wtfCode:
Igbo's and some other South south tribes ask for Biafra, Nigeria refused and said the country must be one. Danish man draws cartoon of Mohammed in faraway Denmark, you people go around killing Igbos and destroying their properties in the North.
Philips Emegwali invents a super-fast computer, you say a "Nigerian" invents. Igbo student in diaspora makes good grades, you say a "Nigerian" graduates top of the class. But Ikechukwu Abia is caught trafficking drugs, you say an "Igbo" man is caught with drugs abroad. Igbo man do his business and prosper, you people say they want to steal your land and rule over you.
90% of oil blocs in the South are owned by Northerners, you people do not say they have stolen someone's land and resources. Igbos ask for the Presidency, you people laugh at them and say "over your dead body."
The North has rule Nigeria for over 38years and they keep threatening everyone else that they are being marginalized, and so they start bombing everywhere, you people say let's negotiate with them.
Igbos vote for Jonathan, you people say they are myopic and tribalistic. The North and the West voted for Buhari, you people say it is called "change" and democracy.
Igbos rally behind Jimi Abaje, you people say they will drown in the lagoon. Ambode won, you people start cursing them.
Adamu Ciroma and co said "The North would make this country ungovernable if a Northerner does not become President" and "They'll be no Nigeria if power does not return to the North". You people call them "Elder Statesmen","Party Stalwart", "Northern leader", etc. Nnamdi Kanu says the same thing but you people call him "a retard", "treasonable criminal", "war-monger", "evil" and so on.
During the last elections, Radio and TV stations in the North play jihad songs while making anti-GEJ campaigns, say all sorts of things in Hausa, no newspaper headline asked for them to be banned. Of course you people call it politics.
Radio Biafra does same, all hell is let loose. You people say they spreading bigotry and dangerous propaganda. Do you people have an IGBOPHOBIA? Of course not! No one will agree. But do you think the Igbos are problems, everyone will raise their hands.
But we ask, why don't you let the Igbos separate and go their way, you people give me that terrorist look. Dear landlords, just one question: What do you want the Igbos to do to please you?
Continue cutting and pasting the same crap all over different threads. angry

That silly drivel you keep recycling about the Oba of Lagos threatening to drown you, is incomplete. You need to add the part that shows all the Eze Ndi'Igbos from your zone clapping like excited school kids for the Oba when he made those remarks, and promising to do his bidding without any delay. undecided

Maybe then, we would be able to understand why the Oba's remarks still keep haunting you! shocked

kropotkin2:
Guy its not like the bail conditions set require a cash down payment of 6 million o, its just the amount of cash the surety will forfeit if Nnamdi jumps bail, that in addition to any other penalties the court may deem fit to prescribe wink
Guy, if any level 16 officer steps out to bail Nnamdi Kanu, all eyes will be on him. The first question would be: "Does he have that kind of money? As a mere civil servant, where did he get it from? How much is his salary, sef?" shocked shocked

Before you know it, all tongues would start wagging, and a probe would ensue. A person who does not have that kind of money in reserve, would not step forward to arrange bail for someone in detention, to the tune of that amount. Not only that, the security agencies may want to see proof, that the surety actually has those funds somewhere, in case push comes to shove. They could ask for bank statements or proof of funds, before processing the bail papers or working on Kanu's release. sad

I remember when one of my former bosses stood as surety for a friend of his. Part of the bail requirement, was that the surety must have landed property. My boss had to tender the CofO to one of his properties, before his friend was released from detention. cheesy

^^^^ Agree

Who is going to risk his neck and involve in Nnamdi Kanu wahala and get the unwarranted attention of the DSS.

Many Igbo people don't already trust the concept that informed the arrest of Kanu and fear they'll just be unfairly roped into the charges if terrorism.

Kanu was careless and there are several hundred hours of what can be termed as incitement to hatred on RBL, in Nigeria and Britain he would have a problem. Any level 16 civil servant who bails Kanu can call his/her career over
Una no go kill person with laugh for here! cheesy Why would a Level 16 officer bail Nnamdi Kanu? How much is his salary? Abeg, leave dat side. When all the top Igbo millionaires and billionaires are still in town. Haba! shocked shocked

And I am sure none of them got to those positions by insulting the Queen or those in authority, or treating those in their party or community hierarchy, with contempt. Neither did they use expletives on other native born British citizens, like most of you Igbo and Yoruba folks do, on NL.

