Nchenches:The whole population of the SE plus Delta North and Rivers Igbos is 25 million as can be deduced from their NIN registration figures compared to Lagos state assuming Lagos to be 23 million and that figure contains millions of non Igbos in the cities and other places Igbos in Yoruba land should be around 2 million if Yoruba is 70 percent of Lagos and Igbo is one quarter of the rest added to less than 500 k Igbos in the remaining five states. Yoruba in Lagos can be eighty percent though Igbos in the North will be like 700k. I know this because non Yorubas from all over the country are less than three percent of Osun. I grew up there and I am sure of this which means southerners in the North can't be up to two percent of the population by any means since Northern states are not as urbanized as Osun and Igbos will be less than one third of the total number of Southerners. Northern states are not half as urbanized as Osun. Igbos in the US of the less than one million Nigerians there will be like 200k. In Europe maybe another 200k or less. Yoruba are more than half of Nigerians in Europe and North America as well as Australia All Igbos in the rest of the world can not surpass one million maybe not up to half of that. How then did you arrive at 70 million? Are you counting all African Americans as Igbos? So from this analysis, Igbos worldwide are way below thirty million in population if you remove the non Igbos living on Igboid land. If you are using too high estimates for yourself then you will be wondering why you are not making some mark when others are when the problem is that you are not up to what you think you are up to. If Igbos were seventy million Their segment of Nollywood would be the biggest They will have a high number of high net worth people in Nigeria They will have the highest number of Professors and even lawyers, doctors etc as well as even UME candidates among others. |
Should there be a limit on wealth acquisition? In my opinion, the answer is No. Wealth accumulation is just a game. It is the biggest game in town. There should be freedom and most people agree on this and part of freedom is to be able to pursue what you want that is not of harm to anyone. If it is a free market economy, then it will be wrong to say people should not be wealthier than a certain threshold. However every worker must be made to join the effort or rather the game of wealth accumulation and that will be enough. If you have enough for yourself, then there will be no sense in complaining that someone has too much or more than enough. Making every citizen an investor-worker hybrid is the main intervention that is needed along with making high net worth people pay their fair share of taxes and this starts with them paying themselves taxable wages higher than anyone reporting to them. Also, when residual incomes like dividends reach a certain threshold then it can be taxed at the highest personal income tax rate or even higher. Those are the kind of interventions needed most and definitely not putting a ceiling on how high anybody's net worth should be. The use of money for the society is to create more value to help the society move ahead, therefore if you spend excessively on luxury, you should be taxed. Net worth after all is mostly in equity and equity may theoretically not yield any income for years but also equity is the basis for controlling a company. If you tax equity or take it away from those owning it in the name of keeping them under a net worth threshold then you are taking it away to give to entities or individuals who may not have the wherewithal to run the company in question. So let people accumulate whatever they want while operating under the agreed upon guidelines but others must join them because if there are no millions of people forming the market, nobody can get wealthy. The millions of people that make up the market must therefore join in the biggest game in town even if only passively and that is the right way to respond to the issue of some people getting too wealthy. If you can not beat them, then join them is the right response or way forward |
gidgiddy:You are saying what Colonel Ojukwu should have said in 1967 instead of going to war and I believe if he had said what you are now saying then General Gowon would have agreed or don't you think so? Words can do things that firearms would not be able to achieve. Why didn't Colonel Ojukwu ask for a referendum? Or a return to democracy? |
gidgiddy:General Gowon did what he had to do. Granting states to the minorities can't be faulted and it was supported by the majority of Nigerians especially those who were given the states. The owners of the new states were very happy and in actual fact that is what mattered most. The governor's of the new states were indigenes of those states and at a point General Gowon agreed to regional armies etc but Colonel Ojukwu refused. If you think it was worth it to go to war over state creation, that is your prerogative. After that, he had options, he could have secured the East and faced the direction he was being attacked from. The federals were running out of ammunition too not that it was easy for them and if Biafra maintained control over PH, Bonny and Calabar then it may have been possible for them to win the war. Pakistan seceded successfully from India so it was not something impossible. Biafra instead opened another warfront to the west despite knowing that the two regions to the west had announced they will not allow an invasion of Biafra from their land and this resulted into a marine invasion of Biafra by the 3 marine commando that set sail from Lagos and that was the main reason Biafra lost. Who will win or lose was not determined from the beginning. Creating states was the right move by General Gowon because you would have done the same in his shoes. If I were Colonel Ojukwu I would have restrained myself from trying to take Lagos |
