You hear the flimsy excuses by your supervisors that they did their program for five years and at that no individual would run less amount under their tutelage.
We are our own problems walahi My own lecturer spent 10 years doing his Ph.D in a Nigerian university. When I wanted to start my own programme, he advised me to go abroad and get it done, if possible. In some foreign universities, you can even do a Ph.d in 2-3 years and scale through with flying colours. DBAs can not exceed 2 years, if you are hardworking. He then showed me other lecturers here, who spent 15 years in the same field, trying to get their own doctorate degree. |

nosiebaba: Let me enlighten people about this. The gas in use is called compressed natural gas. CNG. It is not lpg, lpg liquified natural gas is the common butane gas used for cooking and its in liquid form. Cng is dry gas with moisture content at all. Natural gas is what turbines used in generating electricity both PHCN gencos, redemption camp winners canaanland etc.. It is the cleanest fossil fuel on earth this gas is very very safe and there is no hazard of explosion like many of you think. The cylinders you see are extremely thicker than your normal cooking gas cylinders. About 20 mm thick. Even if cases of a very fatal accident, there is no damage to the cylinder. IN Nigeria Nipco and green gas started converting vehicles to run on both natural gas or petrol depending on which on which one is availabe. There ia a button to switch to either petrol or gas. The project started in benin and more than 4000 vehicles run on natural gas in nigeria( Benin and lagos) even some brt buses and they have been running for over 7 years in nigeria alone. Please do some research developed countries have most of their vehicles, buses and metro trains running on natural gas. All the trucks i. This picture runs on natural gas Pls send questions i would reply them to give more clarity. LPG is not only used for cooking. Guy, both CNG and LPG can be used to power or fuel cars. It depends on the type of conversion kit, used in your vehicle. In Lagos, there are more stations selling LPG autogas, than CNG autogas. Secondly, it is easier to transport LPG autogas from the gas depot using gas haulage trucks, than it is to transport CNG autogas from a depot/CNG mother station to a retail station, using specialised cascades. It is cheaper, and more environmentally friendly to run your cars on autogas than petrol. The conversion process, turns your vehicle into a dual-fuel one, which means you can either use petrol or gas to fuel the car. In times of fuel scarcity, this is always a good thing, because instead of queuing at petrol stations for ages, you can simply switch to gas and go on your way. For some conversion kits however, you still need to have a small quantity of petrol in your tank, before you can switch over to gas, in order to power your vehicle. |

sniper77: It's only becoming new to Nigerians. It's a common sight in Ghana mostly used by taxi drivers and safety standards are adhered to cos it's installed in the booth of the taxis. This one installed in the bus is clearly unsafe and a big risk to the lives of the passengers and the driver. mikeapollo: This phenomenon is almost 20 years old in Ghana! Majority of the commercial vehicles in Accra use gas. This cannot be an innovation in 2018, except for the fact that Nigeria is lagging behind in so many basic things and whatever little new thing that we do becomes a ''big thing'' for us to hype and celebrate unnecessarily! True! The most important thing is to adhere to the safety standards and ensure that the right type of gas, is used during refueling. |

Our IPOB youth will not do diligent work.....be brandishing useless numbers #upandan mapet: Arguing on this premise itself is very ignorant...... I had earlier asked those who posted that estimate that was the Nigerian Airforce invoiced through google search or wikipedia? Bros, we need to up the ante in our level of analysis. "Critique" is a "necessary pill", a necessary assessment tool, but when the basis of critique is faulty, any argument based on such is faulty mapet: Are you for real? Global Supply chain circles? wtf is that? This is when I see knowledge grossly misapplied. Bros, spare me this supply chain explanation, it is contextually not what is in play...... You rightly argue in part that since we do not have a breakdown analysis of the scope (BoQ you call it)of this project........., one would expect you to surmise that without the scope you can hardly argue the absolute cost, yet came to the conclusion a 3-fold increase. You cannot be making assumptions when you do not and cannot put the scope of the project into perspective. You are just making things up. Look up reports and get a sense of the coverage of this project.
This is a govt-govt deal for Christ's sake. This is not a middle-man/black-market weapons contract. If you cannot see beyond your limited view and want to reduce this to some charade reminiscent of your company's procurement contract, then good luck. There is nothing wrong with expressing scepticism or doubt, when bogus figures are being bandied around, without supporting facts. So stop gloating like a retar.d. The Nigerian govt gave a total sum for buying the planes, without a breakdown of the inputs and added components making up the sum. Other sources online showed that the unit cost of the Tucano planes, were vastly different from what the govt quoted. And you expect everyone to swallow it hook, line and sinker without any questions? Niggah, puh-leeze! I respect people who make enquiries and confront issues with facts and verifiable info, instead of those who make excuses and try to gloss over issues, because they believe their leaders in govt are infallible. Deomelo went out of his way to bring additional factors to light, by giving a detailed breakdown, which you failed to do, and changed the narrative by shedding more light on the subject. What did you do? You went on a fishing expedition prattling the word 'configuration,' up and down, as if that was a criteria for such widely divergent sums, being expended in the purchase of the Tucano. I have no apologies, for asking questions and querying the assumptions made on this thread. If it offends you...too bad! Now kindly do me a favour & get off my mentions, if you have nothing intelligent to say!

