booscy: So long as the Onne, Warri, Calabar and other sea and river Ports are not fully functional, Murtala Mohammed international Airport remains the primary hub for airlines coming into Nigeria, the railway isn't fully functional, this overcrowding and traffic congestion issue will remain perpetual.
Lagos has been structured to retain almost all the economic headquarters in the country and this is one of the consequences, others include;
Perpetual Pollution issues High Accommodation costs Man made disasters etc
Onne port is fully functional. Please don't mislead people. After Tincan, Onne has the next highest volume of shipping traffic in Nigeria. |

Ugosample: this is a silly comment to make
Warri would have been a relatively safe city rivalling Lagos it has a port And many Oil Coys were anchored there
But when the myopic, short sighted and stupid youths and people began there kidnaps; harassment and creating an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity many fled to lagos the companies fled to Lagos
Port Harcourt has taken that same self destructive route with "devee" ; harassment, cultism etc in the state many have fled to Lagos and Abuja as well. now port Harcourt is quick descending into a poohole
Kano and Kaduna would have easily been rivals to Lagos But ethni religious crisis and violence have made many flee Kano and Kaduna to Abuja and some to Lagos assuming Kano and Kaduna were not time bombs, many youths would have been moving there as an alternative to Lagos as was done in the 1980s
what about onitsha? onitsha used to be a nest of vipers kidnapping robberies etc our people fled to Lagos built homes and opened their businesses in Alaba
tho now things have improved greatly and peoole are now moving to onitsha even night life and shoprite and other businesses for leisure like that are springing up would this have been the case 15 years ago?
what of Aba being a cesspit ruined by successive state govt there?
Lagos is receiving all these crowd and investment because of the relative safety (I said relative) and businesses are setting up there, and if course the relative tolerance it has created opportunities for many
But the moment Lagos adopts the self destructive path other cities have adopted in Nigeria people and businesses will flee to Abuja
so before we talk we need to go to the root of the matter to understand why Lagos is congested.
not all the emotional excuses some are giving Thank you for this beautiful analysis! You said it all, and you said it well.... Pato5: I agree with u but developing other states takes determination and commitment from those states so till that happens let Lagos stakeholders work to make Lagos better. Exactly! But the governors of other states are not willing to put in the hard work that is needed to develop their states. Many collect allocations and it disappears into thin air. Others frustrate any private initiative at development because of their petty myopic mindset. May God save us all. |

Is it everyone living in Lagos, that has earns a living through the seaports? Lagos is a commercial capital, for goodness sake. Does Onne not have a functional seaport? Why hasn't it grown to become as densely populated as Lagos? uuzba: Who does the development? As a guy, I believe you can arrange your house. If power reach, can do your compound. If you still have energy, you need to gather your neighbours/association and fix up your street. You need to be a heavy big boy to fix up your estate. And that's the highest power a single fellow has The state roads are in the hands of the government and if those roads remain erroded and impassable, vehicles and business cannot function. That's why people will still run out and back to Lagos. Other state governments need develop their states as individuals cannot do this Thank you, o! If other states took the development of their capital and major towns seriously, the influx of people into Lagos would decrease. Look at Ogun state border towns like Alagbado, Sango Otta, Agbara etc. They witness the same heavy influx of traffic, too. Part of it is caused by the population spill from Lagos to those towns. But those areas are poorly planned and tightly packed. The governor of Ogun has not thought of carrying out an urban renewal exercise, in those areas to make it conducive for the residents, and reduce the flow of traffic. |

