Hoodlums have burnt down Abia State Divisional police Headquarters in Abayi, Aba and killed two policemen in the process, Igbere TV reports.

An eye witness told our reporter that the incident took place last night around 2am.

The source said the hoodlums killed a police inspector and a sergeant while injuring many others in the attack.

“They looted the armoury and set everywhere on fire”, the source said.

The Abia State Police Command is yet to comment on the attack.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna,through calls and text messages were unsuccessful as he did not pick his calls and failed to respond to text messages.

“Governor @jidesanwoolu and his Chief of Staff today testing their skills at the newly commissioned Abesan Youth Center in Alimosho LGA this afternoon,” Mr Gawat said.

Popular Islamic cleric Sheik Ahmad Gumi has asked the federal government to grant an unconditional amnesty to bandits and killer herdsmen terrorising the country, Igbere TV reports.

This, according to the cleric is the requirement needed to be met by the government for peace to reign in the country.

Gumi stated this in a brief interview in Minna, Niger State shortly after he met with the gunmen believed to be abductors of staff and students of Government Science College, Kagara.

“The Federal Government should give them blanket amnesty, then if somebody continues, then we will deal with them,” Gumi told journalists in a 1 minute video obtained by Igbere TV.

Recall that the school was attacked on Tuesday night. One student was killed in the process.

Sources said that Gumi met with the armed men on Thursday night between Tegina in Niger State and Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State.

Earlier in the month, the cleric had met with gunmen across forests in Zamfara State, appealing to them to drop their arms.

Nollywood actor Desmond Asuzu is dead, Igbere TV can confirm.

According to information gathered by our correspondent, the actor was said to have slumped and died around 9pm on Tuesday.

His wife was said to have called fellow actor Desmond Elliot to announce the death to him.

Top Nigerian journalist at The Guardian Nigeria, Shaibu Husseini, also took to his Facebook account to confirm the passage of Asuzu.

Until his death, Ernest was said to have been battling with stroke since 2014. In January, 2020 a video of the actor pleading for alms went viral on social media.

In February, the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) announced it was making plans to help Ernest get back on his feet.

President of the guild, Emeka Rollas, said, “Other AGN members have begun to respond to the directives of the association toward assisting Asuzu. Ernest Asuzu is one of us. I have always identified with him since he developed stroke until there was a break in communication between them, but thank God that we have reconnected.”

Ernest Asuzu was also a rapper and producer. He is also known as El Cream and was born in Imo State.

He began his acting career in the 1990s and starred in several movies like ‘Royal War’, ‘Ogidan’, ‘Burning Desire’, ‘Never End’, ‘Broad DayLight’, ‘Last Wedding’, ‘Ugonna’ and ‘Labista’.

Three more Nigerian nationals have been deported from India for illegal stay, Delhi Police said on Monday, January 25, 2021, Igbere TV reports.

According to DCP, Dwarka Police,Santosh Kumr Meena, the Nigerians, who were found living in the country without valid papers, were picked up by the staff of PS Mohan Garden during patrolling duty.

It will be recalled that ten Nigerian nationals were arrested by the police in Dwarka district on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, for not having valid visas and overstaying illegally in India. Six of them have so far been deported.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a newly recruited police constable, David Friday, and a serving soldier, Innocent Victor, for alleged involvement in armed robbery, Igbere TV reports.

Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters on Thursday January 21, the State Police Commissioner, Bolaji Salami, said the police constable is attached to Olofin Police Station in Idanre local government area of the state while the soldier is serving with the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigeria Army, Owena Cantonment, Akure.

The CP said the duo was arrested at Ojadale junction in Idanre where they attacked, robbed and disposed some people of their property and money.

The two suspects were reportedly armed with a jackknife and other dangerous weapons while some items were reportedly stolen from their victims were found on them.

Some of the items recovered from them include N6,000, one Itel phone valued at N8500, 30 litres of petrol and the sum of N125,000.

“He was being tried for that motorcycle theft when he was caught conspiring with a soldier to rob some people with a dagger. We paraded them and the victims identified them," Salami said.

