9jaRealist: Again, people read but don’t seem to comprehend...
For the umpteenth time, the rational question should be what is the purpose of the ‘requirement’ and could the purpose be satisfied in other ways? Accordingly, if people cannot do “oil field work” without overalls (presumably for safety reasons) then the response would be ‘no’ that it cannot be satisfied otherwise. However, (1) when oil company workers leave their “field work” they are NOT required to wear same overall in the offices, and (2) this woman was most definitely NOT engaged in anything remotely resembling “field work” (I already noted that it makes sense to wear appropriate attire for training and drills).
Sadly, this mentality to mindlessly “obey the last order” and the attendant elevation of rules for its sake instead of for its purpose betrays the dearth of initiative and lack of disruptive innovation so pervasive in Nigeria.> So if she can wear trousers as part of the overall kit for working in an oil field, or as part of her training gear for carrying out physical exercises or drill, does that mean her religious inclination or service takes a French leave, during the period whenever she wears such trousers? Kindly spot the hypocrisy in such a woman's attitude. |

franchasng: You seem to have comprehension issue, I will reply you.
Ojukwu did left Biafra when it became obvious Biafra wasn't going to win the war with the heavy air raids from British piloted air bombers, so top military advisers to Ojukwu advised him to leave in order for his vice to surrender Biafra to save Biafran children from further starvation. And nobody has ever said Ojukwu did not flee, my uncle was Ojukwu's close ally and adviser then.
Even France King Henry flee from France and went to UK when German soldiers invaded France and was about taking over France.
Queen Elizabeth of England also flee from London when Germany raided London and razed London to ashes in 1946 world war II.
British Prime Minister Chamberlain also flee from London.
Russian Stalin also flee from Moscow to another city when German Nazi invaded Russia.
Italian Muslini flee from Rome when Allied forces was about taken over Italy towards end of world ear II.
Almighty Hitler had to disguise and flee from Berlin when Allied forces invaded Germany and he saw that Germany was about to lose the war in 1949.
Only fools fight to die on the battlefield, wise people fight to live for another day. So Ojukwu did normal thing every head of state of nation at war does when the war intensifies.
Didn't you hear that Gowon had already packed his loads and was about relocating Nigerian government to Kaduna when Biafran soldiers approached Sagamu
And Yorubas didn't shelter Ojukwu at any time because Ojukwu was a Governor at Eastern Nigeria in Enugu. It was Philip Effiong's family that got sheltered by their Yoruba family friends and colleagues when Philip Effiong was fighting for his way back from Kaduna to Eastern Nigeria, so try and read properly next time.
And did you expect the family of a former regional governor cum head of state of Biafra to be starving when Ojukwu's father was the richest man in Africa before the war broke out
Ojukwu's father founded Nigerian Stock Exchange through one man, I have forgotten the mans name.
So they were like Dangote family of today. Ok, so this your long epistle is to justify Ojukwu's flight from Biafra, and his abandonment of his people. Oga, I never said the Yorubas sheltered Ojukwu. Go back and read my previous post again. I fit borrow you my contact lens make you take check am .... Ojukwu was the son of one of the richest men, yet he didn't use those riches to get food for the masses in Biafra? And what on earth gave you the impression, that ".... Gowon had already packed his loads and was about relocating Nigerian government to Kaduna when Biafran soldiers approached Sagamu " Where did you hear that fairytale? Or was it part of the Biafran propaganda machinery of falsehood? The same Gowon that had a superior military force at his beck and call, adequate supply of ammunition, well-trained soldiers, the backing of foreign countries steadily supplying him with arms, adequate fighter jets under his command....that same Gowon would suddenly pack his bags in order to flee to ..... where again? Can you just listen to yourself?? |

