A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Ndutimi Alaibe, has denied sending fake bank alerts to PDP delegates to buy their votes ahead of the party’s primary on Tuesday. In a statement sent to Igbere TV on Monday, secretary of the Alaibe Campaign Organisation, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, described the allegation as ‘criminal’. Brisibe said the chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa, Cleopas Moses, had in a statement on Monday made the allegation against Alaibe and another aspirant, Kenebi Okoko. “As a campaign organisation, we find it difficult to believe that this extremely criminal allegation is coming from the chairman of PDP in Bayelsa State,” Brisibe began. “We assume that there is a mistake somewhere. How would any reasonable person wake up to utter this kind of evil allegation against responsible fellow human beings? “While we allow our lawyers to study the legal implications of this obviously irresponsible and careless allegation, we need to state that there is no truth in it whatsoever. The burden is on those making the allegation to provide evidence when the time comes. “We believe this is dirty politics taken too far. Someone does not need to go to this extreme just to win an election. This allegation is an equivalent of bloodshed for the sake of politics and must not be ignored by those whose responsibility it is to ensure that it doesn’t happen.” Brisibe also said that the allegation would not be ignored. “He has a name to protect and will not allow anybody to soil that name. The law must take its course. This is a deliberate falsehood that must be challenged,” he said. Alaibe had on Saturday said there was no rift between him and Governor Seriake Dickson. It is alleged that the governor is not in support of Alaibe’s governorship ambition. http://igberetvnews.com/955520/bayelsa-alaibe-speaks-on-sending-fake-bank-alerts-to-pdp-delegates-to-buy-votes/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

Human Rights Activist, Deji Adeyanju has described the plan by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to attack President Muhammadu Buhari in Japan as senseless, Igbere TV reports. According to him, Kanu has plan to ruin the Igbo race adding that he is also a businessman looking for where to make money, Igbere TV reports. Recall that on Friday August 23, Mr. Kanu had called on all the members of the IPOB to disgrace and arrest President Buhari when he arrived in Japan on Sunday, August 25, for the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development. Igbere TV had reported that Mr. Kanu in a statement had ordered IPOB members in Japan to arrest the president and hand him over to Japanese authorities to answer for the crimes he allegedly committed between 2015 and 2019. Mr. Deji who was angered by Kanu’s directives said; “How can any reasonable person openly call for an attack on the president of a nation on foreign soil? Even if you don’t like Buhari or what he represents, at least we must respect the fact that he is the president of our country.” Read Deji Adeyanju's full statement below; Permit me to start with the words of Marthin Luther King: “In spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace. We adopt the means of nonviolence because our end is a community at peace with itself. We will try to persuade with our words, but if our words fail, we will try to persuade with our acts.” You have heard me say before and I will say again, Nnamdi Kanu is only a business man looking for where to collect money. He is not driven by ideology or love for the igbos. After attacking his fellow Igbo brother, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who played a significant role in ensuring his release from Kuje Prison in Germany, Kanu the businessman has called on some of his miscreants/supporters to attack President Buhari as he visits Japan. Those who were doubting me when I said Kanu is being sponsored by some element in the North can now see the clear handwriting on the wall. How can any reasonable person openly call for an attack on the president of a nation on foreign soil? Even if you don’t like Buhari or what he represents, at least we must respect the fact that he is the president of our country.” Do you think Kanu does not know the danger of attacking Buhari in Japan. He knows but those sponsoring him are doing everything humanly possible to ensure no Igbo man ever rule Nigeria and also put peace loving igbos in the North in danger by setting them up for reprisal attacks by Buhari’s fanatical supporters. The other plot is also to use Kanu to divide igbos by creating an atmosphere of war. The plan of the sponsors of Kanu is to provoke the political leaders in the South East, i.e -governors and other elected officials to the point that they will have no other option but to orchestrate attacks against Kanu and his supporters in retaliation. Kanu only worships money and will not stop the verbal attacks on Igbo leaders in as much as his paymasters continue to send him alerts.” http://igberetvnews.com/932315/order-to-attack-buhari-nnamdi-kanu-and-ipob-are-senseless-says-deji-adeyanju/

