Your second response which i responded to with a 'Thank you bro' put a rest to the query. So spamming the thread? I don't get that. I'm sorry I don't see any need for this post. Thanks Now I see. I'm really sorry. Please accept my apologies. |

And your passport number on your Application confirmation page is correct, thats okay.Mine is the same. No middle name om my Visa Appointment page. He is a doubting Thomas, let him keep spamming the thread. I clearly answered his question but he wants a useful answer. Best of luck to him |

When was the person's last date of application (check appointment history)? And what new date was the person trying to choose...then by calculation the picture can be clear. I have been asked questions about this but it is not clear yet how to advise people on this new law. |

ayopaul84: Thanks. But have you gone for the interview? I'm just being careful. Don't wanna keave anything to chance. No fear sir, the DS 160 page has a space each for SURNAME and GIVEN NAMES But the visa application page has for just SURNAME and FIRST NAME, so it doesn't contain your middle name. Your DS160 will show all ur names while the visa application page will show just ur surname and first name only. It is no issue at all sir...smiles |

Demonicide: I learnt one will need to upload copy of statement account before the preparation of the i20. How true is this? But yours took a longer time before it got to Nigeria, kilode? I think I want to stop talking about it at this point...but finally, every I-20 requires proof of funds before they can be issued, except in full scholarship cases. Even UIUC requested a balance of $1,700 medical insurance part fees before my I-20 was issued. |

Demonicide: GRE is now imperative now.. But was the admission and i20 very Swift then? It took 4 days to prepare it and get it ready and dey sent via regular mail (4wks) for free |

Demonicide: Hi 007, How were you able to secure admission at Cleveland without a GRE last year? Cos they cherish that stuff like kilode. As at last year, MS Mathematics program at Cleveland State University did not require GRE, no TOEFL and no SOP, just your official transcripts. I don't know about now sha o. I saw it as an easy option then so I quickly jumped at it after my Canadian rejections. Check their website for current requirements. |

MY STORY IN FULL!!! On the back of 5 visa denials (admitted into UBC, Canada and visa denied 3times due to insufficient funds, travel history etc plus Cleveland State University - admitted, no GRE, no funding, denied twice last year) I went to the embassy yesterday. Got there about 5:50am for a 7am appointment. After all the checking in, we got on the queue to be interviewed. Windows 1&2 were not available so we sha couple. A VO was speaking Yoruba to aged applicants, it was really funny . Lots of Babcock students were on the queue, all of dem just collecting white paper like kilode Every interviewee had 2 others lined up behind them. The CGI lady sha put me in between 2 queues wen i got to d front. As I tried going to the lady in window 4 in an attempt to avoid a man from interviewing me based on my previous experiences, the lady dragged me back to the guy in window 6. Na so I look up say God Na mercy I need. After he denied the person right in front of me, he beckoned on me. I was like Jesú Klisti ooooooo. Did you mean me or my ancestors Then the long interview started: VO: Good mrng how are u? Emi: i'm fine thank you sir and you VO: Good, pass me your I-20 and passport Emi: I did VO: *typed For long and finally asked* what school are u attending in the USA Emi: University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign IL VO:What programme Emi: Masters in teaching of mathematics VO: what's your highest level of qualification and what year Emi: BSC Ed maths...2011 VO: So what have you been doing after NYSC Emi: Working as a maths teacher and tutor VO: Did you apply to any other school? Emi: Yes VO: What are their names Emi: UT ARLINGTON, YESHIVA, BGSU VO:HOw many admitted you Emi: All 4 VO: Why UIUC? Emi: UIUC was an easy decision for me because they are very good at maths, the maths programme at UIUC is ranked among the top 20 BEST maths programmes in the USA and also I got a full ride VO: Did u take any tests Emi; Yes I did GRE AND TOEFL VO: What are your scores and let me see ur score sheets Emi: I responded and did as he requested VO: What are the things expected of you as a TA Emi: grading papers, leading small group discussions and stuff VO: Do you have any back up funding plan Emi: Yes, I have been saving up some cash for my dream since a long time and my mum is a strong backup? VO: What does she do Emi: She is into sales and supplies of building materials VO; Are you married? Emi: No VO: Any kids? Emi: Not at all Have you traveled outside Nigeria before Emi: No, I haven't had a reason to travel until now VO: I will be approving your visa...two things, first pick up at the circled location and secondly, don't travel without your I-20 or else you are gonna find ursef in the next flight to Nigeria Emi: I smiled, thanked him and left...I heard everything he said I thought my interview was gonna be short, but no be so. The guy really drilled me, but I was not tensed at all. He had a super friendly ambience around him. I'm sure he picked few questions from previous denials..eg GRE. If you were on this thread last year, you probably read my denial transcripts under my old moniker 'sshola'. After those denials, I sat back and decided to write GRE and TOEFL and then gun for better schools UIUC and UTA. It really paid off big time. I also decided to be a learner, but a smart one like James Bond (007). Hence my name...learner007. I asked very dumb questions on this platform because I planned to ask my way to a visa approval and people really hit at me but I was trying to be cautious this time around, if u no go, u no know. I want to appreciate a lot of people here. For all visa hopefuls, may you find grace in time of need. My dream has finally come through!!! Paulbets, walspring, Lagosismyhome, Femi321, Bigfrancis, Scholastica etc My advice: 1. Dont always follow the path of least resistance, when you do the easy things, life becomes hard but when you do the hard things, things become easy 2.WHATEVER U ARE ASPIRING FOR, PURSUE DILIGENTLY AND DON'T GIVE UP....rest if you must, but DONT GIVE UP!!! |

