You guys are doing a wonderful job.

It will be good if we can create another thread detailing all the Yoruba real estate developers in Lagos and Abuja. This will go a long way to debunk Ibos lies of developing Lagos and Abuja which most Nigerians including the Yorubas have taken to be true.

I must confess I never knew Yoruba control so much of Nigeria Economy. Without Yoruba, Nigeria will be empty.
So are you, my friend. Your good wishes are much appreciated! cheesy You see why I say you Yoruba guys have businessmen who are not only wise, but quite strategic? cheesy Your businessmen move into an area of the economy, study it, master the terrain, build goodwill and then lock it down - using money, clout, connections and intellect. They don't just look at packaging, but focus on the long-term. wink If only my Igbo neighbours across the border, can learn from them.... undecided

So, why don't you use the same method to find out "Afonjas' manufacturing list and what they produce"?

Even a mostly quiet observer like myself have noted the many many things posted here that Yorubas produce and manufacture, yet, to save face, some of you are still asking them to show you, when they have a million times already!

Anyway, I just logged on to say well done to one of my favourite posters on this board Laudate and all who have done a fantastic job with facts and figures to debunk many fallacies usually perpetuated by some Igbos on here. Well done all!

Who has heard of Tokunbo Talabi? He is the owner of Superflux International that manufactures all the MICR-encoded chequebooks used by all the banks in Nigeria, Ghana and a few West African countries. His company is part of the consortium known as Bitflux Communications - Special Purpose Vehicle promoted by Bitcom Systems Limited and Superflux International Limited, to bid for the 2.3Ghz Wholesale Wireless Access Service Licence (“WWASL”) which was auctioned by the Nigerian Communications Commission (“NCC”). Bitflux won the bid and was awarded the WWAS licence, which includes a Digital Mobile Licence and International Gateway Services.

Superflux International Limited was incorporated as a private limited liability company in 1995 and commenced business in 1998 in Victoria Island, Lagos. It subsequently moved its security printing facility to a 12,000 square meter purpose built factory complex located at 3 Vori close, Ogba Industrial area. It has a staff strength of over 300 employees.

Accredited by the Central Bank of Nigeria, Central Bank of Zambia and other West African Central Banks, it is the industry leader for cheque provision and other security printing solutions in Nigeria and has become the preferred supplier of cheques to major banks in Nigeria, having over 80% market share. Its services cut across the financial, manufacturing, entertainment, education sectors as well as Government agencies in Nigeria and across several African countries. http://www.superfluxnigeria.com/about.aspx
Tokunbo Talabi is the founder Superflux International Limited. Prior to starting up Superflux, Tokunbo was a pioneer staff of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. where during his 8-year stint, he served and headed various positions in the bank, such as Corporate Banking, Retail Banking, Corporate Services and Banking Operations. Tokunbo has since grown Superflux from a 2-man trading company at inception to a business with over 300 employees in its employ, with the head office located on a purpose built 12,000 square meter full fledge ultra modern printing/manufacturing facility in Ikeja, Lagos.

Tokunbo’s excellent management of the company’s businesses is evidently proven as Superflux has since become a conglomerate with several active interests in the Financial and Real Estate sectors having diversified investment portfolio interests in agro-allied, steel manufacturing, sectors in companies like Great Nigeria Insurance Plc, Courier Plus, TnT Express, Flux Logistics, Speedy Prints, Papyrus Limited. In 2008, Superflux International Limited competed and won the prestigious Legatum Pioneers of Prosperity Africa Awards as Grand Prize Winner. https://www.bitfluxng.com/directors.html

I pray that God will enlighten your minds to see the truth, understand it and imbibe it. sad Nigerians all over the world will buy a good product, irrespective of where it is made, provided it satisfies their need on 3 levels: It is durable, fit for purpose, affordable, and easy to use. wink

The problem with Igbo manufacturers is that they think production and sales are everything. What about quality? What about durability? What about after-sales support? What about distribution and logistics? What about pricing? What about competition? I have seen too many Igbo businessmen ignoring one or more of these aspects, at their own peril. undecided They are too focused on short-term gains, to the detriment of long-term sustenance of their businesses.

