Former justice minister, Abubakar Malami, and spokesman of Buhari 2019 Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo, will on Friday be screened by the Senate following their nominations as ministers.

Also to be screened on Friday is Senator Gbemisola Saraki from Kwara, former deputy governor of Plateau state, Paulen Tallen; former minister of state for health, Osagie Ehanire; and former minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika, Igbere TV reports.

Others are, as announced by Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Goody Jeddy-Agba (Cross River), Muhammdu Dingyadi (Sokoto) and Suleiman Adamu (Jigawa).

So far 24 of the 43 nominees have gone through the ritual which has been criticised for the upper legislative chamber’s ‘bow and go’ policy, Igbere TV reports.

The Senate said it may seat at the weekend to ensure the clearance of all the nominees.

Former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to do its job without what he called media trial.

The anti-graft agency had on Wednesday sealed Rochas Foundation College in Owerri, Imo State capital, Igbere TV reports.

The commission also put East High Primary and Secondary school, Owerri which belongs to Okorocha’s first daughter, Uloma Nwosu, under lock and key.

A store named, All-In Supermarket, said to belong to a member of Okorocha’s family, was also sealed by the EFCC.

In a tweet on Thursday, Okorocha said: “I strongly urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission @officialEFCC to do their jobs and do it within the precepts of the law. What I however do not subscribe to, is a media trial that seeks to malign my image.”

Nigerians are rejoicing over the absence of former sports minister, Solomon Dalung, from President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees’ list, Igbere TV reports.

Buhari passed his ministerial list to the Senate on Monday via executive communication and Dalung was not among the former minister reappointed, Igbere TV reports.

Dalung had boasted that nobody born of a woman can Buhari from re-appointing him in an interview in June.

Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos has informed parties that he has been authorised by fiat to conclude the alleged fraud trial of Senator Orji Kalu, Igbere TV reports.

Kalu has been accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of N7.2billion fraud.

Also included in the charge are Mr Kalu’s former commissioner for finance, Jones Udeogu; and his company, Slok Nigeria Ltd, on an amended 39 count charge of fraud-related offences, Igbere TV reports.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, had first been arraigned on October 31, 2016 on 34-count charges bordering on alleged N3.2 billion fraud.

The charges were amended and increased to 39 counts.

Justice Idris had presided over trial in the suit but was subsequently elevated to the Court of Appeal.

The judge was, despite his elevation, issued a fiat to continue Kalu’s trial but the fiat expired in November 2018.

President of the Appeal Court on July 8 issued a fresh fiat for Justice Idris to return and conclude the trial.

Kalu began his evidence on Monday. The case was adjourned till 26th August and will continue daily.

The judge said the trial would proceed on daily basis until the case ends.

Kalu was alleged to have used his company to retain in the account of a First Inland bank, now FCMB, the sum of N200 million.

The sum is alleged to have formed part of funds illegally derived from the coffers of the Abia State Government.

52 Days After Falling To Name Cabinet, Man Calls Out Buhari Supporter, Other For Owing Him 52k

A Nigerian man on Twitter identified as Feyi Fawehinmi has called out a Buhari supporter identified as Aminu Suleiman Jaji, and a man who claimed not to be a supporter of Buhari simply identified as Femi, for technically owing him the sum of fifty-two thousand Naira each after taking a bet with him (Feyi), Fox Meek reports.


On Tuesday, April 30, Mr. Feyi put out a challenge on his Twitter page that if President Muhammadu Buhari names his cabinet by May 29, he'll pay the sum of one thousand naira to anybody who accepts his challenge.


Mr. Feyi added that if President Buhari failed to name his cabinet for second term in office after May 29, each day, anybody who take up the bet with him would pay him the sum of one thousand naira.


Aminu who happens to be a supporter of the President and Femi, who claimed not to be a supporter also accepted the challenge.


Fox Meek gathers that 52 days after accepting the challenge, both men have refused to pay Mr. Feyi as agreed, making it a sum of fifty-two thousand Naira each, which still increases as long as President Buhari delays his ministerial list.


Feyi while demanding for his money said; “This will also allow me make back the money I donated to Buhari’s campaign in 2015 - one of the most foolish things I’ve ever done in my life.”


On whether the agreement is valid or void, findings by Fox Meek revealed that; “on the 30th day of April 2019, the plaintiff issued a unilateral offer, accepted by the defendant on 1st day of May 2019, bringing into being a wagering contract. The mistake in spelling out the terms of his agreement, does not invalidate the contract.”