DammyChrist: Visa approved today at the Lagos Embassy. Time: 6:30a.m
Transcript goes thus:
Me: Good Morning Sir VO: Good morning, pass your documents (I-20 and passport) Me: I did as instructed VO: What are you going for? Me: I am going to study and earn a doctorate degree in Energy Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville VO: Why PhD at this time? Me: During my undergraduate research project, I discovered that the Nigerian society lack the adequate awareness of renewable energy and there hasn’t been cutting edge research going on in this field. The expertise gained from PhD, ESE will help me provide a pervading awareness of renewable energy technologies across all level through outreach and research (VO cuts in…) VO: I mean what will this program do for you? Me: An advanced degree in ESE will provide me with the expertise necessary to establish a research hub here in Nigeria for research, education, outreach and commercialization of renewable energy technologies. I foresee government institution partnering with people with skill set in renewable energy technologies like me for the energy security of the nation. VO: Is it going to be an independent research hub or where will you do it? Me: I plan to return to my alma mater to start up the research hub VO: What’s the name of your school? Me: Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife VO: Do you work there? Me: No, I don’t yet, but I have a slot as a first class graduate from the school VO: So, why University of Tennessee? Me: UTK is the only school that provides me with a unique opportunity of an interdisciplinary PhD program with three core components: Research, Entrepreneurship and Policymaking, unlike a disciplinary PhD in a specific department. It provides an avenue where I can hone entrepreneurial and Policy making skills apart from the research skills at the Bredesen centre for interdisciplinary education. VO: How many schools did you apply to? Me: 4, then I named them: UTK, UKENN UofKansas and WVU VO: It is still unbelievable that other schools don’t offer interdisciplinary program actually Me: They don’t actually. This interdisciplinary program is a unique one, it was instituted by the former governor of Tennessee, Phil Bredesen to support cutting edge research in renewable energy technology. VO: So, who is paying the school fees? Me: I got a full tuition waiver and a distinguished fellowship worth $AB, 000 annually. VO: Are you married? Me: No VO: How many children do you have? Me: None VO: (typing, then Brought out a white paper and circled something on the paper and said) Congrats, pick up your visa at the circled address Me: Thank you sir
My Advice: Please do well to prepare well for the visa interview, please be yourself and don’t cram responses. Just be natural. You will get it. Good luck to you all… Congratsssss. I share grace with you bro. |

Hello house,
I noticed there is no place to indicate that a parent is deceased on the DS160 form. Is it ideal to talk about my late dad during the interview if a question warrants it(even though I rightly filled in his date of birth in the form)? Hope it won't weaken my presentation in anyway...Pls I need proper guidance on this from a kind soul. Thanks |

Maze1: Hello House. Here is my transcript. Visa interview held on the 7th
VO: why are you going to the US Me: to study for my masters degree VO:Which school? Me: University of Oklahoma Did you apply to other schools? Yes I applied to 5 schools - I named them VO: Which course me: Industrial Engineering VO why university of oklahoma? Me: OU is the highest ranked of the schools and they offer a specialisation in computational optimization which is an area am interested in VO: why are you interested in this area? Me: because I have recently been part of projects in my organization that are related to process improvement and suply chain systems optimization. Even though these projects made significant contributions to the company I realised that we could have done even better if we had someone highly skilled in optimization techniques in the team. I wish to fill that skill gap VO: What do you do in (my company)? (I guess he saw my company’s name on my DS 160 form) Me: I work as a (----) in the supply chain division VO: how will you pay for your program? Me: from my savings and with the support of my uncle VO: can I see your bank statement and that of your uncle? Me: here is my bank statement and here is a mutual fund investment from my uncle which he provided for my education VO:What does your uncle do? Me: I told him At this point he examined both documents carefully. Yes and he asked whether I was married and I said no. Also whether I had travelled out of the country before and I said no. Then he said ok that he will put my visa on hold in order to verify my financial documents. He kept my passport and i20 and other forms as well. He brought out a white paper and ticked administrative processing and gave it to me. I asked him what I have to do now and he said I should just sit tight that they will contact me by text message or email I said thank you and carry my things waka My Visa was approved 2 days Later. Thank God Congrats |

Quoran: Thanks. In my case, the system allowed me to proceed without uploading a photo. They simply said I should come along with a passport photo during the interview. I can't edit it again. If I had known, I would have tried to work on the picture before proceeding. The part of the e-mail in the appointment confirmation which talked about uploading a photo before coming for the interview really scarced me. Have u submitted? If no, I would advise you avoid stories that touch because whether u upload successfully or not, you would still be required to bring about 2 hard copies with you. The pessure of interview is enough on its own, one does not need anoda extra pressure from little things like Passport photo. I believe you will be fine Sha... I wish you what I always wish myself, SUCCESS! |