Opiletool:There is nothing wrong in worshipping or greeting people whether dead or alive. It is just reverence and there is no human being that does not do it except you are not human. Don't be deceived that Jesus is worshipped and Mohammed is not. In what way exactly? No one is more worshipped than Mohammed. Don't be brainwashed. Then orisa is just an exceptional person in Yoruba thought. They are people that added to civilization or advanced human civilization in any sector. It can be by inventing something or by being a very successful monarch and etc. There are several Ogun. The inventor of money was Ogun, the inventor of iron was Ogun, the inventor of markets was Ogun. Any inventor is actually an Ogun because Ogun is the path clearer and founder. Ogun was Onire, Alara, Akirun, Ajero and etc. Obatala is a benevolent elder more often male than female. Osanyin is magician and healer that uses natural things. Oya is a female energy associated with swift change. It is the female version of Ogun. Esu is analytical, deliberate and etc. He wants you to use your common sense and wants you to suffer if you don't. You need Esu to always make the right decisions. An Esu incarnate will not take nonsense from anybody. Esu will always write a perfect PhD dissertation and etc etc. People who manifest these energies greatly become orisa and if you worship them as the Muslims do Mohammed it isn't wrong. Let the Muslims stop worshipping Mohammed before their opinion on how other people worship who they respect can be taken seriously |
Conservarmy:He can as the most recent just built refinery cost 470 million dollars in Angola and it is 30,000 BPD but I guess no pipelines. However he did not have the vision and if he starts now, it will take years to finish. This is why Dangote must be commended. Merely building the refinery doubled Dangote's net worth but he will not be able to succeed unless they ban imports for him like they banned cement. He can't succeed in a free market if he owns the refinery ninety percent the way he owns the cement business simply because he is owing banks at high interests. The companies in the cement sector in Nigeria too will have to change ownership structure if the ban on importation is lifted |
Samantha125:People were beaten to death by security forces. Some people were shot to death by masked men. A taxi driver was killed in the same way. The ones done by security forces can't be excused but you are saying the other ones were random crimes that could have happened to anyone? You may be right but the reality is that there is xenophobia in South Africa that needs to be managed. Manage the people working in your economy or deport them without harming them. |

QuinQQ:You can't destroy Iran with conventional bombs.you can just damage not wiping off the map as you originally inferred and people have been changing their ways before religion was invented, I am surprised you don't know this |
QuinQQ:The US could have nuked the USSR before the USSR acquired nukes but they didn't and now they will not nuke any country or is it now that many countries have nukes that they will use nukes in a war they initiated? President Trump has announced that there will not be the use of nukes and it is nothing to do with Christianity but to do with maintaining balance and peace on Earth. People changing from their evil ways have existed since the beginning of time and it is not something introduced by religion. The only thing introduced to Earth by religion is aggression over God and nothing else |
1nice:You are obviously a young man. SS is six states. Four were in the Eastern region while two formed the Midwest with capital at Benin as at 1967 when Biafra was declared However there are Igbo speaking people in the Midwest and I guess that is the source of your confusion |
QuinQQ:In the pre Christian world, they fought only over territory but in the Christian world, they now fight over faith in addition to territory. We don't need more reasons to fight wars and even wars over territory are no longer common as it used to be while war over God continues |
QuinQQ:Anything that has been established to cause wars shouldn't be allowed in public. It should not even be encouraged in private |
QuinQQ:Christianity and Islam trying to convert the whole world do not work better than traditional spiritualities that maintain their own lane and let others breathe! People who say God is a maniac burning idolators and unbelievers in hell are not the right guys. Tell me one thing they added to human civilization other than new reasons to fight wars and hate people? There is nothing they added more than negatives ie jihads and crusades |
QuinQQ:These bible books had been lying around for centuries before they were compiled into one volume. So at what point did they become the word of God when even the authors can not be clearly identified? Then people are converted to religion by force, by intimidation, by indoctrination and by band wagon effect. Not by reason |
Sonofgod1990:Commercial bank interest is over 25 percent in Nigeria. Fixed deposit rate is like 15 percent. One million dollars is 1.5 billion naira and if you fix it at 15 percent you will take home over 200 million naira every year. The interest on one million dollars for one year in Nigeria is more than enough to live on in Nigeria |
jidesp:Yes any language is easy if you want to learn but the Yoruba have no reason to learn Hausa. They would rather be teaching another language in their schools that is more in use. The Yoruba surpass the Hausa in population in Nigeria |
QuinQQ:That doesn't mean a thing. Are people's idols not working for them? |
