Please post the link and let us see. Mrs. Jonathan, as a First Lady, here are lessons on the power of the Chief Executive of a State By: John Egbeazien Oshodi, Ph.D | Published August 31sth, 2010
Her Excellency, Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan like every well-meaning daughter or son recently went on a two-day official visit to her home town in the Rivers State of Nigeria.
Madam, there must be pride in among the Okrika people to see your presence in their midst. Also, there is more international pride to your home background as evidenced as having come from the Okrika Island of the Rivers State, especially from an area called Obama, a great and passionate name at best.
First Lady Jonathan, as history tells us for over 400 years the people of Okrika have gone through various struggles, starting as a midpoint of Euro-American slave trade and in the early part of the 20th century the land and the people of Okrika were overshadowed by the city of Port Harcourt.
As an Ijaw woman who has watched the long standing exploitation of the area of Niger River Delta of Nigeria by the Euro-American Oil Corporations, one understands your current sentimentalities. http://focusnigeria.com/mrs-jonathan.htm |

Minemrys: Hmm thats your opinion though i see a bit of sentiment in there. Left to me, i say success deals more with personality than culture/tribe. I've met alot of yoruba or other men who are successful without having married an igbo lady and to cut story short, their wives if not all were supportive. I know many because of Mr. Freeze's comment would go searching for an igbo gal [that's fine] but they should 1st and foremost know success starts with them first. A man's worst enemy is himself. Heaven help those who help themselves. True!!  Please see the list below. Most of these reputable non-Yoruba men, married from the South-West. And what they ended up achieving in their lifetime, some folks here cannot even begin to smell it. Chief (Dr) Emeka Anayaoku, the former Commonwealth Secretary-General and the Ichie Adazie of Obosi, married a Yoruba woman Olubunmi, a royal princess from Abeokuta and they have been together for over 45 years;
Prof Vincent Chukwuemeka Ike, the Eze Ikelionwu IX of the great Aro town Ndikelionwu in Anambra State is married to a Yoruba woman too. Her name is Adebimpe Olurinsola Abimbolu, and she is also an accomplished Professor of Library Science. They have been married for over 50 years.
Sir (Dr) Akanu Ibiam, former Governor of Eastern Region, Nigeria from December 1960 until January 1966 also had a Yoruba wife, named Lady Olayinka, from the great Sasegbon family of Lagos state. In April 1974, Dr. Ibiam lost his dear wife. She died at the age of 68. Out of respect for her, he refused to marry any other woman. She was given a state burial. Dr Akanu Ibiam the late Ezeogo and Isiala 1 of Unwana and Osuji of Uburu, was given the title of "... Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George by Her Majesty the Queen";
Dr Vincent Ifeanyi Maduka the pioneer Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA) also married a Yoruba woman. His wife is Engr. Joanna Maduka (nee Olutunbi) from Ilesha in Osun State. she was an undergraduate of University of Ife (Ibadan campus) when they met. They got married in 1967 and are still together till date.
There are several other successful Igbo leaders who were (and still are) married to the Yoruba women, and they are among the most successful Nigerians in history. |

baby124: Femi fani Kayode that insulted Igbo women is your idol. An internet search will help you. I think you should be more ashamed that he made a baby mama out of an Igbo woman. I am yet to see their marriage. Femi Fani Kayode is NOT a man any human being should aspire to marry. Look at your bragging rights. O girl, abeg rest.. Abi, o! More than 5 people have cited Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK) as an example of a Yoruba guy who married an Igbo woman. And I am still shocked by the way they are using him as a reference point. Is it the same Femi that has been married 3 times to 3 different women? The same Femi that used & dumped Bianca, an Igbo woman? The same Femi that is currently dating Precious Chikwendu that small yellow Igbo girl, (who is in the same age bracket as his first daughter), who keeps gallivanting with him all over the place? He has NOT even married her yet, and yet some folks keep calling her Femi's wife. When and where was the marriage conducted, please?? baby124: You really need to open a thread to educate we Yoruba women about what you see in Yoruba men that make you and your men lose their minds. It even seems like some Igbo men are more attracted to Yoruba men than Igbo women. In fact the thing don dey confuse me. Maybe I have failed to understand it, because I do not come from the South-West. Is it Igbo women that are chasing the Yoruba men, or the Igbo men on this thread, that are flaunting the fact that their Igbo sisters have succeeded in capturing Yoruba men? Or are they celebrating the fact that Igbo women are choosing Yoruba men, over them (i.e. as if these Igbo women would rather marry a Yoruba man, than an Igbo man)?
Enahi: Nonsense so the ladies from other tribes whose husbands are successful married igbo women. Oh I forgot Aliko Dangote is married to an igbo woman,Bola Tinubu is married to an igbo woman,Otedola is married to an igbo woman. I think igbo women are faliurs because their husbands aren't even listed as some of the most successful men from Africa.