Take Innosons for example. How many dealers in the Southwest, Middle belt and the North, stock his cars or offer after-sales support on his vehicle. Very few. What has been done to sign-up dealers and open showrooms in various parts of the country? Very little. sad So how do people buy a product they are not familiar with, especially when the manufacturer is yet to spend time, money and effort building the brand? shocked

If an Igbo chap produces a good product today, in less than 2 months, his fellow Igbo man will take a sample of that same product to China, Taiwan or Malaysia and ask the Chinese to make inferior copies of it, for him. They do it to undercut their hardworking fellow Igbo man who has committed sweat, tears, and labour to produce his goods. Why?? huh Because they want to reap where they did not sow. That is why the incidence of fake products is so high across the Niger. By the time people who initially patronised the original product, now end up buying the fake version because they cannot differentiate between the two, they are left with a bitter taste in their mouth. And they will never go back to purchase that same product again. angry

When it comes to after-sales service, this is where many Igbo business men miss it. sad You buy a product from them which is supposed to have a warranty. The minute you leave their shop, and there is a problem with it, if you bring it back for replacement or repairs in a week's time, it becomes a problem. Instead of assisting you to resolve the problem, they will either ignore you or tell you that refunds do not exist in their dictionary. This is the easiest way to lose customers. undecided

Look at the lubricants sector for example. sad There are quite a few Igbo businessmen who produce lubes for the public in this sector. But you would hardly see them organising workshops, trainings, or gatherings for mechanics nationwide, to popularise their products. They do not have any anti-counterfeiting measures in place, to deter those that may want to fake their products. Within a short while, their products become unpopular and no one wants to take a chance by using a product they are not familiar with. undecided

A lot of companies take the principle of research & development seriously, as well as the practice of continuous improvement. I do not see this in a lot of Igbo-owned businesses. There are too many people copying what others have done, instead of going the extra mile to make their products stand out in terms of durability and quality. sad

I am a passionate believer in patronising Nigerian-made goods, but I will not do so at the expense of my good health or hard-earned peace of mind. Why would I buy a cable that does not come with a guarantee or warranty? shocked Why would I buy an untested piece of equipment when there are no referrals to show the product is good? How many Igbo-made products have been thoroughly tested and checked for reliability, consistency and durability, before it is released into the market? Very, very few! So please do not blame the consumers for being wary.

Let me stop here, before I offend some people further. Anyway, the key to getting a higher market share is to take note of what your customers want and provide it to them, in a way that does not leave them with a bad impression at the end of the day, so they can keep coming back for more. undecided

Apostle Oluwole Awotuyi does not want any baby to die, so he decided to donate a sprawling Emergency Pediatric Ward (EPW) to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

The ward, an auto door entrance, fully equipped with instruments and machines described as second to none in African sub Sahara, by an Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics, Prof. Adeoye Adeniyi is valued at over N150 million.

Awotuyi, the Chairman of an Ilorin based Pharmaceutical Company, ‘Tuyil Industries Limited’ (TIL), according to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the UITH Professor Abdulwaheed Olatinwo “has no business link” with the hospital but donated the EPW due to his philanthropic attitude and passion to serve humanity with his God’s given wealth. https://guardian.ng/features/health/awotuyis-lifeline-for-uiths-paediatric-ward/

Please Educate yourself ¬ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Civil_War

The AG insisted that Lagos, a Yoruba city which was situated in Western Nigeria must be completely recognised as a Yoruba town without any loss of identity, control or autonomy by the Yoruba. Contrary to this position, the NCNC was anxious to declare Lagos, by virtue of it being the "Federal Capital Territory" as "no man's land" - a declaration which as could be expected angered the AG which offered to help fund the development of other territory in Nigeria as "Federal Capital Territory" and then threatened secession from Nigeria, if it didn't get its way.

The threat of secession by the AG was tabled, documented and recorded in numerous constitutional conferences, including the constitutional conference held in London in 1954, with the demand that a right of secession be enshrined in the constitution of the emerging Nigerian nation to allow any part of the emergent nation to opt out of Nigeria, should the need arise. (Author(s): Tekena N. Tamuno Source: The Journal of Modern African Studies, Vol. 8, No. 4 (Dec., 1970), pp. 563–584 [41] )

This proposal for inclusion of right of secession by the regions in independent Nigeria by the AG was rejected and resisted by NCNC which vehemently argued for a tightly bound united/unitary structured nation because it viewed the provision of a secession clause as detrimental to the formation of a Unitary Nigerian state.

In the face of sustained opposition by the NCNC delegates, later joined by the NPC and backed by threats to view maintenance of the inclusion of secession by the AG as treasonable by the British, the AG was forced to renounce its position of inclusion of the right of secession a part of the Nigerian constitution. It should be noted that, had such a provision been made in the Nigerian constitution, later events which led to the Nigerian/Biafran civil war would have been avoided. The pre-independence alliance between the NCNC and the NPC against the aspirations of the AG, would later set the tone for political governance of independent Nigeria by the NCNC/NPC and lead to disaster in later years in Nigeria.

