government is persuaded that a law-governed society should always signal that sanctions will follow illegal behaviour. This is in the interest of justice, peace and harmony.

“All residents of Kaduna State are enjoined to go about their lawful business, uphold and respect their neighbours and report any suspicious activity or person. Nobody has the power to evict another citizen or to tell them where they can or cannot live.”

Politics › Biafra: Abaribe Denies Being Queried By Senate Over Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB by Lajet(op): 10:44pm On Sep 27, 2017
The Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has denied that he was questioned by the Senate over his involvement with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Abaribe also alleged that some persons are attempting to create conflicts, between South-Eastern legislators and their Northern counterparts.
He stated this while speaking on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.

“This morning Mr President, I was surprised to find ‘IPOB: senators query Abaribe over Kanu’s bail’. Mr President we have always said in this floor that anything the presiding officer says in the closed-door session that is the sum total of our discussion,” Abaribe said.

“And I remember yesterday that three points were made as a result of our discussion, which was Nigeria’s unity and effort by this senate to make sure we help in bringing peace to this country. The headline that purports to say that this is what happened in our closed-door session which of course did not happen does not in any way advance the course of peace in this country.

“My constituents have been worried, they have called me and they have been asking me and I have told them that it is not true and I will bring it up on the floor and ask the entire senate to please help us to ask the newspaper to produce whoever gave them this information.
“The senate does not query any of its members, that is the first place where they failed in casting this headline because each senator knows what we discussed and what came out at the end of it.

“I wish to be given the opportunity to lay this newspaper and ask this senate to please look at the attempt at driving a wedge between the south-east senators and the northern senators, because it was said here that the northern senators made a demand for which the south-east senators reluctantly agreed.

“Some people are bent on making sure that there is no peace but I know that God will not allow them.”

Abaribe was one of the sureties who secured the bail granted IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Politics › Biafra: PDP Chieftain, Onuesoke ‘attacks’ Shehu Sani Over IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu by Lajet(op): 4:57pm On Sep 27, 2017
A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and former Governorship aspirant in Delta State, Sunny Onuesoke, has berated Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani, for claiming that the United States cannot dictate to Nigeria who to declare as terrorist.

Following the proscription of the pro-Biafra group by the Nigerian Government recently, the US, had declared that the group is not a terrorists organization.

However, Sani dismissed the stance by the US, stressing that foreign countries with respect to the US can’t dictate to Nigeria who should be declared a terrorist.

Reacting to Sani’s claim, Onuesoke, in a statement signed by his media aide, Stanley Efe, stressed that Sani’s claim, “is a clear case of parochial sentiments.”

Onuesoke wondered why Federal Government will proscribe IPOB, “agitating for the well-being” of their people, while Fulani herdsmen raping and killing people and not placed in the same category.

The statement reads, “My attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the Senator representing the good people of Kaduna Central in the Red Chamber, Shehu Sani on page A8 of Independent of Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

“In as much as I want to agree with the distinguished Senator that Nigeria and US are sovereign Nations and as such, must respect each other’s laws, there’s also room for other Nations, especially US to intervene on issues bothering on terrorism as it affects the world at large.

“America has been at the forefront, fighting terrorism all over the world. They have a better understanding of the operations and activities of terrorist groups across the globe.

“Asking US not to dictate to us who to call a terrorist/group in Nigeria is a clear case of parochial sentiments by Senator Sani.

“Boko Haram & Fulani Herdsmen who daily maim, rape women & girls and kill innocent people are not terrorists but this APC led Federal Govt was quick to label a harmless group of persons agitating for their well being as a terrorist group.

“Has Senator Sani deemed it fit in time past to condemn the activities of Fulani herdsmen who unleash untold hardship on innocent citizens?.

“No matter their gimmicks, the world including US knows that IPOB is not a terrorist group. They don’t go about with arms and ammunitions.”

Politics › Biafra: Soyinka Warns Buhari, Nigerian Army Over Operation Python Dance by Lajet(op): 7:48am On Sep 21, 2017
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Wednesday warned President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Army to be cautious in its activities, following the declaration of Operations Python Dance and Crocodile Smile in some parts of the country.

Soyinka made the call during his address at a press conference marking the 50th anniversary of the death of a poet, Christopher Okigbo, at the University of Ibadan.

Okigbo died while fighting on the Biafran side during the Nigerian civil war in 1967

Soyinka urged the Federal Government and the military authorities to tread with caution while dealing with civilians.

“There has to be a way out of a repeat of war. But we are reaching a stage whereby, like Christopher Okigbo, people are putting their lives on the line again, which can lead to terrible consequences.

“I think at a time when cattle rearers, who feel they own the nation, humiliate and dehumanise innocent citizens in their communities, this is an area the military can focus more on,” he said.
