Ade0001:1998 TOYOTA CAMRY CE/LE/XLE JT2BG22K4W0120187 SEDAN 4 DR 2.2L L4 FI 16V / FRONT WHEEL DRIVE 04/07/2005 New York Motor Vehicle Dept. SALVAGE TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUED The vehicle was issued a salvage title and not a rebuilt title. I don't think the vehicle was fixed here in the states. Please people, if you already own the vehicle, save yourself the headache of finding out it's history except for informational purpose. I think I owe it to fellow Nigerians to give a little education on Salvage and Rebuilt title. First, Salvage/Rebuilt title are not always bad. I read someone earlier that said a salvage title vehicle runs for like 75% less than it's real value. That is a false statement if the vehicle is totally fixed. I drive a vehicle with prior salvage title. The main thing is the person disclosing to you that the vehicle has a salvage title. Morever a vehicle could have been in an accident and not have a salvage title. If the owner of a vehicle decides to pay the cost of fixing their vehicle out of their pocket, it would still have a clean title. So fellow Nigerians, don't go hay-wire about this salvage title thing. Just make sure from now before you buy a Vehicle coming from America you ask the seller if the vehicle was in an accident. There are some vehicles that regardless of them being fixed or not, they cannot be driven here in the states. The DMV issue them some sort of certificate that says the vehicle is never to be road legal. Just shine your eyes well well. Before a vehicle can be issued a Rebuilt title, it must have been fixed and inspected by the State patrol or whichever government safely people are in charge. Also, there is a different between a salvage and a rebuilt title. A SALVAGE TITLE is a title issue by an insurance company to say they are not going to fix the vehicle. That means they'll pay the owner and issue the salvage title. Not that a vehicle does not have to be in major accident. REBUILT TITLE is a title issued to mean the vehicle has been fully fixed an inspected. It is illegal to drive a vehicle with Salvage title but it is legal to drive with a rebuilt title. It just depends on the insurance company's policy. For example, I got into an accident in Sept 2003 with a 2002 Ford Mustang and it was my fault. Well, it cost my insurance company almost $10,000 to fix the vehicle. The policy of my insurance company is that if the repair cost is going to be more than $10,000, they will issue it a Salvage title. But because it wasn't more than that, the vehicle still kept it's clean title but with prior accident. Now to the funny part of it, it wouldn't cost that much if one took it to the body shop to fix. The body shops here extra charge when they know insurance company would be paying. I'll give you another part of the story, I know someone that took his vehicle to the body shop after an accident. He got a quote and the body shop guy gave him a quote based on the thought that insurance company was going to pay. We, the person then got the money from the insurance company, put it in the bank and then went to some other body shop to fix it and he told the guy he was going to pay out of his pocket. With that, he had thousands of dollars left after fixing the vehicle. So what am I trying to say, don't go bananas about the salvage and rebuilt thing. Just make sure the person discloses to you prior accident/flood report and make sure the vehicle was fully fixed with professional inspection. Shikena! |
Wait a minute here maybe I'm just reading too much into this. I don't personally care much about the issue. This is what I care about though - the last time I remember, Soludo does not have the power/right to enact or interprete law. If we want to talk about doing things right, then the Law (if it's totally new) should be debated and passed by the Nigerian Legislatures (Senators and House of Reps i.e the people I call the "Master Thieves" . If the Law is already in the Constitution (which I doubt we have one anyways ) should be interpreted by the Judiciary System headed by the Almighty Nigeria Supreme Court (which I also call the Intimidating Court). Maybe we need to treat the root of injuries than try to put a band-aid on a compound fracture. If we want things to be done right then the leaders need to start doing things the proper way also. Bunch of Hypocrites! |
There you go Brady, take that to the guts. You thought you were going to score more than 17 points right, how about a humble pie from Beli-cheat? I am just loving it. I'm glad they fell at this stage. This is exactly how I want it and it came down like that. They've just been acting a little too arrogant and I'm glad they got knocked off on the biggest stage. Go Giants though I'm a Cowboys fan. |
Ivory Coast is a team to reckon with. I won't want to play those guys. They are just awesome |