Former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has condoled with the families of victims of a building collapse which occurred on Saturday in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Igbere TV reports.

Four workers were reportedly killed in the collapse while scores are said to be trapped in the debris after the three-storey building under construction collapsed.

Mr Murray-Bruce called for restructuring of the nation’s building codes.

“Enough is enough. Time to restructure our building codes as well as implementation of same is now! I condole with families of all who have lots loved ones in this avoidable mishap,” he tweeted on Saturday.

Reports say the building caved in during a downpour on Saturday morning.

Sources said the victims were in the building waiting for the rain to subside to begin work when a section of the building fell.

An unconfirmed number of persons escaped before the fall.

Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has said that the Yoruba people would not keep quiet and watch as they are being killed like chickens, Igbere TV reports.

Gani Adams said this on Thursday on his visit to the leader of Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, over the murder of his daughter, Funke Olakunrin.

Mrs Olakunrin was killed on July 12 along Ore-Sagamu road by an armed gang.


Adams, however, said that the Yoruba would not go to war but would address the issue with the nation’s security apparatus.

His statement came on the same day the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Adewusi, met President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that the South West people do not want war.

“We have the structure of security on the ground, the entire security apparatus. We can no longer allow our people to be killed like chickens. We can’t keep quiet while Yorubas are being killed like fowls.

“But we have to be careful not to fall into their trap. We have to be careful. It is good you see me in circulation to walk with you,” Adams said.

“We don’t want a situation we will walk into their trap because we realise that this ugly incident is being coordinated beyond our own scene.”

He also said that he was aware that the Fulani herdsmen have been infiltrated.

“We realised that there are some forces behind them in three phases. Those who strike in the bush, those who issue statements to back them up and those who are strategists who give instructions to those who strike,” he said.

Governors Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Emeka Ihedioha of Imo, and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna have commiserated with the former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, over the death of his father, Muhammad Makarfi, Igbere TV reports.

The elderly Makarfi died on Tuesday and was buried in his hometown in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna.

In a statement on Wednesday by his chief press secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Mr Okowa commiserated with the family, the people of Makarfi community, and the entire Kaduna State, over the demise of Makarfi.

“We received the news of the demise of your beloved father with shock, but we are consoled by the fact that he lived a life of dedicated service to humanity.

“We share in your sorrow and pain at this period; and we pray that God will grant you the courage to bear the loss, even as we pray for the repose of the soul of the departed.

A witness called by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate at the last presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, stunned all on Tuesday when he said he was seeing for the first time the statement attributed to him, which he adopted as his own, Igbere TV reports.


Bako Umar Katanga, who said he acted as Local Government Polling Agent for the PDP at the election, had, while being led in evidence by Mike Ozekhome (SAN), claimed that he deposed signed the statement before the court’s registry on March 18, 2019.


But, under cross-examination by lawyer to President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Atoyebi (SAN), the witness said he was seeing the statement for the first time, a reaction that got everyone in court laughing.


After the conclusion of Katanga’s testimony, Ozekhome applied for an adjournment, a request the tribunal Chairman, Justice Mohammed Garba granted and adjourned till Thursday for further hearing in the petition.


The petitioners called 13 witnesses on Tuesday, raising the number of witnesses they have called between Monday and today to 19.

Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is the biggest problem of the country, Igbere TV reports.


The monarch said this on Monday at the public presentation of a book by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olusegun Osoba, at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.


The book is titled “Battlelines: Adventures in Journalism and Politics”.


Akiolu had referenced a section of the memoir where Osoba claimed that Obasanjo deceived former governors of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and socio-cultural group, Afenifere.


“The problem we are having in this country is this and I will continue to say it that the number one problem of Nigeria is Obasanjo,” Akiolu said.


The Lagos monarch alleged that Bola Tinubu maintained his relevance in politics because he understood the deceptive nature of Obasanjo.


The book launch was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President Ahmed Lawan; Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Ibrahim Wase.

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has appealed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, to task the South African police to unravel the murder of a Nigerian woman, Elizabeth Ndubuisi-Chukwu, Igbere TV reports.


Mrs Ndubuisi-Chukwu died on June 13 at Kempton Park, Gauteng Province.


She was said to be the Deputy Director-General of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN). She was in South Africa to attend the conference of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO).


She was later found dead in her room at Emperor’s Palace Casino, Hotel and Convention Centre, Johannesburg.


