So ABUJA EMBASSY is now closed till further notice bah? To think of the stress people in the Northern part will have to go through traveling down to Lagos for interview, that has no approval guarantee, is really sad. All will be well soon

Im sorry but my post will be long. I decided to post this after seeing that my AP status changed to issued. First I’ll like to thank God for everything, Sorelee I thank you so so much, words can’t express how grateful I am to you. Ubah1 thank you for encouraging me. Kekenation thank you too. You guys are amazing. I have been to the embassy 7 times , 4 times last year and 3 times this year. I don’t think my last year’s transcripts would be necessary. So here’s my first interview transcript for this year.
Me- Good morning
VO- pass me your I 20 and passport
VO- where are you going to?
Me- North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina for my masters in( VO cuts in)
VO- what are you going for?
Me- My Masters Degree in History
VO- how did you get this assistantship?
Me- The department’s Chair was impressed with my GRE, my transcript, statement of purpose and essay.
VO- so why did you change course and school ?
Me- sorry? I didn’t get that.
VO- the last time you were here you were wanted to go to Arcadia so why change to NCCU?
Me- Arcadia gave me partial scholarship while NCCU gave me the full ride and in NCCU, I get to minor in courses related to Peace and Conflict Resolution.
VO- so who would pay for other expenses
Me- I have family funds
VO-which family?
Me- My Uncle
VO- what does he do?
Me - he works with the Kwara state government, at the Lower Niger River Basin.
VO- where does he live?
Me- Kwara state
She looks at the I 20 for a while then drops it
She asked for bank statement which I gave to her
She stared at it for a while , typed somethings ... In my mind I was just praying , then she asked
VO- why is your Uncle paying
Me- my parents sent his to school so this is more like a more thank you and he has the money
VO- how many siblings do you have ?
Me- 5
VO- which Uncle would be paying for them?
Me- I am the last child
VO - what’s the name of your Uncle
Me- I said his name
Then she picked up the I 20 again .... looked at it again and asked
VO- are you married?
Me- NO I’m not
VO- do you have children?
Me - No I don’t
Then she finally said I’m sorry you are not found eligible at this time.
This was lagos embassy. I was advised to try Abuja embassy and I did. Interview was for June 30th.
VO- Good morning , Pass your I-20
Me- Answered her while passing it.
VO- I see you have been denied in Lagos , why come to Abuja ?
Me- after being denied I informed the school and I was asked to please try again but I checked Lagos embassy and I couldn’t get an early date but I got here in Abuja.
VO- while nodding her head, what are you going to do in United States of America
Me- I’m going for my masters in History in North Carolina Central University
VO- how many schools did you apply to?
Me- 4. University of Wyoming, Texas A&M, North Carolina A&T and NCCU.
VO- I see you have full tuition waver
Me - Ohh yes while opening all my 36
Then she picked up the white paper, in my mind I was saying Ohhh yes, come to Mama... I’m right here baby , then she looked at me my heartbeat increased rapidly.
VO- where is you sister
Me - Confused n lost .... sorry?
VO- I said where is your sister?
Me- she’s in USA on OTP
VO- why isn’t she back? When did she travel? When is her date of birth? When did she travel?
Me- ahhhh I don’t know the answers to all these questions.. we are not so close
VO- wait I’m trying to help you out here
Me - shaking, already disorganized
Then she finally said it ... I’m sorry I won’t be issuing your visa.
Me - why? What’s wrong?
So I got home, with the mind of this is the end , called my sister and explained everything to her . She explained the part I mixed and begged me to go one more time, reluctantly I said ok. Luckily for me, we got July 19th on that same day. Truthfully I wasn’t so hyped about the last interview, I was dressed casually. I got interviewed by this middle aged woman on Ankara. A very nice woman I must add infact the nicest VO I ever came across. So here is the third transcript
Me- Goodmorning
VO- Good morning, you passport and I-20 please
I gave it to her
VO - ohhh NCCU
Me - yeah North Carolina Central University
VO- so who’s sponsoring you?
Me- I have full tuition waver and family support
VO- family support?
Me- yea my uncle.
VO- what does he do?
Me- he works with Kwara state Government at the Lower Niger River Basin
VO- Kwara state?
Me- yea Kwara state.
VO- where is that on the map? While looking at her map
Me- can you see Oyo state? It’s right beside Oyo state.
VO- ohhh wow , I can see it now .
VO- I see you have been denied twice , what has changed about your application?
Me- the last time I came here , i noticed the VO kept asking me questions about my sister that I didn’t know about and she ended up denying me. I went home, called my sister and she explained everything to me.
VO- so explain it to me too
Me- I did . Told her everything
VO- you see the main reason why you have been denied all these while is because of your family history, you sister finished school and she didn’t return.
Me- but she’s still in OTP and that’s my sister not me
VO- i know and that’s why it’s called family history . il do you a favour , il overlook it
Me- thank you so much
VO- wait
Me - in my mind, mo daran kilotun sele bayii
VO- il place you on AP , if we find anything fraudulent about your documents, you will be banned from entering the USA for life.
Me - No wahala , they are all real.
VO- Are you sure? make sure you travel before classes starts or else you will be turned back at the port of entry.
Me - ok ma’am. Thank you . Please can I pick up a tissue
VO - sure please do, take as much as u need .
Me- picked up the tissue and left
I might have forgotten some questions asked sha but this is all I can remember. I have found this thread really helpful. The main thing is be well prepared, be organized and learn from people. Thank you so much once again
Sorelee
Ubah1
Kekenation
Ekebs I really hope they issue yours too soon.
.