"They attacked and robbed the following people, Akinmodun Akinleye and Adeyeye Sesan of their properties which include cash sum of Six Thousand Naira Only (?6,000.00), one Itel phone valued Eight Thousand Five Hundred Naira Only(?8,500.00), 30 litres of petrol and cash of one hundred and Twenty Five Thousand (N125,000.00)"

"Suspects were subsequently arrested and have made confessional statements to the commission of the crime. They will soon be arraigned in court. Other victims came and identified them. When we are done with our investigation, we will charge them to court.” the Commissioner added.

The soldier, however, denied his involvement in the allegation, saying that he was not caught at the scene of the incident but was held for being on illegal duty.

On 18/1/2021 police operatives attached to B' Division Awka responded to a distress call of robbery incident at Maja Awka and arrested one Chime Raymond Ugwu 'm' aged 27years native of Amachala village, Enugu Ezike Nsuka in Enugu State.Exhibits recovered from the suspect include a cut to size locally made pistol and one cartridge.Suspect was beaten to stupor by the
mob and was taken to police hospital for treatment.

Similarly,on 19/1/2021 at about 9:30pm, police operatives attached to Awada division responded to a distress call of suspected armed robbers and arrested one Ifeanyichukwu Okoye 'm' aged 26years of Owelleaja community.

Suspect and his accomplices presently atlarge allegedly stabbed a middle aged man and snatched his infinix Hot 5 mobile phone at Owelleaja..Exhibit recovered from the suspect include one fabricated rifle.

Also on 19/1/2021 at about 10:pm, police patrol team attached to Isiowulu Division responded to a distress call at Nkpor junction and arrested one Friday Igwe 'm' of Obosi.Exhibits recovered from the suspect includes one live ammunition of 7.65 mm,four(4) different shoulder bags,two handsets and one tricycle with REG NO.WER 304 WC used by the syndicates to perpetrate the crime.

Furthermore, on 15/1/2021 at about 5:45pm,following intelligence report police operatives attached to Ukpor Division arrested one Ogbogor Martins 'm' aged 29years of Ketogwa Obodo Cross Rivers State but resides at Amadin village Ukpor.Exhibits recovered from the suspect includes one Double barrel pump action and three empty magazines of AK 47 rifles.

All cases are under investigation after which suspects would be brought to book.

United States President, Joe Biden put a call through to a Nigerian family to thank them for their support and invite them to the White House, Igbere TV reports.

Josephine, 12, and her father, who are from Ibadan, in Oyo state, spoke to President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

During the 12-minutes call, Biden praised Josephine for her intelligence and even cracked jokes with her. He also spoke to her father and asked where in Nigeria he's from.

Biden thanked them for their support towards having him elected as the 46th US president.

Anambra State first lady Ebelechukwu Obiano has received the coronavirus vaccine in the United States, Igbere TV reports.

Mrs Obiano was seen in a video being administered the vaccine while stating that it is necessary to get it in order to fight and survive the virus.

According to the governor’s wife, it took her daughter a lot of effort to get her booked for the vaccine.

“It took my daughter, Dr. Ogechi Obiano, a lot of effort to get me booked for this vaccine. Thankfully I got it. It took me a lot to get here.

“I had to show them my bar code (which shows the patient’s appointment). They always heighten this,” she said.

The first lady added that she had been trying to get the vaccine for her husband Governor Willie Obiano but to no avail.

“By the way I took that (vaccine) of Moderna, so I will take the second shot on the 13th of February, that’s what I am told.

“So, we are still waiting for 15 minutes to see what the effects will be, but by His grace, there will not be a negative effect,” she said.

An inferno resulting from a suspected power surge on Saturday, Jan 16, destroyed 12 shops at Ijesha area of Surulere in Lagos, Igbere TV reports.

The Acting Head, Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, made the disclosure while responding to inquiries about the incident, which occurred around 6.30pm.

"A distress call was received from 1, Market Road, Ijesha Street, Surulere, at about 18:31hrs today. Isolo and Bolade Fire Stations were promptly detailed to rescue the situation and they completely put out the fire at the incident scene," Adeseye said.

She further explained that on arrival at the location, the firefighters discovered that the 12 shops, which were attached to a residential building, had been severely burnt.

While disclosing that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire, Mrs. Adeseye stated that no injury nor death was recorded and the fire was completely extinguished around 21:03hrs.

She urged Lagosians to remain cautious with the use of electrical gadgets and ensure qualified electrical engineers are engaged to fix faults to forestall such occurrences in future.
