I still don't understand why people are saying Awolowo introduced tribalism to Nigerian polity. In the early life of a multi ethnic nation, every tribe is ruled by their own person. So the yorubas should have allowed Zik to rule them or what.
See to me anybody pointing accusing finger here is a tribalist. We are different tribe with different interest so this things are bound to happen. And when Zik betrayed Awolowo, I could have viewed that too as tribalism but no he did what he had to at the time.
This whole tribal arguement and stuff is only a proof that we are not ready to grow.
When Zik went to the East, and asked Eyo Ita a Calabar man, to vacate the seat of Premier of the Eastern region for him, if the Calabar people had interpreted it as tribalism, what would Zik's supporters have done?

*SIGH* I don't have time to waste explaining myself to you, I simply pointed out how my Yoruba staffs were culpable for breaching company policies by introducing disgusting tribalism (it wasn't just Igbos that were complaining, most of my Non-Nigerian staffs also did on several occasions), the usual stereotype about Nigerians been too loud, rude, and haughty were reinforced by Nigerians, majority of whom were Yorubas. Once again use your brain, the Edo guy who complained to me didn't generalize all yorubas as bad and uncouth, he only made a point of the tribalistic tendencies of many of the Yoruba staffs towards Non-yorubas. You don't know me, my relationship with Yorubas or my views about them so don't come here and make silly innuendos cause you don't know me dude.

On a side note (not that it matters anyway cause your antecedents of facetious bias is an open book here), why are you accusing me of been jaundiced in my views about Yorubas? Why are you not condemning the Yorubas here who are also guilty of ethnic baiting and stereotyping Igbos negatively? Your hypocrisy stinks to high heavens mate.
No one is accusing you of bring jaundiced towards Yorubas, because there is no need for them to do so, since your posts and comments clearly show your prejudice against them. undecided

So why are you trying to deny it now? Right from your very first post, you complained about the Yoruba women who spoke in their language in your workplace, and ascribed it to tribalism.

Have you forgotten you said this?
BaaleOko:
.....When the line was crossed was when tribalism was introduced to my agency courtesy of yorubas, your people were most culpable for some of the most disgusting actions that definitely broke the scale of professional tolerance... and I noticed these insecurities were most profound around and towards the Igbo staffs, calling Igbos "Awon ajaokuta ma mo mi" "Awon Okoro" when bonding together in their clannish sessions was the deal breaker for me... when I had it up to my neck was when some idiot started to ask her Co-staff in Yoruba why an Igbo boy was in charge... the b1tch didn't know I overheard her, plus I unfortunately for her understood Yoruba very well... that became the beginning of her many nightmares to come until she quit, or in more succinct terms "got written up and fired".
Then you used the remarks of a faceless Edo staff of yours', who said they were sneaky to validate the distaste you have for them. You even said in your own words that "it is official." sad

You also gleefully described how you got those women's infractions written up, and they were sacked. undecided

Now, you are coming in here to say: "You don't know me, my relationship with Yorubas or my views about them so don't come here and make silly innuendos...." Guy, are you for real? After all you said openly about them in your previous posts? shocked Everyone can see clearly how much you detest them!

The only hypocrisy on this board is oozing out of your keyboard, because you are so riled that support for your anti-Yoruba views, is not coming from all angles, including mine. undecided

Don't worry, some members of your clan, will soon step in to give you the support you need, if that will make you happy. cheesy

Guy, kindly do me a favour and save your illogical responses for folks like you who fail to understand that the good, the bad, and the ugly exist in each and every tribe or ethnic group, both in the workplace and outside it. angry

Like I pointed out to you earlier, if the shoe had been on the other foot, and those women were Igbo in a Yoruba dominated work environment, they would have done the same thing. sad

Now, kindly take your good self out of my mentions, if that is not too much to ask, and direct your epistles at someone else. Thank you.

Not sure if you are dyslexic, or just the type to jump the gun without first READING and COMPREHENDING... otherwise you woulld have actually understood the difference between an individual opinion expressed by SOMEBODY, and the tangetial rubbish you just wrote that completely took a wide detour from what I implied. Once again if you take or took your time to read and understand context clues, you will know there's a cognitive difference between an Edo PERSON and Edo PEOPLE ... the Edo person in question comes from Auchi in Edo North, maybe you are right about the Yoruba and Edo historical relationship, but these very individual had his personal reasons for having such opinion about the yorubas who work at my company (note that I didn't say all Edos dislike Yorubas, before you twist my post out of context), this was just an individual perception based on the nasty attitude of yorubas towards anyone not from their tribe(I already addressed the problems like insulting other people in Yoruba and all that petty tribal nonsense).
Oga, you are the one who actually fails to understand the difference between an individual opinion expressed by SOMEBODY, which is why you quoted the Edo staff's comments, to support your jaundiced view, and stereotypes. undecided

The Edo staff you quoted mentioned that Yorubas are sneaky, and you took his or her word as the gospel truth, which was why you repeated his/her words to validate your stories about how badly you were treated by those women sad

A few women gossiped about you in your company, and you took it to mean that was how all Yorubas behaved. It is the kind of bad stereotyping you have just done, that makes the rest of us non-Yorubas look bad in the sight of those southwestern people. undecided

So are you trying to imply that Igbos in a company dominated by Yoruba people, would never gossip about their Yoruba boss, in the way those women did about you? Of course, they would. sad

So stop using the activities of a few women to paint every member of their tribe, in a bad light.