TTDALK

ttdalk.ng

Temilade Osinfade is the founder and Creative Director at T.T Dalk. During his days at the university, he would draw out footwear designs on paper for local shoe craftsmen to make for him. His shoes and slippers caught the attention of other students and that’s how the T.T Dalk footwear business was born.

T.T Dalk is revolutionizing the local footwear business in Nigeria and has been featured on several international fashion shows and runways. He primarily sells his shoes on online stores and a few boutique retail outlets in Nigeria’s major cities.

In a recent press interview, he gave the following advice: “… you need to have passion for the business, it takes a lot of consistency and perseverance. Define your brand, and define your target market. You will not find many people who are knowledgeable about the business, so you need to educate yourself and do most of the work at the early stages. You must be very creative, and most especially you need to take risks. Get out of your comfort zone and explore the outside world!”

T.T Dalk is definitely a promising brand to watch in Africa’s fast evolving footwear landscape.
Guy, God bless you!! cool I had even written about him much earlier, on this same thread. He is one of those chaps who produce shoes of international quality right here in Lagos, and then sells them to his foreign customers, abroad. cheesy https://www.nairaland.com/3918290/what-yorubas-produced-life-yoruba/22#58434160. Seems you don't know the meaning between of field operator lol
Don't mind him. Even the Seplat he quoted has been posting losses over the past few quarters. Last recorded loss was about $18 million USD. Price of oil has even dropped significantly over the past few years.

Meanwhile, I came across this piece of news. There is an Edo chap from your end, that is making waves in the glassware market, which is dominated by multinational conglomerates, and foreigners. Was quite surprised to learn about his business feat. His name is John Aluya and he runs a company called Technoglass Limited.
Born in the 50s, Aluya was an ex-banker with over 35 years of banking and business development experience. A man of humble beginning who was fascinated with glass all his life. As a young child he under-studied his uncle who was a glass merchant in Benin and his enthusiasm into the glass business is a living testimony today.

He set up one of the foremost glass companies in the country-Crystal Glass Nigeria Limited in 1985. The business began with importation of louvre blades and later veered into actual production of other forms of glass. The company today, has over one billion naira investments.

He is the Group Managing Director of Crystal Group, compromising of Techno Glass Industries Limited, Caltex Investments Limited and Crystal Glass Nigeria Limited. He is a Council member of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos; Council member of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and currently, the Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Apapa Branch. http://www.nigerianbestforum.com/blog/in-nigeria-power-is-about-40-cost-of-production/
Technoglass Industries Ltd located in Lagos, Nigeria is a subsidiary of Crystal Glass Nigeria Limited, which was established in 1985 as a trading company with specialisation in the supply of float glasses, double glazed glasses, tempered or laminated safety glass to the Nigerian construction industry. The growth of the construction industry brought about the need to have an indigenous company that will manufacture and process safety glasses and this led to the establishment of Technoglass Industries Ltd in the year 2004.

With a multi-million naira investment in hi-tech machinery and processing equipments, Technoglass is equipped with a state of the art furnace machine, double glazing line, laminating glass production line, edging machines and other glass and aluminium processing machines. TGI owns the biggest toughening furnace in West Africa, which can produce maximum size of 2440mm x 3600mm of toughened glass.

With a land area covering about 8540 square meters, it is a wholly indigenous glass processing company with a daily production output of 4,500 square meters. TGI is accredited to be the best in hi-tech glass processing in Nigeria and West African sub-region. http://www.technoglassng.com/about-us-2/

Seplat is the largest private field operator at the moment

https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/business/31101-indigenous-oil-firms-produce-865-000-bpd
Top 20 indigenous oil producing companies have a combined production capacity of 865,229 barrels per day (bpd), according to a report by Africa Oil & Gas.

The report made available at the ongoing Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) 2014 meeting in Lagos yesterday shows that, as at May 2014, the companies achieved the feat through individual and equity production.
Top among the list is the National Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) with gross production of 186,918 bpd from its 10 oil fields.

Seplat is the largest private field operator at the moment with 60,113 bpd from three fields - Ovhor, Sapele and Oben.
Midwestern produces 12,654 bpd from its Umusadege field. Conoil is producing 10,100 bpd from Otuo South field, and Pan Ocean 7500bpd from Ogharefe field
.
....
The same Seplat that posted a huge loss on its operations, recently? shocked

Seplat Petroleum Development Company’s (Seplat) Q1 2017 results were hurt by disruptions to the third-party operated Trans Forcados System (TFS), the company’s major export pipeline route. Seplat posted a loss before tax of –US$18.3m. This marked the fifth consecutive quarter of losses.