Nigeria does not have laws yet, that allow you to be regarded as a citizen of any area where you are domiciled. So it would take a long while for an Igbo man to become a governor of Lagos State. undecided

It is one thing to build a fine school, but it is another thing entirely to ensure that products of such schools are academically well-grounded, technically sound and professionally proficient. undecided

In the workplace, I have been privileged to interview graduates from both public and private universities. I've noticed that in certain disciplines, products from a few private universities have the upper edge, while in some other disciplines, graduates from some public universities have proven their worth.

In my interaction with a telecoms company some years back, there was a young graduate from Babcock who was quite resourceful in the IT Dept. There was an old server that had been repaired a few times by various technical firms, but its' performance was still epileptic and sub-par. It kept breaking down every few days. The longest it ever worked without any intervention, was 14 days. Management was on the verge of taking a decision to scrap it and bring in a new one, when this guy requested for a chance to work on it. sad

For close to 5 hours, after he stripped apart that piece of hardware, he left no stone unturned until he finally solved the problem. And for over 8 months after he worked on that server, there were no further problems until I eventually left the place. Of course, his profile soared and he was given automatic employment on completion of his NYSC. Another of his counterparts in that same company who came from the same school, was a software expert with programming skills. Now, when I recruit for various firms, I keep an eye out for graduates from their school. cheesy

How did world-class tertiary institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford etc, acquire their reputation? Through the high-quality of graduates they churned out on a consistent basis. It is up to Baze University to show the world the stuff its graduates are made of. It is not just the amount of fine buildings present, that determine how great a student would be, or how well he would eventually perform in the workplace. It is a combination of facilities, quality of instruction, teaching methods, personal aptitude, capacity for learning, etc, that go a long way in shaping the skill sets that each graduate takes into the workplace. Just my 2 cents. undecided

Without diversifying her options by investing in high net-worth business enterprises, and other pieces of real estate?/ huh

I mean half of that amount would have gotten her a nice duplex in Parkview Estate within the same Ikoyi. With just 20% of that amount (i.e. 60 million) she would have got a 5-6 bedroom detached house in Chevron area of Lekki, and within 1004 estates in Victoria Island. From your second response I can clear see you're daft cos I wasn't even asking you to repeat verbatim what he obviously explained which even a bricklayer can understand but to let you see how you don't understand the correlation of his response to the other guy's statement but ofcourse an empty barrel like you dat has been lectured here comes here spewing unrelated knowledge. You're not only shallow but stubborn at it.

As I said you're not on the level of who I should talk with. People like you are better relating with Nurses cos you are ofthe same mentality.

P.S: The problem with most patients is they think they're coming to see someone who'll carry all their burden both emotional, psychological, spiritual and finacial as if the Doctor doesn't have his own problems too and when you tell them here the first garbage they vomit from their mouth is-"who forced you to read Medicine?" what a daft response!

If you have issues apart from your health condition better go see a Shrink or talk to the Lord.
And from your response, it shows that the shallowness you referred to, actually resides deep within your own mind. Toksytoks responded to another poster, Lagusta , and you asked me if I understood what he said. In order to show you that I did, I paraphrased his words in my response to you. Next, you made a detour by claiming that you did not ask me to quote him verbatim. Do you have a challenge with comprehension? shocked How did I quote him verbatim? And your strange comment about how a bricklayer would have understood his remarks, had me in stitches. cheesy It says a lot about your thought processes. I guess you must have interacted with enough bricklayers who are familiar with the medical lexicon. sad

As if that was not enough, you then took your shallowness several steps further by making a totally different U-turn, and claiming that the 'correlation' was not understood! LMAO! Are you for real??! cheesy

I guess you have several emotional issues you are dealing with right now, which is why you are throwing up all this hate, and lashing out blindly at the unwary patients. Restraint is good for the soul. Try and practise it. undecided

And you should also take your own advice about talking to the Lord, as your post reveals that you have a deeply troubled mind. It may give you the peace, that you so desperately need, in order to be able to tackle the challenges that come with your job.

