ALISMILE: don't mind me jare, next time I ll delay alittle bit! Come to think of it, so yeeboos can actually hold a yoruba so in such high esteem?
I no know say you sef see am!! As long as it supports their cause, they would hold anything in high esteem. Can't you see the way they started lapping up Fani-Kayode's antics, after he spoke in defence of Biafra?? The same Fani-Kayode that has been ostracised by his own people, and is not taken seriously by them, anymore??
new2020: Understand the difference between "merged" and " bought out". UBA bought out Standard Trust and Continental when they merged. Diamond bought out Lion Bank, e.t.c . Meaning, the buyer not merger has sole right to retain its board of directors, brand and culture as in the case of Diamond and UBA. So what the previous guy was saying is spot on..no Biafran run banks has liquidated or forced to merge due to insolvency. Mostly its yoruba run banks that get run down or merging to save face. The best banks in Nigeria today remains Diamond, Zenth and Fidelity...all Biafran run. Now understand?
Guy, please go back and read all about the history of banking in Nigeria before you come back here to yarn stories. Since you know so much about them, please tell us what led to the mergers and acquisition of the old Igbo-owned banks in chapter and verse.
I don't have the time to start digging up facts today, but mergers and acquisitions is a very wide area and most of the Igbo-owned banks (just like those owned by folks from other ethnic groups in the financial sector), that were either bought or taken over or ended up being merged with other banks, were either highly insolvent, distressed, close to bankruptcy or had difficulties in meeting the minimum capital base specified by CBN as a result of mismanagement.
The African Continental Bank popularly known as ACB was one of the big three indigenous banks in Nigeria during the 1950s to early 1980s. It survived the banking crisis of the 1950s and emerged out of a political crisis in the same decade to become by 1978, a major indigenous bank with up to 50 branches and 150 million naira in deposits. After the creation of new states in 1976, the bank became owned by the states of Eastern Nigeria. The bank became distressed in 1991 and was taken over by the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1994 for restructuring and resale. In 2000, a consortium comprised of Diamond Bank, Hallmark Bank and Citizens Bank decided to revive the distressed bank. The new bank commenced operations in 2002 and was chaired by Green Nwankwo. In 2005, it merged with other banks to become Spring Bank. http://nigerianwiki.com/wiki/African_Continental_Bank
What eventually happened to the same Spring bank that bought over ACB? It also got taken over by Enterprise bank due to insolvency, and that same Enterprise bank was finally bought over by Heritage Bank, after it had been acquired by AMCON.
Spring Bank which was formed in December 2005 by the merger of six (6) Nigerian financial institutions, namely: ACB International Bank Plc, Citizens International Bank Plc, Fountain Trust Bank Plc, Guardian Express Bank Plc, Omega Bank Plc, Trans International Bank Plc. In 2009, following an industry-wide audit of all commercial banks in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the banking regulator in the country, found nine commercial banks under-capitalized and badly managed. Spring Bank was one of the troubled banks. The CBN intervened by injecting new capital to maintain solvency and appointing new management. On 5 August 2011 the CBN revoked the banking license of Spring Bank.
Enterprise Bank was formed in August 2011 by taking over the assets and some of the liabilities of the now defunct Spring Bank, whose commercial banking license was revoked. EBL was issued a commercial banking license on 5 August 2011. As of January 2012, the assets of Enterprise Bank Limited are 100% owned by Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), an arm of the Federal Government of Nigeria. In July 2012, the Federal High Court of Nigeria, in Lagos ordered that the affairs of the defunct Spring Bank Plc be wound up, since its license had been revoked. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Bank
Go through the archives and check the facts. You can beat your chest today that Diamond Bank, Fidelity and Zenith are among the largest banks, but how did they get so big?? What about the other Igbo-owned banks that crashed?? GTB Plc, FCMB, Access bank, Skye bank etc are also among the top 10 banks in Nigeria today, which are owned by non-Igbo. In some cases, they merged or acquired other banks to grow to their current size. Get your facts right, please!
ikechu1278: Under his laudate account this pathethic monkey illiterate will claim "I'm not tribalist. I'm not yoloba.". Just watch what the f00l wrote under his real ID.
More reason I support the complete destruction of that zoo called Niggeria. If I can find away to actual send money not just to ipob but to boko haram, I'll f2king do so in a heartbeat. Isis should hurry up already and invade that disgraceful nation and wipe you nigg@s off the face of the earth.