Ivvie:Ivvie, My brother, I did not call you ignorant to disrepect you either. I did so because I felt there are/were some things you are unaware of. First, all vehicles made now adays are not as bodily strong as they used to be. Also, the reason for that is because they found out that harder shelled vehicles put more impacts on passengers during accident thus they made them softer so that the passengers would feel less impact. That's why newer vehicles have airbags almost everywhere. You said your first vehicle in Loiusiana was salvage and you could not register it. Well that's because someone messed up the paper work. Whoever fixes a vehicle with a salvage title is the one that is supposed to do the inspection with the DMV. Atleast that's the way it is in most states that I know. Finally, I'll give you tips to buying a with prior salvage: First, you ensure that the person selling the vehicle already has the inspection done but the DMV. That is if the vehicle is already fixed. If the vehicle is not fixed yet, I won't advise you to buy it except you could fix it yourself or you know a professional that could fix it for you. Make sure whoever is going to fix the vehicle checks it first and keeps all the receipts to the parts used. When you go to the DMV, they'll want to see all the receipts to the parts used. Secondly, never buy a vehicle (salvage or not) without a proper inspection. I don't mind spending $150 to get a proper inspection. I mean detailed inspection. There are companies that specialise in doing inspections that would guarantee a vehicle they inspect for 6 months - 1 year. Also, if you're gonig to buy the vehicle from a "dealer", ensure they give you full guarantee on the vehicle for atleast a year. Make sure you read between the lines too. You know how things are here in America, they could word things in such a way that it would come back and bite you. Like I've said earlier, accidents are different from accidents. Stay away from vehicles with front end damage except if they are minor. I know I've typed alot and something(s) probably don't make much sense but if you need detailed/better explanation to some things just let me know. Take care! |
Ivvie, I don't like stating facts when I know that the person I'm trying to educate is not on the same platform of understanding as I am. I mean bro., sincerely ask yourself the mindset you have on this issue. You already have your mind made and there's no problem with that. You probably had some bad experience. If you're ever interested in buying a prior salvage car, I could tell you ways to go about it that it won't put a hole in your pocket. Qimpex did his best to explain things. I know what I know and you know what you know. No problem, we all can't agree in life. We all learn everyday and I have learned from experience. So let it die. Enjoy and stay bless! P.S: Qimpex does this for living and he knows what he's talking about. I don't but I have friends that does this for living and that's how I know what I know. |
Ivvie, Different stroke for different folks. Taxpayers money has nothing to do with insurance companies. No offense but you sound ignorant in your analysis. Plastic with reinforce slabs; I rest my case! |
qimpex:May God bless you. I was just trying to relief some of the people that think salvage always mean "bad". You explained it more in detail than I did. The last thing Nigerians should be worrying about in a car is salvage title as long as the car is functioning perfectly like it should. We have enough to make a car "salvage" in Nigeria anyways. Hope people get a better idea now. Thanks |
Ivvie:Well I'm here to tell you that a car does not have to have a bent frame to be salvage. I'm talking from absolute experience. I mean absolute experience. My cars for the pass 4 years had prior salvage title. Unibody and partly plastic! Maybe you're talking about Saturns. Go on Ebay and take a good look at prior salvage cars. Allstates insurance for example replaces vehicles of a particular age regardless of the extent of it's accident. Don't get me wrong salvage cars are not new cars but ask anyone that truly know about car and they'll tell you that salvage cars are not always "salvage" as they term them. Another thing you have to understand is when body shops give insurance companies quote to fix a vehicle, it is always high compared to what they'll give a private person. Because of the quotes they get, that normally discourages them from fixing. That's why when you go to the body shop before they give you a quote they'll ask you if the insurance company is pay or if you're paying out of your pocket. What has that got to do with a quote? By the way where do you stay? |
Guys you've got to be careful here. This is where instinct and experience takes hold. Just because a car record says salvage doesn't mean it's really total loss. Most insurance companies does not like fixing newer cars or they have policies on newer cars thus they declare it "salvage" because they have to when they sell them in auction. I'll give you guys a perfect example, I have an Acura TL Type S. It was in a very minor accident in California. I mean the right quarter panel was nipped a little bit. A professional body shop guy bought it and he fixed it. After it was fixed, inspection was done and the vehicle was good to go. The price I bought it for was around $6000.00 lesser than what I would have paid for it and I'm driving the vehicle today like new. Absolutely flawless! So don't get too carried away with it. If you think a vehicle you're interested in is comparatively cheap just ask the seller if the vehicle was in an accident or flood. Just because it says it's salvage does not mean it's a piece of junk. |
