What is your opinion about the subsidy thing and if you are president today what will you do about it

We have been kicking the subsidy stone down the road ever since and it looks like we cannot expect any meaningful development as long as we have subsidy
We have to keep kicking it down the road till necessary cushion are in place. Until electricity is stable to a large extent, fuel subsidy should remain in my own opinion.

Cost of fuel is associated with almost everything in the country, small fuel scarcity we know how prices of things use to skyrocket, now imagine fuel going from 180 to 750, price of everything will go over the roof with salary and wages remaining constant.

It’s the perfect recipe for chaos and anarchy.

The kind riot and protest that will happen once fuel subsidy is gone without the necessary cushion for the masses will be unprecedented.

Buying 400 due to scarcity is different from knowing you will be buying it 750 everyday. Everywhere go burst. cheesy

I know she tried. Make she Dey manage the APC NWC for now. Her Oga Ben Ayade is not going to the senate so that’s Cross River slot already taken.

Moreover the health ministry needs total revamping, I don’t know her records as commissioner for health in Cross River but I’d rather we pick Prof Akin Abayomi. The man is born for that role.

Prof. Isa Pantami should be retained as Minister for Comm.

Raji Fashola should be retained as Minister for Works.

Dr. Umar Ganduje should be considered as Minister for Labour and Productivity.

Dr. Betta Edu as Minister for Health.

Festus Keyamo as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation.

HE. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Minister for Budget and National Planning.
Which kind list be this sir? cheesy

You have someone like that Prof Akin Abayomi of Lagos, you wan use Betta Edu as Minister of Health. Respect yourself ooo 😂

Make Sanusi go sit down. No way Ganduje and Sanusi will be picked from Kano. Can never work.

Keyamo should go head NBC.

Ganduje should be minister for works.

Fashola won’t be made minister, he will be in the inner circle most probably Chief of Staff.

@Larride, what is the economic reason behind that Kano to Niger republic railway project?
Trade.

Niger republic is a landlocked country, they route all their importation to Cotonou (If I’m not mistaken) and then use trucks to move it to Niger.

Lagos to Ibadan train has been completed. The Lagos end of the rail line has been connected to Apapa port, Ibadan government and the FG were suppose to develop a dry seaport (I don’t know the level of work on the dry seaport). Immediately after commissioning the Lagos to Ibadan line, work began on the Ibadan to Kano phase.

So the idea is to encourage Niger to import their goods through Lagos port and then use rail to move it from Lagos to Maradi in Niger republic.

As I said, change begins with us.
I don't get, are you for or against the notion that tribe shouldn't be the prerogative when it comes to electing leaders??
Because that would contradict your earlier stance which you declared.
Yes I agree that change begins with us but let’s start the change from the East first. Once any of the 5 Eastern state elect any Hausa/Yoruba/Fulani/Ibibio/Tiv as Governor, we will replicate same down West here. We are saying the same thing.

Thank you as you begin this enlightenment in the East.

Larride, the only currency we have here is our opinions. That's to say the only purpose of this place is to learn, unlearn and relearn. To educate ourselves on various things.

Yes, you are correct in stating that in Nigeria of today, it is very likely that someone of another tribe will likely not win governorship of a state outside his region but that doesn't mean it should be so.

The obidient movement has shown that if the people come together, something can be built out of nothing. The least we can do is lend out voices for the impossible to become possible.

So I personally wish that a day comes where a man of yoruba and hausa descent who is capable and competent of leadership and understands the terrain of Enugu state becomes the governor of the state.

Being a governor is only being a steward of the state for a given period of time. Tribe really shouldn't be the prerogative. Ibime could very well throw his hat into the ring for Mayor of London and boom, he's the leader of London tomorrow because he's lived there and understands the challenges of the place or at least I hope so. That is the ideal world.

What we on our parts shouldn't be is enablers or proponents of divisive rhetorics. We should all be liberals, willing to constantly change and move the world to an eve accommodating place. Not fighting for conservation of the status quo which equals stagnation.

So my very respected elder brother larride, I'm hoping your position too is that you wish to see the day an igbo man is the governor of yobe state, an hausa man is the governor of Anambra state, an igala man is the governor of Oyo state but that the common qualities of these men is that they are all technocrats with a desire to aggressively develop the states they govern and are deviod of corruption and filled with empathy towards those they govern. Am I making sense?
When you are through with this story, elect a Fulani/Hausa/Tiv/Yoruba man as Governor of any of the 5 Igbo states first and we will continue from there.

Ciao.

