The Nigeria Senate has set aside Tuesday, April 16, to pass the 2019 appropriation bill.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki made the announcement at plenary on Tuesday, March 2.

He urged the Appropriation panel to submit its report from April 9 to 11, 2019, while calling on relevant sub-committees to submit their reports latest Friday this week.

Saraki, thereafter, adjourned plenary to April 9 to enable all the committees to complete budget defence sessions with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The 2019 Budget of the Ministry of Trade and Investment has been rejected by the Nigeria Senate.

Igbere TV gathered that the rejection followed alleged discovery of an illegal ‘Special Economic Zone’ Company, listed for appropriation when the Minister of Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah appeared for budget defence on Monday.

Findings by Igbere TV showed that the total budget was put at N15.63 billion.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, Senator Sabo Mohammed while referring to item two on page seven of the budget booklet presented by the ministry, said the company was not known to be one of the 17 agencies under the ministry.

According to Mohammed, a document obtained by the committee from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) containing information on how the company was registered, shows that it was a private company.

He, therefore, directed the minister to forward detailed written explanation on how the company got into the appropriation list, its management staff list, staff strength as well as statement of account before consideration of 2019 budget proposal.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday said there are no plans to arrest outgoing governors of Imo, Ogun and Zamfara states over alleged financial misconduct.

This was in response to a media report that the commission was planning to arrest and detain three governors immediately they lose their immunity on May 29.

Igbere TV recalls that a national daily had reported that the EFCC was raising a team to grill three outgoing governors at the end of their tenure.

The newspaper listed Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun) and Abulaziz Yari (Zamfara) as the state governors.

It claimed that ahead of May 29, 2019 handover date to newly elected governors of these states, the commission has set up teams to probe the governors who have been accused of perpetuating acts of corruption.

Reacting, however, the EFCC in a statement made available to Igbere TV by its Acting Spokesman, Tony Orilade, said the report is not true.

The commission said it does not go after anybody, including ex-governors on speculative grounds.

The EFCC, therefore, called on the media to be circumspect and verify their stories before going to press.

“It is instructive to note that the report did not give the composition and terms of reference of the purported teams set up by the EFCC.

“The report is a figment of the imagination of the reporter as everything about the setting of the teams ended with the first paragraph without details of such teams being set up.

“Again, the story is not true, as the EFCC does not go after anybody, including ex-governors on speculative grounds.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the commission only acts after the investigators have done a thorough job on any individual or firm involved in corruption related cases,” the statement read.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is said to have broken into different camps ahead of the inauguration of the incoming ninth assembly, in a bid to enthrone new leadership of both the upper and lower legislative chambers.

The move, Igbere TV learnt, is part of an underground plot to curtail the desperation of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national leader of the party, to install his loyalists Femi Gbajabiamila and Ahmed Lawan as Reps Speaker and Senate President, respectively.

Sources privy to the move told Igbere TV that loyalists of Tinubu now have some other faction being led by the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai to contend with in the build up to the inauguration of the 9th assembly.

Our source disclosed that the faction led by El-Rufai, are being sponsored by some state governors and a number of ministers who are opposed to the planned takeover of the national assembly by Tinubu in preparation for his perceived 2023 presidential contest.

It was gathered that, while the team opposed to Tinubu may not fight the choice of Ahmed Lawan as Senate President, they are already plotting to scuttle the chances of the South-West producing the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The source also revealed that El-Rufai had already met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the weekend, warning him of inevitable consequence of allowing Tinubu to install his loyalists in the National Assembly.

The move by El-Rufai who has also been rumoured to be nurturing a secret agenda of becoming the party's flag bearer in 2023, our source said, is to ensure that Tinubu does not scuttle his plan of becoming president.

It was also learnt that there is a cold war in the camp of the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, who is said to be working in sync with the Tinubu camp.

However, investigation revealed that Oshiomhole has a personal agenda to enthrone a South-South person into the position of Deputy Senate President, a move our source said is threatening to put him in conflict with Tinubu, who he said is secretly plotting to install his wife, Remi into the position.

The Oshiomhole-led APC, Igbere TV gathered, is moving to zone the position of DSP to the South-South on the pretext that the South-West had produced the Vice President.

However, our source said that the Oshiomhole camp is already divided over what he described as the autocratic nature of the party chairman.

While some members of the camp were said to be working towards frustrating his plan, others are pushing for a secret ballot system to elect the new national assembly leadership where no one would monitor whom they vote for.

The newly elected Governor of Adamawa state, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, has promised to implement the new minimum wage of N30,000 when approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.