Each and EVERYONE of una, you especially, deserve death and living in that zoo nation I know for sure your life is limited and you death is near. Worthless, buff00n
Chukwu Nnà, bikō zọpùṭa ānyị n’aka ndị niiìṇe nā-akpọ ānyị asì!! Why does the fact that you do not know my ethnicity, give you such sleepless night, biko?? Bia kete, wetin concern me for inside your matter?? Na wetin I take resemble lastpage? Do we have the same hairstyle, or do we share the same passport?? You well so??
When the hate locked up in a man's soul starts to seep into his veins, it not only poisons his entire system, it destroys his mental faculty, which is exactly what is happening to you. Abeg, read my lips - I am NOT last page. Stop hallucinating and seek a cure for your psychotic delusions.
Last word: Get rid of the bile within your soul before it kills you!!
EbolaParasite: Again, never use the word "WE". You don't speak for all igbos. Assumption is the mother of all fackers. Who told you that im yoruba
ALISMILE: I can bet on d life of all biafrags that TB Josh will issue a statement debunking dis trash of news! SS(where ur revenue hope lies) elders ve already isued a statement that they re not interested! Do u still intend to continue?
Bia kete, don't spoil my fun here!! Na wetin?? I was still marvelling at the fact that a Yoruba man gave a prophecy, and the pro-Biafra IPOB guys are jubilating over it without even mentioning the man's ethnic group, and you are here disputing it and saying TB Joshua should issue a disclaimer. Bros, take time o!!
simplycarro: Shaahrrap, just send your home address to the dude. Bastard, make sure you don't stay anywhere near Alexandria-Bourdilion axis. I will personally drag you to the bridge and dump your body into the lagoon
Na for dat side you dey stay??! Awon bigz boys and girls!!
What did you use the money you borrowed for is what I'm concerned about
Laudate this is what I was talking about as regards the issue of increasing tax
Egbon, I agree with Transparency and Accountability whole-heartedly. What I do not agree with, is an increase in taxes on already over-burdened taxpayers. I hear only about 50% of the population currently pay tax.
Why can't the state govt capture the remaining 50% that do not pay tax, and devise strategies to ensure their compliance?? That is my point. If taxes can be harnessed from the 50% that are currently not paying their taxes, then tax revenue would increase and there would be no need to increase the burden on the conscientious citizens that are already complying with the law.
So my suggestion is this: 1). Implement citizen-friendly strategies to get tax defaulters to pay up; 2). Enforce transparency and accountability on the collection and utilisation of such taxes; 3). Ensure revenue from such taxes are judiciously utilised and deployed to areas where it would achieve maximum effect.
THE CONCEPTION OF CHUKWU- “THE GREAT GOD” IN HIS DIFFERENT ROLES
In the Igbo ontology, the omnipotent being is also conceived of in His different roles. As in his causative role, He is called Chineke, meaning the God who creates or the God of creation. In Ugbene-Ajima linguistic dialect, a town among the Igbo tribe....
Almighty God is generally addressed as Ezechitoke Abiama, or Eze-chita-okike Abiama, which is in other words, could be Eze Chukwu Okike Abiama, meaning, the King, God Almighty, — king of the creating phenomenon, who causes all by Himself. Chukwu and Chineke is one and the same God, called Chukwu when designating roles and Chineke when seen as the creator. The mightiness of Chukwu is seen in the wonders of creation. Thus, Chukwu is seen in opus Dei ad extra in (His creation) as the subsistent Being, Being-itself. Yet He is Chukwu distinguished from other smaller deities.[Emmanuel M. P. Edeh, Towards an Igbo Metaphysics (Chicago: Loyola University Press, 1985), 128-133. 13] http://www.slideshare.net/chichieze/the-concept-of-eze-chukwu-okike-abiama-in-ugbeneajima
OP, please provide the link to your story, so that we can actually check & verify that it was written by Gen. Ihejirika. This will enable doubting Thomases like us, receive the faith of Abraham. May God bless you as you comply.
stagger: My university school fees then was 45 bucks. Accommodation N90 and we were 2 in a room. I used to eat gari with soup and 2 pieces of meat with 10 bucks, & that was big boys ration then. When guys don dey broke, there was always a nearby joint to my hostel where we ate yam and beans without for 3 bucks as in THREE NAIRA.
So guy, 2,000 could feed me in school then for 200 days or about 2 academic sessions at 16 weeks per session. That money was huge then.
