danowena:After paying taxes, generating your own light and water, as well as paying land use charges, where would you get additional funds to construct the roads from, if you are a landlord?? ![]() Even the Igbo-efon area that you mentioned, their roads are bad...only the major access road leading into the community is passable. |
Grossly over-priced piece of property for that location.. ![]() |
jason123:Why on earth would the govt site a jetty at Osborne road which opens up directly on to the edge of Third Mainland Bridge at the point where it is most congested?? ![]() It doesn't make sense! It would have been much better to expand Falomo jetty in Ikoyi and also create a bus terminus right under the bridge, instead of building a new ferry terminal/jetty at Osborne! Residents of Osborne Estate (which is a high brow area) have kicked against it, stating that they did not ask for a jetty on their doorstep and that it would lead to an influx of crowds which could threaten the security of their estate. ![]() Another point that has been made, is that buses would then be stopping on the bridge to pick up and drop off ferry-bound passengers, causing greater traffic congestion on 3rd Mainland Bridge. ![]() Honestly, whoever proposed that Osborne jetty to the govt did a great disservice to commuters on that road. The jetty should have been located at Ilubirin which is closer to Central Lagos and the bus parks. I am still waiting to see how it would all play out in the end. |
goldspade:Only God knows. All the boats and ferries shown in the pictures on this thread, belong to private companies (e.g. City link Services, Sea Coach Ferry Services and Texas Connection Ferries etc.). Am yet to see an Eko Water Bus Ferry on any of the routes listed in the previous posts. Even the jetties that were constructed, do not justify the huge amount that was reported to have been spent by govt. ![]() In other countries, the jetties and ferry terminals are a beehive of commercial activities like waterfront cafes & restaurants, shops, parking lots & valet services etc. In Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, the govt constructs a huge concrete slab, adds a few rubber bouys and tags it an ultra-modern jetty. What a joke! ![]() Visit Apapa jetty behind Flour Mills, and you will weep. It is poorly constructed and anytime commuters embark and disembark from the ferry and have to go through the terminal to get access the main road, a lot of them do so with their hearts in their mouth. The steps are rough and constitute a threat to human limbs and mobility, but govt doesn't care. There are no entry or exit signs, no fire extinguishers or air-cons and safety grips at the terminals. Let me stop here.... I get upset just thinking about it! ![]() |
Here is a bit of information on water transportation in Lagos State. Transportation in Lagos (Part |
Great post! Lagos is surrounded by a vast network of water. i.e. rivers, lagoons and even, the ocean. Yet, the state govt and its citizens have not utilised these assets effectively to improve transportation and reduce the gridlock on our highways. There are small speed boats that ply the Badore to Ikorodu axis every day. Badore is located after Ajah, in the Lekki peninsula area. ![]() From the Ebute Ero jetty on Lagos Island, there are ferries that ply the Ikorodu-Ebute Ero-CMS route. There is also the Tarzan jetty (a privately-owned jetty) in the Maroko area of Victoria Island close to Oriental Hotel. There are speed boats that carry passengers from Queens Drive in Ikoyi to Maroko in Victoria Island, every two hours. Unfortunately, water transport is not well publicised and the ferry schedules are unknown by most people. There used to be large ferries plying the Mile 2 - CMS route in the past, but those ferries have packed up now. They were all owned by govt. This is an area that could be a major income generator for both state governments and private individuals, if proper attention is paid to it and good money is pumped in, to upgrade the jetties and ferries. ![]() The Apapa jetty behind Flour Mills is still an eyesore and needs to be upgraded very quickly, to prevent any accidents. I wish there was a ferry service linking Lekki/Lagos Island to Otta in Ogun State. It would reduce the traffic on the old Lagos-Abeokuta by a great deal, if scheduled services were made available by boat. ![]() |
AlabaSlim:Stop venting! Funmo was only trying to draw parallels between the conditions under which students study in Nigeria (e.g. Lautech), and the conditions under which they study abroad. Where is the jealousy in his write-up?? I actually found his comparison, quite hilarious! So why give yourself stress, over a non-issue?? |
Is there an area earmarked for shops within the estate? Pls confirm. |

The OP himself must have subtly encouraged the woman to flirt with him. He likes the attention she has been giving him. If not, he should have shut the whole thing down the minute she made the suggestion, by doing one of the following: 1). Blocking or barring her number from his phone. 2). Asking his sister, fiance or female friends to answer her calls whenever she rings. Such women can warn her to stop calling the guy; ![]() 3). Threatening to report her to her husband or in-laws, if she does not behave herself; ![]() 4). Being abrupt and dismissive any time she calls and eventually severing all communication with her. Sometimes, you have to be cruel, to be kind. ![]() |