At times in life you need more than smartness to succeed, you need GRIT too...Congrats my gee!

To God be the glory! Visa approved on Saturday 21st July. I was interviewed by a White male at window 3. He wasn’t super nice, but wasn’t mean either; he kept looking at his screen and typing for much of the interview. Here’s our conversation:

Me: Good morning
V.O: Good morning

V.O: What course are you going for?
Me: I’m going for my Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.

V.O: Why this course?
Me: I currently hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, and at this time I would love to specialize in one of the sub-divisions of Chemical Engineering, which is Renewable Energy. Particularly, I’ll be working on the production of biofuels from renewable sources such as algae and lingo-cellulosic biomass. With this degree and this specialization in renewable energy, when I return back to Nigeria I can apply for a higher position where I currently work and contribute my quota to improving the energy situation in Nigeria.

V.O: How did you hear about this school?
Me: It was recommended to me by my project supervisor during my final year of undergraduate studies.

V.O: Why this school?
Me: I chose The University of Toledo because there is ongoing research on my area of interest, which is renewable energy like I mentioned earlier.

V.O: How do you plan to pay for this?
Me: In addition to my full tuition scholarship, my uncle will take care of my other needs.

V.O: What does your uncle do?
Me: He works at …...

V.O: What will you do after this course?
Me: I’ll return back to my country and apply for a higher position at my current place of work.

V.O: Do you have a brother in the US?
Me: Yes.

V.O: Is he studying there?
Me: Yes

V.O: Your visa is approved. Pick it up at…….
Me: Thank you!

Kudos to those that have shared their transcripts here, and to those who continuosly answer people’s questions. God bless us all.

Congrats man. When you get to ur dept, look out for my friend, Omodolor Ibeh. He is a doctorate student on the same course and sch. Wish you all the best!

