Hi, all. Great job!

Forgive me for being too lazy to go thru all the earlier discussions as i'm sure the answer to my question may be somewhere in there.

i intend taking a two-week vacation to the Uk.  Although working presently working, my brother would be my sponsor. I av a letter of invitation+biodata page (passport) of my host, letter/bank statements from my sponsor, letter from my employer indicating that i'm a staff, my leave letter.

1. Since its not a self-sponsor scenario, do i need my payslip or account statement?
2. The host indicated her willingness to host me during the visit. Is this sufficient?Would there be any need to request another letter giving mortgage/accomodation information?
3. Trying to kill two birds with a stone during the visit as I'll like to be there for my friend there who is berieved and burial would be taking place during the proposed visit. since i stated vacation under purpose of visit, shld i mention this too?
4. My host would be providing for my accomodation/feeding only. does dat make a co-sponsor? If yes, would that require my getting more evidences on her financial capabilities?
5. wat proof dat i'l return can i also include? currently doing my mba program here. would dat be any help.

Would appreciate your tips

Wash it then add it into the stew or soup, there is no need making it into paste.

True. I personally don't blend and enjoy it better when the pepper is partially mashed or blended. Try adding roasted catfish to it and u'll practically forget your name!

ANGER

‘WHAT!!!’ I screamed

‘I’m sorry, Madam, it,  , it  was a ……’ The once confident doctor had suddenly turned to a stuttering slowpoke right before me.

‘IT WAS  WHAT?’  I roared as I threw the file he was holding out to me right at his face. The contents of the file echoed my mood as the contents angrily fell in different directions.

By now I was shaking uncontrollably with anger. I clenched my fist to stop me from trembling, all to no avail. I was going to say something, but wordless rambles was all that came out of my mouth. I was staring at the doctor intensely but was actually not seeing him. THE KILLER DOCTOR!

Suddenly my legs couldn’t support me any longer and I slumped on the visitors’ chair in the doctor’s office and started banging the table as if my very life depended on the consistency of the bang.

Its strange how situations bring out volcanic emotions you never knew existed in you; emotions you thought you had conquered with years of  trained demeanor and self-imposed discipline; career-induced comportment and a seen-it-all conviction. I, the quintessential ‘Cool and collected lady’, well, until a few days ago, that is.  All posh, decorum and comportment completely dumped for naked, unadulterated fury. It's scary.

‘Madam…, ’

‘IF YOU UTTER ONE MORE WORD, I’LL KILL YOU, YOU BASTARD’. He looked into my eyes and saw I meant it and finally gave up on trying to justify murder, yes, murder which in all honesty I feel is an understatement of  the effect of his actions.

You would have thought I was addressing a little kid who had committed a life-threatening crime. A little kid, it was not but life-threatening, it very much was and more.

Several minutes of silent, seething anger later, I was ready to talk.

‘The results… the HIV result…why….what happened?’
‘I really do not know how to explain this. All I can say is that there was a mix-up somewhere and the wrong result was used for you. However subsequent tests we carried out on you shows a HIV/AIDS negative result. I apologize immensely.’
The only acknowledgement he got was a slow nod and torrents of tears.
‘I know this must have caused you a lot of emotional and psychological turmoil but please look at the upside. You do not have the syndrome!’ he went on, his excitement totally lost on me.
He got a caustic, pained smile and more silence in response.
‘Look madam, if I were you, I’ll immediately call my family and tell them the good news and move on with my life’
‘Family?’ I asked. He nodded with a reassuring smile, one which was quick to turn sour when he saw the look on my face.
‘My Dad, the only surviving family I have, had a heart attack and passed away when the news of HIV leaked to him last week.’ I answered as he stared in shock at the  stone-cold look on my face, one that has been there ever since.

Business / Re: Affordable Clothes & Accessories In Dubai? by lami4life(f): 10:58am On Aug 27, 2008
Hmm. Thanks all

LondonCool:

Accessories ,Yes. Clothes, No. Dubai is not the best place to get your clothes. The prices for the new ones are a rip-off, and the quality for the fake designers + second hand ones are not worth it. I went to the famous second hand market and was very dissappointed-I wouldnt even buy clothes as a gift for me enemy; it made me to treasure my Liverpool St Market/East Street markets in London better.

Fully agree with you on this one. Now i'l rather opt for shopping for clothes in UK than Dubai. The prices of good quality clothes are grossly & unduly exxagerated. Meanwhile what tends to be more rampant are substandard clothings. This whole thing got me thinking. It so ironic that many Nigerians would travel several thousands of miles to buy substandard goods while bad-mouthing and despising our home-made Aba goods don't point accusing fingers, i know i'm guilty too but i neva bad-mouthed made-in-Aba goods sha o.  i believe some of  our home-made goods are even superior to theirs.

@ Poster,
Carryin out cheap survey, huh?

oyb:

their adverts make me wonder. . .even in their previous incarnation as plantinum bank, their ads seemed designed to appeal to the airhead university 'club/big boy' crowd.

more often than not their ads are about how being in platinum makes you a big boy/girl. listen to the new kiddie ad. . or that one with the man and his son showing off in their new car oppressing the neighbours tongue

I think not. The emphasis seems to be more on innovation. On the particular ad in question, a brand new car lease ad will inevitably have some status element to it.

While i have some reservations on their services too, i believe we (Clients & prospective clients) need to be more receptive to change. We are all so used to the traditional bank ads of tally number et al. tongue

You must have duped someone else in your life time to allow such a thing happen to you. What goes around comes around. Please search your conscience deeply! kiss

A fool and his or her money are soon parted!

When things like these happen to me, I usually search my soul and it does not take long to find out the reason for my misfortune. Learn to do the same and you will find more peace within you and it will be much easier to let go.

Quite shallow, don't you think?

i honestly don't see why this issue of travelling out of Naija should be a do-or-die affair. This kind of desperation have driven people to frustrations and disillusionment. Opportunities that can produce fortunes come your way in Naija, but no; the answer lies in travelling abroad; shocked OK, have a Plan B- Never, it's US/UK etc or nothing, UK/US is the Plan A,B,C, Z angry. You raise an alarm " Brother, your life is collapsing before you, do something useful fast aside from this your travelling obsession" shocked. The answer? "When i travel, all this will change" angry
LIFE ABROAD IS NOT A BOX OF CHOCOLATES! It's good to dream, but even our dreams need to be kept in perspective. Many an individual have lost both ways after several years of unfulfilled dreams all because of their failure to put things in perspective.

Faith without works is dead. If you believe dat God can make a way out for u, the next step is to take practical steps toward improving urself, such dat would make u look 'attractive' to employers.  I suggest u do a post graduate diploma and then a masters' degree program to boost ur chances. Professional qualifications can be a catalyst too.

Thanx Kazey.

As a matter of fact, i do have a level of business experience. What however is new to me is this new line of business (fast food) I'm going into. Someone came up with a very unique business proposal, one which i find very promising. However, he would require funding, which i committed to providing (not all, but 80% and he, the one with the experience in the particular field, 20%).
My area of concern, which necessitated the questions, is in the area of control. I av a considerable level of say in view of my intended level of investment in the business and as such would not hesitate to insist on whatever control measures i can put in place to protect my investment. I would not be a daily (maybe not even a weekly) visitor to the place.