earthrealm:I only have a key to my car and does that mean it was stolen? It's too easy to get an extra key. I only had one key for my last 2 cars also. @ Topic, You could check the Carfax to see if there's anything on record. There are fool proof ways to check but it might take longer than you expect. If you know someone in the states they could work with a local DMV to see what the deal is. If you need a help with Carfax let me know and just give me the VIN and I'll be able to tell you if I find anything out of the ordinary. Good luck |
My fellow nairalanders, I need some ejumication. Here in the states, different vehicles use different type of gas. For example, Acura TL uses premium while Honda Accord uses regular. You could use premium for Honda Accord if you choose to but you cannot use regular for the TL. Using regular for the TL would mess it's engine up sooner or later. Is it the same in Nigeria. I mean I've never saw anything like that in Naija before I left. People drive BMW, Mazda Millenia, Benz etc in Nigeria which uses premium gas here in the states. Do we have premium gas in Nigeria or do people just use the regular gas in Nigeria? It's been over a year I last visited Naija so I no sabi if things don change. Thanks |
Democrat, can you please contact me. My email addy is fola_duro@yahoo.com. I just want to butt head with you before I make a decision on shipping a car to Nigeria. Thanks |
@ davidylan Absolute truth you've been pointing out bro. All you were doing was answering the questions and giving your opinion on things. If someone can't be matured enough to read and understand all you’ve been writing then I guess they might be from the North, being sentimental, lack common sense or combination of the three. We are not saying the North is the only problem in our country but they just don't seem like they bring anything to the table. It's like in business partnership; if you don't have enough capital to contribute to the business at least you could contribute your labour to compensate for the capital which you could not contribute. In the case of Nigeria, it seems like the Northerners in general (meaning most and not all) take out of the CAPITAL and the LABOUR therefore becoming total liability (or short one). It is totally ludicrous for people to think you're being "tribalistic" when you are stating the fact. I hear people saying pointing fingers does not solve problems. It definitely doesn't in Nigeria because if it was a true democratic country, pointing finger and complaining surely motivates people to act for a change. As far as I am concerned, Nigerians don't want a change because if the general public wants a change, they'll take it by FORCE. That's why people like Ken Saro-Wiwa, Dele Giwa and co die in vain because the rest of the country does not have the desperation in their vain. They say “knowing is half the battle”, we know what our problem is and sure know what the solution is but who would kick against the solution, the same Northerners. |
edundayo:God bless u my brother |
Matthew 7:16: Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Sometimes we get this judgement thing wrong in our head. Just because you called a thief a thief doesn't mean you're judging. It's only wrong when you start condemning them but there's nothing wrong with spoting their wrong doings especially when you do it to help them. You're just comparing their fruits with the fruits stated in Galatians 5. On the other side, how can one proof that Pastor Bakare is falsely prophesying? Only God know's this and one needs to be very careful |
1. First thing first, prophesies are not always meant to come to past. Prophesies were used in the Old Testament to mostly warn the people of Isreal and the Kings. The prophesies only come to pass if they don't change. God does not judge people without warning them. 2. As per Yar Adua being God's choosen president or not, it's very possible. Isn't it God that told Hosea to marry a LovePeddler in the Bible? Why would God tell His prohpet to marry a LovePeddler? God could choose anything or human for the glorification of His name. 3. As per Pastor Bakare being a false prophet; God knows all. Remember what David said in 1 Samuel 24 from vs 5. |

WOW, don't even know what to say. Charge me money to take my money out? Most banks here actually give you the ATM fee back. I really feel for you all. I'll second babyosisi to write my non-Nigeria bad experience. I have a jar that I normally put all my coins. Oneday like that I thought to go pay them into my bank account. Being the nature of my job I have foreign currencies from several countries. I paid the money into my account and later in the week I got a letter from the bank saying they took out some amount from my account because I had some foreign coins. I went to the back to get my foreign coins back atleast they don take the money from my account so make them give me back my coins. The banker told me they threw the coins away. I said what! Most of the coins cost more than a dollar after conversion. I went to talk to the bank manager and she told me they were Canadian coins and I almost slapped her because I've never been to Canada. To cut the long story short, they took the money from my account and threw away my coins too. It's my fault in the first place but it's also there fault for not checking to make sure I did not have any foreign currency before I left the bank. I just advised the bank manager to do things wisely next time and at least give the customer a particular amount of time to come get their money before they trash them. |
