Both of you are really delusional. You make light of 400 years of slavery and what it does to your DNA. Did you even know that it took three (3) years for the slaves in Texas to get the news that they had been freed by the federal government. Operant conditioning is a powerful tool that was employed against the slaves for 400 years and you think that this can be undone in 50 years? There are places in America, where a black person can not been seen in charge or they risk their lives. Try researching why the Greyhound bus service has to switch black drivers whenever they are going through white towns? If you think the racism thing is overblown, try driving through the suburbs of America and comeback to report your experience.

Well done, Mr History. I'm sure your business was also burnt down in Wilmington. Mumu!
You have only written what every single one of us knows. But you failed to show me how all this automatically makes The American Dream a mirage. In case you are blind from eyes to your fingers, go back, ask someone to help you read and understand my stance. And don't forget to get lost!

Not everybody had the opportunity you had.

Some struggled to get to the USA and did not bring $1000 into this country. They working their way up and you must agree its really been tough for them. I am certain her parents choose that area cos of cheap rent and why she saw another view of America.

In as much as people become very successful in America, it still does not erase the reality that people are also struggling.

I prefer not to throw words back and forth. I never disputed the fact that people struggle everywhere in the world. But my point is about The American dream. Except the two of una no even understand what 'The American dream' means in the first place. I rest!

You really understand the average African American psyche, they are natural failures with very dumb perspectives. Was very happy you mentioned the STEM issue how these mofos avoid STEM thinking they are hurting white people. All their intellectualism revolves around only race and nothing else. Go to nasa you wont see them, go to spacex you wont see them. If you see black there they from Africa. The small girl has had her head turned by those failures

I don see them wella. Na only 3 out of 1000 dey serious.

Everything that girl wrote up there is not a lie, except you want to ignore the truth and choose to attack her. That area she grew up is a poverty and murder enclave. Immigrants are not even in the frontlines of crime committed in that area. Its citizens against citizens.

And its a good write-up to educate people about neighborhoods they should stay away from irrespective of the cheap rent.

Did you follow her quote? Her quote is not only about neighborhood. South side Chicago is a slum, just as places in Detroit, The Bronx, Ijora, Ajegunle.

But make you come open your dirty mouth say American dream is hard for you based on color. She dey mad! Shey you want make I name many of my friends from Mushin, Agbado, Ajegunle, Bariga, Shomolu etc that are working as tech professionals (cyber security, data science, networking, MBA) with McKinsey, Amazon, Google, PWC, JPMorgan? Some are even lecturers.

Gun violence is real, but no where death and poverty no dey. No be that same Ibadan Sunday Igboho dey chase Fulani terrorists up and down? Na small pikin dey worry that girl. In America, plenty bad things dey, including GAY rights. But the only thing wey go stop you na you. Even my Indian and Chinese friends know say naija no dey carry last. That small girl don turn akata.

No be Obama be that for that photo? Mumu pikin! As if she could ever get close to Buhari's car back home. smiley
All the nonsense written up there is typical of a black teenager in Mid Western parts of America. I lived in different parts of Illinois, including Chicago, for 3 years, so I sabi their ways. She has only stayed for 5 years and has allowed those entitled and bitter akata kids destroy her mentality. Shame!
She claimed the American dream hardly exists for minority. Yet she is clawing her way to University of Chicago medical school. If only you sabi the reputation of University of Chicago worldwide, then you would understand that America has helped her dream big and kept her dream intact. It would be easier for a camel to slide through the eye of a needle than for her to get a chance into Uchicago medical prog from Ibadan. I bet you, this girl is already a nightmare to her Nigerian parents. She would have rubbished all of their efforts to get her a better life. Na so these spoilt naija teenagers dey do. Once they get into this place and discover their parents can't touch them, they develop wings and become defiant to all authorities. They see nothing good again, and complain at the slightest thing. Even in Universities, they will drop their medical and tech majors, and start pursuing courses with racial titles. They blame the system for their inadequacies and colorize every single thing. Her type no dey get sense. Yoruba say, "pikin wey dey blame him parents say them no get money. Hin sef don begin hin life journey, make we dey watch." Make una ignore the idiot. American Universities don fund my Masters and my PhD programs. I'm grateful to God. Every resource spent on Japa moves is well worth it. Na who give up, eff up!

Having a girlfriend is the last thing on my mind now but there is this girl that's forcing herself on me.

In the street this girl announced to everyone that she is my girlfriend when I have never asked her out.

