cheruv: That's from an Nri website on their history.. You can go to the Ata's palace at Idà to confirm it kos as a researcher, I've gone there and they corroborated the Nri account. This is one of the reasons why people from the omaabala and nsuka cultural areas of Igbo land say ,"Egbuchagodu Igbo niile,Igbo ka foro n'Igala" (even if you kill all Igbos, there's still a remnant[Igbo] in igala). As for the Bini own,ask around bro make inquiries
Guy, your falsehood is getting tiring and nauseating. It is sad that an adult like you can engage in deception. Please read about the history of Igala people here: Your Nri website story is a huge fallacy.
The Origin and Development of Igala People
The actual origin of the Igala people is not quite known. Different people present manyversions of legends of immigration There are claims, for instance, that the Igala people came from the Jukun (Kwarara/a), some says Benin, others Yoruba. Yet, others feel they migrated from Mecca (Southern Yemen) or Mali.
In the past, the reigning Atta, His Royal Majesty. Agabaidu (Dr.) Aliyu O. Obaje, had. for instance, explained: "the !gala came from Southern Yemen, passed through Ethiopia (where there is an ethnic group called the Gala) and through the (medieval times} Empire of Mali, to Jukun land; then finally, to our present location." In another instance, the Atta said that the Igala "came from the Arab country of Yemen and were in the present Nigeria at the same time as the founding fathers of the Yorubas, the Jukuns and the Beriberis or Kanuris Bornu. He also maintains that the earlier migration into Igalaland was at "about the 12th century A.D.... led by Amina, a Zaria princess and warrior. who fought her way to Idah ... with Hausa and Nupe followers.
Certain traditions even hold that the Igala are of Fulani origin, simply because of the similarities in their physical features. It IS clear that Fulanis do not speak a Kwa language. And owing to the linguistic affinity, others affirm the Yoruba connections. For Byng Halt notes that, "It is not surprising that within a short period of arrival in Igala land, a Yoruba is well acquainted withthe language.” He attributes the ease in learning the language to the closeness of the two languages. Armstrong sticks to this same view when he said: "the most definite historical statement that can be made about Igala is that . they had a common origin with the Yoruba and that the separation took place long enough ago to allow for their fairly considerable linguistic differences. There is a whole corpus of oral traditions on the origin of the Igala people.
While this study did not engage in any detailed criticism of the diverse opinions on the Igala origins. it gave a thorough look: at certain inescapable facts, These intricate issues were pin-pointed in order to allow us take a solid stand.
The view that Princess Amina of Zaria led the very first migration into Igalaland in the12th century does not hold water. This is because Queen Amina was a 14th C figure and history has it that the Igala people were already settled in this area and were relating socio-culturally with the Igbos right from the ,7th and 9th century A.D. Moreover, the obvious absence of a legend relating to this princess and warrior .in Igalaland is a clear indication that it might not be true afterall that she actually reached Igala land. Stories on Igala Benin war and Igala-Jukun war, for instance. are very popular. The near dead silence on an Amina war leaves room for great doubts. Niven argues against the presupposition that she died at 'Atagara' (that is ldah) when he said: "she died at Atagara, probably a place iii the Gongola valley then under Kwararafa, not Idah. which is now known as Atagara.'http://www.igalaassociationusa.org/about-us/history-of-igala-kingdom/
vizkiz: I wonder how a sane nigeria man will get married to a lady and still allow her retain her father's name
Well, na normal things these days sha...we still never know Tiwa salvage own
Does changing of surname guarantee eternal happiness or bliss?? Let us know.
It is the commitment, love, honour & respect in the hearts of both parties that matter and how they express such values towards each other.
There are several couples with the same surname seeking for their union to be put asunder, in the divorce courts. A woman might bear your surname and still wish you dead, after a few years. People have been known to change!
cheruv: Too slow tomorrow come and tell me you're not Yoruba You'd ve claimed that all Igbo kings came from outside instead of stopping at Nri and Onitsha Its a fact that onoja went from Nri to establish Idà and moreover Nri ruled a religious empire of which the Bini king was one of its adherents I don't know where the ancients came from.. Still researching on that!
