afrodoc2: Not only schools. We were just 2 doctors in the whole local government when I served. I worked 9am- 5pm and I was on call 24/7 for half of the local government.
Sometimes I would get home by 5.30pm only to be called back to the health centre by 6pm, leave by 8.30pm, and have to go back by 11pm. I get home 1am and there is no guarantee that I won’t be called back during the night.
Next morning 9am I start the same rat race. Doctors are doing a thankless job in this system. |

izzou: I know that.
But why use loans to fund projects that wont pay for itself? Why not use our revenue for such projects?
Because loan is one of the surest way of funding for capital projects. As long as we can meet our debt obligations, theres nothing wrong with taking loan. I 100% prefer taking loan to build infrastructure that will develop and open up the economy than looking for excuses. All nations are in debt. |

That's why I can never rate Buhari. The guy took the easy way out
Take loans and build infrastructures. Some of these projects cannot pay for themselves. Rather, they become liabilities that need more loans to service them. You just shared a document on using 100 billion loan to build roads at 15.6% interest. How will that loan ever be repaid in this life?
I have once asked if we generate anything in this country. Our debt was 70 billion at Dec 2021, and as at June 2022, it was 151 billion. ECA account is now Zero. What masterclass did Buhari actually apply for 8 years?
I expect the next president to take this route too. Use loans to build roads, and everything. Then campaign with it for 8 years. Not all infrastructure will pay itself. That's a simplistic way of viewing things. Apart from rails and tolled highways, which infrastructure directly pay for itself? |

izzou: Yes, the government should recruit teachers...Qualified teachers..
But since they cannot recruit, an issue that predates even before 1999, what do you expect them to do?
Post corpers to teach? Or let the classrooms be empty since they cannot recruit that much? But why exactly cant they recruit qualified teachers? I'm not talking about Anambra alone now, I'm talking about all state govt. The reason why they are not recruiting teachers is because corpers are cheap labors that they can pay peanuts or nothing at all to teach instead of employing and properly paying teachers. |

Roland17: The same people will find their way back to any reformed force. Until we put a ton of pressure on their bosses, there will be no change. Their respective bosses should suffer serious consequences when their command is found to be putting up check points.
The problem is a lack of accountability. We have seen numerous IGs tell us check points/ stop and searches are illegals but some how they continue to happen. Until the IG through his AIGs put pressure and seriously punish erring officers then nothing will change even if you hire Ph.D. holders as constables . They have been punishing and they will continue to punish them but these officers are largely out of control. Na who camera catch them dey sacrifice. Their bosses are in on their excesses, they are part of the system and they climb the ladder up with the same system, nothing will happen. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 6:01pm On Nov 26, 2022 |
Roland17: Absolutely, especially for that sector of the economy. For nearly 8 years now, PMB has not shown he has the basic knowledge of what is going on in that sector, worth more the technical aspects of managing that sector. Are we even assured PMB understands policies presented to him by these advisers? Enough to question it’s components? I have argued in the past that PMB lacks the core competencies of leadership in a democracy and I stand by it. PMB is not new to the oil & gas sector. His policies has largely work as we have stable oil distributions without the frequent fuel scarcity for the larger part of his administration before the queue resurface last year December. It was since then that the matter has deteriorated to this moment. |

OasisX: What's the way out to solving this menace. To be candid, I'll support disbandment of entire police system in Nigeria, NSCDC and Military should take over for a while until new, well trained personnel are brought on board.
System need complete overhaul from top to bottom..... sack dem all and bring new faces, preferably graduates with at least Ordinary National Diploma. The military itself is already overstretched because they are doing the work of the police for them un some states. Another thing is the Nigerian mentality. Give a Nigerian small power and see how he will oppress his fellow citizens. Now add the power of the gun to it. That's the scenario we are in. Those who we are paying tax payers money should do their damn job and finding solution to this mess. |

Roland17: At what point would it be about Buhari’s inability to fully process and understand what is going on in critical sectors of the economy versus his advisers? The President is the minister of petroleum, I expect some sense of direction from him. The buck stops at the President table. This failure is definitely on him. In my other post, I'm talking about the technical advisers who are the oil & gas technocrats that should normally be the one drafting policies and directions for the President to consider. |

OasisX: I went on Google and YouTube to get more details and it's so saddening that kinda brutality happened in daytime.
I don't know when Nigeria Police will move away from archaic checkpoints to patrolling. Honestly I don't understand the essence of mounting checkpoints on the highways, it's not working and it'll definitely can't work.
Nigeria Police need someone like Buba Marwa at this juncture. That Man has performed miracle with NDLEA, even I won't mind him to take up the challenge and fix the police system.
PMB also can't be exonerated. He has helped a lot to equip and repositioning the Military, but apparently he neglects Police Force.
Only RRS seem standard in Nigeria, rest are simply Vigilante 2.0. Izzou.... apologies for misconstrued your post. To bring in someone outside the force to overhead the police force, you will need to amend the Police Act first. Those checkpoints are not to nab criminals, they are for extortion and the reason it's still happening is because the police top echelon cant control their officers. PMB as the chief commander of the armed forces definitely take part of the blame. |