Biety: My take aways from this long article are: Most of the people that helped Ojukwu were Yorubas.
Ojukwu actually disguised to escape. Infact he went into hiding and had to be helped by good samarithans. Before now I used to think people were just saying it to taunt him.
Another one is that Ojukwu' son still trembles whenever he sees lightning or hears thunder blast because of the experience he had about 50yrs ago during the war. The sumary is that war is never an option to disagrement s. Dialogue is the best option. We should learn from the past to avoid repeating foolish mistakes. Hmmnn....this is enlightening. So Trimnell's in-laws were Yoruba people. So Yoruba people sheltered Igbos, during the war. So Ojukwu's men, family and children were well-fed during the war, while the families of ordinary civilians were left to starve. So Ojukwu' did not go to Ivory Coast in search of peace, like he said. He went to avoid getting caught. So Ironsi made Effiong a scapegoat, instead of acting on Military Intelligence in a way that could have prevented the first coup. So Ojukwu's absconded from Biafra, without thinking about those who had fought under his command, until his deputy forced him to carry his (Effiong's) family along; So Ojukwu stubbornly ignored the wise counsel of elders and professionals in Biafra, So right from the onset, Ojukwu knew that the Biafran forces were ill-equipped to face the federal forces on the battlefield, but he still went to war and ended up playing ludo, with the lives of 3 million people, in the old Eastern region; In fact, this historical account about life inside Biafra is one of the best I have ever read..... Wey my zobo?? God will punish all those spreading propaganda about the war.... |

It’s NOT happenstance that I specifically chose a pic with DIFFERENT types of female uniforms. > 9jaRealist: BTW, was the lady in that you are specifically obsessed with in the clip undergoing “drills”? > You are still arguing blindly, sir. NYSC has an approved uniform that can be worn for drills, community service, operational activities or even to appear before the authorities. It is the khaki trousers, the khaki jacket and NYSC emblazoned T-Shirt or plain white T-Shirt. It has not been changed, and is unlikely to be altered to suit the whims, caprices and self-indulgent religious desires of a beffudled few participants. It is not by force to serve. Moreover, the NYSC bears the cost of those uniforms. They have more important things to spend their budgets on, rather than some unimportant additional skirts for some misguided participants, who do not want to obey the rules. Purchasing and distributing additional skirts as part of NYSC uniforms do not make sense, when the organisation is trying to use its allocation, judiciously. 9jaRealist: All over the world, military uniforms may also include skirts... She can still wear a skirt and use pants (or other appropriate outfit) for physical training.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ea/US-NEW-CLASS-A-UNIFORM.png > If she can still wear trousers for physical training or other drills, then she is nothing more than a hypocrite. As a female, if you would NOT wear trousers for religious reasons, but you would rather wear a skirt, does your religion then take a French leave whenever you wear trousers for physical training or drills, only for you to later switch to a skirt? Or let me put it this way: A woman who can wear skirts for religious reasons, but discards such skirts later for a pair of trousers during physical exercises, man-of-war drills etc, in order to avoid indecent exposure is a hypocrite. |

When women are undergoing recruitment exercises, drills or even carrying out physical training in the armed forces, they do not wear skirts. They are also expected to be wearing shorts or trousers on the field, carrying out physical fitness exercises. The pictures you posted are dress uniforms for foreign armed forces, which are worn on social occasions, during parades, patrols, in the officers mess, or during desk duties. Combatant uniform does not permit skirts for women. There are specific rules and periods, which dictate when such skirts can be worn. You are trying to make it seem as if skirts are accepted in all events, as part of armed forces uniform. It is not. It is restricted to specific events, certain cadres and specific duties. The NYSC unlike the armed forces does not have a cadet corps, or an officers corp. Every participant is the same. Which is why all participant dress alike in the same uniform. And till now, there is no reason to change the khaki trousers worn by the corp members into a skirt. All your long epistles will not alter this fact. |