Eeyah! You are determined to foist a Yoruba identity on me, when I am not one! You should really wake up from your hallucinations.
You claim that Onoja went from Nri to establish Idah! Abeg, don't kill me with laughter!
The Igala people of Idah know the truth about their ancestry. Don't rewrite their history for them with your fake stories!
Chukwu biko! Now you are claiming the Bini were adherents of Nri's religion??! Chai! When will your lies end, biko nu?
lolaxavier: About 160 million barrels of crude oil, valued at $13.7bn were stolen under the watch of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI has revealed. The declaration was made by the Executive Secretary of the NEITI, Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna-Ahmed, on Wednesday, July 30, 2015 during his visit to Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna.
NEITI's silliness knows no bounds. Why did it go to complain about the loss of 160 million barrels to el-Rufai??
Is he the police, or the Nigerian Navy?
How many barrels of oil are produced annually, that 160 million barrels would now be stolen? Over what period were all these so-called barrels of oil stolen?
What was the Nigerian Navy doing, when all these millions of barrels were being stolen?
Should the navy not be the one facing a probe, as to how such a huge amount of oil escaped across our marine borders when they were supposed to be guarding our territorial borders?
For anyone attributing the success of GEJ's policies, programmes, plans and achievements to PMB who just emerged on the scene, may all their own plans and achievements be attributed to their own enemies and opponents.
May another man lay claim to their success and take credit for their own hardwork. May their achievements and outputs be attributed to a third party, because of his body language!
989900: 1. The past administration's goal was not to get the refineries working.
2. According to Diezani, they were better sold off.
3. The 4 refineries needed just N99b (after as usual), but the past administration would rather spend trillions on importation of refined products, waste billions on flights and similar sorry things, while our refineries were purposefully left at averagely less than 15-20% functional capacity for years!
4. The non-working refineries meant merry business times for beneficiaries of it's near demise. From oil-swap frauds to subsidy fraud, while the rest of us bear the brunt -- from severe fuel scarcity, to drain on Forex, in effect, strangling of the Naira resulting in hyper-inflation, and ultimately impoverishment of the people.
5. The extent of GEJ's complicity is less known (at least to me).
6. The past admin would not have taken the TAM serious, nor initiate it's commencement in Oct. 2014, if the elections weren't coming up in Feb.2015 (see it's approach to Boko Haram in the build up to the elections for comparison).
7. If the past admin retained the presidency, it would have been business as usual and more of the same. Even the earlier proposed completion date by NNPC (April, 2016), would have been nothing but some pipe dream, in lieu of this earlier completion dates -- cause 'there's a new Sheriff in town'.
8. Contrary to some comments on here, it is actually possible to complete a TAM in 30-60 days or thereabout! TAM took roughly 100 days or thereabout at the Warri refinery in 2000, even though a sizeable portion of it was also affected by fire!
9. Most of the parts needed for the TAM for the PH refinery have actually been sitting locked up in containers at the Onne port for months before now!
10. All the enumerated above are 'facts' carefully researched, vetted, and stated without any sentiment. If you do have any contrary opinion, kindly state it with facts, and not your personal opinion. #welearneveryday
Please this is the internet age. Kindly post the link to your source of these carefully researched and vetted facts, so we can read and verify. We can no longer swallow such stories hook, line & sinker. Most of the comments masquerading as 'facts', have often been found to be nothing more than a figment of the imagination of some folks.
Even PMB has refused to take credit for the revival of the refineries. He said it live on air during a TV programme. I guess you were busy watching a football match on another channel during that time, and you missed it. Even NNPC came up to say they had spent 9 months working on the TAM. Was PMB in power, 9 months ago??
Please see this link and watch PMB declining to take credit for an achievement that cannot be linked directly to him. Some of you are hell-bent on making the man into a deity of some sort, despite the guy's misgivings.