Her death has sparked controversy on social media after a report dated June 27, 2019 and signed by the Director-General of the Department of Health, Republic of South Africa, stated that she died of “unnatural causes consistent with strangulation”.


Friends and family members said on a website set up in her memory that she was murdered and even accused the South African government and the hotel management of not doing enough to bring her alleged killers to justice.


It was alleged that the hotel had failed to provide CCTV footage to the police which would assist in the investigation.


Obiano, in a letter addressed to Mr Mustapha on Sunday, said the South African police might be capitalising on the absence of a foreign minister to treat the case with levity.


He said the reports at his disposal concerning the death of the 53-year-old Anambra indigene suggested that “the South African police are treating this murder as just another Nigerian’s death in their country.”


Obiano added: “It is disheartening that over three weeks after the dastardly act, the South African police have not deemed it necessary to investigate the heinous crime with the seriousness it deserves.”

An Uber driver, Ademola QUadri, and two others have been arrested by men of the Lagos state police command for raising false alarm on car snatching with the intent to cover up their crime, Igbere TV reports.


Bala Elkana, spokesperson of the Lagos state police command in a statement released today Sunday July 7th, said on Monday July 1st, Quadri made a complain at the Igando Police Station, that three armed men snatched his Toyata Corrolla Saloon car with registration no: SMK 732 BR, property of Pinehill Leasing Ltd. The car was leased to him for the purpose of using it for his transportation business.


The Igando Divisional Police Officer, CSP Taiwo Kasumu suspecting something sinister, began investigating the calls Quadri made and text messages he received prior to reporting the theft at the station. Investigations byt the police showed he received a bank alert of N560k on his phone with a follow up message from an anonymous person demanding to have the car since a part payment has been made.


The police confronted Quadri the information available to them and he confessed to selling off the car with the intent of using the money he realised to travel to Canada for greener pastures.


He led detectives to Ijegun area of Ikotun where the purported snatched vehicle was kept pending full payment. The police arrested two other suspects namely, Uche Sunday, 32 years old, the marketer who claimed to have negotiated the purchase of the car online and one other, name withheld, suspected to be an innocent buyer.


Bala said the suspects would be charged to court soon.

Senator Theodore Orji, representing Abia Central senatorial district, has denied collecting pensions from Abia State Government, Igbere TV reports.


Igbere TV recalls that Orji was Abia governor from 2007 to 2015.


The senator in a statement by his media adviser Eddie Onuzuruike, made available to Igbere TV, addressed a report where his name was mentioned among former governors who were still collecting double pay as pensions.


The statement said the publication quoted the Deputy Director of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Kolawole Oluwadare, urging former governors now senators including Orji to return the double pay received by them as pensions.


“This issue was raised some time ago by a national daily and the office of Senator Orji through a press release took time to disclaim this allegation stating clearly that Senator T. A. Orji is not collecting any pension from Abia State Government.


“In the said publication, it was clearly stated that Senator Orji reached the apex of the Civil Service cadre as a Permanent Secretary and knows the implications and dire consequences of collecting pension while being remunerated as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.


“One would have expected that an International NGO that once won the Wole Soyinka award with immense sources of information available to it, would have crosschecked their facts before publishing such defaming information.


“We by this medium are calling on SERAP and Kolawole to retract this information on a Nigerian daily and apologise to Senator T. A. Orji before legal action is instituted against them,” the statement said.

The Federal High Court in Jos has discharged senator, Danjuma Goje, of the corruption charges filed against him.


This came after the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) applied for the withdrawal of the charges on Friday.


Mr Goje was being prosecuted by the anti-graft agency, EFCC, for allegedly mismanaging funds of his home Gombe State when he was the governor there.


Igbere TV recalls how the anti-graft agency withdrew from the matter when Mr Goje agreed to step down for Ahmed Lawan as Senate President.


However, according to reports, an official from the AGF’s office, Pius Akutah, told the court that he has an application to withdraw the charges against Mr Goje on Friday.


“My Lord, we have an application having taken over the case and reviewed the 21 count charges of no submission and by the ruling of this court quashed 19 leaving only two count charges in which they are to enter defence.


“As it is, the Federal Ministry of Justice wishes to withdraw those two charges against the accused persons This action is in line with the power vested on the AGF by virtue of section 128 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 particularly sub section 1 of that section (128).”


“It’s in accordance with the power vested on the AGF by the constitution that we wish to withdraw the charges before your Lordship. This is our humble application and urge your Lordship to grant our application,” the official was quoted as saying.


Mr Goje’s counsel, Adeniyi Akintola, did not oppose the application.