I guess if you can't beat them; you join them (after failing to take his team to there first UEFA championship against Barca) ![]() |
TH has been a downfall to Arsenal. The quicker they get rid of him the better. He seems not to perform as expected in Big games. I've watched him over and over lose goals that require easy finishes (atleast easy for him because he's a "world class" striker) in different finals. Relying on him might kill the team. They need to get another good finisher beside him that would give him some good competition in his spot jare. That's just what me think and I'm bound to get attacked for this |

Well, San Antonio made good use of the broom by sweeping Cleveland. It was more like a 1st division top team playing a 2nd division top team. I don't like the Spurs but they earn my due respect. They set the tone from the beginning of the series till the end. Great team |

Abeg my people read this. I got this in my mail today from www.nigeriavillagesquare.com. The site is also trying to write a Protest Note to the Spanish Authorities thereby they need as much people to append their signature. Visit the site for more info. What a sad thing! 11 June 2007 11:21 A Nigerian illegal immigrant died while being deported from Spain with a restraining gag over his mouth, Spanish media reported on Monday. The Iberia jet flying 97 passengers to Nigeria had to turn back to Spain and land in Alicante on Saturday after crew discovered that Osamuyia Aikpitanhi (23) had died, newspaper El Pais said. Police union sources told El Pais Aikpitanhi may have died after swallowing a gag taped over his mouth to prevent him biting extradition officers. Spain, which received more immigrants than any other European country in 2006, has stepped up deportations and entry refusals to 23 000 so far this year. Eye Witness Account: According to reports, the police resorted to beating him away from public view until they succeeded in injecting him with what was later known as a tranquilizer with his mouth being closed with a plastic tape and both hands and legs firmly tied with ropes . They loaded him into the plane covering him with a sack thereby preventing him from passengers view. Mid air when the air plane was already 3 hrs airborne, the pilot announced to the passengers that they had to make an emergency return to spain without actually lething passengers know what was going on. It was the greatest shock of other Nigerians as the saw the red cross of spain trying to revive the already dead nigerian handsome young boy who it was later discovered that he was littered with waste(****) to confirm how he has been struggling between life and death for who knows how many hours? but couldnt be able to shout out as his killers tied his hands and legs with mouth closed and was even hidden from other Nigerians aboard the Iberia plane. |
Should we just get the broom? I feel sorry for Cleveland |
@ fekuti, just because he's 7 footer doesn't mean he knows how to post. i'm not saying it's a good thing that he doesn't know how to post but that's not his game. he is the most unique PF in the NBA. that's why you hear "Nowitzki style of play". It's not orthodox because he dribbles to the rim and shoot threes. No other 7 footer does that bro and the dude did not miss 2 free throws. He even said it at the press conference after the lost game 6 against Golden state that he needs to learn how to post up because he can't drive to the hoop(put the ball on the ground in front of him) with a small defender on him. Ask anyone that knows Dirk what's unique about his game and they'll tell you |
fekuti:@Fekuti How is Nowitzki a choke? We all know his game. He doesn't post and Don Nelson knew that and that's why he defended him small. If you play basketball you'll know that for you to make your jumpers you have to be in the rhythm and the best way of being in the rhythm is getting to the basket. I laughed at D- Wade when he bad mouthed Nowitzki also saying he couldn't make a free throw at the end of game 3 to seal the game. For crying out loud the guy is not an 100% free throw shooter. Nobody is an 100% free throw shooter. Did Wade forget that he missed TWO free throws with seconds left in game six. Free throws that could have put them up by five instead of the 3. Terry did not make the three pointer anyways so he got bailed on that. I'm not saying the guy couldn't have done better but please don't blame it on the guy alone. The team messed up as a whole. It's not like the guy scores 40 points like Kobe or Iverson. The guy is the highest scorer in his team with just a little margin. |