"I cannot take credit for the revival of the refineries because I have no input to it, if I say I had a hand in it, it will be a lie and I cannot tell lies." ~President Buhari said on NTA Towards a Greater Nigeria anchored by Omotayo Omotosho."
obailala: B4 you insult someone, are you aware that GEJ spent about the same amoount on power in his 5 years?... How many megawatts did his administration add to Nigeria?.... How many power plants did he start and finish?
Sir, you should have answered the question first. How many megawatts did OBJ add to the national grid, when he was in power? Was it 200MW, 1,600MW or 900MW? Every correct answer gets 20 marks!!
The truth is that OBJ spent the same amount on power as GEJ, and left the power supply situation in a worse state than GEJ did! So therefore. OBJ has no moral standing to criticise GEJ!
cheruv: You didn't understand that proverb.. The presence of kings in western Igbo land, Onitsha, Arochukwu,Nri should tell you otherwise. What that means is that everyone is a lord to himself and his wife and children.and even though kings maybe present, they'd not dictate to you how you run your life. As for the ancient Biafran empire, it was ruled by the first men or the ancients, whom were known in their native tongue as Ndi Gboo(the ancient ones).majority of present day Igbos descended from those ancients with the remainder coming from outside.
Hmnn...interesting. It is said that Onitsha came from Benin kingdom, etc. Even Nri is said to owe its ancestry to Igala people. Yet, you come here claiming different things. As far as I am concerned, it is other tribes that gave you your kings, so show them some respect, pls!
You still need to tell us where your ancients came from, oh!

Are you sure the land on which the property is standing, is not under acquisition? Please confirm. Thanks.
peace12345: HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT GAZETTE MEANS. SERIOUS-MINDED PEOPLE ARE BUSY INVESTING AND PLANNING FOR THEIR FUTURE WHILE NARROW-MINDED PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS BUSY WRONGFULLY CASTIGATING WITHOUT THE SLIGHTEST INTENTION OF MAKING ANY PURCHASE.
Madam, why the insults?? Do you think people would not do their due diligence before parting with their hard-earned money? So who is castigating you? And where did you see any form of castigation in my statement? When I checked your first post, there was no mention of the title.
Maybe you just added it.
If what you are selling is genuine and you have direct instructions on the property, then you should be more than happy to answer any questions that may arise.
I don't know how many serious-minded people you know, but there is no serious-minded person buying a property in Lagos that would not ask several questions before committing to a property deal. Get used to it!
Oga don't swear. You did not put an asking price there, so we have to make an offer based on our budget and average market price for used Tokunbo versions of this car model. Understand??
So back to my question, can it fly for =N=750k? A simple 'yes' or 'no' would do. Thanks.
klexym: The truth some people find hard to accept is that OBJ did well for Nigeria during his tenure as democratically elected president of Nigeria. His singualr efforts brought Nigeria back on the global map as an emerging economy to reckon with only for the clueless administrations of Ya'adua and Jonathan to rubish the efforts with daylight robbery of the national commonwealth. If not that we do not have an existing value system, one does not expect some people to come to a forum like this to defend Jonathan against genuine comments made by OBJ on how GEJ lost focus and failed.
Which dirty singular efforts, for crying out loud??! ! What 'emerging economy', biko nu ?? In fact, I believe we won far more accolades on the global map under GEJ than under OBJ! Ask the World Economic Forum (WEF).
OBJ only paid back loans taken from western creditors including the IMF & World Bank, and increased our external reserves, while keeping our army in a moribund state, our infrastructure in disrepair, our healthcare system on death row and our industries in a comatose situation!
People are not defending Jonathan because he is perfect. NO! People are attacking OBJ, because he is nothing more than a hypocrite who wants to pull others down out of misplaced sense of envy. Kilode??!
Did OBJ too not lose focus? Did he not fail? Or what else would you call a man who spent 4 years (or is it 8 years) planning the so-called design of a modern railway system but failed woefully to execute it, knowing he had a limited tenure??
seunmsg: Looool, I feel you OP. If you don't have history, you can always write one for yourself after smoking weed. Good thing is, fellow weed smokers like you will buy this your version of history.