I'm trying my best not to respond to you in a way that would cause you to further lose face among your colleagues on this thread.

You made a comment, you were called out on it.... instead of keeping your mouth shut, or offering a cogent explanation or even an apology, you continued digging yourself further into the bandwidth of insensitivity. Who dash you junior colleague?? shocked shocked

You sound exactly like a med student, not even a corper. You are the one not using your brain here. If you cannot reply to my question, then kindly stop blabbing! 'Nuff said. undecided

lebete3000:
I bet you didn't even understand what he said and the correlation with the person he responded to. you just opened your mouth saying he should lecture Junior ones when in actual fact he's lecturing folks like you. you see why saying you're shallow is a fact and not an insult?
And your stupidity quotient continues to rise. What he said made sense - the patient was suffering from too many ailments that had weakened him, so he would not have survived a surgery. And giving the patient fluids would have worsened his illness because of the fluids that had accumulated in his system, due to his bad renal condition. You need to go back to medical school, if you cannot understand the explanation made by your senior colleague.

" quickly resuscitate and give fluids" to a renal patient whose GFR you dont know.

where in the world would you do a "quick ex lap" a stressful surgery on a patient with such comorbidities - renal shutdown, uremia , possible pulmonary edema , hypertension and all. what anaesthetic route are you gonna employ? Chaz B IN THAT STATE CANNOT SURVIVE THE RIGORS OF SURGERY.

I trained in Ilorin my brother, i have practiced in the city, in the village in the dirt, with touch lights , with latterns, i know my stuff, i have passed exams that oyibos fail, because we dey this shit country wey things no dey work dont ever assume one is empty. Dont come here ranting you sound EMPTY UP THERE.

if you are a doctor, better tear your certificate, give fluids to person wey get renal shut down..you be silly quack. if you quote me again i will expose your silliness to the world.
Sir, there are good doctors and...there are bad doctors. Having an MBBS or an MBBCh is not a guarantee that a person would perform well on the job. I still carry a scar on my arm today, which is evidence of a poor attempt by a doctor to set up an IV line which went awry. Instead of the IV fluids going into my veins, it went into my tissues, causing me serious pain. Yet, the doctor declined to respond to my protests, until a senior consultant came in 4 hours later. I understand your anger, but abeg kindly sheath your sword for now. Please continue to educate the younger doctors on the right steps. sad

There's simply no reason for you to visit a hospital except something is wrong with you upstairs. We in d general hospital will say a big thank you for that as it will be a good riddance!
When a person makes such clueless remarks as you have done, he should not expect to be applauded. Now let me ask you one more time: Were you forced to study medicine?? Were you also forced to take the Hippocratic oath? Kindly let us know. sad If you cannot offer prompt and adequate medical care to the sick, weak and dying , in an efficient manner...then maybe medicine is not for you.

Hi, trust me these hospitals were not run by quacks, neither did they engage unqualified personnel. shocked The first one I went to was a federal medical centre, in the community where I served as a youth corper. I am not sure that the management would hire a quack doctor to attend to their patients. undecided Pls note that I was not attended to by a pharmacist or a nurse, o! In fact, when I complained to the pharmacist on duty who issued the drugs that I was allergic to Septrin, he was shocked that the doctor prescribed it to me. He was the one who insisted that I take the drugs and go back to the doctor to lodge a complaint, so that he can write another prescription for a different set of drugs for me. sad

The second one where my relative died, was a private hospital run by a well-known organisation in Lagos, right next door to a catholic church and is used by more than half of the residents in that area. Courses that form part of the continuing medical education for medical doctors, are run in that hospital. I came across this story and thought I should share it:

Africa’s Trauma Epidemic | By OLA OREKUNRIN OCT. 17, 2013

LAGOS — It was dusk and I was on my way home from Abeokuta, a vibrant city in southwest Nigeria. My driver had switched off the car’s air-conditioning so I could open the windows and feel the breeze. He was weaving between potholes in the road when suddenly, the scene ahead changed.

A large truck had pulled out carelessly onto the road, knocking a car straight into the median.

That stretch of road is notoriously dangerous, not just because of traffic accidents but also because of armed robbers. It’s for that reason that I suppressed my natural instinct to stop and help.