If I go out and she sees me, she will hold my hands, hug me and even try to kiss me in presence of people so they will think we are dating.

What happened today made me annoyed, we had our Global prayer walk in RCCG today and when we reached out destination everyone looked for bike to go home. This girl forced herself on the bike I took and sat down in between in front of everyone. She will appear in my house without permission, wash my clothes. Call me I don't know why.

She is fine and okay as a lady o. Infact alot of guys in the street are hailing me for having the best girl in the street but I am not just into her and any girl for now.

please I need advice

Have been admitted for PhD program without fellowship but housing and meal scholarship for two years was attached

can I proceed to the embassy for interview? what is the hope of getting the visa. GRE score 325/340. Quant:168, verbal:157. I have 33 peer reviewed publications.

This is difficult to say, but I will anyway. With your profile, you deserve more than just a meal ticket and a place to stay. You are deserving of an assistantship, which usually includes a full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend. All of this is already a low-paying offer (as a PhD student). Accepting this implies settling for less. If I were you, I would reapply to a better institution that is serious about business and recognizes my value. 33 publications no be beans. Peace!

My advice isn't from an experience perspective but from personal research and pro advices on this platform and others.

First, I think Northeastern University is a better school for MBA. I understand your decision is based on cost which is valid.
But since you are taking the Mpower loan route, I am sure they fund Northeastern MBA also, why not get a better education with high employment prospect.

Let me tell you about a few iceing on cake about Northeastern.
1) you can also get a GA position at Northeastern when you resume. (Although just like every school it's highly competitive and not guaranteed) However, there are a lot more opportunities on campus to make money for graduate students.
2) You could make about 70-80% of your total cost of education while studying through their one-of-kind corporate residency program. You could extend your co-op to up to 12months if you want to make more money.
3) Northeastern has a huge following and partnership with top recruiting companies.
4) Be rest assure you will land a good job with an MBA at Northeastern University of course with hard work.

Secondly, your second offer at Virginia looks good but July is a long wait bro. If I were you, I would tidy up my loan application and start my visa application. No time bro!.

I hope you are not mistaking Northeastern for Northwestern [Kellogg Business School]? Though NE still has it better than VT.

Vo: where were you working before?

Me: I worked with ABC limited

Vo; a forex company?

Hello everyone.
I'm currently in my finals studying Computer Science. I'm going to be applying to grad schools next year (my target is Fall 2023). Based on my research, I discovered that I have to make my profile very competitive inorder to secure fully funded scholarship for masters degree (I don't think going for doctorate degree aligns with my career goals).
I don't have any cordial relationship with my lecturers beyond the classroom aside my project supervisor.

Background Information:
Current CGPA: 4.64
Research Paper: Nil (I'm currently working on one, in addition to my final year project , I plan on publishing both if I'm able to pull it off)
Internship: 2 (3 months and 6 months respectively)
Volunteering:
- volunteer with an NGO

How can I work on having a competitive profile? I have 7 months left to finish my bachelor's degree.

I feel you already have a decent profile.
All you have to do now is meet the admission requirements of the programs and schools that you are interested in. Regarding your lecturers, I'm not sure what amount of cordiality is required to obtain your professors' reference letters, but you should be extremely deliberate in obtaining their endorsements.

Congratulations! I'm not sure you'll get a visa this early, to the best of my knowledge. New student visas (F and M) can be issued up to 120 days before the start of a term of study. However, you will not be permitted to enter the US on your visa more than 30 days prior to the start date printed on your I-20.

Good afternoon all, my wife and I applied for PhDs at Southern

Allow me to add my two cents. First, you didn't specify your resumption semester, but I'll presume it's Fall 2022. The national deadline for acceptance offers is April 15th, so you still have time to consider your options. However, based on what you stated above, I believe your wife has a good possibility of bringing you and your family to America for the following reasons:

1. Because a VO recognizes the value of a strong support system, it is easier to persuade them that a genuine student is traveling with their family for a program that will take at least four years to complete, especially if they are fully funded.

2. Your wife works as a lecturer and you have a business. Those are solid hometies right there.

3. I don't think the VO will be too concerned about money [if he or she has a strong sense of geography] because the cost of living in Carbondale or Edwardsville is modest and your family size is reasonable.

4. If your admission decision does not favor you in any way, you can always reapply once you arrive, and then switch your visa from F2 to F1 without having to travel back and forth.

In summary, you can proceed with her application while you and your child follow her as F2. All the best!