Hehehe .... una no go kill person with laughter for here!
But wait o...what happened to that proverb, Igbo enwe' Eze (i.e. Igbo have no kings?)
If they had no kings, when did they suddenly start building empires? Who ruled over those empires?
babestella: Which OBJ oversaw GSM, please stop that. GSM came to Nigeria because it was the right time for it to come, and soon as ity came, Nitel went into extinction. As at the time GSM came to Nigeria, most west african countries already had GSM. Technology was sweeping across all nations, OBJ couldn't had stopped it.
It's like saying OBJ oversaw children growing teeth, it's funny because your teeth will always grown when the tike is due, no human can stop it. GSM was a developmental investment that was bound to happen, it only happened during the time of OBJ. One of the factors that facilitated this was a stable democratic process which normally boosts investors confidence on ROI.
Don't mind them. It was actually Babangida that put in place the policies and machinery for the deregulation of the telecoms sector. OBJ came in at the tail end and cashed in, taking the glory for himself..... as usual.
obailala: And why have you never considered that it could be proper planning?... Which leader likes to just sit down and watch as his people suffer even when there's money in the account?
Do you really think OBJ not awarding contracts randomly (even though the funds were piling up in the reserves), do you honestly think that is an act of a man who didn't know where he was going to?
So how do you compare that with the one who has finally spent al the money yet we still remain where we are?... Think bro.. try and see the bigger picture. Don't try to view this only through the lense of politics; this is common sense.
What kind of proper planning! Does planning last for ever? He planned for 8 years, abi? That is the height of cluelessness. He knew he had a limited tenure, yet he planned so much that he fell far short on execution, during that period. This is truly the hallmark of failure.
The man had a sinister, hidden agenda and wanted a third term to execute it! Thank God, Nigerians kicked against it.
GEJ may not have done much better, but he definitely was NOT worse than OBJ, and he is not the devil that OBJ keeps trying to make him out to be.
I have seen the big picture...OBJ is the one offering the Nigerian populace, a chalice of advice laced with poison!
Kenobus: This is very wrong and a bad comment. this isnt how to appreciate. GEJ did his best under the circumstances with funds available. He really did well. OBJ is just envious of GEJ. I saw Sanusi riding the rail in Kano and they were all happy.
Even Buhari and Osinbajo rode on the train, while they were propagating their campaign for CHANGE!
obailala: The moneys spent by Yaradua and GEJ for those projects you laud them for, a chunk of those moneys were saved by OBJ. OBJ met a foreign reserve of $5billion dollars when he assumed office but he grew that amount to over forty something billion dollars by the time he left office. OBJ also created the ECA account and grew it from zero to over $20 billion dollars by the time he left office. OBJ also wiped our external debts from over thirty something billion dollars to less than 5 billion. The question I ask is, what did other administrations do apart from reducing these savings to zero with next to nothing to show for it?... Yet we celebrate them and claim OBJ was a useless baboon.
No doubt that OBJ was a corrupt man too, but I find it rather repulsive that he is being adjudged as having achieved absolutely 'nothing' for Nigeria.
Yeah.....OBJ paid back money, and OBJ saved money. What next?? Is he a banker or a thrift collector?
Other countries would have taken part of those funds, and invested it in developing infrastructure to make life better for their citizenry, creating jobs to improve the lot of their people, improving healthcare to prevent (or at least, reduce) mortality, security to safeguard internal and external borders from aggressors and driving commerce to make it easier for companies to do business.
On the social and financial well-being index, how were Nigerian citizens faring under OBJ?
Am not saying his successors were perfect, but OBJ's holier-than-thou attitude makes me puke!
obailala: Just like I mentioned earlier, the positive economic, political and social impacts of those 'mere' actions are not visible or quantifiable. So it is very okay if you and I don't see them. As typical Africans, all we can see are the things that immediately put food on our tables.
Biko, if an action can give birth to "positive economic, political and social impacts" (to use your words) even if those 'mere' actions are not visible or quantifiable, then it means such impact can be verified.