For example, Segun Arinze who speaks fluent Igbo. A half-Igbo yoruba man who marries an Igbo woman, their children are 75% Igbo and 25% yoruba only. You don't understand the magnitude of what's going on in the Yoruba gene pool. A day will come when more than 50% of yorubas are half-igbos or have Igbo DNA in them. Children naturally are closer to their mother's than their father's side. Eewo! Wonders shall never cease! Wetin I dey see so? Why I released Awolowo from prison — Gowon | October 17, 2015 | Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji | Premium Times
A former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, on Thursday said his administration released the late Obafemi Awolowo from prison to end the political unrest in the South West and ensure peace across the country.
Mr. Gowon, who spoke to journalists after paying condolence visit to the Awolowos at Ikenne, also noted that he was privileged to have been used by God to ensure release of the late sage from prison.
The former head of state, who was at Ikenne on account of the death of HID Awowolo, disclosed that the late matriarch was the one who persuaded Mr. Awolowo to be part of his military government.
“’It was my fortune and I thank God that it was me that had the opportunity to release Papa from prison from Calabar to Lagos and certainly to be able to help us have peace in the West at that time and then we came,” Mr. Gowon recalled.
“Mama was very happy and very grateful for what has happened and I can assure you, that is what earned me the respect of Mama right throughout her life. But yes, what we did was alright..." His job is to set systems that will revitalize the industry. Why should an individual perform better than a government enterprise? Is this normal? Why do we celebrate mediocrity in Africa? I wish you can make your points as plain as possible without throwing unnessary punches because to be honest I really wish to know why you think so. I'm fully kitted should you think otherwise! cuteboy2: These are contradictory statements
Mr Minister, the Petroleum Ministry sits in your plate, and that of your Oga, the President. What have you people done since you came onboard 18 months ago apart from increasing fuel prices and endless "We will", "we intend", statements. The PIB bill you met still remains unpassed.
You characterise your own refineries as "scrap". If an individual like Dangote can muster enough gut and resources to build a refinery, what prevents the mighty Federal Govt from doing the same, under whatever funding arrangement. We hear this same Federal Govt that says it has no money to build new refineries has promised Dangote all the forex he needs to build his private refinery. What an irony!!!
Meanwhile, small Kenya that does not have oil is busy importing cheap oil at current low prices, and refining it in their refineries and making exporting the refined products.
Ghana is refining all the petroleum products they need in government owned refineries. Our own ministers and government officials are whining and running from pillar to post. If they are not in China tomorrow to beg for money, they are in America or Morocco to blame other people and nations for their incompetence.
We understand the clueless, dull looking Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun is blaming the America and the Western powers for blocking Nigeria from building coal power stations. So what stops Buhari from building gas-fired power stations to utilise billions of cubic feet of gas flared daily in Nigeria.
What happened to all the NIPP gas-fired power stations at Alaoji, Egbema, Calabar, Ihovbor, Geregu, Omotosho, etc started by OBJ and progressed by GEJ govt? At least Americans are not blocking us from completing those. When will they all be commissioned and connected to the national grid? Bros, your reply make sense, die!! I suppose dash you 1,000 likes for this post. In other parts of the world, there are national refineries that are much older than our own, that have been upgraded and are still working fine. Godprotectigbos: I JUST LOVE AMEACHI ...HE HIT THE POINT You wan try? I have a lot of respect for Ichie Mbazulike Amaechi, former Minister of Aviation in the 1st Republic. His views are always well-balanced. For being a powerful, reasoned voice for moderation and mutual respect for all Nigerian nationalities, for confronting key issues and speaking truth to authority where many shy away from it; for being a firm guiding hand always available for consultation in times of national danger, Chief, Ichie Mbazulike Amaechi is The AUTHORITY Icon. The story of his life is intertwined with the story of Nigeria's evolution from a disparate collection of ethnic nationalities into a challenged entity striving strongly to become a modern state. Today, he is the quintessential statesman who has seen the extreme challenges of nation building. He is Chief, Ichie Mbazulike Amaechi, First Republic Minister of Aviation.
He was born in Ukpor, Anambra State, on June 16, 1929. Young Amechi attended Catholic School, Umunuko Ukpor, from 1937 to 1943. He later proceeded to the famous Etukwuoku College, Onitsha from 1944 to 1948. He served as the Principal Organising Secretary of NCNC from 1955 to 1959. He was the Secretary-General of the Zikist Movement from 1960 to 1963 and later NCNC publicity Secretary from 1964 to 1966.
He became a parliamentary secretary, Ministry of Information 1960 to 1962 and later Minister of State for Ports from 1964 to 1966. On the business turf, he was astute and circumspect. He was chairman and managing director of a chain of companies in the 60s.
With the return of party politics in 1979, he became a member of the then ruling National Party of Nigeria, NPN, from 1979-1983. During this period he served as the executive member, Strategy Committee, NPN. Later he was appointed the director, Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Amaechi who boasts the rare privilege of being a witness and participant in the Nigerian story, right from independence in 1960, through, civil war, military dictatorships and back to civilian rule also has the singular honour of hosting the South African icon, Nelson Mandela, when he came for consultations with some Nigerian nationalists during the period of struggle against apartheid. With little question, Amechi belongs to the vanishing tribe of elder nationalists.
It is also worth recalling that Amechi put his own life on the line in defense of Nigeria's foremost nationalist, late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, by nipping in the bud a lethal plot to attack Zik in Lagos in the 60s. For this selfless, courageous action, he was given the sobriquet of "The boy is good," by a grateful and much relieved Zik as a mark of his personal appreciation. He holds the traditional title of Dara Akunwafor of Ukpor. . http://authorityngr.com/2015/11/The-Authority-ICON--Chief-Ichie-Mbazulike-Amaechi |