Fintiri, who emerged the winner on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party made the promise on Friday while speaking with Igbere Tv newsmen in Yola.


He defeated incumbent Governor Muhammadu Bindow of All Progressives Congress and 28 other candidates in the just-concluded supplementary governorship election.


He said, “I will give civil service priority attention and make it more effective.


“As a matter of matter of priority, I will be first to implement it, so that we don’t experience any workers strike,” Fintiri said.


He also assured students that his administration would be committed to resuscitating scholarship scheme, youth empowerment and other programmes to move the state forward.


“We are also going to pay WAEC and NECO fees for students to reduce the burden on parents,” Fintiri said.

A former student of Makerere University Business School, Arthur Basalirwa, posted a screenshot from a WhatsApp chat, dedicated to a one ‘D” and it read;

“Hi D. You will always ask yourself if you had sent me a more meaningful text. These are your last words to me. Goodbye D.”


From the screenshots of the WhatsApp chat he shared, Basalirwa seemed to have undergone a rough breakup with his girlfriend. His friends say that he was planning his marriage, after visiting his fiance’s parents at a traditional Kukyala ceremony.


Hours before that, Basalirwa posted to his Whatsapp a status note saying; “I am sorry but it’s too late, I’m sorry, too much weighing on me I don’t wanna live to see another day.”


However, these cries for help went unnoticed, with only a simple ‘bambi’ as a comment from one of his friends, until hours later when others learnt about his sudden death.


It is however not yet clear how Basalirwa ended his life, but friends have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to him.


Fathil Ali Amutuhaire wrote, “R.I.P Arthur. It has taken me a while to believe he is gone. I wish I had read this sign. I ain’t relenting. This ain’t yielding. A man was publicly beaten and was almost lynched after he allegedly stabbed a girl to death in Owerri, Imo state, but policemen intervened to stop the mob attack, Igbere Tv reports.

The man, who some say is mentally unstable and other say is a 'Yahoo boy' aiming at carrying out money rituals, was detained by members of the community after he allegedly stabbed the youngster to death with a knife at Douglas market in Owerri.

The man was brutally beaten by an angry mob and was almost lynched before security operatives arrived and brought the situation under control.

In a video shared online, some members of the community can be seen carrying tire to set the man on fire, but they couldn't get close to the man as the police officers intervened, Igbere Tv reports.

The state publicity secretary of the party, Comrade Benedict Godson confirmed the abduction to Igbere Tv on Tuesday morning, January 29, that Nwankpa had been kidnapped by unknown persons.


The kidnap of the state APC chairman comes ahead of President Buhari’s planned visit to the state as part of his re-election campaign.

Suspected thieves have been apprehended at the Isi Gate area of Umuahia Abia State following a criminal act of arson on a commercial complex where different goods are sold in wholesale quantities.


Speaking with IgbereTv newsmen on Saturday, the landlord of the shopping complex, Chief Madu Shibata, the Enyi of Ibeku said he received a phone call from his younger sister at about 3am on Saturday, notifying him of a fire incident in the complex.


He said; “She told me my building along Lagos Street by Owerri road was on fire. Before I could get there, men of the fire service were there but unfortunately, their presence was of little value because they came without water. Only residents of the area were able to come to our rescue. Their intervention prevented the fire from encroaching to nearby buildings.

Sadly, nothing was saved from the affected shops. Goods worth millions of Naira burnt to ashes” he said.


Two of the suspected thieves however met their waterloo when the vigilant security men in the area apprehended two of them.


Speaking with Igbere Tv, an eyewitnesses (name withheld) said they confessed to the crime.


"They said they were frustrated by their inability to burgle one of shops and cart away the goods inside. They therefore resolves in ventilating their anger by setting the shop on fire which affected four other shops", he said.

Igbere TV learnt that the suspects were handed over to the police for further investigation.

Daniel Kaye, a 30yr old British hacker who shut down Liberia's internet has been jailed for almost three years. The attacker launched a devastating cyber attack on on Liberian cell phone operator Lonestar in October 2015, which became so powerful they knocked out the west African country's internet the following year, IgbereTv reports.

He was hired by a senior employee at rival operator Cellcom, Britain's National Crime Agency said in a statement although there is no suggestion that Cellcom was aware of the activity.

Kaye was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court in central London to two years and eight months in prison after he pled guilty to the crime. Lonestar spent $600K trying to remedy the attack and lost millions in revenue to the additional impact of customers leaving the network.

Mildred Amadi, a fresh Computer Science graduate of the University of Calabar, Cross River State, died this morning, following a cooking gas explosion which occurred on the 27th of December, 2018.