Please provide verifiable proofs of the positive economic, political and social impact that OBJ's 'mere' actions had on the lives of ordinary Nigerians, when he was in power.
As for seeing the things that put food on our tables, I make no apologies for that. Are you advocating that we should turn a blind eye to those things, if they are legitimate and appropriate, and end up dying of hunger??
Bros, it is those things which put food on our tables, shelter over our heads, clothes on our backs, healthcare at our doorstep, education in our schools and jobs which provide a regular, sustainable paycheck, that enable us to have something called a "quality of life." Others would call it "contributing to our well-being."
If you want to continue dwelling on the esoteric plane, feel free.
cheruv: That they bear Yoruba names and do all those Yoruba things you listed doesn't make them Yoruba. Its just like the Taiwanese and the Chinese, the Monegasque and the French or the Saudis and the Yemenis. They're not the same bro!
Why are you so ignorant? Has any of those people ever told you that they are NOT Yoruba??
cheruv: Just as you annexed the ijebus-igbos,aworis and eguns to your territories
Direct your question to the Yoruba people, because I can't speak for them. But I have worked in all those areas where Egun, Awori and Ijebu-Igbo people live and none of them have ever denied being Yoruba. All their names, customs, marriages, naming ceremonies, proverbs, ethos, traditions and norms are Yoruba. Their languages are merely dialects of Yoruba language.
You are the only one claiming that they are not Yoruba, and honestly, your ignorance is appalling!
refreshrate: God when i read posts like these i cant help but believe there is yet hope for this country.
Might i interest you sir in a line of prayer sir?
God will continue to bless you even more than you expect. You see that source of knowledge and wisdom you have? It will lead you to sit before kings and gain favour before them.
As for that guy youre responding to...make i no talk.
basilo101: Lol, same way parts of delta and rivers are speaking igbo and having igbo names and cultures, wit d above coment u hv accepted dat dey r igbos
Bros, stop shooting yourself in the foot! Igbanke people bear names like Omorodion, Ovia, Irabor, Uwabor etc. Are those names Igbo as well?
This issue has been debated on several threads on Nairaland. Just do your research and stop calling people what they are not, biko!
obailala: I was only pointing out the bit which OBJ did in his tenure which people have refused to see (because it seems invisible). OBJ gathered the funds required for development and also made Nigeria credit worthy and politically respected worldwide. He picked Nigeria from the gutter in 1999 and gave us a reputation and a huge bank account; this fact I am sure you cannot dispute. It was left to his successors to build on what he had gathered (funds and reputation), but they all squandered it and returned us to nothing.
Even King David of the Bible in his tenure gathered the materials needed to build the temple; Solomon eventually did the building. You cannot underestimate the importance of the 'gathering' phase. However, it is only a typical African man who only cares about the food he eats today that does not think the 'gathering' phase is of any importance. We only think progress is when a new road is built or dualised or when a public building is repainted. Bro, real progress goes way beyond that.
Na God I take beg you, please free your mind.
OBJ merely repaid loans that Nigeria had taken from the World Bank and other international financial institutions. That was the mission Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was paid to do and she was rewarded with a promotion at the World Bank! How did that increase Nigeria's standing, or the way the rest of the world viewed her citizens? During that period, I know how Nigerians were still being discriminated against at major international airports and foreign embassies here, simply because of their green passport, oh!
How much foreign direct investment was recorded under OBJ?
What was the level of infrastructure development recorded under OBJ?
Even the old Lagos Abeokuta Road leading to OBJ's farms remained an eyesore under OBJ's regime and it is still an eyesore till today, with its daily traffic nightmare and horrible craters called potholes.