The bible is not just one book but a collection of books written over thousands of years with most of the authours' identity unknown. The old testament isn't written in the language of the characters it talks about. It was written thousands of years after their languages went extinct and there are no accounts in any other languages apart from those relatively new languages. Actually not very strange because in a thousand years time, all Yoruba history written may be in English alone When being compiled, some books were removed because the compilers do not like the contents. The Catholic bible, the Ethiopian bible and probably some other Bibles have some books that do not exist in the European bible The bible is full of contradictions. Just type contradictions in the bible inside google Therefore read the Bible as it will give you insights into many things but never be so naive as to think it is the word of God because it was written by mere men and it is full of errors too |
Samantha125:It is an uncivilized and barbaric behavior to lynch people for being illegals in your country |
Samantha125:I once suggested this many years ago but I have changed my mind. There are more Hausa speakers in Nigeria than Yoruba speakers including L1 and L2 speakers but Yoruba people as an ethnic group surpass Hausa people in population in Nigeria. In west Africa, people speaking Yoruba are close to 100 million including L1 and L2. Such a language does not need to shift for any other language on its own land |
I believe they were producing for export or are they selling that much meth in the country? |

That is the philosophy of Osanyin. Without his inputs the two constituencies may have remained financially lame. Oturupon Osa When leaves have been wrapped around soap for long enough, it will become the same as the soap This was the IFA cast for the Berom the indigenous people of Jos North in Nigeria on the day they were wondering what the status of the Jassawa should be. The Jassawa are the descendants of non indigenes, many of whom came from Niger Republic to work for the British at their mines during the colonial era. They were advised to sacrifice They listened and complied The ancestors of the Jassawa left their old homes without looking back and their descendants today are part of the Berom because of that!. gidgiddy:They all have to answer to the people they are working for because those people are not their slaves |
gidgiddy:Nigerians including Easterners told Gowon to renege on the agreement. He can't determine such for the whole country |
gidgiddy:Yes but if Colonel Ojukwu had used that argument, he would have had an upper hand and maybe civilian rule would have been restored for the purpose of state creation but the states would still have been created because the independence constitution allows it. Even if no civil rule, he could have insisted on a referendum and that would have been a set precedent. He did not do all that. He only insisted that no state must be created out of the Eastern region |
Ready2speak:Why did Biafra lose the war? Can Biafra win again after Bonny, Calabar and PH fell to the 3 Marine commando? Any other resistance after that was just to mark time. Biafra's fate was sealed when they drew the west and Midwest into the war and the 3 marine commando set sail for Calabar in response. When you have no industrial capacity and all or most of your ports had fallen to your adversaries, it will not matter much again who is helping you. |
gidgiddy:Why should Ojukwu refuse the creation of a state that was being clamoured for? He could have asked for a referendum instead and be right but he had no right at all to unilaterally say No if the people wanted it. Other states were created in other parts of the country as well Then a coup that did not succeed all over the country would still have inevitably ended in a civil war to conclude the coup unless a kind of truce was reached. If he had agreed to the creation of states, the war may have been avoided |
uKnighted:There are people who speak Yoruboid languages but don't identify with the Yoruba chief among them is the Igala in Kogi state and some groups in Eastern Nigeria. Igalas have ancient Ifes on their land. Up to four or so but their main King the Attah of Igala is not a member of the Yoruba dynasty. It is possible that some Onus in Igala land are descended from ancient Ife royal families but not the Attah. Itsekiri on their part have their leadership descended from that dynasty via Benin and Itsekiri would have been there before the establishment of Benin. They are according to them a mix of Ijebu, Ilaje and Igala The Olukumi in my opinion are from the old Benin city and are presently speaking the old language of Benin city but because the language they speak is not different from Owo's Yoruba dialect in Ondo state, many say they migrated from Owo but Owo and Benin spoke the same Yoruba dialect in the past. If Owo and Itsekiri are not exactly the same then Olukumi and Itsekiri too are not |
Let other people too pen down their accounts. Kudos to General Gowon for putting his pen to paper. Yes the war could have been won by Biafra because onlookers were following and they knew all that led to the war and would be careful to take sides As for the Yoruba and the Midwest, they were pulled into the war when Biafra invaded their lands. They did not join the war. It was brought to them |
AMINDA:Same applies to the Fulani that fought tooth and nail to have another Fulani as President after Buhari both in the APC and in the PDP So why accuse others of what you are guilty of? If Atiku wins, the Fulani have no plans to hand over to any other ethnic nationality after his term unless they fight for it as did Tinubu. If any ethnic nationality can do such in this Nigeria it is actually the Yoruba. So therefore support the breakup of Nigeria so that all groups can develop their lands without encumbrances while adding value to humanity. |
taiwiki:The most intensely worshipped human being is Mohammed but Muslims conveniently miss that fact. How in the world will anyone say Jesus, Buddha or any deity for that matter is worshipped on this Earth more than Mohammed? Mohammed to Muslims is who Allah have to take permission from before telling people anything. Allah is working for Mohammed. So he is not only a deity but more than a deity to Muslims |