Anyway, wetin concern me? huh Na so una dey do. Oya, let those who want to continue badmouthing each other, continue ... cheesy

Exactly! shocked I am tired of preaching to Nigerian HR people about the need for feedback. Yet, they call themselves professionals.

Even when you hire them to carry out a recruitment exercise for you as a client, they end up frustrating you. angry
Jobs/VacanciesRe: My Experience As A Recruiter-chika Uwazie @chikauwazie by laudate:
DaBogu:
I am going to share my experience as a recruiter, hiring executive assistants for several clients. Some may not like what I have to say, but I can only speak my truth.

Do we have a major youth unemployment problem in Nigeria, yes we do. While there is a challenge of not enough positions aligned with educated youths, as a recruiter I have seen there is a portion of the youth that is not serious about employment. Almost a sense of entitlement.

Many Nigerian youths have access to data and social media. That is how people find me and apply to jobs. I would think during your idle time, you would take time and teach yourself new skills and level up. Unfortunately this is not the case for many candidates I interview.

Let's say I have 10 candidates that I want to interview. Only 5 of them will respond to my initial interview. The other 5 candidates never respond.

Out of the 5 candidates that respond to my email, only three of them will be able to demonstrate knowledge of excel and PowerPoint.

Once I meet them in person, two candidates will call me the day of the interview with one long story basically saying they can not come to the interview, and only one candidate will actually be ready to present to a candidate.

After going to this process over and over again, I have started to ask myself is it worth it? I want to help more Nigerians get jobs, but it's clear to me overall we are not serious.
ver 400 resumes I have for EA positions, only 50 resumes have been presentable to clients.

Nigerian youths if there is not anything else you get out of my message, you need to level up. The Nigerian education system is not preparing you for the workforce. Start teaching yourself basic etiquette of how to apply for a job and the interview process.

Stop sending emails with no subject title or body in the email. Then you attach your resume and expecting a positive response.

Stop embellishing your resume, only to find your are not anything close to what your resume presents.

Do not put a number on a resume that will be hard for a recruiter to reach you.

And finally, if you applied to a position you should be in your inbox more than social media. I can not tell you how many times I get an email from a candidate a week later saying they are just now seeing my email.
This is the cold hard truth. As much as I want to help Nigerian youths. Many of us are not prepared for employment.
Madam, thanks for your epistle. sad But you are not telling the whole truth, about the recruitment process.

Sometimes, you recruiters prefer youth or young age, over experience and aptitude. You will say, "applicants over 25 years old need not apply." What is that supposed to mean? huh

Another thing you guys do, is to use ATS and other foreign HR software to sift through resumes. And you lose good or valuable candidates in the process, because their CVs or email addresses have not been tailored to conform to some preconceived notion that the HR manager has designed. Nigerian HR Managers have developed all sorts of bylaws or guidelines to suit their ego. sad

You see them saying if your email address does not contain your full name or five letters, then your application goes into the bin. Really?? Who made that law? Are you hiring aptitude or e-mail? shocked

I have seen first class graduates who cross their 'T's and dot their 'i's when it comes to sending online applications. But they are never shortlisted or called up for interviews. undecided At the end of the day, you will see one barely qualified millennial hired for the post, who does not know his/her left from his/her right. He or she got the job because they were related to the Chairman, MD or GM of the firm.

So why waste the time of other more qualified applicants, by subjecting them to the hassle of sending resumes, attending tests or interviews, and making them wait for an interminable period, only for you to go back and hire your preferred candidate through the back door?? shocked

Last but not the least, is the lack of feedback from Nigerian recruiters. What does it cost to send a general email and blind copy unsuccessful applicants, by letting them know they would not be hired after the interview, and thanking them for their time? angry

You're making up stuff to defend crappy martial arts. In every post, I have specifically stated that developed countries don't use crappy martial arts like judo.

And again you're not linking to an official military site. The statement of some idiot trying to peddle karate classes doesn't matter.
Cousin9999:
LMBAO

The website you linked to mentions BJJ, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga.

Nowhere does it mention karate or any garbage martial art. And that's not even an official military site, so it doesn't even matter what's stated there.
It specifically mentions Taekwondo kicks....and also says that they use a variety of martial arts styles. Or you didn't see that part in your bid to hide your silliness? shocked At first, you claimed that developed countries do not use "martial arts," except in films and sports. This was debunked. And you are now trying to do damage control, by limiting it to judo, karate and taekwando....