In his ruling, Justice Babatunde Quadri reportedly said pursuant to Section 174(1) particularly sub-section (b) and coupled with Section 108 (2) of 2015, “the application by the AGF to withdraw the charges is hereby granted.”


“The accused persons are hereby discharged,” he said.

Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has halted the creation of over 50 new communities by his predecessor, Rochas Okorocha, Igbere TV reports.


Mr Okorocha had created the new autonomous communities few days to the expiration of his administration.


In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Uche Onyeagucha, the governor said all letters of recognition of new autonomous communities issued by Mr Okorocha’s administration from January 1, 2019 had been cancelled.


He also suspended all kingship coronation ceremonies in the state, saying they must be approved by the governor.


The statement said: “His Excellency, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha, has directed the suspension of all Ezeship coronations in every autonomous community in the state forthwith.


“Any intending coronation must be with the express approval of His Excellency, the Governor of Imo State.


“His Excellency has also suspended the recognition of the last batch of newly created autonomous communities by the previous administration.


“All letters of recognition purportedly issued from the 1st day of January, 2019 are hereby cancelled.”

Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West at the National Assembly, has picked his nomination and expression of interest form to contest the governorship ticket ahead of Kogi elections in November, Igbere TV reports.


Igbere TV learnt that the senator picked his form on Thursday at the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the company of aides.

Igbere TV recall that Mr. Melaye had on June 1 declared his interest to contest the Kogi governorship election scheduled for November 16.

“God does not miss my call,” the boastful senator said as he told people of the state that he is ready to serve them.


Melaye defeated Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assembly election held in March to retain his seat in the Senate.


No fewer than 40 aspirants are said to have indicated interest to contest the governorship election under the platform of the PDP.


Incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello who is seeking re-election is of the APC.

The Osun state Police Command, on Thursday, stated that security has been beefed up in the state to prevent any breakdown of law and order ahead of Friday’s Supreme Court’s judgement on the 2018 Osun governorship election, Igbere TV reports.


The command’s spokesperson, DSP Folashade Odoro, told newsmen that the police was fully prepared for the outcome of the petition.


“Officers have been placed on red alert and are pro-active to prevent any kind of violence or demonstration in the state.


“We will, however, want to urge people of the state to maintain law and order and go about their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation,” she said.


It was reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, had challenged the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, at the Osun 2018 Governorship Election Tribunal.


The tribunal on March 22 declared Adeleke as winner of the election, but the judgement was later overturned by the Appeal Court on May 9.


The case however moved to the Supreme Court for final judgement and the court is set to rule on the matter on July 5.

Pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Worldwide, Reverend Emmanuel Oshoffa, the Board of Trustees and the Pastor in Council have condemned a video production titled ‘Juba F’Olorun’ produced by Funmi Bank Anthony about the church, Igbere TV reports.


The video production, which has been shared on social media, shows scenes where people clothed in the Sutana (the church’s garment) shot within a CCC parish, engaging in ‘lurid dance steps, smoking Marijuana, with reckless display of violence and use of very foul language.’


In a statement on Thursday by the church’s spokesman, Kayode Ajala, the CCC said the scenes in the video do not represent what it stands for.


“We are a Bible believing church that operates under the divine direction of the Holy Spirit. Our rules and tenets forbid our faithfuls from smoking cigarettes, Marijuana, use of hard drugs and consumption of any type of alcoholic beverages.


“Bona fide members of our church must not engage in any form of immorality. Fornication, adultery, night crawling and ills like fighting and back biting are an anathema.


“The damage done to the image of the Celestial Church of Christ by this totally condemnable video production is indeed enormous. It is true that as a church of God, we are slow to tow the path of seeking redress in a court of law but even at that, we cannot continue to fold our arms while the image of our church is continuously battered by others. This is not the first time that this is happening. We say enough is enough!” the statement said.


The church said it had taken the following steps – summoned the pastoral head of the parish where the video was shot; petitioned the Director General of the Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board over the video.


The statement said the church had also filed a complaint letter to the leadership of all associations governing the production and marketing of local movies across genres, including the producer of the ‘offensive’ video production with a demand of an apology to be published in at least two national newspapers.

A 51-year-old suspect, Jibrin Ibrahim, and 14 others were on Wednesday paraded by the Joint Investigative Panel comprising of representatives of the Defence Headquarters, the police and the Department of State Services, over the murder of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, Igbere TV reports.