I was filled with guilt as we passed the wrecked car, because I knew that if the young man at the wheel had been badly injured, there was only a small chance that he would get the emergency treatment he needed.

I knew this because I am a trauma doctor and the founder of West Africa’s first indigenous air ambulance service. Nigeria, a country of more than 170 million people, has no organized trauma response system and no formal training for paramedics. Injured people are often taken to the hospital in a car or minibus or draped across the motorcycle of a good Samaritan, sometimes several hours after the accident has occurred.

Even if the patient does reach a local hospital, it may not have the skilled staff or equipment needed. (There are only a few that do, and there are huge distances between them.) Most of those who are seriously injured probably bleed to death.

So I couldn’t help it when, a few moments later, I said “Stop the car, please.”

I grabbed one of our emergency response bags from my trunk and walked back. I tried to concentrate on the types of injuries the driver might have rather than how unsafe it was walking on that stretch of road, particularly in the evening. Was he bleeding? Was he conscious?

The crash scene had quickly attracted some of the people who typically gather around accidents in Nigeria. Bystanders were pulling the driver out of the car. Before long they were joined by a barefoot “prophet” in a white robe. No Nigerian accident scene is complete without a prophet who commands everyone to stand by while he loudly predicts that the patient will stop bleeding. The patient is often drained of blood by the time the prophecy is complete....

The World Bank predicts that in the next two years, road accidents could be the biggest killer of African children between 5 and 15. By 2030, according to the Global Burden of Disease study, road accidents will be the fifth leading cause of death in the developing world, ahead of malaria, tuberculosis and H.I.V.

If you add to these numbers the injuries caused by violent crime and communal conflict, then you have all the ingredients for a public health emergency.

And yet, trauma receives only a tiny fraction of the attention and money given to these three infectious diseases. Every health care conference I attend focuses on vaccines, treatment and training to combat the infamous “triple epidemic.”

Over the last decade, billions of dollars have poured into Africa with the laudable aim of defeating these killer diseases. But that most basic killer, injury, remains neglected...

A pill would do very little for someone on a rural road in Nigeria with a head injury and a collapsed lung.

We need to put in place systems to provide lifesaving care for accident victims. They need to be moved to a fully equipped hospital — one with X-ray machines, CT scanners, a burn unit — within the space of 45 minutes. We need at least 10 of these proper hospitals. We need to improve our roads, and we need a high-quality ambulance system to drive on them. And we need paramedic schools — like the one my company is helping to open, the first of its kind in Nigeria.

Some countries in other parts of the world have come up with proactive solutions. In Israel, a group called United Hatzalah helps volunteer emergency workers get quickly to accident sites, by “ambucycle” or on foot, if necessary. But Africa’s challenge will require an African response — and international support.

On the road that night, I quickly assessed that the young man needed urgent medical attention. I gave him oxygen and inserted a makeshift airway. I noted that he probably had internal bleeding and did my best to stem whatever external bleeding I could detect.

A passing taxi then transported him to the nearest hospital. He had a fighting chance. But too many injured Nigerians, forgotten on the side of the road, do not. It’s time the global public-health community paid attention to Africa’s urgent need for emergency medical care.

More attention needs to be placed on emergency care. Sadly, there are too few doctors who realise that every second counts when an emergency situation, presents itself. St. Nicholas probably had the equipment but lacked the right skilled personnel with appropriate knowledge on site, on the day ChazB walked into their hospital. undecided

I don't think u are bn truthful..maybe u took your wife to a mediocre . Give us the hospital name. Liar oshi
Na dis kind thing I no dey like! angry Why on earth are you calling him a liar??! Do you think all your medical colleagues are saints?? shocked I used to have asthma growing up and I have made it a point of duty to learn about the kind of stuff that I am allergic to, so that I can avoid them like a plague.

I was once prescribed Septrin many years back by a doctor, and when I complained to him that I was allergic to Septrin, guess what he said? I "should manage it," as they don't have any other drug in stock, that would cure the ailment I had at that time. I threw the drugs away, sharp-sharp. And promptly went to another hospital for treatment.

I have had relatives and friends whose condition took a turn for the worse, due to the negligence of doctors.

