For the umpteenth time, the rational question should be what is the purpose of the ‘requirement’ and could the purpose be satisfied in other ways? Accordingly, if people cannot do “oil field work” without overalls (presumably for safety reasons) then the response would be ‘no’ that it cannot be satisfied otherwise. However, (1) when oil company workers leave their “field work” they are NOT required to wear same overall in the offices, and (2) this woman was most definitely NOT engaged in anything remotely resembling “field work” (I already noted that it makes sense to wear appropriate attire for training and drills).

Sadly, this mentality to mindlessly “obey the last order” and the attendant elevation of rules for its sake instead of for its purpose betrays the dearth of initiative and lack of disruptive innovation so pervasive in Nigeria.>

So if she can wear trousers as part of the overall kit for working in an oil field, or as part of her training gear for carrying out physical exercises or drill, does that mean her religious inclination or service takes a French leave, during the period whenever she wears such trousers? shocked

Kindly spot the hypocrisy in such a woman's attitude.

My take aways from this long article are:
Most of the people that helped Ojukwu were Yorubas.

Ojukwu actually disguised to escape. Infact he went into hiding and had to be helped by good samarithans.
Before now I used to think people were just saying it to taunt him.

Another one is that Ojukwu' son still trembles whenever he sees lightning or hears thunder blast because of the experience he had about 50yrs ago during the war.
The sumary is that war is never an option to disagrement s. Dialogue is the best option.

It is the khaki trousers, the khaki jacket and NYSC emblazoned T-Shirt or plain white T-Shirt. sad

It has not been changed, and is unlikely to be altered to suit the whims, caprices and self-indulgent religious desires of a beffudled few participants. It is not by force to serve. sad

Moreover, the NYSC bears the cost of those uniforms. They have more important things to spend their budgets on, rather than some unimportant additional skirts for some misguided participants, who do not want to obey the rules.

Purchasing and distributing additional skirts as part of NYSC uniforms do not make sense, when the organisation is trying to use its allocation, judiciously. angry

The pictures you posted are dress uniforms for foreign armed forces, which are worn on social occasions, during parades, patrols, in the officers mess, or during desk duties.

Combatant uniform does not permit skirts for women.

There are specific rules and periods, which dictate when such skirts can be worn.

You are trying to make it seem as if skirts are accepted in all events, as part of armed forces uniform.

It is not. It is restricted to specific events, certain cadres and specific duties.

The NYSC unlike the armed forces does not have a cadet corps, or an officers corp. Every participant is the same. undecided

Which is why all participant dress alike in the same uniform.

And till now, there is no reason to change the khaki trousers worn by the corp members into a skirt. sad

Furthermore, you are focusing SOLELY on this one case rather than the concept that being discussed (which admittedly would encompass this one particular case but stretches well beyond it), but there used to be rules and regulations for where people could serve (or more precisely not serve) in the NYSC until it was changed to ACCOMMODATE reasonable matrimonial and other familial realities. For the umpteenth time, these rules and regulations are not bequeathed by Omnipotence but are made by civil/public servants and thus could be reasonably changed to accommodate reasonable realities.

What you have CONSISTENTLY failed to explain is exactly how changing the rules to accommodate skirts (that would be regulated in exactly the same manners as pants currently are) would INFRINGE on other corpers - except to keep repeating that it would be “different” as if difference is inherently a bad thing. SMH

Wearing a uniform does not mean that everyone must dress identically, but rather uniformly, as can be seen in the picture of military uniforms that I previously posted (in other words, it merely requires uniformity in respect of all persons wearing the same attire). Accordingly, the NYSC can regulate the sort of skirts that a corper should - just as corpers are not permitted to wear just any kind of pants. She can still wear a skirt and use pants (or other appropriate outfit) for physical training.

Oga, skirts are not part of the NYSC approved uniform. So stop comparing apples with oranges. The NYSC rules are clear, on what is acceptable to be worn as the uniform.