All over the world, governments arrange financing and use it to deliver projects that can be seen by all and sundry. So please stop waxing lyrical or biblical, by comparing David and Solomon's era. Even the Bible records all the projects that David completed, during his tenure. Only the temple was not built, because God said "his hands had been stained by blood!" David did not lack the will, the strength, the vision or the ability to build it!
obailala: The train tracks you talk about, it was under OBJ's regime that the masterplan of the modernised Nigerian railway system was prepared. OBJ successfully constructed the Ajaokuta - Warri standard gauge line (which is of great economic importance to the steel cities) and he was about commencing the Abuja to Kaduna standard gauge rail when he handed over to Yaradua. However GEJ came in and renovated the 1903 narrow gauge tracks from Lagos to Kano instead of following the masterplan which was meant to replace the old tracks with modern standard gauges. Now we can only have snail speed trains and people are celebrating GEJ and insulting OBJ. A little investigation would even reveal that the money squandered in resuscitating the 1903 lines would have at least built half of the modern lines thereby giving us standard world class high speed trains.
And how many tonnes of steel have been moved by the standard gauge rail tracks constructed from Ajaokuta to Warri? How many passengers have ridden on those tracks? Don't forget that Ajaokuta Steel is still comatose till today.
I said earlier that OBJ should be smacked on the bum for his tardiness. After reading this, I believe he should be flogged for spending 8 years to create a design!!!
As for GEJ, he needs to be publicly exposed and brought to book, if what you have written here is true!
sweatlana: Once again buhari and apc playing to the gallery. If there's something to expose, expose it!
Oh wait a minute. The list will also indite those who put him in power!
This would be a true test of buharis integrity. He must expose all the culprits.
One day, one rumour from APC kitchen cabinet. Na which day dem go tire?
Why didn't the same America give Buhari the list of the sponsors, financiers and arms suppliers of Boko Haram?
Why didn't the same America give Buhari the location and bank accounts of Boko Haram's backers, and the locations of the top hierarchy within their sect, as well as where their families are hiding? Why didn't the same America provide the locations of the abducted Chibok girls?
Why didn't the same America sell arms to Nigeria to help them wipe out Boko Haram?
Instead, the same America hid under the skirts of Amnesty International (AI) and Leahy's Law to accuse Nigerian Army of war crimes, while innocent Nigerian citizens in the North East were being slaughtered daily by Boko Haram!! Ok, how does America describe the crimes committed by the Boko Haram henchmen?
Abeg, make I hear word! There are enough money laundering laws in America, that can be used to track & seize funds illegally stored in their banks, by the so-called fraudulent oil thieves. Why has America not done so? Instead, the APC kitchen cabinet trying to cover the slow poke character of their masters, is jumping up and down alleging that a list has been given to their President by America.
And what is it with the present government and LISTS?
chai
Don't mind them!! Dem think say na everybody be mumu! The same America knows who bought the oil that was stolen and/or sold, as well as which vessels carried the stolen oil. Don't forget that they own the largest fleet of oil tankers in the West. The money made from lifting the oil by the vessel owners should also be seized. They should announce the whole thing, nah!
cheruv: Don't mind the gworo eater I just found out ijebus aren't yolobas..no wonder the other yolobas are persecuting them
Very funny, the Ijebu are not Yorubas according to you.
They just bear Yoruba names, wear Yoruba outfits. conduct their marriage, naming ceremonies and festivals according to Yoruba tradition, uphold Yoruba customs and traditions.... yet in your small mind, they are not Yoruba.
Hehehe....keep deceiving yourself and exposing your ignorance.
cheruv: that's my territory and coat of arms..am very proud of the ethnicities that habit my national territory and hope that one day we would build a sovereign state that would've a strong economy and a powerful military. my nation is united by religion, culture and language.. coolscott,if you're very patriotic to your ethnic nation like I am,lemme see your ethnic national map and coat of arms
Guy, this your dream of territorial expansion will fail, oh! People from Igbanke, Ika and some other areas in your map have consistently denied being Igbo. So why are you annexing their territories in your map??
Genius100: What most do not know is that GEJ's railway was a bastardization of the project began by OBJ. OBJ completed the design, awarded the contract and started the project only for GEJ to bastardize the project with an obsolete design while stealing loads of money
He spent 4 years completing a design? He should be smacked on the bum for his tardiness and clueless behaviour!