TheAutoReporter: Whats your take? Will they maintain this edifice?
See an overview of this new TinCan Truck park... exclusive pictures
https://www.autoreportng.com/2019/08/apapa-gridlock-presidential-task-force.html The size of the truck park is my concern. It is still too small. The trucks on our roads are in excess of 2,000. So this park will only take a fraction of them off the roads. Secondly, truck drivers and motor boys are a notoriously dirty lot. A competent facilty management company, needs to manage this edifice to ensure it remains clean and efficient. Thirdly, this kind of park needs to be built along Orile axis, as well as Mile 2 side. About 5 of these facilities should also be built in different parts of Lagos, with electronic call up equipment, changing rooms, toilets, baths etc all inclusive. If this is done, then traffic along Apapa axis can be curtailed, as a substantial number of trucks will no longer be parked along the roads, but will now be domiciled inside such facilities. |

gidgiddy: In modern day Nigeria, Yorubas dont have the backbone to fight for their own independence nation like Igbos once fought for Biafra.
There are things that Yorubas are good at, rising up to fight Nigeria for their sovereignty like Igbos once did is beyond Yorubas.
They are simply not made of that stuff. That's why they keep saying that Ojukwu ran away, to divert attention from the fact that 0jukwu did what no Yoruba man can ever do. To rise up and declare the independence and sovereignty of his people and fight Nigeria for for 3 years to keep it is no small feat.
A Yoruba can never ever do it. But if it is noise making, it will be a simple feat gidgiddy: These are the things that the real cowards who can never rise up and fight like to say so as to hide the fact that they are spineless cowards who can never lift a finger to fight for their sovereignty.
It is better for us Igbos to lose 3 million souls in our quest for freedom than to be spineless Yorubas who can never fight for their freedom even in a thousand years.
There is nothing like preventing war when it comes to freedom. Its either you fight for your freedom and hope for the best or you become someone's slave.
We Igbos proudly fought for our freedom, something the Yoruba nation can never ever do You still think everything is all about fight, fight, fight! In these days of ever increasing knowledge, strategy will always beat fighting any day, and adopting the right strategy can give you victory, without ever having to fight a war. Go and read Sun Tzu's book 'The Art of War.' Then come back and tell us what you learnt. “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” — Sun Tzu |

Most Igbos would rather prefer an Ojukwu who fought for 3 years for the freedom of him and his people and ran away than a Yoruba man who can never fight for his freedom for even 3 minutes to even even talk about getting to the stage of running away I don't know about the Yoruba men you are talking about, but the ones I have seen will devise a strategy to get even with their enemies, without ever having to fight. That is true wisdom. Fighting often results, when the principal parties lack wisdom, foresight and strategy to end a conflict. Fear those who can inflict maximum damage on you, without firing a shot, or engaging in physical battles with you. It is a testament to Ojukwu's eternal shame, that he was bereft of wisdom that he could have deployed to prevent the war, and yet he went ahead to lose over 3 million people in the war and still ran away instead of protecting them to the end. H100: Talking about the mistakes to avoid when searching for Job is all about proving your worth and working to earn the position, rather than waiting for an opportunity to fall on our lap.Be consistent, persistent and take a targeted approach. ...
– Searching Alone
Gaining help from other people could make your job search more efficient, more successful and less stressful.
– Non-ATS compliant CV/Resume. ( See Compliant Sample) Someone may say hey, forget that ATS stuff, they are the equivalent of black holes that gets nobody nowhere. but if you must know that whatever is worth doing is worth doing well
– Indeed, LinkedIn Profile is incomplete and lacks a summary plus Nairaland and other forum or blog comments lack seriousness – CV/Resume and Platform Profiles are not aligned. – Unfocused networking and Application.[/b] Eg. If looking for role in construction, don’t waste time sending your CV/Resume to bankers..... – No contact with recruiters. Some applicants respond to emails from recruiters terribly late, sometimes, after over a year. Then they are surprised when the job has been filled. You have to participate in the process.
read more: https://onegoodhead.com/mistakes-avoid-searching-job/ So LinkedIn profile is now the gold standard for recruitment?? Why do people come up with this ridiculous rules? Do you realise that the best jobs are hardly ever advertised? What if the candidate is not even on LinkedIn? Does LinkedIn itself cross-check anything you put in your profile??
And no candidate will respond to a recruiter one year after! How can? What happens is that some job boards continually repost these vacancies repeatedly, without putting an expiry date on them. By the time an applicant sees it and applies, he then gets to knows that the vacancy has been filled. Job boards and recruiters need to devise a way to stop old job adverts from appearing online on their sites, or to devise a notification that alerts the job seeker that the role has been filled, before he attempts to apply for it. |