A few years back, an elderly relative was rushed to a private hospital near his house in Lagos, with a high fever at 8p.m at night. He was admitted and given some drugs by the doctor on duty, before he left that evening. sad

The following morning, the next doctor on duty did not attend to this patient until 11a.m when the patient's sister-in-law came in with his food. She then started running around calling the doctor. The doctor checked him up, did some bloodwork and stated that the patient needed a blood transfusion. undecided

Money was coughed out promptly or released on the spot to the hospital, (almost 60k for two pints of blood) at 11.30 am. Until 4p.m when that patient eventually died, no doctor attended to him again despite the sister-in-law's complaints, and the blood transfusion was NOT even done, as there was no blood delivered to the hospital to be given to the patient. 'We are still trying to get the blood,' was all they said. It was extremely painful. His family was thrown into grief. How would you classify this case? shocked

May God continually grant us good health and deliver us from health emergencies.

Last Friday to 11pm and I met accident victims and crowd shortly before Onipanu Busstop. I offered to help take 3 of the 5 most injured to LUTH.

There was only one doctor at the hospital's emergency wing. She was obviously overwhelmed by the various crowds seeking her attention. I had to literally drag her out to my car as one of them was running in and out of comma, with blood gushing from his nose, ears and mouth.

She started questioning me, ' who are they to me?' 'who will bear the bills?' who referred them here?...' She went inside and came back to say there were no beds and we should hold on.

Forty minutes and we were still waiting (how did I know the time? - I called my wife on entering LUTH gate and when she called back to ask 'How far?' was exactly 35 minutes). Then one of the victims said they were all LUTH medical students. Armed with this noveau info I ran inside again to shout it over and over again to anyone who cared to listen went inand just then one student doctor - I safely assume - came out to see them.

We were then referred to an 'Annex' where it took another 'eternity' to have them wheeled to bed.

The LORD help us in this land.
May God Almighty bless you a million times for saving their lives, by rushing them to the hospital in good time.

May you never lack help in time of need, for trying to get them medical attention in a critical time.

May you always be favoured by heaven and on earth, at all times every single day of your life.... undecided

May every good thing that you currently enjoy, never go bad and never cause you sorrow...

generally, emergency response in Nigeria is poor.
and what we see in our accident n emergency room is just a microcosm of Nigerian attitude towards emergencies.
as a doc, I'll admitt our health care system needs a total overhaul.
competency is not the issue, these same docs from our local universities travel out of the country n they thrive well.
the problem is lack of commitment and accountability from everybody involved in our healthcare, right from bottom to top.

as per the case, I have this to say:
dr kevwe is most likely a young inexperienced doc and chazB case was completely beyond him.
however he cannot be exonerated, its obvious he's deficient in basic clinical skills n his medical judgement seems poor.
I wonder why a patient with acute abdomen and in painful distress will be discharged home without any obvious effort to stabilise the patient.

as a consultant, pls if u know u wont have time to attend to emergencies, pls dont take calls.
there is no point, calling u for emergency n u're elsewhere doing locum only for u to show up 12hrs later.
if dr balogun or fadiran made themselves available on that said day, chazB would have stood a chance. They killed that chance.
st nicholas and other big hospitals need to step up, u cannot be collecting millions from clients and delivering mediocre services.
how can a patient's case note be locked up in a doctor's office, thus denying others access to it.
what happened to electronic/computerized medical records. how much will it cost to install one in st nicholas? is it beyond their means?

on a general note, mdcn needs to review the medical curriculum.
emphasis should be on emergency medicine, ethics of the profession and social medicine. every doctor graduating from our medical schools should be well equipped with these skills.
the ministry of health also needs to refocus their attention on what is critical in our health care system.
universal health insurance coverage is non-negotiable. its the ony way out of our
present quagmire.
training and re-training of medical personals should be prioritized.
enough of constructing gigantic but moribund buildings called hospitals.
cuba cannot boast of world class hospitals or facilities, but her doctors are one of the most efficient on planet earth.
we can replicate that in Nigeria if we are committed to see it thru.
I wish all Nigerian doctors were as rational and as sensible as you. May God bless you immeasurably for this post. undecided Am sure St. Nicholas would have collected a heavy fee from the deceased and his family before administering treatment. Yet, the right calibre of medical personnel to administer that treatment, was unavailable.