My F1 Visa Transcript @ Lagos US Embassy
The Interview proper went thus:
(I took a little while before I approached him and He was smiling to me here cause of the drama I saw between him and an applicant who he just denied visa, and how the guy refused to go and insisted that the VO should tell him what to do or school to choose or even course to apply for)

VO: Good Morning, how are you?
Me: I am fine Sir thank you, Good Morning and how is work going?
VO: Very fine. Pass me your documents
Me: I passed him the document very slowly
VO: Which school are you going to?
Me: Loyola University Chicago
VO: What Course?
ME: MSc Bioinformatics
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 4 Schools in all. And they are Loyola University Chicago, University of Memphis, Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, and Virginia Commonwealth University at Richmond
VO: How many admitted you?
ME: All 4 schools admitted me.
VO: So why did you choose Loyola
ME: Well, I chose Loyola mainly because of the perfect research fit i have with my supervisor whose work on prediciting gene regulation across diverse population is a specialised extension of my bsc project. Secondly i got full scholarship that covers all my expensis; that is, full tuition scholarship, full health and dental insurance coverage and a very generous stipend.
VO: Tell Me about your BSc Project?
ME: I worked on targetting the 16srRNA, dupA, and ureA genes in H.pylori, and by extension to develop a method that could be used for diagnosis of H.pylori and ulceration in paediatric population ( He Seemed Impressed here with a smile and cut me short)
VO: What year did you graduate?
ME: 2015, from the University of Lagos. I studied Cell Biology and Genetics
VO: I know you did NYSC? What year did you finish the NYSC? And what have you been doing since then?
ME: Yes in 2016. I served in a Village secondary school where i taught chemistry and physics to ss1 to ss3 students. However, after service i stayed back to see my ss3 students through to their waec and neco, and the principal and the village community were very supportive of me. After that, I came back to Lagos and took a Job with a pharmaceutical company as a medical sales rep. However i resigned few months later to ready my applications for my msc academic pursuit, I also continued private tutoring for students.. (Then He cut me short)
VO: Did you write any test?
ME: Yes, I wrote GRE and TOEFL
VO: What are your scores?
ME: Well i wrote GRE twice actually and I got 304 and 306. On TOEFL i got 103. (He Looked very impressed here too, and kept giving me glimmer of smiles)
VO: How much is your stipend? ( He asked is it 1500$ per month?)
ME: No, it's 2000$ per month ( He smiled again, I was also smiling too)
VO: So what will you be doing to receive this stipend?
ME: I will be working as a research assistant for my supervisor. So i will be assisting in carrying out genome sequencing and analysis, and also tutoring undergraduates in the Lab.
VO: Have you travelled out of Nigeria before?
ME: Yes, I have been to University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus for a Summer School on a Commonwealth scholarship. The scholarship was awarded to me because of the essay I wrote on the prospects of transgenic technology in solving world food crisis. (He kept flashing smiles and looking impressed)
VO: So what will you do after your studies?
ME: I will return back to Nigeria to take up lecturing and research position in my school. My department has plan underway to create a bioinformatics unit that will be charged with genomic data analysis, I will also be working and consulting with several research institutes in Nigeria (He cut me short again)
VO: So you do not want to go for PhD after your MSc?
ME: Well, because of the changing nature of the field of bioinformatics as it is relatively new, research questions will also be diverse in the years to come. So i will like to work in order to determine that research question I want to answer before considering PhD.
VO: So you are saying if Loyola gives you fully funded PhD that you will not take it? (He was smiling at me here)
ME: I will like to return back to Nigeria (He cut me short and laughed at me plus smiles)
VO: well it is not bad for you to go on to PhD.
ME: Yeaaaaaaa (Me Smiling too)
VO: Your Visa has been approved. (He cirled the Muri Okunola address for my pick up, Then I smiled and brought my ear closer to hear all he was explaining. And he also had this excited expression on his face as he was instructing me about my I-20)
VO: Remember to have your I-20 on you when you are travelling or else they will send you back at the POE (I laughed here, and he smiled too and advised that I should travel before class starts on 27th August)
ME: Thank you and do have a great day.

Very special thanks to Walspring009 for also assisting in paying my sevis fees.
Thank you very much ProfOjah1234 for all the Ginger and help. And bobority I appreciate.
And Much thanks to Learner007 for the numerous mock interviews you had with me. Boss I appreciate greatly.