TheEqualizer:Ehm.... I actually think most African tops worn by men look like tunics, not shirts. ![]() I would (loosely) classify the agbada as a 'robe', for ease of description. Well, I may be wrong, but I do not think T-shirts should be classified as African attire. I mean, they are.....well, just T-shirts. ![]()

johnstin:A 20MT gas plant in a residential area should be closed down, for safety reasons. It is highly irresponsible of the owners to place such gas plants close to people's homes. If you have ever seen an explosion from a gas tank, or if you have ever experienced a gas leak...then you will understand the hazards involved. As for Auto Gas dispensers, there are LPG Auto Gas Dispensers as well and they are cheaper to operate and install than CNG types. It depends on what kind of gas tank the vehicle carries, inside its boot. |
emrain:She should have thought of that before she started soliciting for sex from a 3rd party. Isn't she a married woman?? Mtcheeew! May she stumble on the site a million times over!! Maybe that will instil some common sense into her. |
Freemanan:Wait o.... what was it you just said? "...WE guys should respect the female folks more. This is a breach of privacy and trust and a defamation of her character..." Ye gods! The married woman was the first to disrespect herself, by asking a single man who is NOT her husband to sleep with her! Secondly, there is no defamation of character here....she exhibited her promiscuity by soliciting for sex from a third party, even though she was lawfully married to a different party. So if the whole story leaks out, how is that defamation? It is merely a report of a series of events that actually happened. If the report causes her to lose face, so be it. ![]() Finally, you advocated that Nature should take its' course. Well, I pray nature exposes her cheating ways to her husband, sharp-sharp! ![]() |
trapQ:Don't mind them. My prayer is that they get their desired Biafra. And very quickly too! Currently, many governors cannot administer their South-East states effectively, so is it a whole country that they will suddenly turn into an Eldorado? smh... ![]() When they leave and decide to come back and apply for visas, then we shall know who is who... ![]() |

So what is the update on this privatisation? Can anyone tell us? Some people are saying that the few trains left behind by Jonathan have disappeared. Is this true? |
Has this bridge been repaired now? Any updates? And can someone please let me know if there is a navigable river that connects Lagos to Otta. If there is one, I believe it would be cheaper and faster to go by boat from Lagos to Otta everyday, instead of going through that madness called traffic along old Lagos Abeokuta road which links Ikeja-Iyana Ipaja-Meiran-Alagbado-Otta. These are alternative options that people need to explore. ![]() |
I still believe the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) needs to be privatised and its management should be overhauled. They do not know how to maintain and improve their assets and commercial operations, in a way that would bring sustained advantage to Nigerian commuters, and boost the corporation's revenue. Otherwise, how can you explain the lack of awareness of train schedules within the intra-city network, in a place such as Lagos? ![]() How can you explain the fact that several of its terminals or train stations are decrepit and yet to be upgraded, in a way that adds value to its operations? ![]() There is no single customer care call centre or phone number that you can call, to get clear info on arrival and departure times of trains, within your community. And this is in the year 2015, where GSM sim cards and communication equipment are like pure water! On Sundays, the trains do not even run within Lagos. Is that how to make money from an essential transport service?? ![]() |
Is your shop in Lekki still open? ![]() |
Guys, please do your research. Google is your friend. Efon Alaye is actually a Yoruba town in Ekiti State. According to Wikipedia: "Effon-Alaiye or Efon-Alaaye is a town in the Ekiti State of southwestern Nigeria, inhabited by Yoruba people. The population in 1983 was over 100,000." The community even has an official web page. http://www.efon-alaaye.ekiti.com/ Even the official web page of the Ekiti State govt not only acknowledges the existence of the town, but gives a graphic description of it: Historical Background and GeographyAs for the girl supporting Radio Biafra who claims to be from Efon Alaye, I seriously doubt her assertion. How come she lists her town under Ondo State, instead of its rightful place - Ekiti State? It is either: a). She is not from Efon Alaye; b). Her mum is from the South-East and she has never visited her home town of Efon-Alaye; c). He boyfriend is from the South-East and he has brainwashed her with these Biafra stories, which she is swallowing hook, line and sinker; d). She is actually an impostor; |
