Years ago, dead Lagos kings were taken to Benin for Burial. Some people own Lagos! Awori people are Yoruba, not Benin. The man that said Awori and Bini are brothers, was simply confused. |

When next you go home, ask your elders about how Ifa saw Oduduwa coming and told the elders at Ife to welcome him, that he will help them. They saw him coming, though some heads of the houses like Obatala put up a resistance and fought to maintain the status quo. Guess who formed awo cults to protest his dominance? Guess where he came from? Guess why there has always been a mythology and story about Oduduwa coming from somewhere in the east? If you believe the recent fabrications to distance now learned Yoruba historians from that Far East migration story, then I am sorry. There is a whole lot of intertwined history with Nupe, Bini, Hausa and Yorubas...especially Nupes than is presently documented. May be you should do some research and inform yourself. Here comes the pseudo-intellectual Igbo boy that wants to lecture others about their history, without any source or proof to back up his claims. I laugh today in Greek.... If some people claim Odu'a migrated frofm IDU to ILE IFE then doesn't it show he developed ILE IFE through such claim? And on the issue of Olusegun Aganga, is just showcasing how people may in the distance future claim things. Ordinarily I don't have any problem with the man in anyway. So, don't get me wrong. If Yoruba want to claim glory on achievement, there will be too much to make as a reference. Why are you fixated on Olusegun Aganga? Is he owing you anything or has he ever made any statement about Bini owning Lagos? NO!! So why do you keep bringing him into this conversation? As for the Bini historians that talk about the history of the Benin people or their empire, have they done anything wrong by recording the history of their people or their culture? Even Yoruba historians like Prof Festus Ade Ajayi and others did so. Did anyone raise any dust? So why does the chronicle of history by Benin historians trouble you so much? Didn't the christian missionaries, foreign scholars, Portuguese scholars, merchants and colonial masters also write about the history of different places in Nigeria?? onyinyenwadigbo: The hate and hold him down syndrome is what is killing this country. Igbo adage says "onye ji mmadu na ani ji onwe ya" meaning" he who holds someone on the ground is also held on the ground".
Let the leaders and their praise singers liberate Lagos by opening up other states and you will see Lagos indigenes and yorubas enjoy the state. But as far as they continue to support injustice against others and want every thing development brought to Lagos, then, it will get worse. Nobody is holding down other states, or stopping them from developing. The problem is that most of the states have a record of electing clueless leaders who lack the vision, intellect and purpose, to develop their states. Look at Akwa Ibom, when they elected Akpabio. He did not start lamenting about how Lagos underdeveloped his state. He rolled up his sleeves and set to work. By the time he left, his state had a world class stadium, an airport, good road infrastructure etc. Same thing happened when Duke got to Calabar. Lagos had also been lucky to get visionary leaders like Fashola, Ambode etc with a passion to develop the state, and execute plans to improve its infrastructure. Until the people within your state do the same, by electing visionary capable leaders, and holding such leaders accountable for the development of their state, progress will not be made. And you will keep blaming Lagos for your woes! |

PointB: Saying Lagos is "No man's land" does not in anyway means we are neglecting the East/Homeland. The idea is to maximize the benefit of Lagos to develop the East.
We must not lose sight of our contributions in Lagos, yet we must capitalize on the gains of those contribution to develop our homeland. We can't just pack up and leave Lagos, nor can anyone run us out of our investments in the growth Lagos. That's why we say "Lagos is No Man's Land." And that's what it will remain in the foreseeable future if Nigeria continue to exist as it is now! Oga, cut the crap. You people say Lagos is a no man's land, simply because you want to spite the indigenes of Lagos, their cultural siblings and other ethnic groups living there. And by saying so, you create enmity between the indigenes, those who share cultural affinity with them and others from different ethnic groups like mine, who have lived there for ages. This is because the Lagos indigenes and Yorubas, then end up viewing the rest of us from other places with hostility and suspicion, even though we have nothing in common with Igbo people like you, who make such asinine statements! Don't make life difficult for others, with your clueless remarks, biko. Some of us value good relations with our neighbours, even if the rest of you do not. koning: I very much doubt if you are Igbo with this azz-licking and ridiculous heading. You could simply ask Igbos to invest in Igbo land without having to bring up the issue of Lagos into it.
Lagos has never been a Yoruba Land. 97% of Yorubas in lagos are immigrants just like the Igbos, Hausas, Binis and other SS peoples. It is and will always remain a cosmopolitan entity for the entire nation. Yorubas are more in Lagos because of the proximity of core Yoruba states to Lagos.
Igbos are many there because of our ubiquitous and adventurous nature.
Igbos should invest more in Igbo states. I agree. But that has nothing to do with Lagos being 'no man's land'. Stop sucking up to Yorubas. that is if you are actually Igbo. If you say Lagos has never been Yoruba land, it shows that you know absolutely NOTHING about the history, origin and culture of Lagos. Even a child in kindergarten who lives within the city, would not make such asinine comments. |

gare: Are the Ports operational ? No. In Rivers start there are two sea ports, one in Onne and the other in port Harcourt main town in Delta state there are two sea ports one in Warri the other in koko, in Calabar we have another sea Port, but still successive governments will not make them operational.
I keep saying Lagos been what it is today is because of the sea ports and the international airport, elementary social studies taught us that when setting up a business you should consider access to transportation, Lagos has both the sea and air. That's is why a lot of the businesss are sited in Lagos.
But if the federal government could decentralise the sea port and make the others operational then you will see the massive development taking place in other regions and Lagos will be less populated. And there will be more jobs Oga, go back and read through this entire thread. Out of all the ports you mentioned, Onne seaport and Port-harcourt port, are functional. Please stop the long epistles. Importers who have used those ports have come on this board, to confirm it. Calabar and Warri need to be dredged, which is why they are not operational. Now that Amaechi an SS/SE man is the transport minister, everything about the ports falls within his brief. Tell him to correct the situation. Kema Chikwe and Ojo Maduekwe were Ministers of Transport who had enough time and powers to correct the situation with the ports in your region. Did they do it? No. But your people will never blame them or hold them accountable for their failures. Please stop blaming Lagos sea ports for the lack of development in other regions! There is an international airport in Port-harcourt and another in Enugu, which record international flights daily! So where do you get your stories from??! |

Matrilineal succession in Nembe has to do with inheritance. It has got absolutely nothing to do with marriages. Traditional marriages in Nembe is patrilineal(or whatever you call it). The father remains the head of the house, and he is the one that gives his daughter out in marriage according to his customs and tradition. It is DIFFERENT from Matrilineal SUCCESSION, which is a different topic entirely as the later relates to mode of inheritance. Thank you Hello, I think you need to go back and read all the responses I made regarding the Nembe people. It was the person I replied to, who stated that " The matrilineal succession rites and customs has to do with giving the bride's mother what's due her before the girl is married off." I did not make that statement. My point was that Nembe culture should not be regarded as patriarchal, since it has a good dose of matrilineal succession rites in it. |