deomelllo: You raised objections per 3 times the original cost and I showed you facts that Lebanon paid 4 times the unit cost.
I do understand the need to shift your goal post to SPECS, but you should have inserted specs into your initial comment about cost and even going by available facts, Nigeria is getting beyond what other countries are getting because apart from mounted guns, precision and guided bombs and missiles, radar, avionics, cameras and so on, we're getting ground support equipment, and hangar, facilities, and infrastructure required to support the program for 12 aircrafts.
lol @ ipob hijacking your handle. No disrespect, this is just the kind of comments ipobs litter NL with.., My initial response was actually made in response to another poster's direct comment. Prior to that, someone had posted a screenshot of the cost of a Tucano jet, showing that it costs about $9 million to $14 million USD, per plane. This just threw up a lot of questions, when compared with the total amount that Nigeria was reported to have spent on the jets. Hope this clarifies the issue. |

deomelllo: Lebanon paid $240 million for 6 Super Tucano = $240 million ÷ 6 = $40 million
That's $40 million/1 Super Tucano.
That's 4 times the so-called $10 million unit Cost
Nigeria is buying 12 = $496 million ÷ 12 = $41 million
That's $41 million/1 Super Tucano
Obviously, we paid almost the same amount Lebanon paid for each Super Tucano. So, is the Lebanese government hiding something also?
On top of that, have you factored in the fact that hangar, facilities, and infrastructure required to support the program for 12 aircraft are part of the cost apart from training, guns, bombs, missiles, radar/avionics and so on?
Oga laudate, shey this ipobian comment and type of argument is really coming from you or ipobs hijack your handle ni? The sky is always the limit per whatever options and requirements you desire.... IPOBian comment? From my moniker? God forbid bad thing! But was the specs of the Tucano that Lebanon bought for 40 million USD, the same as the one Nigeria ordered? We need to compare the BoQ, o! If we are able to do so, and they are identical, all that would be left would then be to compare the base model Tucano, with the type that Lebanon & Nigeria bought, to see if we can justify the huge difference in costs! |

SalamRushdie: It's definitely LPG as there is no coolant gas that can time 4 stroke engine ..for him to even lie about that has shows his piping can never even be trusted ..thats a fireball waiting to happen bro But the refuelling dispenser clearly states CNG. Green Gas Ltd is known for selling CNG, not LPG. But those white tanks inside the danfo, do not look like CNG tanks, but LPG tanks. If the drivers are buying and storing CNG into LPG tanks, it is highly risky. Both gases have different specs. One major difference is that CNG is stored at pressures that can be more than 10x that of LPG. LPG pressure is less than 2 MPa whilst CNG is 20 – 25 MPa. This much higher pressure of CNG requires a much heavier and more expensive cylinder or tank. |

mapet: It depends on how you are looking at it. You need to unpack what you call "configuration". The Presidency needs "not tell us" what we can figure out, if we look critically. Projects of this nature requires you acquire the planes, acquire knowledge and expertise on maintenance, retrofitting and servicing. It requires you stock up a defined level of parts for serving and replacements. It requires you stock up weapons (bombs and missles) in large quantities, especially now that we are at war and will be for a while more.
Feel free to pick some of this from reuters
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nigeria-usa/nigeria-says-u-s-agrees-delayed-593-million-fighter-plane-sale-idUSKBN1EL1EN In global supply chain circles, whoever did the procurement and negotiation for these planes, that led to a 3-fold increase in the final cost of the planes, would be sacked on the spot. Training and maintenance/first-level servicing skills are often offered as a free bundle alongside the price, for such machinery, for a limited period of time. Unless we can see a breakdown of the BoQ, or spares along with their prices, it would be premature to attribute the 3-fold increase, to just these things. As for parts and spares, it is unlikely that parts would be bought for every single item or every single plane in the fleet. What often happens, in the case of heavy-duty machinery and specialised equipment, is that where multiple units are ordered together at the same time, parts are bought for a percentage of them - maybe half of them. It is unlikely that all planes in the fleet would go bad at the same time, or develop identical faults within the same period, except if there is a design flaw. There is also a warranty which lasts for like 6 months - 1 year on sich specialised equipment. I still say, there is something the Presidency, is not telling us..... |

mank1234: Thank you for this post. I had to share it cos you acknowledge the positives in the technology in addition to stating how to make it safer. With the few modifications you mentioned that technology can be made safer and world class. The technology is not a new one. It is quite old and highly popular in Western Europe and the US. The gas used to fuel cars, trucks and buses in Europe, is known as autogas. The gas can either be CNG or LPG. Both have different specs, properties, valves etc, and cylinders for storage. The cylinder for CNG is 3x thicker than the one used for LPG, because CNG is stored at higher pressures than LPG. If you own a petrol vehicle, please just get an accredited technician to carry out the conversion for you using a standardised conversion kit, and then make sure you can locate the right gas fuelling source for your vehicle. In Lagos, there are more stations selling LPG autogas, than CNG autogas. |

Bobbybube: How can it be a coolant and yet drive an engine? The vehicle has a combustion chamber with spark plugs. It originally used fuel or diesel which produces fire or spark that causes locomotion. Even ancient trains that used water had to heat it to boiling temperature. If such "coolant gas" existes its technology can not be in a rickety molue. What is there is the normal cooking gas (which is cool at room temperature) but very volatile and combustible. It is not normal cooking gas. It is CNG - compressed natural gas. |

mank1234: Good thinking good product!
The position of the cylinder is perfect: under the car will expose it friction with the road and possibly explosion, on top of the car it will be exposed to heat.
The pipe work as shown in the image is however poor. It should be encased in an inaccessible pipe and away from direct view of passengers.
The risk here is no different from that in aeroplane, jet and rocket when done right. I'm sure the initial users of pms were equally scared. SalamRushdie: Definitely a mobile bombs waitng to happen ...Bad call..
I also know this is an ad That installation was so poorly done! The gas tank is supposed to be placed in the trunk, and NOT under the passenger's seat! Safety locks, anti-roll devices and valves are also absent. There should also be a fire-retardant casing surrounding the tank... |
