It is like the police invited you for questioning after an allegation and you declined. Constitutionally, the house is powered with the oversight function to scrutinize the policy of the president, so there is nothing illegal in what they have done. We all know Trump did pressure the Ukrainian president to open an investigation over Joe Biden son, Hunter. And this is similar to the Russia's email scandals with Clinton during the last election.

You can't say you are sure of trump pressuring the Ukrainian president to investigate Biden son when you were not there at least not when you have no proof at sight. If I'm trump I won't honor such hearing without substantial proof at sight. It's an eye for an eye.

Fair trial is for senate to allow the witnesses to testify and their claims investigated if possible by the FBI before casting their votes, that's what Nancy Pelosi is demanding and the reason for holding on to the articles of impeachment.

and why should trump allow the witness to testify when they can't provide evidence or the so called whistle blower during the trial for questioning. Why should he comply to their sham, kangaroo court order built on baseless hearsay? I agree with you, especially on the selfishness of politicians. I admire Donald Trump for his resilience and surviving many battles including the 2016 elections and the Stormy Daniels case. Those who fight him seem to fade into oblivion or end up in prison or even shamed. However, Donald Trump has a VERY volatile temperament. He talks too much and seems very petty. However, he seems favoured (we cannot discountenance this), and I would say he should have the mannerism of a Mike Pence, and stop fighting everyone. My point is that if the voting is secret ballot, the Republican Party machinery may decide to sacrifice him to protect themselves and their seats in future elections.

Even though Trump survives this impeachment, it would take a toll on the Republican Party in next year's elections if he chooses to contest.

why would they be ashamed of the man that made them win the seat in the first place. All the people trump supported in the last election all won while Obama's men all lost 4 of his supported candidates. What does that tell you? The senators will never lose their seats because they supported trump in this impeachment rather the democrats should be wary of losing their seats due to witch hunting and one sided judgment without evidence. His fanbase will increase increase sympathy.

Donald Trump has locked horns with almost everyone, including a sixteen year old climate activist. He doesn't take advise, he has destroyed many careers because he is very impulsive. Many capable hands have left his government. He is too volatile and his buffoonery is quite unique.

I am sure the old foxes like Senator Mitch McConnell would have been tired of him but won't publicly admit it, because Trump is now a political liability. This impeachment, whether ratified by the US Senate or not, would impact on the Republican party in the next elections. Many risk losing their seats if Trump is acquitted. I suspect some disenchanted Republicans may ask for a secret ballot so no one knows who voted for what. And in the not so unlikely event that that happens, the impeachment would be ratified.

Impeachment does not remove him from office. It goes to the senate for a trial, where 67 senators have to vote to remove him.

Republicans hold the majority with 53 senators while the democrats have 47 senators. That means 20 senators from the republicans side have to defect to vote to remove the president, which is unlikely to happen.

The Majority leader, McConnell and Chairman of the Judiciary commitee, Graham, both said the President will not be removed from office and they will move to acquit the president once it gets to the senate.

I'm tired of nairaland Democrat wannabes. I told them it's impossible to remove trump from office. No way 20 Republicans gonna vote to convict him at the senate.