A Chief Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has ordered the remand of a suspected land grabbing kingpin, Kamorudeen Lamina, popularly called ‘Sir K Oluwo’. Lamina, a socialite known for throwing lavish parties in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, is accused of forcefully taking over lands from their owners, Igbere TV reports. He was arraigned on four-count charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, murder, unlawful possession of firearms and armed robbery. According to the charge, Oluwo conspired with some persons still at large, on or before March 9, 2011, to rob Saka Gbemisola, Kareem Bello and others of the sum of N180,000 among other items at Ologbon Odukosi village in the Sagamu Magisterial District. Other items listed are one Astor Electronic Teoolita with its tripod valued at N30,000, a mobile phone, clothes, shoes, wristwatches, and identity cards. The charge says Lamina violated section 1(2)(a) of the robbery and firearms (special provision) Act Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004 with the wielding of guns, axes, cutlasses, and knives. He is accused of killing three men – Akeem Adegbaru, Fatai Adeleye and Adebisi Adelakun. Defence counsel, Bayo Omotuburuwa, had prayed the court not to grant the ex-parte application which was placed before the court by the prosecuting counsel, Adeola Adeleye. Omotuburuwa also prayed the court to grant his client bail, quoting Section 307 of the Administration of Criminal Justice (ACJ) to support his argument. Chief magistrate B.J Ojikutu refused the defendant bail and ordered that Oluwo be remanded in prison, pending the Attorney-General’s legal advice. The case was adjourned till September 26. Yinka Quadri, Olaiya Igwe, Muka Ray and other Yoruba actors were at Lamina’s 50th birthday party in Odoguyan, Ikorodu last year. http://igberetvnews.com/923285/popular-socialite-remanded-in-prison-over-robbery-murder/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied planning to plant foreign currencies at the home of former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode. The anti-graft agency’s operatives stormed Mr Ambode’s residence in his hometown of Epe on Tuesday morning following the freezing of the sum of N9.9 billion allegedly linked to him, Igbere TV reports. They were soon greeted by angry protesters who prevented them from coming out of their vehicles. In a statement on Tuesday by EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, the commission said it obtained a valid warrant to search Ambode’s residence. It said that its operatives were attacked and vehicle vandalised. “The Commission had obtained valid warrant to conduct search on Ambode’s residences in Park View, Ikoyi and country home in Epe, as part of ongoing investigation of alleged malfeasance,” the statement began. “However, the Commission’s operatives were attacked and prevented from executing the search warrant in Epe by irate youths who injured three officers and damaged EFCC official vehicle. “The attack was totally unprovoked as the Commission’s operatives were civic and did not molest anybody. “The Commission therefore frowns at the attempt to manipulate the video of the search to create the wrong impression that officers of the agency molested residents at the Epe home of the governor. “It is also not true that the search, was an attempt to plant foreign currencies in the home of the former governor.” Ambode has called for calm after the botched search at his Epe residence. http://igberetvnews.com/917820/efcc-denies-planning-to-plant-foreign-currencies-at-ambodes-residence/

Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba, has pressed charges before the State High Court, Lokoja against plans of his impeachment by the House of Assembly. Mr Achuba is challenging the impeachment notice served on him by the assembly on grounds that it was served out of time and marred with irregularities, Igbere TV reports. The case is set for hearing on the date to be announced soon by the court, Igbere TV has learnt. Majority leader Abdullahi Bello (Ajaokuta, APC) read the impeachment notice before the house on August 7, saying it was signed by 21 out of the 25 lawmakers. The legislators hinged the petition on three grounds of criminal indulgence, financial misappropriation and non-performance. They also claimed that the allegations, actions and utterances of the deputy governor amounted to gross misconduct. Achuba had accused the governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, of being after his life. He alleged that Bello had sent gunmen to kill him, adding that the governor had withheld the payment of his allowances amounting to N800 million. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi had suspended Achuba for alleged anti-party activities before, during and after the 2019 general elections. http://igberetvnews.com/915379/kogi-deputy-governor-simon-achuba-sues-assembly-over-impeachment-plan/ L