Petrol then was 42 kobo per litre under IBB. A crate of coke then was N5.50. A cow leg was N150 (now 40,000).
Dnacode: I understand who Chukwu Okike is(I.e God the creator) but who is Chukwu Okike Abiama bikonu? Where did the name Abiama enter Gods name from? A quick Google check showed that it was Aro-chukwu diety. Pls is this true?
theDEVILisHERE: The war resulted from Biafrans decision to defend themselves from invading enemies
Biafrans made their own decision during the war Ojuckwu as much as he was the leader was still bounded by the decision of biafrans
Every action that biafrans took during the war was a Biafran decision Not an ojuckwu decision
The war was about the biafra Not ojuckwu
Biafrans take responsibility for every action by biafrans during that war
We have heard you. E don do. But stop telling part of the story. What was Ojukwu's role in Biafra?? Was he the cook or cleaner?? So why are you trying to gloss over the decisions he took, which affected the lives of millions including the soldiers under his command? Who rallied the South-East to fight, gave them ammunition and ordered them into battle?? Wasn't it Ojukwu?? So why are you trying to absolve him of responsibility, when he was not just the leader of Biafra but also the Commander-in-Chief??
Like I said before always tell the full story, biko. Every tale that has a beginning, also has an ending. And the incontrovertible truth is that Ojukwu ran for his dear life, when he saw the war was lost! He didn't care about the sick, suffering, dying and helpless people left behind in Biafra, at the end. No amount of white-washing can change that fact of history. There were witnesses to his departure and his flight. Period.
stagger: Ojukwu the chicken ran away after boasting he would be the last soldier to carry a rifle in Biafra, throwing out children and relief officials from an aircraft bound for Gabon in the process and hiding in Cote d'Ivoire for 12 years.
The real hero was Philip Effiong who stood his ground, refused to run and put an end to the bloodshed, stating in his famous surrender speech that those who had made it difficult for negotiations to move on had quietly removed themselves from their midst. He ended up spending time in prison for his bravery.
Today the coward is celebrated (Ojukwu) while the real man and the real hero who saved millions more lives by taking a bold step of knowing when the situation was hopeless is forgotten. What an irony.
Thank you OP for reminding us.
True!! What Obong Philip Effiong did, took uncommon courage. Carrying out such a difficult decision in the face of such uncertainty, in order to prevent further bloodshed and save generations yet unborn, will always make him stand out as a great leader.
TonyeBarcanista: Hypocricy is when a man keep silent when his fellow Igbos insult and malign my ethnic group but shout blue murder when I Like responses from those that reply insults against myself and my ethnic group. I have NO apologies for hypocrites. I have NO explanation either. Whoever is not satisfied with my position on the Biafra-Brohuaha should go to Akure for a session with Akure youths. Whoever feel threatened or pained that I don't support their agenda that my group have ZERO to gain but all to lose should GO AND DIE! Whoever think/feel that I'm bothered by their sheer hate(you inclusive) because I don't align with their partisan or tribal ideology should go empty Atlantic ocean. Finally, whoever think that I'm interested in false/hypocritical followership should visit the strongest spiritualist in India.
He defended his people And his people responded by defending him
There was no how biafrans would have allowed their leader to be captured by the british imperialist aided by their "niggas in the area" aka nigerian slaves
Biafrans are people of honour and cannot allow such to happen to their leader
Biafras act of defending their leader has made ojuckwu's idea of restoration of biafra to live to fight another day That is why the fight for biafras restoration can never ever be stopped till biafra is restored
So like I said No amount of twisted logic can change the fact that ojuckwu is a hero
Nice epistle. Great speech. But you forgot to include the final part where Ojukwu had said "in war even the grass will fight", before he turned tail and ran away some months later to Ivory Coast under the cover of darkness at Uli airstrip, deserting the suffering and gallant people who had fought under him, and leaving his second-in-command to announce the surrender of the Biafran forces.
You did not include the price. What would it cost to post it here?? At least, those who want to buy will know straightaway if it falls within their budget or not! If it does not, they can look elsewhere.
A Yoruba prophet has announced that Biafra is coming, and the pro-Biafran internet e-warriors have accepted the prophecy, and are rejoicing! Amazing!! Can anyone spot the irony, here....??
Mztarstrechy: We have come a long way as a country. When you see some of the things that happened in the past, you begin to ask yourselves questions like so we were like this as a country before.Check out this throwback picture of staff of Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) setting the value of the Naira in a weekly session in 1987.Compare it with how CBN set the value of naira now.
