franchasng:
The only thing that will prove to the whole world who is who in Nigeria and who is taking advantage of others and who is dragging others backward is total division of Nigeria, possibly using the 6 geopolitical zones as template and with a referendum for communities wrongly placed in another geopolitical zone away from people they share same/similar culture and heritage with to decide which geopolitical zones they want to belong to.

In the absence of this, complete federalism can also be tried but first making sure all geopolitical zones have equal number of states. And it must be complete restructuring whereby every region controls their Police, resources and regional election.

Third suggestion is for Nigeria to emulate South Africa by having three or four active capital cities:

Abuja
Oyo state
Enugu state
Benue or Plateau state

President/Vice operate from Abuja

Senate President & Deputy operate from Enugu

Chief Justice of Nigeria & Supreme Court Judges operate from Oyo state

Chief of Defense Staff and other Military Chiefs operate from Benue or Plateau
So you think it is fair for SE with maybe 25 million people or less to have the same number of states, senators and reps as the SW with more than double that population and more than double the GDP? The only solution is to break up Nigeria

I was waiting for a response like this.

As my people will say, when you are tired of reacting like a "reactor", you will read the article again S L O W L Y and then realise what was actually said.

The official claimed that Kano State had the most students that scored a credit concurrently in English and Maths, but not once did he state they had the highest success rate.

Simply put, if Bayelsa state sent only 1000 students to do NECO, and all those 1000 achieved credits, they would still come last by the man's limited measure ( I am certain he did it on purpose).

That's why if you look at his "success" chart, the states with the highest populations, Kano, Lagos and Oyo are top 3.

So my southern brother, no need to declare war yet, given his audience, it's clear he gave his figures that way to appease them.

Also, a lot of those Kano students will still be southerners anyway, so you can sheathe your sword cheesy
I am willing to bet that not up to ten percent or even five percent of Kano students are Southerners

The number of students that passed in Lagos,Oyo are way above the students that passed in Anambra,Abia,Ebonyi.
By sheer number, all the SE states are no match for any state in the SW.
The numbers is a kind of informal census. It shows the population of states relative to each other in a way. It may not be totally accurate though

Only Oyo and Lagos have more bank branches and hotels than Osun in the SW. You can check online. The information is there. Rentech has the information Only Anambra surpasses Osun in the SE in number of bank branches. and hotels . It is safe to say Osun has a bigger economy than any state in the west apart from Lagos and Oyo and also is bigger than any state in the east apart from Anambra

PoliticsPension Funds Should Go For Equity! by lawani(op): 11:20am On Sep 26, 2025
When pension funds were established in Nigeria they were mandated to grow by at least five percent per annum

Now due to the value of the naira being eroded, people's life savings have been washed away. I think the biggest customer of the funds is the federal government of Nigeria and the loans they gave out are denominated in naira. These loans have now been devalued

Loans are affected by inflation but equity is not. It is when you are not doing equity that you seek high returns. When it is equity, the investment itself will grow and the fund will be shielded from inflation

What Nigerian pension funds need today is to shift from investments in the capital or loans market to equity. They will then become like the institutional investors in the USA

PoliticsOf What Use Is A Workers' Union? by lawani(op): 10:51am On Sep 26, 2025
In a country where the ministry of internal affairs or home office fixes the minimum wage after calculating what is needed for survival by a person, there will be little relevance for a workers union. If the government always makes sure what is left after taxes are removed from the minimum wage is enough for survival, then workers unionization will not be very necessary
Nigeria has good laws but the enforcement is the problem. We have the contributory pension law for instance and other laws. If all employers are compelled by government to follow these laws then there will be little need for labor unions
Then labor unions are like political parties and some of them even have more financial muscle and better organization than the average political party in Nigeria. Because of this they can add to the quality of nation building going on in any country. People joining hands together have many positives.
Mega churches are also another avenue through which people join hands together. Joining hands together is not a bad thing on the overall

However labor unions should only be allowed to charge membership levies. They should not be allowed to tax production in any form. NURTW collecting money when passenger buses load and oil workers union collecting money when tankers load is illegal PAYE collection and it should cease. Unions should be okay with membership levies alone.

In conclusion if the state governments are properly monitoring corporations within their jurisdictions, there will be little need for labor unions but there is strength in numbers and unionism should not be discouraged.

The most important sector to invest in in Nigeria today is the steel sector. I wonder why no state government is looking in that direction. To invest and lose is more honorable than to not invest at all. There is more than ten billion dollars of revenue per annum to be picked up

If i own a company, I believe staff have a right to unionize. If i have nothing to hide, what am i afraid of.

In my opinion, Dangote is not a good company to work for. Yes my opinion. From what i have heard, Dangote’s pay is usually sub par compared to the industry’s pay.
However unions should only be restricted to levies from workers. They should not be allowed to charge things that are like income tax. Oil unions want to be charging when tankers load
CareerRe: Dangote Refinery Sacks Nigerian Employees For Joining PENGASSAN by lawani(m): 9:58am On Sep 26, 2025
If the Lagos state government makes sure they all pay PAYE and all have pension accounts and etc there will be little need for a union. However there is no big deal in workers paying union levies. It makes the union to have a voice. Money makes you have a voice

you guys information is wrong unless I am reading wrong on guugle..