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the name of Uche Nwosu as a governorship candidate in the March 9 election held in Imo State. Nwosu is the son-in-law of former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha. Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled on Monday that Nwosu’s candidacy be voided on the grounds that he was nominated by two political parties – the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Action Alliance (AA) – in violation of section 37 of the Electoral Act, Igbere TV reports. The Action People’s Party and its Deputy National Chairman, Uche Nnadi, had filed the suit at the court. Nwosu is, however, still challenging the results of the election which saw Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerge winner at the state’s Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. Justice Ekwo ruled that Nwosu affirmed to be the APC’s governorship candidate in his statement on oath sworn before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. The judge similarly declared that Nwosu “has not been validly nominated by the 3rd defendant (AA) as its governorship candidate for the Imo State governorship election having been made at the pendency of the order of Justice Valentine Ashi of the Abuja High Court recognising the 2nd defendant as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Imo State 2019 governorship election.” The judge also dismissed Nwosu’s preliminary objection, picking holes in the defence he and the AA separately filed against the substantive suit. Justice Ekwo, dismissing the preliminary objection, ruled that the provisions of section 285(9) of the Constitution which stipulates that a pre-election case must be filed within 14 days of the occurrence of the event being complained of, was not applicable to the case. http://igberetvnews.com/912334/just-in-court-voids-uche-nwosus-governorship-candidature-in-imo/

Chairman of Delta State Civil Service Commission, Nkem Okwuofu, has said that the state would soon ban civil servants who are nursing mothers from bringing babies to their offices. Okwuofu said this on Thursday during a routine inspection exercise at the Directorate of Sustainable Development Goals in Asaba, Igbere TV reports. She said a memo bearing the directive had been sent to all departments of government in the state. Okwuofu, however, said the commission would provide creche facilities within ministries to enable nursing mothers to take care of their babies. She said the facilities would provide a conducive environment for mothers to breastfeed their babies and return to work. “Apart from the health implication of this practice, it must be known that this is against the rules and regulations of the state civil service,” she said. Okwuofu said bringing infants to the office would expose the children to infections. She also told workers that the commission had completed the review of the 1978 civil service rules. Okwuofu said: “The approval of the state governor has already been secured. The document will be made available to all civil servants soon. “The commission has also successfully established its own official website and database. This contains the retirement dates of civil servants in the state.” Source; http://igberetvnews.com/903846/just-in-delta-moves-to-stop-mothers-from-bringing-babies-to-office/

President Muhammadu Buhari says the directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria to stop providing foreign exchange for food importation was to improve agricultural production and attain full food security. Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman in a statement, said Buhari stated this when he hosted All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to Eid-el-Kabir lunch at his country home in Daura, Katsina state on Tuesday. According to the president, the foreign reserve will be used strictly for diversification of the economy and not for encouraging more dependence on foreign food. “Don’t give a cent to anybody to import food into the country,’’ he said. The President noted that some states like Kebbi, Ogun, Lagos, Jigawa, Ebonyi and Kano had taken advantage of the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture with huge returns in rice farming. He, therefore, urged more states to plug into the ongoing revolution to feed the nation. “We have achieved food security, and for physical security we are not doing badly,’’ he said. Buhari said he was particularly delighted that young Nigerians, including graduates, had started exploring agric-business and entrepreneurship, with many posting testimonies of good returns on their investments, Igbere TV reports. He said the incoming ministers would be guided to meet the targets of the APC-led government for the people. The president added that regular monitoring of their performances and scaling up of targets would be done by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Buhari gave the assurance of attending the Presidential Policy Retreat organized for the ministers by the OSFG. He insisted on compliance with laid down targets on key sectors of the economy that would directly impact on the livelihood of Nigerians. In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, said the President’s sense of justice and fairness had been inspiring to governors. He said the challenges faced by states “were enormous”, but the governors had remained undaunted, assuring the President of strong support and “the very best effort” to overcome the obstacles. The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, appreciated the President for the unique leadership style of maintaining a healthy relationship with governors on individual and collective basis. He stressed that they had been “energized’’ to do more in their states. The governor commended the President for making bold and courageous efforts to reposition the economy for majority of Nigerians through inclusive policies. “The country is more secure than in 2015, and the country is more prosperous than in 2015 because you are working for the majority of the people,” he added. Bagudu said the party had been repositioned, after the 2019 elections, to work for the benefit of the majority of Nigerians, noting that “there will two elections this year and we need to work towards winning the two states.” Source; http://igberetvnews.com/900027/just-in-why-i-ordered-cbn-to-stop-forex-for-food-import-president-buhari/ L

Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Mike Okonkwo, has alleged that traditional rulers know the kidnappers in their communities. Okonkwo said this on Sunday in an interview with journalists after his sermon at the 7th edition of the Leading Edge Conference and Business Summit organised by TREM (Vision House) in Utako, Abuja. The preacher said monarchs should be held responsible for rising spate of kidnapping, Igbere TV reports. “The people perpetrating kidnapping and other forms of violence did not drop from the sky; they came from somewhere. I am in charge of a place and the traditional ruler of a town and such incidents like kidnapping happen in my town. You mean I cannot do something to find out where they are coming from? Where are they and where are they hibernating? “They shoot people in the highway and run back into the bush in a state where somebody is a governor. The former Lagos State governor also prayed for the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that the APC-led central government has set the country on an irreversible path towards a broad and inclusive political, social and economic development for the benefit of all Nigerians, Igbere TV reports. Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has ordered a general verification and audit of staff of all the 18 local government areas in the state. The governor’s order was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Jimoh Ijegbai. The order follows the discovery of ghost workers collecting salaries from Estako West Local Government Area. The statement said about N46 million have altogether been collected as salaries unaccounted for at Estako West LGA. Ijegbai said the chairman of Etsako West LGA, Yakubu Musa, has been directed to step down for investigation into the payroll fraud. He explained that the fraud was uncovered after Obaseki frowned at the high wage bill of the local council which amounted to N66, 652,527.52 monthly, whereas Oredo Local Government with more staff strength was paying N59, 859,964.29 to its staff. The statement said: “It was later discovered that the Authority of Etsako West Local Government entrusted the council’s payroll to a Grade Level Three (GL-03) Officer who inserted two fictitious names on the payroll through whom the Local Government was defrauded of the sum of Forty-Six Million (46 Million), from July 2018 to May 2019. The case is currently being investigated by security agencies.” It also said that the council chairman should have raised alarm over its astronomic wage bill even without the addition of a new member of staff. Ayo Owolabi, father of the slain Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi, has called for the probe of Garki Hospital over alleged poor handling of the emergency, Igbere TV reports. Owolabi, 23, was killed during the protest by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) last Monday in Abuja. He said he remained committed to his earlier stance that there was no anointed aspirant in the forthcoming governorship election. “Now that the collection of gubernatorial forms have ended, the leadership of the party in the state wishes to say that there is no anointed aspirant against the practice in those states where outgoing governors endorse one single aspirant. “I decided to open the state for people in my government, my team and other members of the party who have interest to indicate their interest I promise the state that there would be no imposition so would it be. “The aspirants who have bought firms have the right to express their ambition but the state leadership of the party should watch keenly. I am following the comments and making observations and in appropriate cases making consultations. “Now that the end of purchase of forms have come, I will intensify consultations both with aspirants, party leaders and other stakeholders. “And at the end of the day, I intend to work with the party at the national and state levels to ensure that there is a free and fair election. Those using my name should be disregarded, it is not true, I have not endorsed anybody yet,” the statement said.