The TFS which had been out of operation for over 15 months is now back on line. However, we expect management to remain focused on the development of export route alternatives in order to de-risk future production. Following conversations with the company, we understand that engineering work on the Warri Refinery Jetty and the construction of the 160,000bpd Amukpe-Escravos pipeline are both on schedule to be delivered in H2. https://www.proshareng.com/news/Stock---Analyst-Updates/Seplat-Petroleum-Devt-Company-Q4-2016---/35086

Open letter to Tinubu by your elder

Asiwaju Sir, you may be wondering what I’m talking about? It is the issue of legacy. According to Peter Strople, ‘Legacy is not leaving something for people, it is leaving something in people’. Legacy is building something that outlives you. Legacy is greater than currency. In the words of Leonard Sweet, ‘ What you do is your history. What you set in motion is your legacy’. You can’t live forever, Sir. No one can. But you can create something that will. Enough of speaking in parables- I shall now speak plainly. When destiny brought you on the scene, we were enamoured because you championed the case for true federalism. It was your belief then that the Yoruba nation will fare better under a restructured arrangement than under the type of unitary government we run while pretending by calling it a federal government. 70% of the manufacturing concerns and major industries in the State are owned by the Igbos. If the Igbos were to stop paying tax in Lagos State, the IGR of Lagos State will reduce by over 60%. .....

Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/open-letter-asiwaju-bola-ahmed-tinubu/
Oga, both you and the the person you quoted who wrote the letter, are grossly misinformed.

For example, Chief Bode Akindele that was cited in the letter as owning the old Standard Breweries & the defunct Dr. Pepper beverages, is today still one of the leading industrialists in the Southwest region. He is the owner of Modandola Group and Fairgate Group, and his business interest spans from maritime to properties and manufacturing.

For example, in the United Kingdom, where the headquarters of his international operations\ business is located, he is respected and highly regarded as a businessman of repute. His company, Fairgate Group located on Bond Street, Lodon, England, deals mainly in properties. Among the company’s tenants are giant retail stores like Sainsbury and Asda Wall Mart. As at the last quantification, the Fairgate Group was said to be worth over a startling billion pounds sterling. A regular visitor to the Fairgate group office of Chief Bode Akindele’s office on Bond street, London can easily know if the Ibadan billionaire is in town or not. This is because right besides the office is a dedicated parking space for the businessman by the Borough of Hammersmith, exclusively reserved for Chief Akindele. So, whenever a Rolls Royce is parked at the space, it means Chief Akindele is in town http://naijagists.com/how-chief-bode-akindele-made-his-billions/
Saying that Lagos would lose 60% of its IGR if the Igbos move out is a fallacy. sad The state would not lose up to half of that amount. A lot of conglomerates and industries now in the Southwest are either foreign-owned, or a joint partnership between Nigerians and other foreign interests. The writer did not look at the size of businesses held by other non-Igbo ethnic groups, within Lagos, before jumping to his conclusion. If I were you, I would take his comments with 2 pinches of salt. undecided

Even though I come from a minority tribe, I must admit that Yoruba entrepreneurs have foresight, vision and clout when it comes to making things happen, within an industry.

Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL) is West Africa’s Free Zone and Logistics Hub for Multinational, Industrial and Offshore oil & gas Companies. It is strategically located at the entry-point to Lagos harbour. Now the region’s largest base for rig and vessel repair, LADOL also provides 24/7 operations with a wide range of services and facilities – from cargo handling and inventory management to onsite hotel and recreational facilities. LADOL is a fully integrated, independent and secure base anchored around a 200m quay with a deep, 8.5m draft. The QUAY provides stevedoring and cargo handling with efficient discharge and loading of goods. wink

The BASE provides all logistical services, including warehousing, material handling equipment, fabrication and assembly yards, people management, catering, bunkering of fuel and water, facilities for the supply of bulk materials, a helicopter base, open and closed storage facilities, sewage and waste treatment, potable water and medical services. undecided

LADOL was set up by Ladi Jadesinmi, a Nigerian oil baron who is one of the richest men in Southwest, Nigeria. His daughter Amy Jadesimi, who graduated as a medical doctor (MD) from Oxford University Medical School, is now the current MD of LADOL. Dr. Jadesimi joined the the Investment Banking Division, of Goldman Sachs International in London and attended Stanford Business School, where she earned her MBA in Business Administration. cheesy

Another of Ladi Jadesimi's daughters named Emma, is now Britain’s first black marchioness, as she married Ceawlin Thynn, Viscount Weymouth, son of the current Marquess of Bath.