( Nigeria ) - In 2024, overall Nigerian ports handled 103,336,863 metric tons of cargo..

( Benin Republic ) - The Port of Cotonou handled approximately 9.67 million tons of cargo in 2024

( England ) - In the year ending December 2024, major UK ports handled a total of 422.8 million tonnes of freight..

( Togo ) - Togo's Port of Lomé reported a total cargo throughput of 30.64 million metric tons in 2024
Lome is indeed the biggest now in west Africa. Container traffic is different from cargo. Cargo from Nigeria will be mainly oil. A lot of Nigeria containers does not arrive in Nigerian ports and that will explain why a UK port can have more container traffic than a Nigerian port.. Nigeria can't import less than the UK

My ogar I wonder o.
I see people buy Dangote cement, others buy lafarge or Bua every day here, no one is forced to buy that of Dangote. My question is if Dangote is Monopolistic as people claim all the time, I don't think these other cement producers will even be allowed to produce and sell across the country.

E come be like person no know the meaning of Monopoly again o grin
We can't say it is a monopoly but maybe we can call it a cartel. They borrow huge money at high interest and expect the govt to guarantee that market for them so they can repay their loans. Cement in China is like 65 dollars per tonne India is less Iran is 31 dollars per tonne but Nigeria is around 108 dollars despite that labor is much cheaper in Nigeria we also have the natural resources. Labour is cheaper in Nigeria than in Iran These big companies could have raised money in Nigeria. There are mutual funds in Nigeria that can raise the money.
We Can't call it a monopoly because you can build your own factory
The best way to run a company is to use equity instead of loans. Imagine big US companies using loans instead of equity

God gave you Oil wealth that only about 15% of the countries in the world has, yet you want to asphyxiate Nigerians with more taxes.
The best example of how oil wealth should be used is Norway. They invest everything in a sovereign wealth fund now worth over 1.4 trillion dollars Norway has just five million people and their oil income is comparable to Nigeria of 200 million people

To be an efficient country with free education, universal healthcare and etc you have to pay half of your GDP as taxes. Norway is doing more than half

When you Agbadomudeens jump up to celebrate high generation of revenue by Govt. agencies do you really know what you doing?

You are invariably celebrating extortion, this is the reason prices of goods never come down whenever they go up.

As you celebrate this high revenue generation, do not forget to celebrate the attendant high cost of food, medicines, etc that comes with it.
Customs revenue should not be capitalized on. It should be more of wage tax, corporate tax, property tax and etc. You need a lot of tax revenue to lift any nation.

Southeast deserves seaport. Not Lagos or Ibeto. That's the only way to ease businesses in southeast.

Yes! Southeast deserves seaport! Not Lagos or Ibeto.
Lagos is not the busiest port in west Africa. Lome and Cotonou are far busier and their population is no where near Lagos.
Someone was saying yesterday that the busiest port city in the UK is a city of 30k people
There is already port in Onitsha but seasonal because the river is not dredged
Lagos does not have a monopoly of ports and port is not what drew population to the city. We can say the former status of capital drew population to the city

The western region created Oodua group. What did Lagos create? Nothing. It is a big shame really. The revenue being collected is going down the drain. I used to think they have 500k workers but there is no reason to believe that anymore.

Felixstowe is the busiest port in the UK . It does more than twice the container traffic of the whole of Nigeria

Fact check me

Now the population is about 30000. Many people in the UK have never heard of the town

Lome in Togo. One port does more container traffic than the whole of Nigeria
.
Its population at 2 million is nowhere near Lagos

Your assumption about population has no logical basis

Dangote imported 150000 containers for his refinery all via Lome

I am sure that Dangote is Not the only one bringing stuff via Lome
And maybe more than half of what passes through Lome comes to Nigeria

Ethiopia is landlocked. It has no port for its 100million plus people. Its economy outperforms ours currently

Everything you are saying about population and congestion is just programming. That is what you insist on believing without any basis

If there is congestion at a port it is down to Nigerian factor and corruption not location. You can have a single port servicing Nigeria in a town no one knows. Why is Lome so efficient at turning containers around? They are serious people. They do not appoint people based on federal character
Not only Lome even Cotonou have more traffic than Lagos

The private sector will have to be involved in solving power. To have 50000 MW like South Africa there will need to be an investment of up to 50 billion dollars and we are more than four times the population of South Africa. Therefore we need 200 billion dollars for the same level of power. Even more than and government budget is not more than thirty billion dollars. State governments have been given the go ahead to seek partners and solve the problem but they are taking baby steps. The market is there that will pay for the power but here we are. However people are solving power issues by going off grid. Off grid power now will be much more than grid power