Now everything is done online, and the information can be obtained at the touch of a button. Even funds transfer of huge sums is done electronically these days. Nigeria you have come a long way, baby!!
wiseoneking: you dont sound ibibion and ibibio blood can never run in your cowardly words: your decendants shall ever remain in one nigeria. This is a country that pauperise ibibio to the extent that the ibibios are taking as house helps and cooks. 80% of thesame oil well in your background are been controlled by people who travelled more than 1500km from the north. Do only thing you gain is been humiliated. Imagine an hausa man mocking ibibio nation that their daughters are good as house girls. Thank God, akpabio said that he is changing that. You want me to be that you are an ibibio lady? Na lie.No ibibio person would want to remain in nigeria. Ekwueme and nwabueze were the duo that spearheaded 6 zonal structure of today where SS is having a voice, he fought for 50% derivates which the north fought back and after everything, he won 13% not for the SE but SS who got the major deposit. How about the recent conf where it was SE a major support for 25% derivative yet thesame naija shout down your parents. Today with all your huge resources, you are still backward to the extend of your love 4 nigeria. Biafra believe in resource control and federating unit, why must a right thinking ibibio man be comfortable in a nation where he fought to be giving 13% of their wealth and 80% of the oil wells are the hands of people that enslaves them. You cant be real ibibio
You are sitting behind your keyboard and have never seen her, so how did you arrive at this conclusion that she is from a different ethnic group?? By telepathy?? Or by psychic means??
In one breath, you are claiming she is not Ibibio. In the next breath you are insulting the Ibibio for being househelps. Must you insult an entire ethnic group to make a point?? Do you think your overbearing comments and contemptuous views, will make them support you? If Ibibio were being used as house helps, that was in the past - not any more! At least, they believed in the dignity of honest labour!
Coolabbie: If the only option available is biafra, then I will rather be in Nigeria. You should know what the ibos are capable of, we are neighbours. No way will I be in a country filled with ndito unenge, they will wipe us out. Until the Ibibios advocate for their own country separate from others, I will continuously shout one Nigeria.
Just ignore him! Don't get worked up because of another man's narrow-mindedness and myopic rhetoric!
theshield: Brainwashed calarba man. he deserve to die like ojukwu for eating with the devil.
You have a screw loose in your brain!! You obviously missed your way in here - everyone knows you were heading for the psychiatric ward. Abeg, swerve!!
ocelot2006: In the end it took an Ibibio man to end the whole Biafran madness while his boss and collegues from the SE ran away. Yet same group wants us to join them again in a repeat of same madness they instigated decades ago. Talk of stupidity.
kozmokaz: if he had died den all hope would av been lost ... buh going on exile gave d ppl hope DAT he s still alive and in safe hand !! I believe d Nigeria government made fruitless efforts to eliminate him der
Guy, you have not answered my previous question... just what exactly did Ojukwu achieve with his 'tactical withdrawal' kwa?? And how many years did he spend in exile during this tactical withdrawal, and what did he do for the benefit of his people during this period? Simple question.
kozmokaz: have u ever heard of tactical withdrawal in military? u should know wen it s applied ... ojukwu decision was d best option
Guy, give it up! 'Tactical withdrawal' kwa..... to achieve just what exactly??And for how many years?? Go on, let us know how many years Ojukwu spent in exile during his tactical withdrawal and what he achieved in exile, within those years for his people.
Ok, while the war was raging, why didn't Ojukwu allow his own soldiers to carry out 'tactical withdrawals' instead of dying at the war front, as federal forces were closing in on them??
kozmokaz: as commander in chief ... bubu should b in d battle field den!!
military tradition must b observed ... go do some research abt d tradition s
Go and read through the annals of war history. True generals stay the course, fighting alongside their men on the field of battle. Civilian presidents do not carry arms, leading troops into battle. Buhari has retired from the armed forces. If he had not, I would have asked him to also do his own bit by carrying out some of his military duties, and recovering captured territories from the enemy, in Borno.
Defense minister, First vice President, President of the Great Peoples Republic of Biafra.
We,the great people of Igbo and Mmoño lands pay homage to you this day on your posthumous birthday. I'd also use this day to reaffirm the great synergy btwn Enugwu and Atakpa(calabar) bkos its one thats marked in greatness and the future prosperity of our peoples.
The least you could have done, was to spell his name properly!! Chai!! Show some respect, biko nu!