According to what her cousin told IgbereTv, Mildred, who was meant to go for her NYSC in March, 2019, had gone to braid her hair at a multipurpose hall in Rukpokwu rumuiwechiorlu, Port harcourt, Rivers state.


While there, a boy was said to have turned on a camp gas and stepped out to get a lighter. Upon his return, he was warned against igniting the burner of the camp gas, since so much gas had already escaped.


However, the boy ignored the warnings and told them that nothing would happen. But immediately he ignited it, there was an explosion and Mildred was badly affected.


She was later rushed to Bridgestone Hospital, Rukpokwu, Port Harcourt, where she died this morning.


According to IgbereTv report, Mildred, the only daughter of her mom, never wanted to make her hair but her mom persuaded her to, so that she would look good.

The police have said Senator Dino Melaye would remain in its custody till January 23, based on a 14-day remand warrant it obtained from an FCT High Court on Wednesday, January 9, to that effect, IgbereTv report.


This came as it confirmed that the Senator was yesterday, moved to a medical facility belonging to the Directorate of State Services, DSS, located along Airport Road, Abuja, for further medical attention.


Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement, said the Senator was relocated to the DSS medical facility upon complaint by him that he was not yet medically fit even as a team of police medical personnel confirmed him fit.


The police in the statement, said the Senator was under investigation over offence of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide, committed on 19th July, 2018, when “Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs attacked Police personnel, shot and wounded SGT Danjuma Saliu on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.”


“Senator Dino Melaye is under investigation and currently in Police custody on a fourteen (14) day remand warrant obtained from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on 9th January, 2019, for the offence of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide, committed on 19th July, 2018, when Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs attacked Police personnel, shot and wounded SGT Danjuma Saliu on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State, has been taken to another Government hospital for further medical attention.

“Senator Dino Melaye was taken for medical attention at the Police Clinic, Abuja, after he surrendered himself for arrest on 4th January, 2019.


“The Police medical team at the Police Hospital, Abuja certified that Senator Dino Melaye is well and healthy to stand trial after treating him.


“However, due to the complaint from Senator Dino Melaye that he is not well, the Police Investigation Team has taken him this afternoon to another government hospital, DSS Medical Facility in Abuja for further medical attention.


“The Police Investigation Team obtained a Fourteen (14) day Remand Warrant from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on 9th January, 2019, to keep Senator Dino Melaye in Police Custody for investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against him till 23rd January, 2019.


“It is incorrect as reported in some sections of the media that Senator Dino Melaye was moved by masked armed policemen to an undisclosed location and that his where about is unknown.


“The Police Officer, Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care in the hospital.


“Senator Dino Melaye will be prosecuted along with other suspects on completion of investigation.”

A Nigerian man living in Queensland, Australia has been arrested and charged after allegedly posing as a United States soldier online and forming a romantic relationship with a 34-year-old woman who sent him $370,000 all in the name of love, IgbereTv report.


Cosmos Emeh, 32, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, where it was revealed he had also been accused of trying to get the victim to send him a further $170,000 before officers swooped and arrested him at his Durack home on Thursday.


Mr Emeh, who is in Australia on a student visa, allegedly received the money over the course of three months from the 34-year-old Brisbane woman, who later contacted police and sparked the investigation.


According to his defence lawyer, the accused has been in Australia for two years, has no criminal history, is studying a certificate of urban and environmental planning at Griffith University and already holds a bachelor degree.


He had rented a Durack home with his partner, a permanent citizen, since entering the country.


According to his defence lawyer, Mr Emeh claimed the SIM card he was found with, allegedly associated with the phone number used to ask the victim for money, had only been in his possession since Thursday after it was sent to him.


The court heard Mr Emeh denied knowing the victim prior to Thursday, having any contact with her on the internet, being the instigator of the relationship or knowing he was involved in a scam.


However, Mr Emeh conceded that he may look suspicious in the circumstances, his lawyer said.


Police will allege the woman became involved with Mr Emeh on a social media platform in October 2018 while he was claiming to be a US soldier in Syria.


"Over the course of the following months, the victim was groomed into believing the stories provided by the criminal and formed an online romantic relationship," a police spokesman said, before the man faced court.


"The victim sent over $200,000 to the 'US soldier' via a series of transfers through a money transfer service."


Prior to his court appearance, police issued a public warning after uncovering a "disturbing element" within the alleged scam. They claimed the accused - acting as an agent for the soldier he was allegedly impersonating - travelled to the victim's home to collect another $105,000.