Thank you, let me also add to the bolded "contesting for offices". So why are you not applying that standard to Lagos?
Why all the dog whistling about tribe?

Now let me ask again more directly, do you have a problem with an igbo person who has lived most of his life in Lagos, in your own words, paying his taxes, Livng and working there, aspiring to be the governor of his state?

Do you have a problem with that?

Caveat; citizenship by birth applies for only presidency. That's why I included your children in the equation, asking of you think your children born there should have a right to contest for any leadership position.
I have no problem with any body that want to contest election. An Igbo man contesting election for the number number one post in any other place apart from Igboland will not win. Same way a Yoruba man won’t win governorship election in the East or win governorship election in the NW.

Igbos have been contesting for election in Lagos and have won election to the State house of Assembly in the same Lagos, so why exactly is your question.

It is only on Nairaland when you want to gaslight that you mouth “what’s the issue about tribe”. If you are Igbo and you want to become Governor, go to the East, if you are Yoruba, go to the west and if you are Hausa/Fulani and the likes, go to the North.

There’s a reason why we use state of origin and not state of residence.

Can the NASS override Buhari’s veto on the 19 constitution amendment bills as they can on any other piece of legislation that the president vetoes?
It was the NASS that pass those bills in the first place now. After NASS passed the bills, they sent it to the State house of assembly for concurrence (2/3 of the state house of assembly must vote for the bill to be passed) before it gets to the President for assent.

Larride I've been meaning to ask you directly.

If you immigrated to the US or UK, do you think you should have a right or say in how your new environment is governed?

Or put more directly, do you think yourself or your children should have any right to seeking for the topmost leadership positions of the state or country?
There’s a reason why in most country before you can contest for the topmost leadership positions, you must have been born and raised in that country. Citizenship by birth.

Of course if I migrate out of the Nigeria to any country, as long as I pay my tax, live and work there, I do have a say in our my environment is governing by voting for my preferred candidate that I believe with further my cause. It’s simple sturv.

Why are the total gubernatorial votes significantly different from total presidential votes in many states
Different local complexities.

Zamfara for example that APC lost in the gubernatorial election, it was all due to Marafa.

Backstory, Marafa and Yari were in power struggle in 2018 for the control of Zamfara APC, some faction were loyal to Gov Yari while some were loyal to Senator Marafa. Both conducted parallel primaries but INEC recognized Gov Yari faction primaries, Marafa took the party and Yari to court. APC won the election but the Supreme Court nullified the primaries that produced the APC candidate under Yari and all the votes were voided. That’s how Mattawale of PDP became Gov of Zamfara even though he lost the election overwhelmingly.

3yrs later in 2021, Marafa and Yari reconciled and Mattawale joined APC so he can easily get the ticket and reelection since APC is the popular party in the state.

This is where it gets interesting, during APC primaries for the 2023 election, Dauda Lawal a protege of Marafa contested the primaries for the governorship ticket but lost to Mattawale as expected, so as not to rock the boat again like what happened in 2019, Dauda Lawal left APC for PDP while Marafa his mentor remained in APC.

The 3 musketeers Marafa, Yari and Mattawale all worked together for the success of the party in the Presidential election while Marafa was planning how to take the Governorship seat away from Mattawale. The rest they say is history.

I expect Dauda Lawal to move back to APC after inauguration.

Same scenario wanted to play out in Ogun State with Gbenga Daniels playing a spoil for Dapo Abiodun till Yayi saved him with Ogun West votes. The battle that will ensues between OGD and DA go sweet. 😂

Electricity still needs to be created from something so whether states can afford to burn fuel to create it is another matter

In.our area, we have many oil wells that just flare off the gas while collecting the crude oil. I don't know what the Engineers would say about the feasibility of stopping these wells and restarting them, as they were not designed with the intention of extracting gas. However there is potential to create production zones around these wells where the gas is turned to electricity on the spot to feed an industrial zone created nearby. Then attract all those Aba boys to.come and start producing in these zones with the free electricity. Even mining power for Bitcoin miners sef on the assumption they produce more electricity than an Industrial zone can consume.

In other words, we don't necessarily have to fix electricity throughout the country, but can build industrial zones around the oil wells that currently flare gas. There are few near my village that are just burning non stop. One burns directly from the ground, just like hellfire.
I agree with you but I believe that substations and power plant can be invested in through PPP. My only prayer is that govt should remove it’s hands from the operation and let the companies charge their correct rate so they can run efficiently because the moment subsidy is introduced in one way or the other, everything will go downhill from there.
