Please house, if one's passport photograph does not show on the Confirmation page, will that be a problem? The system did reject my passport and simply asked me to come with a new passport photograph alongside my confirmation email for my interview.

I am asking this because a part of the appointment confirmation stated this: "Effective immediately, visa applicants who do not upload their photos when submitting their DS-160 application will be turned away and advised to complete their application by uploading a proper photo. This will usually require the rescheduling of their appointment. The process for uploading photos is easy and is thoroughly explained in our on-line application. Avoid disappointment and delay-upload your photo as part of your visa application!"

I need your help guys!

This is what worked for me, you may do same: After several photo rejections, I went to a photographer and snapped the normal 2inch by 2inch spec which is equivalent to 5cm by 5cm mathematically. Then I asked him to send me a soft copy, though he had to increase the resolution beyond the minimum of 600pixels by 600 pixels ( to around 731pix by 731pix) and this worked perfectly upon upload.

No it does not. Use the DS-160 10 digit code to book your appointment, but you have to make sure it's that form that you are going to stick with to the end to avoid any discrepancieis.

Thank you brother. I so much appreciate

Hi guys, I got a lot from this tread and I know it's only natural to give back. Visa approved on the 25th of April and this is how it went.

VO: (with a smile) Good morning.

Me: Good morning sir.

VO: How are you?

Me: I'm fine thank you? How are you?

VO: I'm fine. Thank you. (I have already passed my passport, sevis receipt and i20 to him by now). So, you're here for a student visa.

Me: Yeah.

VO: Tell me about the program you're going for.

Me: I'm going for a chemistry doctoral program at Florida State University. I'd be taking courses in Molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics... (he motioned for me to stop).

VO: Tell me about your background.

Me: I have a bachelors degree in Chemistry and Masters degree in analytical chemistry. I currently work at a Pharmaceutical firm as a Medical Sales Representative (motioned me to stop. He was typing all along).

VO: So your 2nd degree is from University of Ibadan?

Me: Yes

VO: And you've being working at a pharmaceutical firm since...

Me: February last year (he nodded).

VO: how many other schools did you apply to?

Me: five others.

VO: five in total?

Me: no. Five others aside FSU.

VO: oh... Six in total. Who's paying?

Me: I got a graduate Assistantship (nods and reaches for white paper).

VO: I have approved your visa. Congratulations and have a good day (I didn't here more than this).

Me: Thank you. Have a good day too.

Thanks to everyone in here whose stories have one time or the other inspired hope.

Congratsssss

I hope My post inspires/challenges someone out there.

The summary of this post (TLTR)
WES CGPA: 3.45
GRE: 320, 163Q
TOEFL: 107
TA for 6 months.

Schools applied to:
University of Nebraska (MSc)- Reject
Miami University, Ohio (MSc)- Admitted without funding
University of Tennessee, Knoxville (PhD)- Rejected
University of New Haven (MSc)- Accepted with TA position

Full Gist ( grin Because I enjoyed reading the gist of people like DrHopeful, SirRiddy, MsNas, BigFrancis21, sureb0y, etc.)

I began my grad school journey in 2016, researching schools on thegradcafe.com and MSinUS group on Facebook. My good man, MasterforceII, pointed me in the direction of Nairaland where I met our very own guru, SirRiddy, and bombarded him with questions like "What is the difference between Spring and Fall?"

Fast forward to November 2017, I completed my applications and waited on my professors to help out with LORs. December came and most apps were not complete just because of LOR. I had to eventually use a GA in my school and my employer at work. I actually started about 6 applications during this time but due to obligations at work and some other factors, I couldn't complete it.

In the course of writing my SOPs and CV, I reached out to a host of people on LinkedIn who were all too happy to help. I also contacted our very own happyday here and he gladly helped me vet it. I was so proud of the product and I was certain, to a large extent, that I would snatch a fully funded offer from all the schools I applied to and that my problem would be which to choose. Lol. I remember seeing other schools I could've applied to like UArk, UC Denver, Uni of Utah, All the schools in Dakota, etc. but they either required WES or official transcripts. Before I forget, I also began an application to Georgia Southern Uni but they required an evaluated transcript angry

Middle of February, I received a reject from Nebraska, and then it dawned on me that I was really just an average Joe. I was competing against geniuses from the USA, China, India, Pakistan, and Nigeria, and this realization just weakened me. Crestfallen didn't do justice to my plight, but I promised to move on. I was to choose between writing GRE again while gaining experience as a researcher here in Nigeria to improve my profile or apply to more schools and hope to cop half funding from any school in particular.

I strengthened my resolve and concluded that there was no assurance of a drastic GRE increase because of time, my place of work is in shambles and definitely, research was all about recycling papers and submitting to new journals.

Early March, I stumbled upon someone's transcript on the USA thread. We had a similar profile and he got a scholarship to University of New Haven. We spoke and I realized that it was just a 50% tuition waiver. I was desperate, I was going to source the rest, let them just give me admission.

Late March, Received admission and 50% funding as expected. I was a bit relieved and then I remembered my initial resolve, "no full funding, no traveling." Low-key, I was still hopeful that Tennessee or Miami would eventually come through.