gidgiddy: And Im telling you that Gowon had no powers to repudiate Aburi, he had no powers to abolish the regions, he had no powers to offer '95%'. It was Gowons duty to implement the agreement he signed to the letter. Aburi made the 4 Regions the 'confederating' units of Nigeria, they were literally autonomous. And if for any reason, Gowon wanted to change the terms of Aburi, he should have called for a second Aburi meeting. The regions were more powerful than Gowon or the SMC and for Gowon to have come with his own watered down version and a ridiculous clause that allowed him to undermine the sovereignty of the regions was unacceptable. If I was Ojukwu, I would not have accepted it either. It was a crafty attempt to sneak in Northern hegemony via the back door. I dont think Gowon knew what he was signing in Aburi, by the time he did, it was too late.
Personally, I dont think anything could have prevented the war. The Northern oligarchy could not stand Nigeria being run as a confederation because it made them powerless and the agrieved East would rather fight fall under Northern domination. Something had to give. Maka gini?? Gowon was military Head of State and Commander-In-Chief and you say he had no powers?? Chai!! Go back to school, biko! |

Ngozi123: Ahh, I was waiting for when you would say something like this, took you long enough... @blues2022 you see what I was saying about their modus operandi? This one here has exhibited it almost exactly.
Thanks, same to you . Hehehe...... and you have not disappointed me with your response. I was just waiting for you to come up with this rejoinder. Don't worry, you and your cohorts can have a 'pity-party' when you are done. My reference to your victim mentality, stemmed from the blanket statements you made earlier, which I have quoted below. Ngozi123: I feel absolutely disgusted by that comment; I am literally sickened by it. It completely contradicts the lies peddled across Nairaland and in real life that the Igbos were 'welcomed' into Yorubaland and were not treated harshly as they tried to go back home before the war. Thank you for this quote, I'll show it to anyone who wants to counteract this claim to me.
As for your other post, I agree that we should spend a portion of our time debunking the lies peddled about us as, as we've seen in the past, they can have fatal consequences. But our number one focus should be on improving and uniting ourselves as a nation (Igbo Nation) and looking for effective ways to break ties with Nigeria once and for all. That's what I mean when I say that I'm indifferent towards them. Our children should be taught their history and the treatment of their forefathers by these so called 'friendly' tribes but we mustn't let it define them. Where has the hatred for the Igbos taken Nigeria? As you said, we must debunk their lies but we must also completely separate ourselves from Nigeria both physically and mentally speaking. |

Ngozi123: 1. Not on the level of what they've been dealt. 2. Read my post at the top of this page... 3. Where have I said that the Igbos are the only people who've been "unfairly targeted" in this country? There are many groups who are protesting against their harsh treatment in this country and they have every right to do so. If the Igbos want to look for a better solution to their woes then leave us to it. I don't know why whenever 'Igbo' is mentioned, some people like to deny, deny and deny again. It's like a reflexive action... Madam, it is so sad that you are the one living in denial mode. Anyway, you are only speaking from your own limited perspective. Unfortunately, your response shows you have activated the 'victim mentality' button, which a lot of your friends do, when the error of their reasoning is pointed out. No one is stopping the Igbo from seeking solutions to their problems. The only thing people are saying is, do it peacefully on your own, without denigrating or vilifying other ethnic groups. Is that too much to ask? Do have a great day. |