LADOL is the first and only base specifically designed to meet the logistical needs of deep water offshore oil and gas operations and projects in and around Nigeria. As the first and only facility of its kind in Lagos, LADOL was created to ensure that the nation of Nigeria benefits directly from its deep offshore energy reserves. Manufacturers setting up on the base will find LADOL has excellent infrastructure, including telecommunications, sewage systems, water, fuel and transportation network. It also offers top-quality accommodations and recreational facilities. http://www.ladol.com/about-us/
LADOL advances in $3.8b Egina FPSO vessel construction
The Lagos Deep Offshore Logistic Base (LADOL) is blazing the trail in the quest for local capacity development in the country as it advanced with the construction of the world-class Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

The indigenous oil and gas logistics firm is currently working on the sections of the FPSO at its Free Zone base in Apapa. The Managing Director of LADOL, Dr. Amy Jadesimi, said the yard is where the first ever locally fabricated Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) project took place. http://www.ladol.com/ladol-advances-egina/

As far as major players in the oil industry are concerned, Sahara Group is the firm to watch. Sahara Energy, as it was known then, was set up in 1996 by 3 guys - Tope Shonubi, Ade Odunsi and Tonye Cole (son of fmr Ambassador Patrick Dele Cole). These guys studied Architecture, Business Administration and Accounting, respectively.

In the past 21 years, Sahara Group has not only established itself within the Oil and Gas industry, they have also set up additional chain of businesses in Power, Utilities, Farming, Infrastructure Development and Real Estate. They have offices in Nigeria, Cote D'Ivoire, Ghana, Benin Republic, United Kingdom, Singapore, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Angola.

They currently have 20 subsidiaries which cut across the energy sector, employing 660 employees on their staff. They also have a chain of petrol stations in strategic areas, tank farms/storage depots, and LPG vessels, which they use to load gas. Here is a list of a few of their companies:

Sahara Power, a subsidiary of Sahara Group is set to increase power generation capacity in the sector through investment in new technology, global alliances and human capital development following its acquisition of First Independent Power Company Limited (FIPL). FIPL comprises four Power Plants namely:
*Omoku Power Plant – 150MW Gas Turbine
*Trans Amadi Power Plant – 136 MW GT
*Afam Power Plant – 180MW GT
*Eleme Power Plant – 75MW GT
It would be recalled that working through a number of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV), Sahara had successfully acquired majority shareholding stakes in two (2) of the PHCN assets that were sold by the Nigerian Government, namely Egbin Power station – the largest Power Generation Plant in Nigeria – and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company – the largest power distribution network in Nigeria. http://www.sahara-group.com/sahara-power-acquires-additional-power-generation-assets.html
Sahara Group under its' trade name SO Aviation, is also involved in the marketing and sales of aviation fuel to the airline industry, and has acquired respective equity in the OKLNG and Brass LNG greenfield projects.

Sahara Group’s upstream division comprises a number of affiliates whose mission is to acquire, explore, appraise and develop commercial oil and gas assets in established basins and emerging frontiers in Africa. Affiliates include Sahara Energy Field, Enageed Resources, Sahara Energy Exploration and Production among others. Sahara operates OPL 274, OPL 286 and OPL 284 oil fields in the deep offshore basin, as well as the Tsekelewu Marginal Field (OML 40). In Ivory Coast, it operates CI-500, an Offshore shallow water oil field.

Sahara Gas Limited Company was established to operate fully in the Gas Sector. The company is engaged in a variety of business activities ranging from the acquisition of preferred stakes in gas projects to the marketing and sale of gas products, including Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Liquefied Petroleum gas (LPG), and Condensates (Natural Gas Liquids- NGL).

Sahara Gas is highly committed to developing the domestic gas markets. It holds strategic stakes in the LNG sector with access to international gas markets and regasification facilities. Sahara Gas partnered with Sempra LNG to form a JV which secured 2.5% equity in the Olokola LNG (OKLNG) Project in Ogun State, Nigeria, and 3% equity in the Brass LNG Project in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Domestically, the company operates a 1,000MT LPG storage, truck loading and bottling depot in Calabar, Nigeria; which is being upgraded to a 2,500MT facility.

Sahara Bulk Storage Facilities develops and operates state-of-the-art Bulk Liquid Storage. The company is ISO 9001.2008 certified. It guarantees that all products received at its facilities, comply with international standards such as:

API (American Petroleum Institute)
ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials)
IP (Institute of Petroleum)
JIG (Joint Inspection Group) on Guidelines for Aviation Fuel Quality Control

The company has a robust foot print in West Africa with a significant presence in Nigeria, Ghana and recently, Ivory Coast. All its facilities are specifically designed for the storage of all types of petroleum products and chemicals. http://www.sahara-group.com/our_business.html