Early April, Miami came through. Admission, no funding. The prof I maintained correspondence with said he'll accept me but I would need to fund myself. LOL.
I began to assess my chances with Tennessee and I saw that I was hanging on a thread abi rope, abeg, how them dey talk am. I met another UNH hopeful who was stoked to hear my profile. He also got 50% scholarship and felt I deserved more than that. He told me I should press for the Provost's scholarship and I did.
I sent a long mail to the department, expressing my inability to fund my studies and my wealth of experience as a TA. Few days later, my friend (he also requested) and I (along with two other people who we didn't know) were asked to be interviewed for the scholarship via skype.

Two days ago, I got the offer. Unfortunately my friend didn't.

I'm extremely grateful for the guys on this thread, reading stories like this way back then used to keep me awake till 2am while I was prepping for GRE. I'm extremely excited for everyone here also. Quoran, you're a legend, sir! Tizentos, Yildiz, smallsuper, Ridsan, tescoman, Temmitarts, everyone!
Scholastica16, I can't express the joy I felt in my heart every time you joined your faith with mine. God bless you!
P.S: Your rejoinders on the USA thread about MBA or no MBA made me laugh my head off! I itch for your Quora, Twitter, Medium, or any other account detail where you share your views. I'll send a PM.

#Fall2018 has been tortuous, a hell of a ride, but worth it still.
The knowledge that this is the beginning is quite funny. Internships, OPTs, H1-B, PhD. More rejections will come, but above all, we shall rise!

I will end with a famous quote which I do not know verbatim and will not check Google for, "Any fool can learn from his mistakes, it takes a wise man to learn from that of others."

Wow!!! Congrats baba... Scholastica will be so happy to see this. He's talked about you. Glory to God on your behalf...a sigh of relief

The decision is actually yours to make since only you knows your future plans and dreams but however consider the following 1) Funding is highly important, never choose an unfunded offer over a funded one and also consider the living expenses in each city. Doesn't really make sense when you are spending all your stipend on living expenses and you dont have a little to save for raining days 2) Do a Phd because you really want to do it and not because you think VO takes PHD more important than MSc even though that your assumption is not true 3) Future plans: If your plan is to stay over in the US after graduation, a Phd might give you more opportunities, time and paths to green card than a masters, note that very few companies are filling for H1B visa now adays and even getting a company to file is not certain that you will get it. Statistics show that this trump era has the highest number of rejected H1B renewal and highest number of RFEs. 4) Having said all that, I don't really know the math ranking of schools but I know UIUC is a top 10 Engineering school and I am a fan of top ranked schools, so if I were you my mind will be tending towards UIUC. All the best

Ok sir. Thank you so much sir, I already started my prep with UIUC, but I always like to get views from experienced folks like you. I believe in the multitude of counsel there is safety. God bless you loads

And Yeshiva University decided to drop an offer into my kitty today:

Ms Data Analytics and Visualisation
$5,000 tuition waiver + $7,000 graduate assistantship position

I really waited on this school so badly cos I fancy the course a great deal, but it's a no brainer choosing where to go now. University of Texas, Arlington Neva get time to decide yet. Thanks be to God Almighty.

My Profile :
Applicant for 2018 fall
Submitting my application by next monrh
Cgpa : 4.64/5.00 BSc (Ed.) Physics Education
2 years of teaching experience
Writing my GRE by next month
Not registering for TOEFL
My fear is changing from Physics Education to MSc Physics.
No Publication in Physics
One publication in Physics Education plus two conference proceedings in Physics Education.

Please I need your advice and suggestion on the schools that can accept me for MSc in Physics based on my profile.

Thank you

From my understanding of BSC (Ed) Physics, your transcripts should bear more of Physics courses than Education courses. And that, is enough to get you admission into about 70% of US schools. There is almost no difference, your physics are the same as other BSC holders, just that yours was tailored towards teaching it. So, you are good to go. You can check schools like UTEP, ETSU, CLEVELAND ST UNI, UTA, MONTANA etc or use:

Greetings to the bosses!

Please, I applied for a Master's Program at UTEP for fall 2018 and,

1) I've been wondering when the admission decision will be made, the wait is killing,

2) I want to ask if anyone has an idea of the timing I.e when they usually roll-out admission decisions,

3) I will also like to know other people in the same boat with me.

Thank you.

Good afternoon Gurus in the house, I will like to ask a question. On my i-20 that was issued by my school, my Dad was my sponsor but now my company is ready to sponsor me. How do I go about it because my company just gave me a letter of prove of sponsorship. If I am been asked who will sponsor me am I to reply with my company or my dad or both of them.

If I said both and I was asked why didn't u filled both on my i-20 what can I say to defend my self please.

IMO, I would say you should stick to your dad since your I-20 bears that and that is the document needed for interview. Another thing is that if I were the VO, I won't be so convinced that a company is ready to part with millions of naira to train someone who will be away for two years with no assurance of coming back. They would rather send you on short trainings abroad and have u come back and infect the system with your new knowlegde. I'm only talking from experience anyways. I might be wrong.

Thanks bro, msinus.com really scared me back then with the profile of such schools (GRE of 330+). But I Sha just did it anyway. I pray that, in your forthcoming visa interview, The Lord will grace every of your utterances. As soon as it gets to your turn, divine grace and favour shall be activated for you. I'm happy for you. You got into UIUC funded, congrats. You have celebrated God and we have celebrated with you.

This question you are asking almost feels like you are gloating and it is d.umb to be honest.

If you do not know the status of UIUC why are you now saying God honored your weak profile?

Ok so if Twoods responds and says they are not top tier you will start calling him bad belle but if he praises it he becomes your friend?

You are looking for validation on NL?