[quote author=From New Telegraph Newspaper : post=35964936]Shehu Sani is a man who demonstrably knows too much about Boko Haram. He knows their full operative and leadership set-up and argues for what they do, did, can do and cannot do. He is always up to date on their decisions and plans and knows the names of all members in their top leadership council at all times. For a group that never negotiates and never trusts anyone, Shehu Sani has remained uncomfortably trusted and close over the years. Revisit this September interview with IBRAHEEM MUSA. His very categorical responses cannot be missed: Q: Recently, you made a post on your Facebook wall, casting doubts on Dr. Stephen Davis’ allegation which fingered Senator Ali Modu Sherrif and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Ihejirika, as the sponsors of Boko Haram. What was your reason for doubting the Australian negotiator? Sani: Nigeria is facing a serious problem of insurgency that has led to the killings of thousands of people, displacement of millions of people and the destruction of the livelihood of millions of people. It’s the major national problem we are facing today. And all hands must contribute towards finding lasting solution to this problem. I think we have been doing our best as citizens and activists and we have taken a lot of risk in this respect. I have got a report that Stephen Davis, the Australian negotiator, had made a statement that implicated former Governor of Borno state, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif and Iherijika, the former Chief Of Army Staff. I have neither met Sherrif nor Iherijika in my life. But I know that it is better to keep quiet than to make statements that cannot be substantiated with facts. I’m quite aware of the sensitivity of this issue and also the desperation on the part of some persons who simply want somebody to hang for what is actually going on. There are a lot of things that we can blame Sherrif for and there are also so many things that you can blame Ihejirika for. But we have to back our points with facts and data on the ground. Now lets take on Sherrif; Sherrif is largely blamed by the insurgent group for being responsible for what happened to them in 2009 and they also fingered him as the man who had a hand in the killing of their leader and many of their followers. And if you have gone through the statements and video posts of the Boko Haram leader, you will see how they consistently vilify and continuously attack Sherrif. They have never hidden the fact that he is a target. Not only him but people who are associated with him. Now if you look at Iherijika, he was Chief of Army Staff under whose tenure there were attacks at Baga and Bama in which scores of people were killed. And he unleashed a reign of force to fight the group. Many people have accused him and the Army under his command at that time of committing massive atrocities in the hunt for Boko Haram members. Now, how can any sensible person align Sherrif and Ihejirika with the funding of Boko Haram? I’m simply baffled by the fact that many Nigerians seem to believe what Davis said. Like I have said, there are lots of things that you can charge Sherrif and Ihejirika for but how can these people who have been declared enemies by this group fund Boko Haram? That is one. Secondly, I have been involved in this issue of negotiation and to me, Boko Haram has never announced the name of any person as a negotiator except on one occasion where they mention a former journalist with Blueprint Newspaper, Ahmed Salkida. Now, Stephen Davis cannot talk to Boko Haram not to talk of them revealing their sponsors. Boko Haram has a Shura council which is made up of 32 people and they have a leader in the person of Abubakar Shekau. There is no person who can reveal the secret of this organisation except if he is a leader of the Shura Council. And there is no Shura Council member that can sit down with a white Australian and tell him their sponsors. As for me, I simply think that the man is being used by certain people to get at Sherrif and Ihejirika. And it is not possible for any negotiator to sit down with Boko Haram and start asking them of their sponsors. They will treat him as an enemy and a spy and he can never get out of that negotiation hall. So, what Stephen Davis said about Ihejirka and Sherrif, to me it’s nothing but a work of fiction, a frame up and attempt to simply rope in these people and destroy them. But that does not mean these two people have no case to answer as far as what is going on. That should also not stop investigation into Davis allegation. Why are you all suprised?? Is this not the same Shehu Sani that is a secret supporter of Boko Haram, despite all the atrocities the sect has committed? Instead of persuading the leaders of the BH sect to renounce violence and stop killing people, he takes delight in pretending to broker peace meetings between that blood thirsty group and govt officials. At the end of the day, nothing is achieved and more lives are lost! ![]() In another country, he would be villified for failing to name members of the sect and also castigated for failing to assist the police to bring them to justice! ![]() |