Police report for an accident,? What is the officer going to write in the crime diary, will he also fill a docket and open a criminal case file also? The.truth is, the police officer knows the consiquences of issuing out any report with police letter headed paper,
Oga go and contact your lawyer to sharply write a petition or instigate a law suit, and make sure you report your insurer to their regulatory body if indeed your claims cover such freak accident. What offence has the insurance company committed? He has not filed a claim yet, and in order to do so,he must submit a police report along with his insurance claim forms, after it has been filled. Pictures of the damaged car also need to be attached. But, he needs to specify what kind of insurance cover he has on the car. Is it comprehensive or third party? The police men are the one stalling the process. Look, I advise him to look for an AIG or DIG in any of the Police Command formations in charge of the area, where the incident happened. Then he should lay bare the facts of the incident and make a formal request for a police report. He should ensure that his request is acknowledged by any officer in the police station, who receives it. Next, he should approach one of these troublesome NGOs to ask for their support. Then with their help, he can splash the details of the incident all over social media. Hopefully it will go viral and the police will be forced to act! |

7lives: One of King Kosoko's defense cheif was my mother's great grandfather, he is called Balogun Agoro Iposun. The British exiled Kosoko to Epe after the war, Kosoko and Balogun Agoro went to stay in Epe. The Balogun was the one who stopped the Ijaws and the Mahins from annexing Epe. The Ijaws too are great warriors, they have been attacking Epe from the waters, trying to annex the coastlines on that axis, but they met their Waterloo when they met Balogun Agoro Iposun, they were drowned at a place called ITEBU, that place is called eyin osa, at Ibeju Lekki are of Lagos State today. The remaining Ijaw armies on water fled in their boats, Balogun Agoro told his soldiers not to pursue them. The Balogun told his soldiers that they cannot venture TOO DEEP into the water, because he had no idea of the size of the Ijaw army on the other side of the water. And so they continue to wait for the agressors, to come back, having take charge of every other available route. The Ijaws knows what awaits them in Epe, they NEVER return. Go to Afero village today in Epe, you will see long WALL of sand that were used as defense formation, where guards were positioned, to keep eye on the invaders and quickly nip it in the bud. Only intelligent people fight war like this, not some suicidal morrons, facing gun shots with cutlasses. Thank you for taking them to history class, peace. Wow!! Great piece of history. It needs to be documented in books, and relayed through films. Balogun Agoro should be given his rightful place, in history. In fact, further reading about the bombardment of Lagos in 1851, shows that the expedition launched by the British Naval forces under Commander Forbes, was an attack party made up of 306 officers, men, marines and sailors aboard HMS Bloodhound along with 21 boats. Though Bloodhound sustained heavy canon fire from the shore, a landing party went ashore but met very stiff resistance. Kosoko was able to hold his ground and repel them. By the time the British forces came back a 2nd time in December 1851, they had reinforced their attack party, with 3 more armed boats. Yet, Kosoko was still able to hold them at bay for 3 fierce days, before his army caved in. That battle is referred to as "Ogun Ahoyaya/Ogun Agidingbi" (I hope I got the spelling right). Captain Jones led the attack party consisting HMS Bloodhound, HMS Teaser, a flotilla of boats including The Victoria and The Harlequien equipped with overwhelming fighting power engaged Kosoko in a battle lasting three days.
Kosoko put up a very stiff resistance however the Royal Navy's superior firepower won the day. Kosoko and his leading chiefs fled Lagos for Epe on December 28, 1851.
According to Samuel Davies, a Saro and younger brother of JPL Davies who participated on the British side aboard HMS Bloodhound, Kosoko would have inflicted great losses on the Royal Navy had he not relied solely on static defenses but had deployed his war canoes with their swivel guns.
The British sustained 15 casualties and 75 wounded men. A young JPL Davies was among the wounded. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reduction_of_Lagos |