Two AK-47 rifles, two locally-made guns and other weapons were recovered from the suspects who confessed to collecting N2m ransom before releasing Badeh’s friend Joseph Okpetu, who was in the same vehicle during the attack. It was learnt that the sim card used in negotiating Okpetu's release, belonged to 51-year-old Jibrin, Igbere TV reports.


Usman, also known as Chiroma, said to be the gang leader who spoke to newsmen during the parade, revealed that he alongside 6 others attacked Badeh, whom they assumed to be a wealthy man and not a retired military officer. Recall that it was reported that Alex Badeh was shot dead by gunmen on December 18, 2018, while returning from his farm along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway in Nasarawa State.


Confessing to the attack, Usman said;


“It was a Friday and I came to the Gitata Market; I was the one who brought the job to the gang. I am a taxi driver. So, while I was driving to Panda village, in Nasarawa State, one Alhaji Maube Gani told me that there was one wealthy man, who owned a farm in that area and that we could make money from him. I told him I had never attacked any person in my life, but he said I should not worry.


“Then later on December 18, I drove my car out and Alhaji called me that the man had come to his farm as usual and that we should come to attack him. So, I called the other members and we met Alhaji in the Gitata area.


“At that stage of the operation, I did not know Badeh’s identity; none of us knew that the man was a military officer. There were seven of us, who participated in the operation. We just got to the road, shot the man and took away his friend.”


Also speaking to newsmen, Chairman of the Joint Investigation Committee, Maj. Gen. Bamidele Shafa, who stated that effort to arrest other members of the gang has intensified, disclosed that 20 suspects had been identified out of whom 15 had been arrested.


Shafa said, “After thorough investigation, the panel made the following findings; one, the attack and killing of ACM Alex Badeh was criminal and did not have any political undertone. Two, 20 persons were involved in the crime, out of which 15 have been arrested.


“The suspects in custody confessed to their direct involvement in the crime. They employed automatic weapons and locally-made guns in the killing of the air chief marshal. This was buttressed by the result of the autopsy and weapons recovered from the residences of the suspects.The suspects will be handed over to the appropriate agency for investigation and prosecution.”

Victor Oluwadamilere, a former aide of ex-minister of communication, Adebayo Shittu, has dragged him before the National Industrial Court, Abuja over alleged non-payment of salaries, Igbere TV reports.


Mr Oluwadamilere, who was Shittu’s special assistant on media, wants the court to compel the defendant to pay him N11.7 million accumulated as salaries for 28 months.


The plaintiff also wants the court to declare that the non-payment of his arrears of salaries was wrongful, illegal and unconstitutional.


Oluwadamilere also prays the court to order Shittu to pay him N50 million as aggravated and general damages among other claims after his appointment was terminated on March 14, 2018.


He alleged that the defendant only paid him three times out of the 28 months he worked for him.


He said Shittu paid him N500, 000 twice, N1.3 million once, totalling N2.3 million.


The former aide said the defendant put him on a monthly N100, 000 salary as against the approved Federal Government rate of N500, 000 for SA to Honourable Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.


At the resumed hearing on Wednesday before Justice Benedict Kanyip, the plaintiff’s counsel, Adewale Lawal, informed the court that the matter was for mention.


Defence counsel, Oluwafemi Davies-Awe, confirmed that though he had been served with all relevant court processes, he needed time to respond to the claimants’ averments.


The judge adjourned the matter until November 13 for hearing.

Protesters led by rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, on Wednesday stormed the headquarters of the police in Abuja to petition the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, over the assault of a woman by Senator Elisha Abbo, Igbere TV reports.


A video of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Adamawa State hitting the lady was shared online on Tuesday.


In the video, Abbo, 41, on May 11 assaulted a woman, said to be a nursing mother after she defended an attendant at a intimacy gadget shop who was about to be arrested on claims that she had insulted the lawmaker.


The senator was said to have returned to the store to warn against releasing the footage of the incident.


Since the case was reported on May 14 at the Maitama Area Command Headquarters on Nile Street, the police have been reportedly negligent on the matter.


Mr Adeyanju tweeted that the IGP assured that an investigation would begin immediately.


“We have done the needful. Thank you Nigerians for coming out. The IG of @PoliceNG has assured us an investigation will commence immediately,” he said.

Igbere TV learnt that the Senator representing Anambra central, Uche Ekwunife, the chairman of Capital Oil and Gas, who emerged the first elected senator for the Young Progresives Party (YPP) representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Ifeanyi Uba and the senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Teslim Folarin among others were also present.