While filling the DS-160, what is the best response to the question WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WERE DENIED IN YOUR LAST INTERVIEW?
Also @ the interview proper, how do one respond to this scary question

In the final DS-160 that led to my visa approval, I wrote the line below:

"Based on my personal reflection, I guess I was not able to sufficiently demonstrate to the consular officer that I qualified for the class of visa I had applied for. Hence, I was issued a 214B"

The above response was just the absolute truth in my case. It isn't prescriptive, but can only serve as just a little guide. Be creative about your response. May you find FAVOUR!

Just calm down, US not Nigeria. Everything iwrong with Nigeria but we are fairly lucky cases of Incurable STIs are not rampant. Have you heard of herpes? More than 3million cases happen in the US per year and its not curable. Once you get it, its over. You should read more about it maybe that will guide you. Herpes could be oral or genital, oral could be contacted through just by kissing. Many beautiful ladies with kardashian body have this and its not written on the face. Herpes is not an STI people test just for, they only test for it if you show symtoms. I don't know how old you are but life is not all about sex, you won't die if you don't have sex for now or at least get a loyal girlfriend. Lets even forget STIs, you want child support to ruin you? These girls are desperate and you need to be careful.

Visa denied yesterday 20th June
I was interviewed by the black American woman.
Vo:I can see you are already working, where do you work and As what
Me:Telecommunications and as A relationship manager
Vo:I don't see how the course you are going for is in line with what you are doing[Speech Communications and Rhetoric]
Me:i was actually admitted into professional communication studies but that is the code the school uses for the course
Vo:what was your highest level of education
Me:B.sc Mass communication
Vo:Who is your sponsor's
Me:my mum
Vo:what does she do
Me:into vegetable oil production and distribution
Vo:Married
Me:No
Vo:kids
Me:No
Vo:Engaged
Me:No
Sorry you are not qualified for visa bla bla

After crying I called the school and explained what I went through to them, they sent me a letter addressing the embassy that what I applied for and got admitted into is Professional communication studies and not speech communication and rhetoric as stated on the i20.They also explained that the CIP code that has been approved by indiana higher learning commission is what I have on my i20 but for Sevis purposes the major comes up as Speech and Communications Rhetoric.

I'm really heart broken

I am so sorry about this @chiomlucy. Now that the school has sent you a letter, you are one document stronger to defend your case with your next VO (the black American lady will never interview you again, trust that!). Just go back with more convincing responses and victory shall be yours. Cheers!

FOR ANY NAIRALANDER INTRESTED.
TUITION WAIVER AND $33,000 stipend

I considered this school when I was applying in December but their GRE requirements scared me off. I hope they have reviewed it now sha...interested applicants should ensure they check that too so as not to waste app fee. Just my 2 cents

Good morning everyone. Many thanks to everyone who has made this group quite enlightening. This is my first post here and I think I need more enlightenment.
Visa denied twice at the Lagos consulate

Me: BGSU, UND, WSU
VO: What made you choose Uof L
Me: The university is one of the well ranked public research institutions with cutting edge research capacities. It gives the opportunity to translate research findings into innovative practices through participation in conferences and workshop. I am excited to state that I was offered the opportunity to present one of my research works at the Discourse and Semiotics workshop also.

I was about furthering with my reasons for the choice of the school and he brought the blue stuff out.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated as I planto give it a shot one last time. Thank you all.

I'm just thinking that you should have put your strongest point, full scholarship, forward when asked why the school. You didn't mention it at all. Overall, your highest level is masters, why would you want to waste time and millions repeating what you have 'mastered' already? I will advise you shoot for a PhD in a better ranked school. Truth is, that you were previously denied doesn't mean they hate you, HELL NO! 214B isn't a permanent ban. They only want to see a convincing reason each that you:

1. are a credible student ( GRE, TOEFL, REASONABLE PROGRAMS & SCH ETC)
2. can afford to pay for all incurred expenses (funding and tuition waiver, loan, valid bank statements etc)
3. have the intention to return ( valid and reasonable home ties...)

Just change your profile massively and watch the outcome change automatically...You can do it!