9jaRealist: I see now you are using “bent” to give it a negative connotation...
Furthermore, you are focusing SOLELY on this one case rather than the concept that being discussed (which admittedly would encompass this one particular case but stretches well beyond it), but there used to be rules and regulations for where people could serve (or more precisely not serve) in the NYSC until it was changed to ACCOMMODATE reasonable matrimonial and other familial realities. For the umpteenth time, these rules and regulations are not bequeathed by Omnipotence but are made by civil/public servants and thus could be reasonably changed to accommodate reasonable realities.
What you have CONSISTENTLY failed to explain is exactly how changing the rules to accommodate skirts (that would be regulated in exactly the same manners as pants currently are) would INFRINGE on other corpers - except to keep repeating that it would be “different” as if difference is inherently a bad thing. SMH > Oga you are just arguing blindly on a subject that is irrelevant. Wearing a pair of trousers is not a health hazard, that can be minimised or mitigated by wearing a skirt. Secondly, the lady's defiant attitude in altering the uniform without seeking permission, portrays her as an indisciplined person. If you like, keep ranting from today till tomorrow, NYSC uniform is not going to change. The khaki trouser will not give way automatically to a skirt, to please the idiosyncratic whims and religious fancies, of some faceless females. And all your long epistles will not change it. If they don't like the NYSC uniform, it is not by force for them to serve. Let them boycott the scheme. I have already told you earlier why changing the trousers to a skirt would affect other participants of the scheme. Let me repost it here: laudate: What is unreasonable about wearing trousers?? By wearing skirts, she gives other participants in the scheme the impression that the laws can be bent to suit her idiosyncrasies.
What is the purpose of a uniform? To create equality. When members of a designated unit are dressed alike, that unhealthy competitive feeling about looks and image, are eliminated. :-\
So why create a breach by letting participants of the scheme tamper with the uniform? I repeat, that lady would make a very bad employee, as she cannot follow simple rules and she is trying to tamper with the rule and bend it to suit her selfish desires. |

9jaRealist: Strawman’s Argument... Wearing skirts do not render pants “unreasonable” nor vice versa.
Wearing a uniform does not mean that everyone must dress identically, but rather uniformly, as can be seen in the picture of military uniforms that I previously posted (in other words, it merely requires uniformity in respect of all persons wearing the same attire). Accordingly, the NYSC can regulate the sort of skirts that a corper should - just as corpers are not permitted to wear just any kind of pants. Nigerians have to learn to think outside-the-box in an increasingly diverse society. The era of being mindlessly Zombies should have been confined to our past. > NYSC has not changed the uniform or altered it, to accommodate skirts, as there is no need to do so. I asked you earlier, is there anything she can do wearing a skirt, that she cannot do while wearing trousers? You have not provided a coherent answer. Instead, you continue whining about reasonable requests, and drawing untenable comparisons. Why you are now advocating for an item of dressing to be changed is rather frivolous. It is not about being a zombie. It is about the purpose for which the uniform was designed. If she had to do man-o'-war exercises during orientation camp, by climbing the ropes and jumping under the poles, would she be able to do so wearing a skirt? Not likely. Those under the rope bridge would see her undies, in all its colourful glory. And in order to avoid such a situation, I bet she would try to avoid taking part in such exercises. Another contravention of the rules. Even during physical exercises in secondary schools, you still find girls who wear skirts for PE, making sure they wear shorts or leggings under such skirts, to avoid indecent exposure. So why bother with the skirts in the 1st place? |

9jaRealist: The problem is that some of you are too jaundiced to be reasonable... Bet if this was a Born-Again “Christian” the vitriol would not be so strident.
There’s NOWHERE that I campaigned for (nor even implied that) anyone to break the rules... My point has CONSISTENTLY been that reasonable accommodations be made for reasonable observances.
But instead of hearing RATIONAL responses... All one hears is that “rules are rules” as if rules exist in a vacuum (or are bequeathed by Omnipotence). If rules were bent to suit the whims and fancy of each participant, what would be the result? Chaos. Rules are made to enforce order, maintain discipline, and achieve certain outcomes. Asking for rules to be bent so that you can wear a skirt, instead of the approved khaki pair of trousers, is nothing short of frivolous. If there were health grounds to justify such a request, then it might make a bit of sense. But trying to bend the rules out of a misguided sense of religiosity, is the height of indiscipline. There is nothing rational about her act of indiscipline. It doesn't matter if she is born again, born before or born afterwards. Nobody gave her approval to wear a skirt. There is even no indication that she had sought for permission beforehand from the authorities to do so. She chose to discard the approved uniform, and invent her own outfit. What is that called, if not breaking the rules? Let her live with the consequences of her actions. |