Soldiers don't learn one or two martial arts in depth, but they do learn hand-to-hand combat (as well as knife-to-hand, knife-to-knife, etc.) via systems that incorporate the best (and simplest) techniques from various martial arts, including Shotokan Karate, Jujitsu/Brazilian Jujitsu, Kali, and Judo. https://www.quora.com/What-are-martial-arts-in-the-military/answer/Douglas-Adolph
......at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the ground-training unit had a non-commissioned officer named Sgt. Maj. Henry Slomanski— or “Hammering Hank,” as he was affectionately known. He was one of the early forces in karate in the United States. He was about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed more than 200 pounds. He had spent a fair amount of time in Japan and acquired a chitoryu karate black belt.

Sgt. Maj. Henry Slomanski started a karate club and was teaching there. In the Rangers, we had American hand-to-hand combat, which was a derivative of jujutsu and American judo. His program also had a fair amount of traditional martial arts techniques. https://blackbeltmag.com/arts/japanese-arts/department-of-self-defense-military-training-and-the-martial-arts
The Korean military division known for real hard core Taekwondo was the elite Tiger Division who were TRUE warriors skilled in the ancient fighting traditions.

They used Taekwondo combat tactics for hand to hand fighting in situations when soldiers did not have guns or were fighting in close quarters. One example of this was when the Viet Cong would hide in their bunkers or tunnels and the Korean Marines did not have the heavy weapons needed to destroy or expose the bunkers.

These soldiers would charge right in fighting only with Taekwondo techniques and bayonets. They were known to cave in ribs, snap necks, choke the enemy to death, and use bone crushing strikes with well conditioned fists and feet, sometimes using only weapons like rocks and sticks to get the job done!

One U.S. Marine Corps Commandant who was a platoon commander in Vietnam in the 1960s watched how the South Korean soldiers performed Taekwondo and saw how they seriously intimidated his OWN men. Because of their killing ratio, even the Viet Cong tried to avoid combat with the elite South Korean marines. https://www.karateworldnj.com/martial-arts-tae-kwon-do-and-the-military/

In Nigeria? We like to put the cart before the horse. Doing the reverse of what the people we so love to copy, do. The lack of Laws, regulations, effective judiciary, support system and the peculiar dynamics of Nigeria been a third world country, makes this thread laughable.

In the meantime, should Nigerian women meekly submit to rapists, and lie flat, for such rapists to have their way each time any of them encounters one? At least with some martial arts training, she has a chance to either disarm her attacker, or buy valuable minutes to escape or yell for help. sad

"Martial arts" is a broad term and doesn't necessarily include garbage like karate.
Na wa o! shocked At first you said they don't use martial arts for self-defence in developed countries. That was debunked, and now you are limiting it to judo, taekwondo and karate.....continue clutching at straws.

Military martial arts systems are fighting martial arts styles developed for real-life combat. They focus on areas such as self-defense, grappling and weapons training. Many of these specialized martial arts programs been developed by countries with large military forces such as the United States, Russia, China and Israel.

Most armed forces teach some form of unarmed combat. It is often a type of mixed martial arts where military personnel might learn a combination of martial arts techniques such as Taekwondo kicks, Muay Thai elbow strikes, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grappling techniques, unarmed self-defense techniques for use against opponents armed with weapons, etc.https://blackbeltwiki.com/military-martial-arts

SEALs undergo intense training in all types of combat, including hand-to-hand fighting.
It can be broken down into three categories: self-defense, free fighting and grappling. SEALs are trained to use leverage as part of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as ground fighting. It is one more weapon in the bag of martial arts knowledge for the trained SEAL. https://careertrend.com/navy-seals-hand-to-hand-combat-training-information-12744105.html
Navy SEALs learn a variety of martial arts to become highly efficient hand-to-hand combatants. They are encouraged to learn as many styles as they can, but there are a few that are staples in their training. For a Navy SEAL, martial arts are integral to their safety and their ability to execute covert missions and deal with enemies in close quarters. This is why SEALs only focus on the most effective martial arts.

Frankly, true defense isn't a skill you can necessarily teach. It's raw, dirty, survival fighting where you viciously attack someone with no regard for what happens to them. Boxing and grappling training help a lot, but no one will teach you to attack a man's genitals or bite off chunks of their body in a boxing gym.

How will you see it? huh You only see what you want to see. Igbo men insulted both Stephanie their own sister, as well as her husband. undecided Should I post a link to that thread, right here for you? Oya, here it is: https://www.nairaland.com/4102640/linus-idahosa-challenges-bruce-fein

If they could insult Stephanie their own sister like that, as well as her own in-laws, why are you now up in arms, against a non-Igbo who shared his own experience? Why are you so offended and claiming that he has no business marrying an Igbo lady, when Igbo men have done and said even worse things than he did, right here on NL?? shocked