In court, prosecutors alleged Mr Emeh had received a total of $370,000 from the victim.


Detective Superintendent Terry Lawrence of the state crime command’s financial and cyber crime group said the alleged scam was common worldwide.


“The US Army Criminal Investigation Command receives hundreds of complaints a month from people who find themselves involved in an online relationship with someone purporting to be a US soldier," he said.


"Usually the offender's interaction with the victim is all online so this further step of travelling to the victim’s home is certainly something we need the public to hear and be warned of today."


Detective Inspector Vince Byrnes, of the same squad, said these were the first allegations he knew of that a scammer had met with their victim in person to collect money.


"In this case, the disturbing development is a person attending the address ... the nature of this scam makes it different," he said.


"They claimed to be an agent acting on behalf and by prearrangement between the alleged US soldier and the victim."


Inspector Byrnes alleged once the romantic relationship was established, the accused spoke about importing property into Australia.


"It may have been held up in relation to a customs or a revenue issue associated with that and that person didn’t have access to funds," he told reporters.


"The scammer (would ask) 'could you please help me by providing some funds to me to release my property?'
"In this case, there was a backstory with the US military officer that involved the loss of close family members so ... perhaps sympathy and empathy and this is what these scammers do."


Superintendent Lawrence urged those using social media platforms to develop friendships or relationships online to stay alert.


"I know emotions may make that harder but arm yourself with the knowledge that these scams are occurring to everyday members of the community like you," he said.


“Take the time to evaluate the relationship, talk to friends and other loved ones about your new relationship online. We are thankful the victim in this instance took this step."


Mr Emeh appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was remanded in custody awaiting a committal callover in the on February 11.


"I find he is an unacceptable risk of committing further offences and also an unacceptable risk of failing to appear," the magistrate said.


"A false passport has been used, a photocopy of a passport that didn’t exist, was used as part of the ID in relation to it.


"It’s a substantial amount [of money], he has ties to the community, I’m not satisfied that he wouldn’t use other means and could continue, despite any provision put in his bail, to offend."


Investigations are continuing.

The Peoples Democratic Party says it has become a clean and spotless party since 'all its corrupt members have defected to the ruling APC', IgbereTv news reports.


The party said this when it participated at a political stakeholders’ forum organised by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday January 10th.


Kunle Okunola who is a member of the House of Representatives candidate and represented PDP at the dialogue, said the party has no corrupt member at the moment.


“We are the only party that went through democratic selection when we were doing the structural replacement of our hierarchy, including the presidential candidate of our party. A party that does not practice internal democracy cannot help Nigeria out of the problem it has found itself.

Some members of the National Youth Service Corps left many people stunned after they engaged each other in a shouting bout over seniority, IgbereTv report.


The sad incident happened in Ekiti state among the Ekiti State NYSC Dance and Drama CDS group.


It was reported that the 2018 batches A and B corps members were in the habit of insulting their batch C counterparts for not respecting them and usually they resort to verbal attacks to settle their differences.


IgbereTv learnt on Monday, things got out of hand as they engaged themselves in physical battle resulting in some receiving unsolicited slaps.

The Lagos State Police Command has declared a chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Adekunle aka Seigo, wanted over the violence that erupted at the APC governorship rally in Lagos state on Tuesday January 8th, IgbereTv news report.


A statement by the state police spokesman Chike Oti, says Mustapha Seigo, came to the rally with a group of people and were identified at the entrance as supporters of the party.


“However, at the tail end of the event, Seigo and his group for a reason yet to be determined, violently engaged other supporters of the party. In the ensuing melee, one MC Oluomo, another NURTW chieftain, was stabbed and was rushed to EKO Hospital where he is currently recuperating while two other victims of the attack were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for treatment. The crisis was quickly contained by policemen at the venue.” Oti stated


It will be recalled that a few hours before the rally started, the Commissioner of Police Imohimi Edgal held a meeting with the leaders of the NURTW and the Road Transport Employers Association (RTEAN) and other affiliate groups where all the parties agreed to eschew violence before, during and after the electioneering.
“It was therefore surprising that a prominent member of NURTW would attempt to violently disrupt a peaceful political rally. In view of the development, the Command wishes to encourage members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of Mustapha Adekunle popularly known as Seigo to report such at the nearest police station,” he said

IgbereTv learnt that two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The commissioner of police in the state, Imohimin Edgal, who confirmed Jelili's arrest, told IgbereTv newsmen that the Septuagenarian had asked for directions to a place in Lagos from the suspect who instead lured her to a secluded place and raped her.
